my favorite thing about hacks is how some of the core dynamics at the heart of the show aren’t explicitly romantic but also could definitely be read that way. like especially with avorah and jimmy and kayla. I love that their relationships are so significant and they are so heavily involved in each other’s journeys and growth and there is soooo much love and protectiveness and even a kind of possessiveness in a ‘this is my person!’ sense but it’s so beyond being condensed into the boundaries of romantic and platonic because there doesn’t exist a label enough for their roles in each other’s lives and what they mean to each other and the lengths they would go to show that love when push comes to shove. and I think I love that for them.
I feel like as much as I love shipping characters who clearly understand and love each other deeply and intrinsically there’s a kind of flattening quality to it too I mean, like to quote one of my favorite posts on tumblr ‘so often I see pairings enacting romance tropes to the point of heavily altering or downright replacing their original dynamic as if the people behind it only understand romance as a series of checklists to tick off’ so like really I feel like I adore that space their bonds have in the show. something unique and special that doesn’t limit itself.
which is just so beautiful to me. plus I think even with these as romantic ships it’s so important to me that even if they are the types to like doing traditionally romantic things together it doesn't just suddenly undo whatever else they had going on before they started adding that on top of it. I think that applies especially to hacks because I LOVE what dynamics have been established in the show and that is always the center of why it’s so amazing as opposed to whether the nature of what they have going on is romantic or platonic. the answer is yes and no and maybe it’s some other thing entirely but the point is the love is there.
Part of what I love about the Montecito episode is that we can see that Ava has already processed and accepted so much of the inherent queerness of her and Deborah's relationship in the sense of uncategorizable, messy, and forever in flux since her season one sex dream. She's able to play with the enemies to lovers trope that their actual history can so easily map onto and acknowledge their very stereotypical "stay friends" lesbian "break-up" without it creating any crisis for her or the relationship. She has accepted that they are what they are to each other, whatever that turns out to be.

"It's even more powerful than her giving up the late-night show for Ava. That was about something she wanted in the past. What she's willing to do now, to spend more time with Ava, is to risk her future. To take that leap is, to us, the ultimate declaration of love."

I love the thought of Garcia and Santos getting into a heated argument and them both devolving into Spanish/Tagalog. Like one says smth and the other just being like “what the fuck did you just say to me?” When they recognize a word.

Begging for a McKay v Dr Shamsi confrontation where McKay, who has spent all day seeing children lose their mothers, dresses her the fuck down for making Javadi feel like she's nothing. McKay being the person to finally stand up for Javadi and reaffirm her excellence and effort.
