The Way Home
"..."
"Mm.."
sodeko started following you
Abel was fully expecting to be struck. He couldnât blame herâshe was just a human, and as a human, she, like Abel, was a slave to her emotions.Â
He anticipated the blow and did nothing to avoid itâit would give him an excuse to strike her back, to get her to leave. But the pain never came. Abel opened his eyesâwhen had he closed them?âto see the girl hanging her head. And he didnât know why, but ithurt to see her looking so hopeless.Â
He gritted his teeth and averted his gaze without turning his head. This girl was another example of how out of place Abel was. How alone he was. She had only come for him for âMacchan,â and she wanted him back. There was no place for Abel in her life.Â
Feeling a mixture of pity and sadness, he muttered,
âIâm sorry.â
It was all he could do. He wasnât about to give up this body now, not after spending eons dormant. But was there any point in living in a world with no place for him?
Perhaps he should have just given in a long time ago, rather than clinging so stubbornly to life.
He couldnât bear to look at her crestfallen face, so he stepped back and away from the girl. ââŚMakotoâs spirit still lingers in this world. If you can find him, granting him a physical form again will be easy.â
He turned away. And I will disappear tooâŚ
Her heart sank.
It was as if his apology confirmed that there may be no chance in getting her friend back. His apology was.. Frustrating. A lie as far as she cared.. If the Lockdown had turned out as she had feared..? This boy before her may as well have been a demon.
"Shut up."
She only wished that came out a little harsher. At this point she wanted to cry..
"Don't.." Fists clenched, she stepped back.. Hands back to her sides. "Don't apologize." The girl shook her head, clenching her eyes shut.Â
"I don't want to hear it! Just.. Shut up!"
Yuzu may have pitied Abel if she had known the full story. Maybe. But that didn't matter at this point. Why would it..? Despite his appearance, Yuzu had only just met this entity. She knew nothing about him... All she knew was that he may have taken someone dear to her. Directly involved or not... Makoto was gone... And Abel replaced him. Â
At this point, she was ready to cry.. She just wouldn't allow herself to. Not in front of Abel. Yet no matter how hard she tried, tears formed.Â
"This isn't fair!"
Frustrated, she rubbed at her eyes. She wanted him to leave.. But before she could scream at him or anything.. He spoke once more. Yuzu raised her gaze once more, eyes widening a touch. "H-He.. He's still.." So it was possible to get her friend back? Somehow..? She didn't understand. How was she expected to understand that? She'd just been a normal girl dragged into this stupid mess.. And now she was told about this..Â
"Wait..!"Â
Was Abel going to leave? As he turned away, she reached out to him, taking hold of his hand. Well.. Not really his hand.. Just one or two of his fingers were in her grip. Soon enough though, she took his hand completely with both of her own.
"Please... Help me.. Help me find him.. I.. Can't do it alone..!"
