i think that the way i approach witchcraft would make a lot of people riot
Y’all I’m being so serious when I say this: go to the library for witchcraft reasons.
You can usually find books on witchcraft, yes, but there’s also field guides on local foraging and wildlife, cookbooks, books that teach you how to craft and DIY, books about environmental protection and stewardship, books on how to use herbs medicinally, books about other religions, cultures, and spiritual practices. My favorite local library even has a seed swapping program and fantastic resources to research your own family history!
Go to the library for witchcraft. Please. :) <3
How to incorporate yarn crafts into your cottage magic journey!
If you are a witch that likes to journal or keep a book of shadows, you can use this to help plan out your crafts. You can write down what you want to make, your goals, the colors, and what hooks you are using. This allows you to focus your intentions, your goals, and even color magic into the craft! Crocheting and knitting can also be calming and possibly meditative! It can help you get ready for a different spell as well, if you are not using the yarn for the spell itself!
This can also be a form of knot magic, and you can focus protection or any other outcome as you work and make your stitches/knots in the yarn/string! You are most likely zoning out anyway while working, so thinking about your intentions should be easy to do in the moment. If knot (:3) then you can write your intentions in a journal to help you!
You can also burn incense or a candle while you work to help calm yourself, breathe life into the craft, and help set your intentions.
Did you know that you can make a familiar out of yarn? They obviously behave differently from a living familiar but they are still used for protection and companionship!
Yarn can also be used for jinxing and hexing. You can weave your intentions into the yarn and then burn it at the end of the project. Please make sure you are being careful and practicing proper fire safety!
You can also make offerings with the objects you’ve made. Remember, deities often prefer handmade offerings than store bought offerings!
🌿 Herbology in Magic:
how plants learned to speak
Herbology is one of the oldest forms of magic.
Long before grimoires and glass bottles, people learned by touching leaves, tasting roots, and watching which plants healed and which harmed. Survival came first. Meaning followed.
Over time, those practical lessons became symbolic ones.
🌿 Rosemary came to mean remembrance because it preserved food and memory.
🌿 Lavender came to mean calm because it quieted the body.
🌿 Basil came to mean prosperity because it was tied to kitchens, trade, and nourishment.
Magical meanings did not appear randomly.
They grew from how plants behaved in the world and how humans relied on them.
In magic, an herb does not “contain” a spell.
It carries a history.
When a witch chooses a plant, they are choosing its story:
how it grows
where it thrives
what it smells like
how it has been used
what humans learned from it
This is why different cultures give different meanings to the same herb.
Magic is shaped by land and tradition.
What protects in one place
may heal in another.
What blesses in one culture
may banish in the next.
Working with herbs is not about memorizing lists.
It is about relationship.
Touching the leaves.
Learning when it flowers.
Noticing how it changes in heat or water.
Listening to its folklore.
A plant you know personally
will always be stronger
than a plant you only know from a chart.
This is why kitchen magic and garden witchcraft endure.
They weave spellwork into daily life and living things.
Herbs appear in magic through:
🍵 teas
🔥 smoke
🕯️ oils
🧿 charms
🛁 baths
🍞 food
Each form changes how the plant’s meaning moves.
Smoke sends intention outward.
Tea brings it inward.
Oils seal it.
Food makes it part of you.
The same herb can protect, bless, or cleanse
depending on how it is used.
Herbology is not just about plants.
It is about transformation.
At its heart, magical herbology is a conversation
between humans and the green world.
Plants offer:
form
scent
memory
Witches offer:
intention
attention
meaning
Together, they create a language older than writing.
To study herbs is to study:
patience
seasons
and survival
It reminds us that magic does not come from rare ingredients.
It comes from noticing.
Every leaf carries a lesson.
The spell begins when you learn how to listen. 🌿✨

Witchy Self-Care
*pulls out draft from over a year ago* ENJOY
Hi! this is a list of witchy self-care things you can do. Most of these are pretty basic on account that i wrote this ages ago but they definitely still work. Anyways, I hope these help :)
Do the dishes and dedicate it to your house spirit (if you have one) or a deity (if you're religious)
sweep/mop your floor in the shape of sigils
add rosemary (or rosemary water/essential oils) to the water you mop with to set an intention of cleansing
taking ritual a bath/shower
cleansing your energy. it's so basic but I forget more than i'd like to admit
dedicating time to yourself. it's just as important as dedicating time to your deities/other spirits
light shadow work or going to therapy. bettering your mental health also betters your spiritual.
go outside and ground yourself
take a nap (less witchy, more, I love naps. rest is important)
work out/stretch and dedicate it to an entity
do some gratitude
take 5 minutes to just sit and turn off your devices. you can use this time for anything, just take a second to get off screens and connect with the world around you
meditate. if you can't sit still long enough to meditate, just focus on taking 3 deep breathes
when you wash your face, draw sigils on your face with the cleanser and moisturiser
^do the same as above but with your body wash and when you wash your hair
say some affirmations/manifestations while brushing your teeth
just check in with yourself and see how you're feeling spiritually, psychically and emotionally. sometimes we don't actually know how we're feeling until we sit down and actually ask ourselves.
If anyone has any more to add please comment. I'll add them to the list (with credit of course)
