INTRODUCING CHARLEY HARPER ~ A Children's Workshop
Charley Harper (1922-2007) was a Cincinnati-based American Modernist artist. He studied and later taught art at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He is best known for his highly stylized yet simple wildlife paintings, drawings, and illustrations for many books and magazines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charley_Harper
WORKSHOP~ Using paper, magazines, old books, scissors, glue, pencil and pens, we will create our own Modernist nature vignettes inspired by Charley Harper.
STEP by STEP~
Stuff we'll be using:
1. Draw a horizontal wavy line on a sheet of paper. We'll start with white.
2.Cut along the line and glue this piece to a colored sheet of paper.
3. Create simple trees by cutting up old magazines or books to glue for tree parts to your color sheet. Using colorful pieces of paper, cut various bird shapes to add to your vignette.
4. Position and glue the shapes to create your birds. I also cut shapes for a little nest, twigs, sticks and brush. You can add whatever you wish. I also used colored pens to detail to my birds and colorful berries here.
You can create your vignette using any colors or shapes you choose! Here's another example:
