what’s your spiciest take– BUT– it has to be about something that literally only impacts those living within your own home
Outdoor, free-roaming cat advocates: It's the right thing to do! They enjoy it! I get them vaccinated and treat them for their many injuries (sometimes even at the vet clinic! Spoiled!) And only a couple got eaten by coyotes, bitten by snakes or otherwise maimed by predators. In fact I'm pretty sure only half of them die young from preventable deaths, so i think letting cats roam outside unsupervised is the right thing for me, personally, do to. And I will argue that it is okay for other people to do too.
Indoor cat advocates: This... this isn't okay. There is an alternative...
Outdoor cat advocates: Also I hate birds.
imagine thinking every outdoor cat person is "terrible" because they let their cat outside. cats usually never go farther than 850 meters from their home and have great directional skills. they get plenty of exercise and stimulation, and they come back when they're ready to. yes, they get injured sometimes, but scratches from other cats rarely get infected and heal in less than a day. there's no reason to refuse your cat to be outside unless you live in an apartment or a neighborhood with very little nature. they WANT to go outside. they WILL come back unless you very seriously abuse or neglect them. as long as they're spayed/neutered, vaccinated, get regular vet check-ups,and have a flea collar/checked regularly, it's absolutely fine.
a lot of cat owners don't have the money, space, or time to give their cat the stimulation and exercise a cat needs to be happy and healthy (which is easily met by letting them outside). i'm not saying it's impossible to do and that people should just throw their cats outside if they're not ready to accomodate for that. HOWEVER, what i AM saying is that inferring that outdoor cat people are inherently bad and that they HAVE to keep their cat indoors and buy hundreds of dollars worth of cat trees, hides, running wheels, and toys is inherently being harmful to people who don't have that kind of money to spend on a cat weening off being let outside to get their energy out and now have very little alternatives that don't cost more than they can afford. maybe think about what people would be negatively affected by some rule you make up before you decide it's moral law or whatever.
