The guide is officially DONE!
What started as a โquick little PSAโ is now a 44-page downloadable workbook (realized I had a duplicate page LMAO-) on spotting beta reader scams, fake editors, and general writing-related nonsense. I truly blacked out and became an academic weapon for a minute there.
This took over a week/week and a half (or more, time is fake-) to put together, written in between exam breaks, revision sessions, and moments where I should absolutely have been doing something else (like sLEEPING-). Iโve tried to catch every typo, but if one survivedโฆ it fought hard and earned its place.
Itโs available to download now. It is FREE and will always be free. Take it, share it (with credits please- T-T), protect your work, protect your time, and please: stop giving your manuscripts to people with no portfolio and vibes alone!!!
Iโll be updating it over time, especially with a list of genuine, verified beta readers once Iโve gathered enough solid references! Iโm not recommending anyone without proof, so that part will take a bit more time!
For now: itโs out, itโs free, and itโs here to make scammersโ lives a little more difficult!!
This workbook contains examples, screenshots, and references to accounts that have displayed patterns commonly associated with writing-related scams, including but not limited to: unsolicited โbeta reader,โ editing, or publishing service offers.
In some cases, usernames or identifying information may appear unblurred. This is due to variations in how screenshots were originally documented. Some were captured with identifying details already obscured, while others were collected later in a different format. Where information remains visible, this has been done for the sake of transparency and accuracy, particularly when demonstrating recurring patterns across multiple accounts.
The inclusion of any account, message, or interaction in this workbook is based on observable behaviors that strongly resemble widely reported scam tactics. These may include, but are not limited to:
Identical or near-identical scripts sent to multiple writers
Lack of verifiable credentials or professional presence
Absence of portfolio, testimonials, or proof of work
Repeated unsolicited promotional messages
At the time of publication, the accounts referenced have not provided verifiable evidence that would contradict these concerns. Some remain unblocked specifically to allow the opportunity for clarification or response. Should credible proof be presented, this guide may be updated accordingly in future versions.
This workbook/guide is not intended to target, harass, or bully individuals. Its purpose is to educate writers, highlight common scam patterns, and help protect creative work, time, and resources within online writing communities.
Readers are encouraged to use their own judgment, verify services independently, and treat this guide as an educational tool.
If an account recognizes itself in these patterns, it is worth considering why those similarities exist.
Also, if I had been left alone and not SPAMMED every hour of the DAMN DAY for WEEKS, this anti-scammies guidebook would not have been created at all/or this early. Sooooo, jokes on you.
To scammies reading that post: Yes itโs personal. AND documented. AND downloadable.
Here is the google drive link peeps!
