WHATâS IN A LOYALTY PROGRAMME AND ARE THEY ALL CREATED EQUAL?
Is your wallet getting bigger and heavier, but not from your bank balance? Are you being weighed down from all the cards in your wallet? According to a recent survey, the average South African participates in 13 loyalty programmes.Â
These days it seems like every business offers some sort of âloyalty programmeâ. Between all the points, cards and redemptions, its so difficult to understand what you are actually getting and trying to figure out which ones offer you the most benefit is like comparing apples with umbrellas.
Luckily to get the maximum benefit for you (and help you save some money in the process) many of these schemes can be used together  to get the most bang for your buck. Here is a brief rundown of the most popular programmes to help you get the best deal.
Loyalty schemes can largely be divided into 2 categories:  Retailer specific reward programmes and Customer âClubsâ.  Â
        RETAILER SPECIFIC REWARD PROGRAMMES:
PICK n PAY SMART SHOPPER PROGRAMME
One of the countryâs largest retailer specific loyalty programmes with over 8 million card holders. Shoppers accumulate points based on the amount spent and can be redeemed as cash, discounts on travel or charitable donations. You need to spend R100 to get R1 back in rewards.
PROâS:Â There are many Pick n Pay and affiliated stores across the country so it wonât be hard to find a convenient location to redeem your rewards.
CONâS: Your cash back redemption doesnât happen automatically. You must visit a kiosk to switch your points to cash, travel or charity redemption. You must then physically hand a paper voucher to the cashier. Letâs hope you donât accidentally forget to hand it over or you may lose your reward.
