* This Frisk was so different than the ones he was used to; Latte was shy and reserved, but had a certain sass to them that was somewhat endearing. This one? This one looked like they honestly needed a hug, a blanket, and a lake full of hot chocolate.
On a scale of 1 to Cute, this kid was bordering on being completely illegal.
Mocha was about to ask them again what they needed when he saw them bring out their hands, and a part of him instantly went on high alert at the movement. Instead, his expression turned to one of confusion as they began to sign, and it took him a second to realise what was going on before things clicked.
Alright then. Uh. This was a problem. The stab child’s brow furrowed as he tried to think of how to deal with this, his hands searching his pockets for something, anything…
Mocha pulled a small pencil and a handmade notebook out from the pockets of his shorts, and after looking for a blank page – there were a few at the end that weren’t covered in doodles, thankfully – he offered both to the mute child with a smile that conveyed both an apology and embarrassment.
「💔」”Yeah, uh, I can’t read hand words like that… can you write? You can use that page.”
Frisk’s face seemed to fall slightly as they realized. The tenseness replacing confusion on their face. The other child didn’t understand them. Not that Frisk supposed they ought to be too surprised. Hands moved, rubbing along their arm nervously. They could always pull out their phone, type the messages there --
Before they could even attempt to do anything different, the other child had handed them a ... book? Frisk blinked, almost blankly before looking up at Mocha, then back down to the book. Nodding that yes, they can write and hesitantly took the notepad from him. They scribbled down a few words.
It looked like this book was well used. So Frisk needed to be careful with how much they used. Not wanting to take up all of the final space. After all, what if the book would want to be used by the other one? Biting a lip, Frisk finished writing, handing it back over to Mocha for reading.
Frisk’s words are a little wobbly and loopy. But what can one expect from an eight year old?

They end the question with a small picture of a smiley face to try and seem a ... little more friendly. Nervous hands bunching up in their sweater. Just glad it seemed that their feeling on this person being dangerous was turning out somewhat wrong. He seemed kind of nice.
To offer them that book ... he could have just dismissed them, after all! It wasn’t as-if that hadn’t happened before . . .
