sidenote, i love that while di feisheng knows literally nothing else about himself (except, apparently, how to read and write, what his own spiritual power feels like, and that he has done a murder or two in his time), he knows he is not going to call li lianhua daddy master. i appreciate it when characters possess this level of self-awareness even while experiencing retrograde amnesia.

If there are two lines of dialogue that more perfectly encapsulate these two characters and their relationship to each other, I don't know what they are.

Even when A-Fei doesn't know anything else, in the very core of his being, he knows Li Lianhua, and he knows that he wants Li Lianhua to live.

Li Lianhua says In this world, there are many things more important than my life, and A-Fei says Not to me.

thinking how insane it is that we don't know when di feisheng met li xiangyi but scratch that, it doesn't matter when, what matters is why di feisheng became so obsessed with li xiangyi. di feisheng is a man born for fighting, who killed all his opponents, sought to take down everyone in this world - why fixate on li xiangyi? on a man he "beat"? but scratch that, we know why. everyone who meets li xiangyi, whether it be once or for years, covets him, obsesses over him. shan gudao bases his whole life around being his brother and then his betrayer; fang duobing meets him once, barely even a backward glance, and dedicates his whole life to him; qiao wanmian is his mourner; xiao zijin & jiao liqiao are seething with jealousy at his mere memory; zhan yunfei wears his hair down for a decade; yun biqiu carries the weight of guilt over him. di feisheng is no exception, only that the reason is missing, the memory, the history. then again, maybe it's erased from the narrative, hidden from the audience, a secret only between di feisheng and li xiangyi, the blank space between the text that we are never permitted.
