Freeze Snake!

She stared down at the young boy in amazement. Any time Sode crossed paths with him, he was always on a chain connected to Saru. The two were one…but just Hebi on his own was…odd. Furthermore neither Saru nor Renji were anywhere in sight and she could not sense them anywhere. 

“Saru decided to let me have the day to do what I want.”

One eyebrow lifted as the boy gave her an explanation that she did not at all believe. Not entirely at least. “Did she now?”

She could just imagine the look on Saru’s face when she realized where he was now. She highly doubted sneaking out to the world of the living was what they had in mind. 

Despite Hebi’s obvious mischievous behavior, Sode no Shirayuki could not help but smile. He was so full of energy and just as curious about the worlds around him as she was. She understood his desire to be here even if it was by sneaking.

“So with this new freedom you decided to slip out of the Seireitei and come all the way out here….”

She trailed off in her thoughts and briefly glanced behind her. She hoped Rukia wouldn’t worry about where it was she went off to and come looking for her. If she did and saw Hebi, she might decide to return to the Soul Society. Her lady had a great sense of duty which was most commendable. Sode no Shirayuki did not want to ruin Rukia’s reason for being here nor did she want to spoil things for the little snake. 

It was one of those moments where Sode felt torn. She had a loyalty to her lady to report back and follow her directions but she also felt loyalty for her kin. To turn him in would feel like a betrayal. 

“Oh what to do? You really shouldn’t be out here by yourself Hebi.” What if a hollow appeared? He wasn’t going to be able to fight it alone. He could get seriously injured if he wasn’t careful. “I don’t suppose you know the way to get back?” 

Hebi stood in front of Sode, waiting and watching; realizing full well that she wouldn’t believe that he was simply let off his chain to do as he wishes. What else can he say? It’s not like he can flat out tell her that he ditched Saru and Renji in the Seireitei all in the spirit of exploration and adventure. She may be kin, but she has other loyalties. 

“Did she now?”

“Well, you see.. we were all on patrol, and there wasn’t anything going on. I was only a nuisance to them, apparently. So, just like always, Saru got upset with me and let me off the chain; rumbling about annoying someone else; I don’t remember what it was exactly.” Hebi smiled from ear to ear in hopes of selling his story. 

“So with this new freedom you decided to slip out of the Seireitei and come all the way out here….”

Hebi shifted his weight back on to his tail, crossing his legs in mid air as he often did. “Well, I wouldn’t say I decided to come here as I more so stumbled here, haha.” Hebi slithered from left to right, fidgeting with his hands while he talked. “You  see, I was running along a roof top, when I saw a small patrol heading towards the gate to Karakura Town. i couldn’t just let them come here by themselves now could I? What kind of zanpakuto would I be if I let them come here all alone?” He stopped his fidgeting and looked at Sode once more, hoping that she didn’t see through his false story.

While Hebi was looking at his elegant kin, he took note of her glances in a different location as well as the concerned look she was giving him. He couldn’t help but wonder what, or who it was she was looking for. Maybe her distraction is exactly what I need to give her the slip as well. 

“Oh what to do? You really shouldn’t be out here by yourself Hebi.”

“I don’t suppose you know the way to get back?”

Hebi let out a gaping smile as he replied, “No need to be concerned about me, I am a Zanpakuto after all. I am more than capable of looking after myself.” He reached out his hand and gave her a thumbs up; the sort of a thing a child would do when they are clearly up to no good. “Yeah, yeah, of course I do. You don’t need to linger around here; I can find my way back, no problem.” Although, it wont be anytime soon. There is still so much to see and do. Not to mention, I am going to be in so much trouble when Renji and Saru get a hold of me. I don’t need to meet up with them anytime soon. Only an idiot would leap towards impending doom. He chuckled to himself and looked away from Sode; looking off into the distance and wondering what lay out there in the city for him to do.

Freeze Snake!

When Sode no Shirayuki was offered a chance to go to the world of the living with her lady Rukia, she accepted it immediately. The excitement she was feeling within was barely contained, but she did her best to remain cool. The last time she had gone had been for but a brief moment and it was under completely different circumstances. 

