Dib and ZIMâs Relationship
Brace yourselves for this one.
Yes, yes it will be ZIM.Â
Now, for the analysis nobody asked for! Some of these will NOT have screenshots, I apologize. I pulled mostly comic scenes for this since itâs easy to read and right there.Â
In Invader ZIM, the most most golden relationship is ZIM and Dibâs.
On a few occasions both have ended up working together like in Hamsterrgeddon and in Tak the Hideous New Girl.
Dib has protected ZIM for the benefit of saving the city/world:
The two are almost always seen together with each other:
ZIM is the type of alien to blow things up and find joy in it. Tallest Red mentioned how ZIM blew up all the Invaders and he laughed and Sizz-Lorr mentioned the annihilation of the entire species and said he was impressed by himself. He was very, very selfish but happy because of himself. Heâs never really shown happiness for other creatures or even his own species. (Exception being GIR, Minimoose, Tallests, Irken Empire.)
However, ZIM mentions in the Mopiness of DOOM script Dibâs return and Dib being his old self makes ZIM happy.
And in the Return of Keef , ZIM and Dib mutually work together to destroy Keef and get rid of him. Doing the one thing they knew would be the worst thing ever imaginable.:
And yet, they were still hugging after all of that. And it was recorded on tape.
I mean, Dibâs explanation on how much he hates ZIM alone and other aliens deny those remarks says a lot too. I mean OTHER ALIENS ARE ABLE TO TELL THIS. ITâS SORTA FUNNY.
Have you ever had a friend tell you not to do something stupid? Yeah, Dib is that type of friend to ZIM.
Not to mention, but Dib is able to remember so many things about ZIM and tell him in utterly perfect detail. (I mean itâs stalkerish in the first panel and that ended up being GIRâs fave place but gotta give Dib credit where itâs due.) Best of all, ZIM reiterates on it sometimes.
Iâd like to point out that theyâve reached a point in their relationship where they can casually converse with one another and even play ridiculous games with eachother. ZIM takes it so seriously as well in the panels afterwards.
This new running gag is just funny and I have to throw it in:
Seriously though he acknowledges how long ZIM has been on Earth and is offended he doesnât know his gender/sex.
Theyâre able to sorta roast each other:
And Dib points out one of ZIMâs flaws which ultimately irritates him. Its funny that this panel nearly seems meaningless but doesnât ZIM usually brush insults off after a good old scream? Or go, âNah, that ainât trueâ or âI AM ZIIIMM!!â along those lines. In this one, he just seems so genuinely pissed off. Like, hearing that from Dib struct a heartstring. Just look at his expression.
You know when you finally agree with someone theyâre a perfect friend. Dib defends ZIM in this panel AGAIN.
Their relationship isnât just Dib doing this to ZIM all the time.
Itâs along the lines of this:
ZIM needs Dib and Dib needs ZIM so that way they can both be valid in their respected societies. Dib needs ZIM so heâs not the crazy kid that believes in supernatural and ZIM needs Dib to show he CAN be a reliable invader and is strong. Theyâre both outcasts in their societies. I think if they saw past their differences they could be life long best friends.
I truly believe they are best friends or friend-enemies.Â
ZIM has Gir, Minimoose, and Skoodge.
Dib has Gaz.
But they all have each other if it came down to the benefit of them both.
