Terminal 1 and Air Traffic Control Tower, Zvartnots International Airport, Yerevan, Armenia.

Built in 1971 and closed in 2011 on the completion of Terminal 2. Despite cracks in the tower, there are plans to list the terminal complex as a national monument.

Blast furnace at the Alapayevsk Metallurgical Plant, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia.

The furnace was built in 1946 and has been abandoned for some years. This video shows the beginning of the dismantling of the furnace for scrap.

The telecommunications tower on Mount Avala, Belgrade, was designed by  Uglješa Bogdanović and Slobodan Janjić and built in 1965.

The current tower is a reconstruction after the original was destroyed by NATO bombing in 1999.

Mostyska II Railway Station, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine.

Built in 1950 in the village of Mostyska Druhi, it is a situated on the Przemyśl-Lviv railway and is a vital gateway into Ukraine for travellers from Poland. Mostyska I is situated about four miles east in the city of the same name.

The locomotives in the video are MÁV M41 Series (nicknamed “Rattles”) built by the Mávag works between 1972 and 1984.

River Rockets of the Soviet Space Age

Raketa boats were the first type of hydrofoils boats commercially produced by the Soviet Union for use on the Volga River and elsewhere. To this day, the name is often used generically in Russian for all hydrofoil river boats.

Uralmash water tower, Yekaterinburg, Russia.

The water tower was designed by M. Reisher and completed in 1931. Uralmash, or Ural’s’kiy Mashinostroitelnyy Zavod (Urals Machine-Building Plant), originally produced heavy equipment for the Urals’ mining and metallurgical industries. Later the plant produced military equipment, including the T-34 tank, before returning to heavy industry.  The area of workers’ homes around the plant is also called Uralmash.

Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, Hubei, China.

Completed in 1957, it consists of a four-lane highway over a two-track railway line and connects Hanyang, on the west side of the Yangtze, to Wuchang, on the east. Along both sides of the bridge’s length are 143 panels depicting scenes from Chinese folk tales.

Just about visible in the background is the Tortoise Mountain TV Tower.
