Different people that worked on the show talking about Zutara
Aaron Ehasz, the head writer of the show, started to give his opinions about the live action on twitter and mentioned Zutara as well
Since the second season of the live action show was released, I keep seeing a lot of people complaining about the fact that Katara is not motherly anymore while Mai actually fears Azula, but when Zutara fans were pointing out the fact that Katara is motherly in the og show and Mai didn't actually fear Azula or cared about anything else, besides maybe Zuko, they got called delusional and were accused of mischaracterizing them in order to make Kataang and Maiko look bad.
Don't get me wrong. I agree with the things that people complain about when it comes to this show. I think Mai should be apathetic and Katara should be motherly. I'm just pointing out how disingenuous they are when Zutara fans mention this specific character traits that the girls possess.
Cosmopolitan wrote an article about Zutara. 20 years pasted and this ship is still being impactful one way or the other
Here's the entire article in case someone wants to read it
Fans continue to rally for the enemies-to-lovers relationship years after the animated series ended. Why can’t the live-action offer somethi
Does anyone know where is this image from? Someone posted it on twitter and it was the first time I saw it
Coco Gauff, the tennis player, has a different account where she makes edits and some of them are with Zutara
Here's the edit that she's referring to. It's so funny to see her responding back to the haters
The type of things Kat*ang fans are able to get away with just because they like "the morally superior" ship. If some Zutara fan posted something like that, they would go around saying that every single one of us hates Katara and we self insert through her because we want to get 🍇ed by Zuko
For the people that know, remember the storyboard where Katara and Aang have their kiss at the invasion and Katara was supposed to smile, but they decided to remove it? I know Giancarlo Volpe is behind this scene and I swear I saw on his tumblr (I think?) a post about it where he said something like "A powerful force told me to erase/remove Katara's smile". I'm not sure if these were the exact words, but that's how I remember it being phrased. Now I went again on his tumblr to search for that post, but I wasn't able to find it. Does someone have a screenshot with it or something? Let me know if you do
it's from his deviantart
Omg, thank you so much 🙏

So now Zutara is colonizer x colonized because Katara apparently parallels Ozai. Katara, the one victimized by the Fire Nation, is apparently a foil for Ozai
"Zuko and Katara will always choose Aang over each other"
They are two divorced parents fighting over custody. Of course Aang is the priority
There was a time when Zutara used to rule tumblr
The fact that Zuko and Katara barely have a few scenes sitting side by side, no interaction or words exchanged between them whatsoever, and the ship still got a lot of content and support despite that. I saw Kataang fans being upset that the movie didn't manage to make people jump ships the way they thought it would. This is so funny
I'm so sick of people in this fandom acting like it's disrespectful towards Aang and Katara to ship Zutara when people have nothing to say when Zuko gets shipped with Sokka or Toph (especially Sokka).
If it's disrespectful towards Kataang to ship Katara and Zuko, then the same could be said about Maiko and Sukka. On top of Mai and Suki being disrespected by not being part of the plot or having any interactions with the gaang whatsoever, they also get disrespected by having their boyfriends being shipped with each other.
"But Zuko and Katara are disgusted by the idea of being together"
And I bet Zuko and Sokka would be as well if someone mistook them as lovers. And I also bet the Zukka shippers would claim that deep down these two have feelings they are trying to deny or that everyone can see the chemistry between them if someone ever thought they were dating.
Also, Katara reacted the same way when Sokka called Aang her boyfriend at the beginning of the show. Does that mean the creators disrespected her by putting her in a romantic relationship with him? Like, this all "we are not dating" is such a common trope and considering the discussions about Zutara in the writing room and the ship baiting they were doing back in the day, it makes sense to see romantic subtext in them. Now that Kataang is canon this is more like a running joke because, out of all the characters, these two got mistaken as lovers the most and it's also a way for the creators to poke fun at the shippers because they can't help themselves.
They can try to make me feel guilty for shipping them as much as they want, but it won't work.
Spoilers for the new movie
I finished watching the movie and these are some of the improvements that they made and my opinions overall:
Katara's opening scene starts with her giving a speech as the council representative of the Republic City for the anniversary of the city and the opening of the Unity Tower. In the script her opening scene has her playing around with some kids. They also mention a few times throughout the movie that her and Aang worked together on the city.
Katara is the first to question Taga's intentions and confront him which results in a short fight between the two. Later on the whole gaang fights him. This scene didn't exist in the script.
Katara doesn't have the all "This isn't you " speech to stop Aang from being corrupted by the staff. What helps Aang is the reminder that the air nomads are still with or a part of him no matter what which I think makes more sense.
The movie doesn't end with Katara being pregnant. Instead it ends with the gaang and the air acolytes going to search for more air nomad relics and on their way they discover surviving air bisos.
The main character's interactions were kinda surface-level and besides Aang and maybe Katara, the rest seemed to be pretty one dimensional. It was like watching some cheap versions of themselves on the screen.
Suki appears for a few seconds almost at the end of the movie and twice in the end credits. Iroh appears once in the end credits as well.
The animation was really beautiful, but the story definitely got carried by the visuals. I still find the plot boring. The movie was really fast-paced and sometimes I had a hard time trying to keep up with what was going on.
The voice acting is fine. You get used to it the more you keep watching.
For the curious Zutara fans out there, Zuko and Katara don't exchange one word with each other the entire movie. There is no fighting scene with just them alone and no scene with Katara giving Zuko orders. We literally got 3 milliseconds of screen time with them.
And everyone is hot. EVERYONE!!
I was wrong. The leaks with the script were not taken down. Also, they didn't leak just a few parts of the script, but the entire movie. I happened to find the link and I read the all thing. If you don't want to get spoiled, ignore this post and remember that this are my personal opinions
First of all, Iroh, Azula, Suki, Mai, Ty Lee, Ursa and Hakoda don't appear or get mentioned in the movie at all. A big portion of the movie is going to have the gaang and the villain in it which made it feel really empty to me.
The people that said this is going to be a Kataang movie lied. They have their moments, but most of the plot revolves around Aang, his trauma and struggles.
Katara has her moments where she gets to shine through her fighting scenes and bending skills, but besides that she is only there to support Aang or worry about him. I swear most of her dialogue was something along the lines of "Aang, we are here for you", "Aang, don't worry. We can do this", "I trust you" and that's it. There's even a scene where Aang is about to be corrupted by the staff and she has to pull him out of it which reminded me of the scene in The Promise where she is helping him get out of the avatar state. The movie ends with a time skip with her being pregnant
Zuko, Sokka and Toph are also there to help and support Aang and most of their lines are similar to Katara's, but they don't say them as often as she does (obviously)
Zuko was pretty chill. I expected him to be portrayed as a hot-headed jerk and maybe have him get in a fight with Aang or Katara at one point, but he was always patient and supportive. While Aang was rushing into things and ended up getting the team in trouble a few times, Zuko was telling him to slow down and take it easy
Also, there was no scene with them being changed into their younger and older versions of themselves and no scene with Zuko and Katara being mistaken as a couple by some weird spirit. Either they added in the movie a few things that are not part of the script or that clip was fake. Who knows?
A big portion of the movie was spent on the gaang being separated from Aang, fighting for their lives while Aang was blindly following and trusting a man that he barely knows who ends up being a villain. The fight between Aang and Taga and the way he gets stopped sounded lame, but maybe it's going to translate differently when it's going to be animated. The plot was boring to me. This movie was not worth the wait
Zutara fans, maybe we will get more than 3 milliseconds of screen time after all.
For the people that are unaware, some parts of the script got leaked as well. I didn't get the chance to read or save them because they got taken down, but some people saw them
