okay since i posted about this yesterday.

apparently my cat is an older lady that i remembered (oop, nearly 18. love u @ my princess) and in the good news: nothing is physically wrong with her eyes which is !! great !! but also super unhelpful, you know? like cool cool cool, but she nearly fell off the exam table and she almost let you poke her in the eye so. like. something is wrong here, but okay? they think some of her lack of movement is because of arthritis but they couldn’t pin much down while i was there.

but they’re doing her blood work and will get back to me tomorrow, fingers crossed she remains, as they say, “perfectly healthy for her age.”

so my old lady cat (she’s in the ballpark of sixteen) who i’ve had for nearly 14 years has been having trouble with her vision lately and since her life partner passed away in february i’ve been Overly Concerned about her health. and, like, i originally scheduled her vet appt for october 31st (black cat halloween trip out of the house seemed appropriate) she ran into a wall or two on friday and i pushed up the appointment to tomorrow and just?

i’m so worried since she has been with me for thirteen years.

just, god, it’s stupid to be this panicked but she’s my little (non-human) support system in my doctoral studies. she sits with me while i do my research, while i grade, listens to my mock presentations of everything and just? i’m not ready for any answer that isn’t “she’s fine besides losing her sight” and i’m not sure i ever will be.

grad school pro-tip: don't deal with first years because they're SUPER EXCITED AND FULL OF HOPE while you're at a point in your research where you've been bashing your head against a wall for four months and want to throw all your comps and articles and notes out of windows your office doesn't have.

okay i never post on here anymore and please ignore this, i just need to rant for a minute.

so, my brother came out as gay the other day to my mom because he wanted to go to his boyfriend’s (? male mutual crush? i’m not clear on the specifics because if he doesn’t want to tell me the specifics that is fine because he should tell me these things on his terms) senior prom and she had to sign a parental consent waiver.

and, apparently, she did not react well. which i find believable because i really have no reason to think that he’d lie to me about something that idiotic and he is really, really upset about it. they’ve always been super close and the only thing this changes is nothing in my opinion, but she has other opinions i don’t feel like writing out because i completely disagree and think they’re gross and he was crying when he was telling me so i don’t want to think about it.

and just, god. they’re really close and i’ve always thought that was fantastic regardless of the issues my mom and i have with one another. so he’s really upset about it and just? i’m so fucking disappointed in her because she is extremely progressive in a lot of her views and i’m really hoping that she’ll come around, just that it’s a shock to her system or whatever. even if she doesn’t, i’m supporting him (probably driving him an hour both ways to take him to that prom if he isn’t comfortable with our mom doing it and i’m not comfortable with him driving an hour back after) and so is our dad who is having a discussion with our mom right now but

god

i’m just really fucking angry with her right now. he’s heartbroken and he shouldn’t have to be. god fucking damn it.
