Xue placed the book he had been reading down as he felt Yin stir in his arms. He brushed through Yin's silver hair with his fingers, each touch soft as silk. Yin glanced up at Xue, and a smile spread across both faces.

Xue held Yin closer in his arms, close enough to place a gentle kiss to Yin's lips. He moved up until he reached his forehead and rested there. "Good morning, my moon." It was barely a whisper against Yin's skin, but he knew it would be heard all the same.

The frigid depths choked any life from his body, leaving him longing for air. He grasped with desperate hands toward the surface, but he felt himself fall further into the depths. Any tears were swallowed up by the current, and his body slowly seized up from the temperature of the water. He would die, just as his father said he would.

What a miserable fate.

Xue gasped as his eyes snapped open. His heart beat against its rib cage, as if an attempt to escape his body. Through his panic, he could make out the body of another person next to him.

‘Don’t...let this...bother him..’

Barely conscious, Xue made his way out of bed. He needed to get away. He needed to free himself from the frozen touch of the river.

At first Lang thought he was imagining things when he felt a stirring beside him. He was half asleep, after all. But no, he was almost certain after a few moments that his companion had rose from their shared bed.

He didn't think much of it to begin with. Maybe he was just thirsty? Though after a moment he figured that no, that couldn't be it. He had risen with such suddenness that he was certain something was wrong.

"Xue?" he called out into the darkness, reaching out for the other man. "Are you all right? Is something the matter?"

Xue found a corner in the darkness, between the wall of the room and a bedside table. He knew his surroundings were that of the room he and Yin had chosen for the night, but his mind saw things differently. He saw the swirling currents, the sheet of white that covered the surface of the water. He felt cold, and none of the shivers through his body could warm him. He gasped for air, only for his lungs to fill with ice water each time he tried to breathe.

All of a sudden, he heard a voice. The voice of Yin, the one who mattered most to Xue. More than the ice that spread through his veins, he felt a sense of shame and guilt for causing his moon disturbance when he should be resting.

'Answer. Answer. You can't worry him.'

"I-I am fine, Yin." Xue cursed the stutter in his voice. He pressed himself to the wall, his arms wrapping around his torso. The cold that enveloped him brought more trembling throughout his entire body.