Now she was going alongside lady Rukia for no other reason but to check in with Ichigo Kurosaki. Those two tended to correspond with each other on a regular basis. That aspect was not at all appealing to the ice zanpakuto, but seeing the buildings and the other odd things of the world was of great interest to her. It just never ceased to amaze her to see so many new things and experience them for herself. 

As she was walking alongside her master, her eyes flickered from one side to the other, taking in everything around her. If she were to describe it, she would say it was so busy. Not at all like the Soul Society. 

Then something odd caught her eye. She stopped walking; staring off to her side and down an alley. Looking back over to Rukia, she saw that her master was busy tapping something in on her phone. 

I will only be a minute. She thought, drifting away from her master and down the alley. She figured once she saw that there was nothing on the other side, she would return to Rukia and they would continue on their way. No such luck. 

Sode no Shirayuki got to the end of the alley which opened to another street and then she looked to her left. Her eyes widened in surprise. 

“Hebi?” She looked around expecting to see lieutenant Abarai and Saru, the other half of Zabimaru, but they were no where in sight. “Just what are you doing here?”

Boring! This is so boring! Ever since this morning, Hebi, Saru and Renji have been out on patrol; and as expected, there is no suspicious activity; a complete waste of time. Letting out a sigh, Hebi protested. “How long must we continue this pointless search for nothing! You really don’t need me here for this; the two of you can handle this just fine without my help.” Hebi folded his hands over his head and continued slithering on his tail, legs crossed in mid-air and eyes closed; pouting. 

It wasn’t too much longer until Hebi spotted the gate to Karakura Town, along with a small patrol of soul reapers. If he could manage to escape Saru and Renji without them noticing, he would be able to sneak out and go exploring. Knowing this, Hebi smiled and looked for the opening he would need to tear off his chain and sneak away. Slowing his pace down, and putting his hand on his collar, Hebi was prepared for his getaway; all he needed now was a small distraction... Picking up a rock with his tail, Hebi launched it at a nearby roof in hopes that Saru and Renji’s attention would be drawn to the roof long enough for him to flee. 

Pop! 

Saru and Renji both looked in the direction of the nearby roof, and in so doing, they gave Hebi the chance he needed to disappear. Seeing this, Hebi smiled, ripped off his chain and jumped onto the roof opposite to the one he used as a diversion. “Suckers.” He snickered and ran to the now open Karukura Town gate.

With the last Soul Reaper finally making his way through the gate, Hebi leaped forward and vanished from the Seireitei.

“Whoa!!! This is more like it!” Hebi arrived in Karakura Town and took off towards what appeared to be the center of the city in hopes of finding something interesting, or fun to do. 

Running through the streets and weaving through ally ways, Hebi was taken back by all of the new and interesting sights and smells.

“Hebi?”

Hebi slowed to a halt and looked in the direction to which he heard his name called; guilt and fear grimacing his face. Did someone really just say my name, or am I hearing things? 

It didn’t take long for Hebi to see that there was an elegant women with lavender colored hair standing nearby. “Sode?” 

“Just what are you doing here?” 

Hebi cocked his head back, put his arm on the back of his head and nervously laughed, he knew he was caught. “Oh...well, you know; Saru decided to let me have the day to do what I want. You know her, it’s hard for her to keep up with me; you know, with that wide load of hers and all.”

"Come out, come out wherever you are! Let's have some fun!"

Too Much Monkey Business!

"Saru!!! Wake the hell up! You have slept long enough!" Hebi was growing more and more irritable as the day went on, and he was confined to what might as well be a coma patient. Here it is, 11 in the morning, and she was still snoring away. "This is ridiculous!" Hebi's eye caught a pillow hanging off of the side of the bed and reached for it; hoisting it up with both hands and getting ready to launch his feather filled tool at his partner, he stopped midway through his toss as he heard his collar jingle. Wait a minute... she's asleep, which means...FREEDOM!! Smiling Hebi reached for his collar and detached the chain around his neck, headed for the window and then leaped out.

