I'm finally able to share what I've been working on over the summer for @tolkienrsb 2025!
I started out with the idea of humans and dwarves influencing each other's crafts and patterns and decided that blackwork patterns have a suitably dwarven look while the floral motiv might be more human.
My writer -- who is not on tumblr, bit you can find her on BlueSky: jobot935.bsky.social -- wrote a wonderful Kili & Tilda friendship fic for my art that you'll be able to read from 6th September on AO3. Here's a teaser cover she made for it:
Dusting off this old account briefly just to say: it was a joy to write the story to go with this beautiful piece of embroidery. Just look at the details in each petal!!
I knew I wanted to claim it the second I saw it as just a rough sketch (and I did). Stay tuned for the story because it ended up becoming a small novel!

I rewatched Lord of the Rings the other day and you know what I really appreciate?
The men are so tender.
They cry, and kiss each other’s foreheads, and hug, and call each other ‘my friend’ and ‘my dear’; they’re respectful to women and faithful to their partners; they have banter without being creepy and sleazy, and literally none of that stops them from being considered “manly”.
More Lord of the Rings men please.

You know, before tumblr, I was under the impression that I was alone with my bad experiences of guys or maybe I was just unfortunate with who I met but apparently not. I feel like this could have been wrote by pretty much any straight guy I have my life…
The sad fact is I don’t think there’s a woman anywhere in the known world who HASN’T had a bad experience with guys :(
The worst part of this is like…. they talk about it like getting told to take your headphones off by a strange dude is going to be the highlight of your day. It literally never occurs to these writers that women’s days might not be brightened by a forced conversation with a male stranger.
I can’t think of any time that my day has been made better by ANY interaction with a male who I didn’t already know and had judged as being safe to be friends with

Wow. Has it really been a week since TFNation?!! Crikey. Oi... What can I say? It was totally worth the 18 hours of travel time from Singapore to get there. It was my first ever overseas con AND my first Transformers Only con - and I had a blast! Got to meet friends I'd been talking to on Twitter for years now. Got to meet people I admired for their creative work. Got to give out all the murder flowers I'd made (I am so sorry if you missed out on one). Got to meet new friends :D Got to cosplay (Lady Megatron, Rewind, Lady Cyclonus), and actually placed Second in the Humanised Category in the competition (that was exciting and surreal and took a good while to sink in cos there were so many excellent cosplayers!) This year being my first, I was mostly O__O a lot of the time. Hopefully next year I'll be a little less shy and go and talk to more people. If anyone has pics of my cosplays feel free to tag me. Likewise if you see your pics here let me know who you are so I can tag you! :)
I'll do a proper recap shortly, but here's Lady Cyclonus from the TFNation Saturday Night Cosplay Competition. It's still a little surreal to me that I actually placed Second. There were so many good cosplays that night. Now I'm agonizing over what to do for next year cos it's going to be hard to top Lady Cyc, which is a personal best.
