Gone. Not in a bang, not in a flash, but in an instance. There came silence, silence, dead silence for what felt like an eternity but was truly only a day. Every person on the world vanished, then returned to scream as if the sky itself was falling upon them.

The first post, written with enough conjunctions to signify a user who knew little English yet still pushed through as per the forum’s mandating, was clipped and panicked. Where was he, it cried. He disappeared, it cried. There was no sign of him, it cried. It cried and cried, and the green name could hardly contain its emotions: where did King go.

Names without color flew in. He’s a person, some cried. What if he’s hurt, some cried. This is all a lie, some cried. Disbelief, arguments, screaming and screaming and screaming. Leave him alone. Find him. He’ll be back soon. Leave him alone. Find him. He’ll be back soon. The sky is falling, they cried. The sky is falling. 

A boy, sat in a coffee shop, fingers digging into his laptop, stopped to answer his phone.

Ariana’s body is a crumpled heap against the bathtub. Nero watches the way her red hair splays wild and free in the water, one hand still dangling in there. Like she was just testing to see if the water was warm or not. It wasn’t. It was ice cold on purpose. He shakes a cigarette from his pack and flicks the lighter he’d crammed into his pocket earlier. It takes a second but it fires up. And when he takes that first drag he’s letting his head fall back with it. He’s tapping the ash out onto her hair and watching her like she’s gone and said something really nasty to him.

She hasn’t. Dead people can’t speak, after all.

“Did you know that Seviper venom is ten times more potent than an Arbok’s?” He takes another drag, blows it out into the space between them as he sits on the lip of the tub and crosses one leg over the other. “An Arbok’s venom is more or less stunning, not really deadly. A Seviper’s, though. Man– See, A Seviper produce a venom that’s scientifically called a hemotoxin. In case you don’t know what that means, it basically means that the venom makes blood congeal so the prey dies of a series of massive fuckin’ blood clots. Crazy, right?” He flicks more ash off his cigarette, this time into the tub. “Your blood just sort of groups up and turns to jelly right in your body. Bet that must fucking suck.” He inhales, pressing the cigarette out onto a stray drop of water that’s resting on the tub beside him. He keeps it.

“I was gonna drag this out and do this properly, you know,” he says. And it’s almost apologetic as he stands up and goes for the little briefcase he has resting on the toilet. His gloves creak. “I was going to let you all have your little moment in the sun before I ripped the rug out from under you but, see, I have a family I have to get back to. So I can’t exactly give you guys pretty send offs. Not that I would because– well you fucked up my old life and caused a liiiiittle too much trouble in my new one.” He takes a hair dryer out and, like someone with absolutely no value for human life, yanks Ariana out of the water and lets her body splatter on the floor.

“In all honesty, it’s gonna be fun watching Archer go out. He’s the most annoying one. Bet you thought that, too. Hey– your hair naturally red? It’s pretty. Was pretty. I’ll make it look nice before I drop it off, okay?”

It’s not his best work, obviously. It’s probably his sloppiest. Archer’s body and Ariana’s both take hours to clean and even longer for Nero to dump off to the local police station. He’s tired. Running on maybe six hours of sleep within the week that he’s been here. The Grunts can tell. They steer clear of him like he’s something monstrous they’d rather not wake up. But they’re grateful, somehow. They whisper thank you’s as they slip away from the HQ, bags packed full and hopes higher than the sun. There’s a place out there for them. A place nestled somewhere here in Kanto, in Kalos, in any region they can think of. A place so much better than this.

Why have fangs when you can have wings, right?

Nero’s head is getting muddy and he nearly falls over on himself when Proton steps into the room. He’s too tired he thinks. He won’t make it. Proton’s hand snags into his hair and he feels, very suddenly, that he’s made a mistake in his rushing. Maybe he’s gone and foiled his own plan.

He doesn’t remember very much of what happens next. Just that Proton is snarling at him and that there’s blood everywhere. He can feel it sliding down his face, can feel it running down his chin and over the bob in his throat. Proton hisses something vulgar and Nero feels himself laugh instinctively. And what happens next is an even bigger blur. All he remembers when he passes out is that there was a knife, there was pain, and that Proton made a noise like he’d been punched in the gut when he fell on top of him.

Gross, Nero thinks ( his mind muddier and his thoughts murky like a pool of water of which the bottom has been disturbed, leaving the water hard to look into ), he spit on my face.

And then nothing.

You’d find it hard to believe that Kris was cold — sure, she was bundled up in a hoodie  ( Henri’s )  and a coat  ( Sucker’s )  and some mittens  ( Style’s )  and a scarf  ( jeez, she didn’t even know whose. )  But she also wore shorts, and the shoes she wore on her feet were thin slip-ons that indicated ‘summer’ more than it did ‘miserable Kalosian winter.’ And wasn’t she usually ever-so-vocal about her distaste for the cold? Sure, she was shivering and bouncing and fidgeting and doing everything she could to keep herself moving, but she was still handling the cold way better than she normally would.