Hebi was all over the place, running and jumping all over town in complete and utter bliss! It is rare for him to be off of the chain, and he wasn't about to waste this small chance for a bit of freedom. After about an hour of aimless wandering, and gawking at the new cites of the city, Hebi found himself standing before a giant arch with the word 'Zoo' written in huge letters over the entry way. It was Bunkyo's very own Zoo. Hebi stood completely dumbfounded. "Whoaaa... Now this is what I am talking about!" Running towards the entrance, completely unaware of any sort of admittance fee, a security guard stopped him.

"No ticket, no entrance young man."

"What?! Come on, I just want to see what's in there!"

"I am sorry, but no ticket, no entry. Now run along."

Being turned away had no effect on Hebi, as he was determined to get in. All he had to do was jump the giant walls, and presto, he would be in. Smiling, Hebi looked to either side of where he stood in order to make sure he was out of sight, and leaped over the wall. "That was too easy. Can't keep me out of here." Brushing his hands off, he looked up, and his jaw dropped. He found himself standing in one of the most wondrous places he has ever been. There were crazy looking beasts everywhere! He leaped forward and started leaping from one exhibit to another. 

"What is that! They look just like Saru! The fur, the tail, and the huge rears! These monkeys shouldn't be locked up!" Hebi spotted the monkey exhibit and ran over to the sealed gate. I really should let them out, Saru would be so pleased to see these guys! Hebi's mind wandered with a vision of Saru patting him on the head and smiling with the sight of her fellow kin... That settles it, I am letting them out! 

"Now roar, Zabimaru!" Whipping out his zanpakuto, Hebi slashed the lock and opened the gate, releasing all of the monkey's into the zoo and the unsuspecting crowd of families and workers. A smile from ear to ear grazed his face, "Saru will be so pleased!"

Ulquiorra reached out his hand and side swiped the blade that was lunging towards him; his head tilted to the side, clearly not amused. His other hand raised and his index finger pointed with a green glowing Cero forming at his fingertip. “You are going to have to do a lot better than that.” He unleashed his Cero from his fingertip and unleashed his spiritual pressure from its concealment, giving his opponent but a taste of who she was up against.

With a flick of her wrist, her sword collected itself back together, no longer outstretched but this was in no way meaning she was over. She was fast, just like a baboon. Seeing his cero didn’t even phase her as she dodged and raced around it. “Ha! I’m just getting warmed up.”

Hebi ran from behind the strange man who threatened his partner. Although she annoyed the hell out of him sometimes, she and Renji were the closest people in Hebi's life, and nobody was going to threaten that. Lunging forward from behind the stranger, Hebi yelled, "Roar! Zabimaru!" and let the saw-like blade unfold towards the man's head.

Making A Home

  "WOULD YOU SHUT UP!?" His never-ending chatter and fidgeting was getting on her last nerves. She knew everything in this world was new and refreshing and yes she was looking forward to it all, but when Snake is pointing out every little thing it’s annoying! Then to top it off he was going and mentioning her butt again. It was unnecessary and down right infuriating! All it ended up doing was making her hand tighten even more around the leash too. "Keep it up and you’ll be wishing for air." She threatened.

"And you know that isn’t true. You ruin it for yourself." He never behaved and this is where it got him. Her and Renji were just forced to monitor him all the time, but even Renji got lucky that bastard. He wasn’t going to have to see the pair of them really anymore now that they were here by themselves. It just added to the stress she was feeling when all she wanted to do was lay down and sleep. No such luck.  

She scanned the area around her and all the houses with ‘for sale’ signs on them. She didn’t exactly want to end up with a dump of a home so of course she was taking in her time and making a decision. 

"That one! Over there! We should stay there Monkey!"

"That one?" She followed the train of path from where he was pointing over to the corresponding house. It was decent enough. There were a few people walking out of the house and getting into their moving carts. If others were looking at it, it must be reasonably good. "Alright let’s go."

For once she loosened her grip on the leash, allowing him to pull this time around. He was wanting to get this over with just as much as herself.  She walked at a faster pace because of it too so she wasn’t complaining.

