Tears of frankincense from the Boswellia Sacra tree ~ photography by Cedric Pollet.
Been so moved watching Kazuhiro Soda movies lately. Inland Sea is a documentary that incapsulates the sadness and beauty of ageing. He profoundly tethers the emotional journeys of everyday people in the small (now amalgamated) community of Ushimado to the spiritual qualities of the beautiful surrounding landscape. Also, many cats 💛 Cats are left a little wild in Ushimado. But it is made clear that Soda supports the guardianship of streetcats, an allegory to the possibilities for empathy in people towards those who have difficult lives/have been cast aside.
Recipe for oatcakes on a snowy day. 🥣 yummy 🍯 (even if a bit crumbly).
Preheat oven to 400 F.
-2 C rolled oats
-1 C buckwheat flour
-1/2 C butter
-1/2 C honey
-1/2 t salt
-1/4 t baking soda dissolved in 1/4 C boiled water.
Combine the oats, flour and salt. Heat the butter and honey gently until melted and cohesive. Add honey mix to oat mix and stir to combine. Now stir in baking soda mix. Spread onto a baking sheet with parchment. Make an even mound about 1/4” thick and a nice rectangle shape. Refrigerate for 10-15minutes. Score into 12 pieces (will be goopy; can cut fully once out of the oven).
Then put in oven for about 13 minutes.
Let cool.
Maybe add some lavender, or cardamom, or infused sugar to top before baking?