Her secret?? She’d found a whole ton of hand warmers  ( Sora’s )  and shoved them everywhere she could. In her mittens alone, she had six.

“ I’unno, Sucka’, d’ya t’ink ya can push me high enough? I wanna go up and ova’ ‘da top bar — or, at least high enough ta get some serious air when I jump off. ”

What a strange feeling. He was sure he’s felt this before.

“Of course I can push you high enough!” His right hand, a black and unnaturally stiff shape that pointed from his sleeve, gestured smoothly toward the free swing. It had a little bit of snow on the seat, but he knew Kris probably wouldn’t sit flat on it. Though... maybe in her giddiness, she would forget to check. She was unpredictable and Scott couldn’t assume.

All on his own in the snow-covered playground, a boy clad in navy sat with his pink Butterfree and his loaf of a Bidoof and his shivering Dedenne. His gloved hands pat pat pat at the thick blanket and worked slow and meticulous in creating a ball that grew grew grew. Even through the scarf that was tied high over his nose, his breath clouded his vision.

What a bored boy. He was sure there was something better to do.

In silence, the man who felt more like a boy sat with the ferocious beast stood in front of him. It had been a long silence so far, and it would only become longer as they ignored each other, unmoving. There were many words that could describe the situation they found themselves in with one another: tense, awkward, uncomfortable, untrustworthy. In such an clear room as the bedroom, the door wide open and the cold winter wind slamming against the balcony windows, one wouldn’t expect the air to be so heavy and suffocating.

So even breathing was difficult in the clear, open room.

The Tyranitar’s thin eyes darted once toward the boy who looked more like a man, only to fall back to an empty spot on the empty wall it stood beside. Across the room and far, far away from the boy-man. It felt no fear: Tyranitar never felt fear, for they had no reason to. And yet, it denied eye-contact with the boy-man consistently. But it insisted otherwise.

The man-boy knew fear, as most humans do. Sure, he was quite the monster in his habits and hobbies, but to assume he didn’t understand something so basic as fear was a ridiculous thought that he refused humor. He was human, as human as could be, and he knew very well what it was like to be afraid. He knew how it felt to be scared of someone you trust.

And he chuckled into the dead air at the irony of fear and trust existing in the same breath.

“You know,” he spoke clear toward the ferocious beast. “I’m not that different to your other trainer. It’s hard to believe, since you don’t know me so well, but it’s true.” And though the ferocious beast didn’t look to the man-boy, they both knew it was listening. His fingers rubbed mindlessly on the silk sheets. “You trust me.”

“There’s no reason to be so scared, Tyranap.”

It was cold and rainy the last few days. Lumiose City did not have the most glamorous winters, despite what tourists and eager newlyweds would imply. No, the winters in Lumiose City were damp, dank, blue, as uncomfortable as could be, and no one could argue as they stood in the snow, hid from the sun, and felt their noses go numb.

But that did not bother him, nor the little girl he pushed on the swing, nor the little boy who helped his pink Butterfree’s scarf stay tight. Though, he could tell that it was bothering his friend, even if she hid it well behind her excitement in just spending time together.

There are some parts of ALOLA that Scott wasn’t interested in seeing. Those disgusting, dank, dark parts that every region has. The places everyone avoids, unless it’s the only place they CAN go. Scott wasn’t interested in those places.

                                                       Unless they benefit him.

But that didn’t mean he had to LIKE them. Hoisting the collar of his coat up, thoughts of regret stirred around in his head. He should have brought an umbrella, or at least a coat with a hood, to shield himself from this obnoxious rain and this gross humidity. This place felt as thought it never stopped storming...

“Kris? Kriiiiis?” For a tiny town run by RAMPANT CHILDREN, it was surprisingly difficult to locate any potential hiding spots. Knowing the girl, she was probably curled up under a shrub, dirty and miserable. Maybe even crying. Somewhere inside him, he hoped she was crying.

“Seviper, can you hunt people down? I don’t want you to hunt her down, but I’m curious if you could, should I want you to.” ( And since he isn’t versed in reading Seviper’s body language, especially when she’s more focused on grinding her scales against the concrete, he goes on without an answer. )

another quick update: i’m in the hospital, and i have been for a few weeks now! i’m actually dealing with a very serious issue, but i’m hoping that things will become a little brighter soon.

i know only a couple people or so are actually looking forward to when i get shit done, but i swear it’s coming soon!! the only thing stopping me right now is my own will!!
