Praya rolled her eyes, hoping that Dawn had forgotten that part of their conversation. Oh well …

“Making conversation isn’t the problem. It’s more like . . he is probably already taken.” She stopped herself and raised her hands defensively, “Not to sound like I mope or anything. He’s just too good a guy to not already have someone he’s devoted to.”

;†; “Well,” Dawn countered playfully. “We won’t know if we don’t ask, now won’t we?” She laughed lightly, a light-hearted pealing sound. “If you’re helping me with my so-called love life, I don’t see why I can’t assist you with yours.”

Praya grumbled jokingly at Dawn's point. It would by hypocritical to insist on aiding Dawn and refuse help from her in turn

She started tapping her fingers on the table, betraying her nerves as she imagined how that conversation would go. She couldn't even have more than a friendly conversation with the guy and yet Dawn was talking about her being more . . . open to him. Gahhhh this was easy thinking about it in regards to someone else, but herself?

"I guess so . . ."

Praya slowly donned a smile of her own. “I suppose I can consider myself officially invited now, yes? I would be happy to join you.” The Indian paused as a laugh escaped, “Besides, perhaps I can be your wingman.”

;†; Darkstorm’s expression was tinged with gratitude as well as relief. Praya did seem a bit more welcoming and down to earth than the other students she had encountered. She seemed trustworthy. 

“Yes,” she replied with a small laugh. “That is what the Americans call it, isn’t it?” She grinned. “I truly am grateful, my dear. Perhaps, I can even help you talk to that gentleman you referred to earlier.”

“Oh!” She suddenly perked, as though remembering something, “I just remembered too, you could probably ask him to join you in Halloween festivities. I believe someone is setting up a haunted house, and a couple people on my floor keep jabbering about this masquerade ball they’re helping organize.”

;†; Dawn’s alit with curiosity at that. A Masquerade ball? That certainly sounded lovely. Perhaps, if she wore a mask, she’d gain the courage to speak with Ben. “That could work,” she mused to herself before adding in a louder voice, “Will you be attending any of these events?”

I’m quite certain you don’t want to hear me moan about it.” Her expression lightened, perhaps with a hint of mischief, “Especially not when you have your eye on a possible … relationship in your near future.”

;†; Dawn rolled her cerulean eyes in a good-natured manner. “Way to bring this all back to me.” Her expression softened. “But, darling, believe me when I say that I’m hardly bothered by it. If you ever need to talk… I’m happy to listen.”

“Besides …” The young woman paused as her smile faltered, “I learned some time ago that the last thing you want in this life is to have regrets or leave others with regrets. No harm can come from trying, that’s what I say.”

;†; Dawn’s expression softened. “You speak as if from experience.” She looked downwards, knowing it wasn’t her business to inquire further (she had only just met Praya after all) so instead she added, “But, you’re quite right. There’s… no harm in trying, after all.”

“If you like …” Praya shrugged, trying to find a good way to phrase it, “I could catch him next time he’s at the dorm. Speak to him for you?”

;†; Dawn’s smile turned demure and bashful as she secretly basked in the praise. She didn’t normally hear such compliments, especially from people she barely knew. “I’d wish you the best of luck in that endeavor but…” 

She bit her bottom lip before adding, “Do you think it would help?”

“Well I’m certain it can’t hurt.” Praya offered a reassuring smile. “I mean, you can’t get any less noticed by him than you are now.

“Besides . . .” The young woman paused as her smile faltered, “I learned some time ago that the last thing you want in this life is to have regrets or leave others with regrets. No harm can come from trying, that’s what I say.”

The name was familiar to Praya, if only because her roommate swooned over half the basketball team. “Benjamin Baker? I believe he lives near my dorm.” 

She froze, realizing that her words may be perceived incorrectly. “Er, not that I follow him or anything! I just see him near my building sometimes. And some of the girls on my floor make a point of mentioning when he does.” 

The Indian woman sighed, “Honestly, the way American girls swoon over men simply because they can throw a ball has always eluded me. He could be a jerk for all they know and they wouldn’t care.” She again stopped herself with a light groan. “Forgive me, I know you said he’s ‘quite nice,’ I simply get tired of listening to my female peers swoon over any pair of abs that walks by.”

;†; Darkstorm was quick to reassure her new friend, although her smile had dimmed somewhat. “No, I completely understand. Love should be based on one’s virtues, not on their looks. Though, I’m afraid that isn’t always the case.” 

She sighed and looked downwards, suddenly becoming rather interested in the table. “If it were, then perhaps I’d have a smidgin of a chance with Benjamin.”

The young woman cleared her throat. “And what of you, Dawn?”

;†; A light blush dusted her pale cheeks as she looked downward and began to fiddle with her hands. “A basketball player at the university, actually. Benjamin Baker. He is… quite nice, as well.” 

But, he was one of the quote on quote popular guys and she always saw him surrounding by a group of pining women. What chance did she have of catching his attention?