In no time she was walking in through the open house and she wasted no time. ”Hey I’ll take this place!” She shouted, a grin spreading over her face as she stared at the one person in the room. They must have been the person selling the place. “Fork over the keys or whatever it is that makes it mine.” Needless to say, she did not understand business and what would actually be required of her. 

"Here Hebi. You can go get a good look around this place in the mean time and let me know what you think." She leaned down and unhooked the link to his collar, letting him free briefly.

"Don't be such an old maid! We are rarely free to do as we please, let's not waste this!" Hebi snickered. He decidedly ignored her empty threat. He was used to that sort of thing from both her and Renji. They always complained about the trouble he caused them; always telling him to calm down and such. As it was true that he did tend to act out a bit, he really couldn't help it. That was neither here, nor there though. Right now, all he could see was all of the new sights that Bunkyo had to offer, starting with a nice new dwelling space. 

"Yes, that one! It should do just fine!" He darted in through the doorway as his chain was loosened around his neck, allowing him a bit more freedom to roam ahead. He darted past the living room, and right into the kitchen. "Whoaaa! Look at this monkey!" Hebi jumped on the marble counter top and began playing with the faucet; pulling the nozzle attached to the hose. "What's this!? What does this do!" He pulled the nozzle towards his face and peered at the nozzle; his hand turning the nozzle attached to the sink.... "Whaaaa....! Pluh, pluh, pluh. Damni!" He slammed the nozzle back down in the sink and jumped down, shaking his cloths out all over the tile floor.

Hebi paid no mind to the shocked, and even horrified look the bi-standard gave him. He was already darting into another room as his partner had asked for the keys to the house.

Running up the stairs adjacent to the kitchen, Hebi shouted down. "Come up here monkey! Come take a look at some of these rooms!" he zigzagged through the rooms with great haste, never spending more than a few seconds in each; all the while trying to figure out which one he liked best. Should I take the one with the bathroom in it, or the one with walk in closet? Which one, which one.... He finally stopped in a room whose window faced the backyard; perfect for him in case he wanted to get out of the house quickly.

Wake Up!

  "I wouldn’t have had to if you had let me be!" She retorted, glaring daggers at the boy that was half her size. "Honestly, you can be a real pain. Why can’t you take a nap like the rest of the kids your age?"

[snakechains]

"Well I wouldn't have had to wake you if you hadn't had me chained up!" Hebi snapped back, while moving towards the window to stare out into the sun. "How can I take a nap when there is so much to do and see anyways...."

Wake Up!

"Ow!" Saru pulled her hand away as if she had just touched fire. Her other hand rubbing the now sore spot with two small indentations marked on it. "That hurt Snake!" 

[snakechains]

"Oh, I'm sorry, I must not have realized how much it would hurt in between getting the life strangled out of me by a hairy old lady!" Hebi shouted back and stuck out his tongue. "Now, let's get out of here!!"

Wake Up!

  "Or I can kill you now!" She shot up from her resting spot and immediately lunged towards him. "You little brat. Learn some respect why don’t you!" She started pulling on his cheek, nearly strangling him from behind.  

[snakechains]

"Ahhh! Get off of me you old baboon!" Hebi fought against the tight grip Saru had on him with all of the energy he had. His arms flailing everywhere looking for an opening to escape. Seeing her arm under his chin, he tucked it in and bit down hard.

Wake Up!

  "Not this again." She grumbled, holding her hands over her ears as she tried to turn on her side and block out that annoying voice. "Knock it off, I’m trying to sleep!" 

[snakechains]

"You can sleep when you're dead! Now get up, get up, get up!" Hebi began pulling on the chain attached to his neck in an attempt of dragging Saru out of bed. "Come on! Move it!"

Wake Up!

"Monkey! Wake the hell up!! Get that big furry butt of yours moving! There are things to see!" Hebi pounced on Saru trying to get her to budge. Being chained up to her all the time was quite annoying; especially when he wanted to go out exploring!

