Life update!!
Turns out I almost certainly have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, several PTs and doctors agree but no one is willing to diagnose me, and I had to get surgery on my left ankle today because the ligaments were so stretched out it wouldn’t stop rolling and the arthritis in my joint was getting worse at an alarming rate from the rolling.
This is was my first limb surgery and first time on crutches and I’m Nervous how the next week will go until I get a cast. But I’m home and resting and glad it’s fixed
Another update: my rheumatologist “doesn’t feel qualified” to diagnose me with EDS, but had no recommendations who could. Then I asked him the difference between Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and EDS, and he said EDS is usually diagnosed by specialists of EDS. But he feels comfortable diagnosing me with HSD? So that’s my current diagnosis, which I’m fine with for now. It answers a lot of questions, and if I can eventually get an actual EDS diagnosis without bending over backwards for it then cool.
Oh and recovery from my ankle surgery was about 20x harder than I expected it to be, lmao. Non weight bearing for two weeks, a “walking cast” for two weeks that really fucked with my hypermobile knees, then a boot for two weeks which was possibly more annoying than the cast lol but at least I could shower without wearing a cast cover. I LOVE my PT team and the initial ankle pain I went in for is definitely gone, which is amazing! But recovery is very slow going, I’ve been in PT since October 16th and still have another month or two to go, I think.
Honestly terrified the other ankle will eventually need the same thing 🙃 hopefully it won’t get bad enough for surgery until my kids are older and can help more. But that’s also when I’ll probably need my heart ablation, my electrophysician said perimenopause and/or menopause may make my afib come back because estrogen is a “cardiac protector” and when hormonal changes happen it tends to cause issues with heart rhythms. Which probably is why pregnancy fucked with my heart rhythm so much, especially in the first trimester and my third trimester into immediately postpartum when the biggest shifts happened. I qualify for an ablation now, but the medication I’m on has successfully prevented afib for over a year now so hopefully it will keep working for as long as possible.
Oh and he said I don’t qualify for a POTS diagnosis because my tachycardia doesn’t just happen when I stand up lol. I guess there’s no specific diagnosis for whatever my heart does.
growing up in chicago i always found it very insulting whenever i went to summer camp or whatever and suburban kids and rural kids made jokes about “chiraq” and asked me if i needed to carry a gun to take the train (real question that was asked to me by an ADULT when i was 14). like it was rude and distasteful and obviously rooted in racism and it always pissed me off.
and now in this current moment i’m just so mad. even more mad than i was then bc i was RIGHT those jokes were EVIL that all the propaganda about big cities being these crime ridden warzones are now being used as a pretense to fucking invade my city and terrorize my community. chicago forever
“Chiraq” in particular always makes me so crazy bc it manages to be racist about two places at once

giant redwood trees really are so cool, they just have something incredibly special going on. it's hard to describe if you haven't seen them
a certain je ne sequoia, if you will
"this is unbecoming of me" is genuinely a useful thing to have in your mental toolbox
Like. you probably shouldn't say it out loud, but if you hold yourself to any principles or standards, you should really really be able to recognize when you've failed to meet those principles
Lol.
Happy Easter
#come on excommunicate his ass it'd be really funny
When my mother gets into facebook fights with her childhood friends who grew up to be racists, she passive-aggressively fucks with them by making a donation to a local refugee assistance organization in the name of their immigrant grandmothers, a donation large enough that they get a card from the organization saying so. She passive aggressively fucks with the same demographic of friends who #bluelivesmatter by commenting with details about the various petty crimes they committed together as teens, e.g. “Wow Joey, where was all the respect for blue lives when we hotboxed your uncle’s patrol car?”
And obviously both these approaches are specific to former juvenile delinquent turned UMC babyboomer but it feel still inspirational in that we can all find our own chaotic good pettiness niche.
Our beautiful puggle, lovingly renamed Gagum by our oldest, died today. He went peacefully in our arms after declining quickly from cancer. I will miss him so much. He was here for all of my health decline, and I literally don’t know how to cope without him. I still feel him with me
i think you should be able to emoji react to MyChart lab results
Quick what are you doing RIGHT now (besides scrolling Tumblr)
I will never get over how weird it feels to have tragic and emotional chapters of your life where you just also still go to work, and the grocery store, and see funny videos online all while feeling such paralyzing fear and heartache
life just goes on no matter what
It feels so weird! It doesn't make sense that life just goes on. It's like everything around you keeps moving while you suddenly stand still.
Election thoughts?
Not great!
