sketch related to this headcanon post. a bunch of argonians spending time with week-old hatchlings

actually having children is usually the decision of the whole clan, and usually happens as one event. the eggs of each breeding event generally hatch within a day of each other, and everything else is put on hold for a solid week as the entire community comes to the hatching pools to meet the new children and absolutely lavish them with affection

in many argonian cultures, care and raising of children falls on everyone around them, not just the biological parents. everyone is expected to pitch in, speak to the kids, protect them from danger, keep them warm and well fed, play with them, and otherwise thoroughly love them. most black marsh argonians have approximately 20 to 30 doting parents.

its critically important that the kids are exposed to language during this period, but young argonians instinctively respond to extremely low pitched rumbles the adults can make. when all else fails, a frazzled babysitter can get into the water and bellow to be instantly swarmed by a chirping mob of hatchlings.
