Hazel + Sofia
Something was off. Hazel could tell that her boss was on edge though as to what it was, however, she didn’t know. Usually, Sofia would only ask for a second opinion to reinforce her own; she was well experienced. The fragmented spell before them had to be overly complicated. Reading it over, Hazel noticed how obscure the language was and realized that she’d only seen it perhaps once else in her lifetime. Dark magic wasn’t generally in her realm of comfort.
“Do we need it?” She asked.
Sofia shrugged, pushing a smile to her lips. “When you barely miss a war between gods and titans, you can never be too careful. Besides, I like everything to be quite complete. I can have a half-written spell sitting around, resting on my mind.” She sighed, flipping the page over as if the back might have some answers. “We’ll just have to keep an eye out.” She wasn’t so bold as to try and adjust a unfinished spell to suit only herself. Yet. “You’ll keep an eye out, wont you, dear?”
Persephone made herself comfortable and shuffled back in the armchair she had chosen. The Apothecary always felt like such a calming place to be, for her at least anyway. Of all the creatures in the city, Sofia was probably one of the closest friends she had and she trusted her. Their friendship had always been a two way street, which was a rarity in a city like Athens.
The water began to boil and Persephone placed her hands on the table in front of her, palms up, so that Sofia could work her magic. “Oh yes, definitely. I missed everything terribly when it was destroyed. There’s just something about this city that gives people a sense of freedom.” The Goddess wasn’t entirely correct with her statement. “I do worry about others preying on them though. The innocent ones anyway…”
Sofia pulled her own chair up close to her friend and began carefully spreading the balm across the goddess’s hands once she had thoroughly mixed it with a quick spell to speed the healing along. She smiled up at her friend. “I went a little bit of everywhere since the city was destroyed and no where was quite the same. There’s a liveliness that I think lends to that sense of freedom. Maybe it has to do with brushing with immortality.” She winked at her friend, but she knew she was trying to push dangerously past her own mortality.
She waved her hand. “You can’t protect every innocent. You’ll go mad if you do. The innocent are sometimes confused with the fools, you need to let the world sort out which are which.”
For Psyche there wasn’t much to say about her mother-in-law. The woman hated her. There was no doubt about that fact. This gave good reason for Psyche to do all she could to avoid the woman. Most days she was lucky. Today was not one of them and after spending 30 minutes in the woman’s presence Psyche was ready to hide under the closest rock she could fine. With no rocks in sight she fumbled her way to the cafe that was just down the street and took a seat at one of the outside tables. “That woman still gives new meaning to hold a grudge,” she mumbled.
Sofia looked up from the paper she was reading, raising an eyebrow. “Okay, you’re definitely not speaking about a friend, frustrating you. Is it family? Or a lover?” She smirked, raising her eyebrow, folding the paper neatly in front of her as she leaned towards the flustered girl, her face a perfectly crafted mask of sympathy.
“Well, well, well, isn’t this a surprise,” she said with a hyped kinda way that couldn’t contain her excitement within seeing the one and only Sofia Morrigan. `I wonder how long it’s been since we last met,` she thought to herself. Sofia’s tales go way back as she seemed to giggle cutely. Her age hasn’t changed her perfection either. “If it isn’t the one of a kind wicked lovely Sofia!” She
purred as she couldn’t help but sigh dramatically as she heard the tale of the misfortunate male. Feeling a little bubbly in her chest, jumping up and down, just thinking about the weaving of his tale, but Sofia seemed to be her true center staged attention. “You haven’t aged a single day my dear since the last time I saw you. Or at least heard.”
Sofia smiled kindly at the Muse, a touch of smugness finding its way in way into her smile at her reputation. Wicked and lovely would certainly be her choice adjectives for herself. “And the always eloquent Calliope, you flatter me.” She chuckled softly.
She laughed, practically electrified with the energy rolling off of her company. “I would certainly hope I haven’t, or I’m starting to lose my touch.” She smirked. “You seem well, my dear. How have you been? How has the city been treating you? The city always was the most fickle creature I’ve ever come across.”
Hazel + Sofia
Pulling her glasses off the desk, Hazel took the sheet carefully and scanned it over. A look of clarity came over her face. She pointed, “Look here. It is missing a piece- the spell is for two people. There should be another page somewhere around here.”
“I don’t see it…” Hazel searched the desk in front of her for any old-looking papyrus or spell books but nothing that matched the spell in mind. She added tentatively, “If you need my help with it, you know I’d be happy to.”
Sofia groaned, running her hand through her hair. Two people? No, no, that just wouldn’t do. Hazel was a sweet girl, and a fine witch, but she didn’t need her actually performing the spell. It might burn her out. Hell, if she was being honest, it might burn Sofia out. But that didn’t stop her curiosity to at least see if she could fix the spell for one person. Or perhaps perform both parts.
She sighed, starting to look around the cluttered books in the shop. “How did I manage to get my hands on this spell with only one page of it?” She smiled over at Hazel. “I just want the spell complete and together. Don’t want any gaps in the information.” She paused. “In case we need it,” she added belatedly.
“Hmm, you’re probably right.” The Goddess nodded. History was littered with the tales of foolish mortals, most of whom had faced unbeatable challenges and, inevitably, had been beaten. Athens was no different for the few mortals who had slipped through the net and settled there. It was a wonder how some of them managed to survive.
Persephone laughed. “Well, I’m more than happy to take the one that I need off of your hands.” She followed Sofia inside and nodded before heading towards the back of the shop, where there was some more comfortable seating. She sat down in a soft armchair, and crossed her legs, waiting for Sofia to join her.
Sofia raised her chin, giving a small nod, unquestionably in agreement that she was right about the silly mortals. She may not have been around for all the ages of gods, but she knew enough of mortals.
Once her arms were full with all manners of ingredients as she headed to the back with Persephone. She set down everything on the table, waving her hand at the teapot at a corner to begin heating for the tea. She started mixing a quick salve for her friends hands. “As silly as the mortals are, I have to say, it’s nice to have the city together and built again. If I’m going to tolerate them anywhere, it’ll be here.”
Hazel + Sofia
Sofia sighed, shutting her eyes and rubbing her temples, finally having to look at the spell she was trying to understand for an hour now at the back of the shop. “Hazel?” she called, walking towards the front where she knew the other witch was supposed to be. “This spell feels like it’s missing pieces. It has words, but it feels like every other line is missing and I’m definitely sure it mentions burning something, but it doesn’t say what. Do you have any ideas?” She handed her the paper.

