Sturridge Shines Again

Once again former Chelsea striker, Daniel Sturridge was the Man of the Match during the game against Aston Villa. Sturridge, who started his career with Aston Villa, delivered for Liverpool during the first half with a left footer. 

With Pepe Reina away on loan, Liverpool's new goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, has also been a key player ever since he saved a late penalty against Stoke. 

Both teams had high hopes for the game at kickoff. Liverpool finally made a breakthrough when Jose Enrique passed to Sturridge. Sturridge pushed past two Villa players and ensured a goal for the Reds. 

Frustrated with the play, the home team made every effort to neutralize the score. They created many chances for themselves, only to fail at the finish. 

The final score was 1-0. Reminding Villa that in the last 16 Premier League meetings with Liverpool, they have only beaten the Reds once.

Step Aside Barcelona: Bayern Munich Wins Again

To say that Bayern Munich is the new dream team is no longer an outrageous claim. Barcelona is still Barcelona. However, Bayern has made breakthrough after breakthrough. Bayern has been able to maintain a perfect record throughout their season, and today was no except. Once again Bayern Munich proved victorious against their rival, Nurnberg. Since the recent arrival of infamous Barcelona couch, Pep Guardiola, all eyes have been on Bayern and their new manager. It seems that everywhere Guardiola goes, so do the victories.

The first half of the game was a little rocky and didn't go as smoothly as Bayern had hoped for. Within the first half, striker Daniel "Gunni" Ginczek received possession and nearly sent Nurnberg in the lead. Things seemed to be turning around when Arjen Robben was awarded a penalty, howeverDavid Alaba missed a penalty. 

The second half proved to be more promising when Franck Ribery scored a header in the 69th minute. Minutes later, Robben cut through the right wing and made an individual goal. Xherdan Shaqiri almost made it a 3-0 when he went shy of the post. 

No one could deny that Bayern was the star of the game with 81% possession and nine shots on goal. Rest is out of the question as Bayern waits to face SC Freiburg in just three days time. No one can doubt that Bayern is the team of the year. Pep can rest assured that he is once again at the top.

Liverpool Reborn?

There's no doubt on anyone's mind that Liverpool has much improved since the last season. With the depart of Jamie Carragher and the suspension of Luis Suarez, many have been wondering about the future of the club. The arrival of manager Brendan Rogers last season had the same effect when soccer fans watched Liverpool crumple in the beginning of the season. Eventually, they did make a slow recovery, but it was too late by then. This season however, Red's around the world don't need to worry. Since the beginning of this new season, players like Gerrard, Sturridge and Agger have shined and proved themselves as valuable players. Although the season has just started, the team has proved themselves stronger and more effective then the season prior. 

The question now on everyone's mind is how long can Liverpool keep it going? Is this going to be another high and low season for the Reds, or are they finally back on top? Only time will tell. For now followers will be watching the team and awaiting the Liverpool v Manchester United game on September 1st.
