while as a snape fan i am partial to his redemption arc, i do think it didn’t quite work as it should have. jkr saw that his time under voldemort was compensated, but he still died a shit person. he died doing the right thing, but he was still the professor that terrorized some of his students in a way they’d dread coming into the dungeons lmao

PLAYING THE UNPOPULAR HERO had never been an issue nor would it become so any time soon. doing the right thing is a more pressing matter than preserving whatever reputation he has left. the headmaster’s protection is a crutch to which snape has become too used. would he be able to keep the appearances once it was gone ? would he be able to be the same albus is to him to those who might need it ? that is a most heavy burden to carry alone.
