not about angels
summary: this piece is history based on the events surrounding the rule of D. João III of Portugal and his wife, Catalina of Austria, mostly focused on their private life. for context, they were married for almost 40 years and during such produced 9 children that never came to outlive them, which resulted eventually in the end of the house of Avis and the Iberian union. hence, this is somewhat of a tribute to all those losses they suffered, to them, and how tough it must have been to cope with all that happened.
note: Mordomo-Mor was a type of ‘head of the household’, the title being used in Portugal at the time. their tenures, from what I read, could be lifelong, and while João had others, I used one of his father’s (Manuel I) since he didn’t change things around much when he succeeded. plus, the name was in the website of the PRF, so bear with me.
dedicated to: Veritas, the Catalina to my João ( because who else could I write Portuguese tragedy with? ).
