thinking about janitor developing a crush on gabe (and subsequently mark) back in the day and just kinda accepting it would never come to fruition, thinking "i’ll be happy with however they want me as long as they’re happy and if that means it won’t be a romantic relationship then so be it"
thinking about him being their confidante during the fall out, choosing to stay with gabe because if nobody does then he’s going to fall apart and he loves him too much to just leave
and he’s accepted at this point that he won’t get a happy ending with them, figured they won’t like him that way and yknow, theyre probably not poly and there’s three of them and well the whole mark leaves happens so its all fucked
then mark comes back and the finale happens and
janitor is suddenly where he was before, watching the two dance around each other unable to make a move
figures that he should do something this time, and he does, he coaches gabe to actually confront and express his feelings, because gods gabe is a pain in the ass sometimes but he loves him all the same
helps him shave the stubble on his face as he does, gives him that pep talk as he ignores his own feelings for him and for mark
when mark and gabe finally get together, or find some semblance of being together in a relationship, janitor steps back
his part is done, he’s gotten them together and they’re happy, he’s made peace with the hole in his heart as he lets them have their happy ending
which is when mark and gabe realize something is missing when janitor isn’t around
they begin to notice an empty space between them