Kin Reunion

  Sode no Shirayuki didn’t even know what to do. For once in her life she was left speechless and there were multiple reasons for it. For one, she didn’t even know Zabimaru was here! Well…the snake half that is. Monkey was not in the room but if Snake was here, then she would somewhere in the vicinity. The second thing Sode noticed quickly was the fact that all her papers were scattered on the floor. This was a problem because she had those placed in separate piles on her desk for a reason. One pile was homework turned in and the second pile was for her to give to the school board. Now she would have to take time to separate the two.

Disapprovingly she looked onto the board. All her writing was replaced with silly drawings…not completely bad. She could tell they were of Monkey; her butt being drawn bigger than possible and her hair frizzier than usual. It was probably for the best that Monkey wasn’t here or there might have actually been some broken desks from their fighting.

As if that wasn’t the only problem, now her class was crowding around her to see what had happened. Some were pulling out their phones to take pictures and others were giggling and watching. None of it was funny to her. “Class…this is…Hebi.” On the spot, she needed to explain this, but she would be as truthful as possible. “He is kin.”

 She wasted no time. She let her class go early, rushing them to grab their things and leave while she stooped down to gather all the papers. Once it was just her and Snake, she spoke up. “I’m not used to seeing you off your chain.” In truth, she had never seen him off his chain. He was always attached to Monkey and now she could see why. He really was a troublemaker. 

Once she stacked the papers neatly in their separate piles, she locked them in the drawers of her desk. She would not be making the same mistake twice. “So tell me. Just what are you up to?” There was a smirk on her face as she sat back on the top of her desk to stare at his chalk drawings. “Lovely. I don’t think Monkey would find the resemblance accurate.” 

Any stern look she once had was gone as it was replaced with joy and a weird sense of mischievousness. It had been so long since she had seen another spirit like herself and not only was it a spirit, but it was one of her best friends. Just like Rukia and Renji, their friendship had transferred over to them. 

"It is good to see you again Snake. I wish I had known you were here sooner. Must be the gigai. It blocks all the senses."

Hebi stood at the board, motionless. He was caught in the act and he had absolutely no idea as to what to do.... On top of being caught, it was being documented by all of the students with their pictures! I sure hope Monkey doesn't see this, or hear about it... I will never hear the end of it... As he thought about it, his face contorted and grew pale, reflecting his inner terrors. 

He stood in place, completely dumbfounded for a few seconds; there was nowhere to run, or hide.... So, he did the only thing that made sense.....

He placed the chalk back on the ledge of the board, and walked over to a desk, where he sat silently, pretending that nothing ever happened. He ignored the students hurried movements as they gathered their belongings and left. The entire time he couldn't help but think of excuses for his behavior to his friend. I had no idea this was your classroom Sode. No, that wouldn't do. I thought I could leave the drawing up as a joke.... maybe, just maybe that would work... He was so caught up with his own thoughts that he didn't even here Sode ask about his chain and why it had been removed.

Now that they were gone, Hebi opened his mouth, ready to lay down his prepared excuses, but he stopped as soon as Sode spoke.

 “Lovely. I don’t think Monkey would find the resemblance accurate.”

Seeing the stern look dissipate and replaced with joy, Hebi smiled and leaped out of his chair, and started leaping across the desks. "Sode!!!"

"I had no idea this was your classroom, or that you were here for that matter! Stupid gigai...... I never thought that being forced by Monkey to go to school would be a good thing!"

Glancing back at the chalkboard, Hebi chuckled. "What do you mean, that is a perfect drawing of Saru." He leaped up on the desk and pointed out the dis-proportioned butt he drew; "see, perfectly captured."

  "HA! Did that school of yours actually teach you how to spell? I should give them more credit."

[snakechains]

"You mean that boring place? I may have picked up a few things. You should give it a try. You might learn a thing or two yourself..."

[baboonchains]

  "If it weren’t for you? Listen brat that was a team effort, not just you!"

[snakechains]

"There may not be an 'I' in team, but there is a 'ME'"

"Suddenly it got kind of lively again…"

"You don’t say."

"Wha... you can see us?"

  "Hey, we weren’t ganging up on you. We were trying to teach you responsibility."

"Responsibility? I am plenty responsible! I helped destroy all of those sword beasts too! If it wasn't for me, then they would still be causing trouble.