☔: my muses reaction to opening their front door and seeing yours drenched in rain
Sofia quickly wrapped her arm around Persephone’s shoulders, bringing her near the fire she already had going. “You know I’m going to ask you plenty of questions, but let’s get you warm and dry first.” She was always worried about the practical, whether it was the care of her friend or the disposal of her bodies. “I’ll get you something dry to change into and some tea, yeah?” Even as she rummaged through her closet for something comfortable, her mind was racing to come up with some sort of explanation as to why Persephone would come to her through the pouring rain, with hardly a thought for at least an umbrella or a hood. She returned, handing her the clothes. “Tell me now if it’s something with Hades or your mother. Otherwise, get changed, and then tell me everything.”
☕: my muse comforting yours after the death of a loved one
The witch wrapped her arms tightly around the goddess, gently running her hand up and down her back. “You can be the big, brave Queen of the Underworld after you’ve given yourself a moment, you know. You know not to be shy around me. If you don’t want me to, I won’t tell a soul. But this happens to everyone. You’d think it get easier, but that’s the trouble with getting attached at all.” She sighed. “And you just can’t help it. Even if you try and cut yourself off, you end up caring. So you just let yourself get close and let yourself grieve when it’s done. Now, come on. Let it out. I can’t do all the talking.”

☂: what my muse does on a rainy day
She either stays in her apartment, experimenting with spells or she lingers around the shop, cleaning up and straightening things up. Or she goes out, finding any poor souls unlucky enough to be stuck in the storm. She especially likes the cover of a storm at night, with the clouds over the sky and moon and the rain blurring everyone’s vision. And she can’t help but enjoy the dramatic effect of the rain.
▲: my muse's happiest memory
Sofia had been failing at spells for days that rumor had it, her mother could perform with ease. But then she just took a day off. She visited her mother’s grave, she spoke with Thanatos of her trouble, and when she finally came around to attempting the spell again, she executed it with ease. It was probably also the last instance of her performing a spell and simply being satisfied, not desiring to push herself further. She could just be proud of herself with the single spell. After that point, her hunger for more power set in, and it followed her from that point on.
“Not to mention they expose themselves to the elements and whatever else is lurking around. If only they knew what was really out there. Perhaps then they might exercise a little restraint?” The Goddess shrugged her shoulders. She did pity them, especially with the wealth of creatures who would happily take advantage of a defenceless human.
Persephone’s expression brightened as she walked alongside Sofia to the shop that was now so familiar to her. “I’m sure you have an ointment or balm for everything.” She threw a little smile her friend’s way and chuckled. “Not that I’m complaining! These cuts would take a long time to heal in this body.”
"Oh, I doubt that would stop them. If they knew what could be waiting for them, they would just foolishly try and defend themselves against things they simple can’t defend themselves from.” She sighed, shaking her head sadly, even though she knew she depended on the mortals to make those sorts of mistakes.
“Everything you could need and probably a few that you don’t.” She chuckled. “Well, we’ll clean you up, and then the tea can give you some comfort.” She pushed the door to her shop open, going behind the counter to grab what she’d need. “You can just head straight up and get comfortable. I’ll be up once I have everything.”

“That’s true.” Persephone nodded. “Especially if there’s alcohol involved. Not that I would turn down a drink myself, but I would never allow myself to fall into the terrible states that they do, crawling out of nightclubs and all of that.” She almost shuddered at the thought. The moment that Sofia mentioned the sweaters Persephone burst out laughing. “Some of them are completely hideous!”
The Goddess showed her hands to Sofia - they were in a sorry state, all covered in tiny cuts from the sharp wreath branches. “Oh, tea would be lovely!” Persephone nodded eagerly at her friend.
“They’re a foolish bunch who are apparently allergic to any sort of control of themselves.” Though, it was a fairly ridiculous thing to come out of Sofia’s mouth. Everyone had their favorite ways of spiraling out of control, she just thought that hers being magic could make her a little bit superior.
Sofia scoffed at her hands, guiding her in the direction of her shop. “A few cuts don’t scare me. I have a balm that helps, though I’m sure you’ll be healed in no time.”
i don’t want to be alone anymore.
“I certainly hope so!” Persephone exhaled heavily and dramatically. “I do wonder exactly how festive some of the citizens are.”
“Oh definitely.” She nodded. “If I carry on then I’m worried my hands will stay in the claw-like fashion they have been in all day.” She gestured with her hands and then laughed. “I’m offically excusing myself for a break now.”
“Oh, they’ll probably just get festive at the very least for the sake of partying.” She frowned, making a face. “Though I can’t see the fun in the mortal’s fascination with completely abhorrent sweaters.” She rolled her eyes, and then quickly smiled, taking Persephone’s hand.
“Well, we can’t have that. Would you like to have some tea in my shop? Or do you need something stronger after all the work?”
