I got my first @snakkubox! And it’s full of delights (and a really cute furoshiki)!
I’ve already tried a few things because I was kind of in a hurry when I got it (had to go to the farmer’s market so I sort of just tore into it and grabbed a couple things to munch on in the car), namely the whole grain rice senbei and the honey mini pie (pictured together because there WERE two of each, not anymore). And I ate the broken aonori senbei while waiting for the photos to download from dropbox. (Spoiler alert: the senbei tasted fine despite being broken.)
Of the things I’ve tasted: the aonori (blue nori) has a bit of a crab flavor to it up front, and then tastes like nori on the back end. Pretty good if either of those flavors is your jam. The whole grain rice senbei isn’t particularly fancy, just rice grains glazed with soy sauce, but sometimes simplicity is best–I like these a lot and I’m sad there were only two in the box so I can’t share. (Maybe they’ll make them available in the store later?) The honey mini pie was amazing, really delicate and flavorful (it’s not actually a pie, it’s more like a puff pastry cookie), but I could tell it’s probably really fattening so I don’t mind giving the other one to D along with the kintsuba squares. (I feel so bad that I don’t like azuki, I can never enjoy anpan or taiyaki or any of those popular things!)
The only thing I’m really disappointed in is the bag of wasabi ranch snow peas. They took up half the box and ‘wasabi ranch’ doesn’t appeal to me at ALL. I guess I’ll still try them, but I’m not getting my hopes up. At least everything else looks good?
I’m really looking forward to trying one of those hato sabure cookies~
UPDATE: I had a hato sabure and it’s SO good, I looove the texture. Might split the other one with dad or D. Also I discovered the Morinaga matcha cookies have azuki in them so I gave them to D, but she ate one and said the azuki was really mild so I’ll try one of them.
Also I wanted to give a shout-out to @girlswithscissors for bringing Snakku to my attention in the first place! Thank you Heather <3 I’ve been wanting a subscription box that wasn’t just 80% candy/snacks you can get at the local asian market!

Brazilian orange pocky. I was very pleasantly surprised about how much these actually taste like orange, I would definitely suggest getting these while you still can since they are only for a limited time and I will definitely get some more 8/10

Snakku May 2016 Spoilers
Ironic that I posted my February review in time for May’s box… heh. Anywho, the May Snakku features snacks from Sendai, which you may remember prominently from 2011 as the site of a devastating earthquake and tsunami. Back in the Sengoku period however, it was known for the samurai Date Masamune who founded the city. The sengoku period is actually my favorite in terms of historical context (and…
