Looking for illustrators for my space fantasy TTRPG

Hello! I am looking for artists, especially local artists in or from the Nordics, to work with in creating images and illustrations for my Tabletop Role-Playing Game, Solar Winds. Any artwork provided will be for commercial use, fully credited and payed appropriately. Rates, stylisation wishes, and further details are listed below. If you are not interested, but know someone who might be, please share this with them!

Solar Winds is a space fantasy TTRPG that draws inspiration from various Nordic myths and folklore, with an especial focus on Finnish and Sámi folklore, as well as other stories such as Star Wars. It focuses on roleplay-driven storytelling while providing an elegant structure to combat, and allowing players to traverse both stars and a multitude of climates and environments. Think heroic or epic fantasy, with the addition of being set in space and containing starships.

Artists chosen for the project will be paid 50% up front, 50% after completion. I have a total budget of about 15 000kr (NOK) (~1 300€). The project is funded by TVIBITstigen (https://tvibit.net/stigen). The budget is split between the artpieces like this:

2x Landscapes / full scenes, 3000kr each

6x Characters, 1000kr each

2x Vehicle designs, 1000kr each

Smaller sketches or concepts for weapons, armour, etc., about 500kr each (These are my estimations for how much I'm going to pay for the different kinds of artwork, though final price will be agreed upon with each artist.)

I'm most interested in semi-realistic artstyles, semi-stylised artstyles, and paintings (digital or otherwise). While the artworks would need to be delivered digitally, I accept both digital and traditional artstyles for this project. You will also have an advantage if your portfolio includes some of the following subjects:

Process images or timelapses (to root out AI)

Science fiction

Diverse landscapes

Various insectoid humanoids (bug people) (this one is a massive plus)

Mechanical humanoids (droids, exos, robots, etc.)

Vehicles (starships, hoverbikes, walkers, cars, etc.) (especially if self-designed)

City streets, megacities

Action, combat, war

Post-apocalypse

Armour and weapon designs (especially if self-designed)

A mixture of fantasy and technology

Cryptids, folkloric entities

Northern lights

In addition, while anyone can apply here, I am especially looking for artists in or from the Nordic region, especially Sámi or Finnish artists, as this project takes a lot of inspiration from Sámi and Finnish folklore in particular. If you have another indigenous background, that is also an advantage!

Finished writing the rules for the first of the three magic systems for Solar Winds. Well, I think the rules are mostly finished at least, though I expect to have to revise things throughout testing.

Over 2700 words of runic magic,, 4 pages. I love being productive (this is the most productive I've been in a while (yes I still need to make contact with artists that reached out)). I still need a few tables, and maybe a graph if I'm feeling extra nerdy (didn't make the graph myself tho, I sadly didn't get the math nerd flavour of neurodivergency /j)

This first playtest became more manageable in my head after deciding to start with only the one magic system, then expand more later

Thanks for asking! I myself am of sámi ancestry, though I was not raised as a sami. I only found out recently that my grandma is sámi, and am now studying the north sámi language. I will always be looking to have sensitivity readers for any writing I do that takes inspiration from minority cultures and folklores, especially indigenous ones.

Hei! Jeg ser etter kunstnere, spesielt lokale kunstnere i eller fra Norden, til å lage bilder og illustrasjoner til rollespillet (Tabletop Role-Playing Game) mitt, Solar Winds. All kunsten er til kommersielt bruk, og kunstnerne vil bli kreditert og betalt. Priser, stilønsker og nærmere detaljer listes under. Hvis du ikke er interessert, men kjenner noen som er det, håper jeg at du vil dele dette med dem!

Solar Winds er et "space fantasy" rollespill (TTRPG) henter inspirasjon fra flere Nordiske myter og folklore, med ekstra fokus på finsk og samisk folklore. Det henter også inspirasjon fra andre fortellinger, som Star Wars. Spillet fokuserer på rollespill-drevne fortellinger, samtidig som den gir en elegant struktur til kamp. Fortellingene skal kunne foregå blant stjernene, men også i varierte klimaer og landskap. Tenk epic fantasy, men også i verdensrommet med stjerneskip.

Kunstnere som blir valgt til prosjektet vil bli betalt 50% på forskudd, og 50% ved ferdigstilling. Jeg har et totalt budsjett på omtrent 15 000kr. Prosjektet er økonomisk støttet av TVIBITstigen (https://tvibit.net/stigen). Budsjettet mitt er delt opp slik:

February 2024, week 6

Not much progress this week either. I find myself being stuck at the fact that I have to write into my note taking program, rather than into a book, and thus have worked some more to setting up the formatting in the program I'll use to make the book itself. Hopefully I can get that to a place where I feel it's fine soon, so I can insert all my current content and continue writing.

SolW dev log #2

February 2024, week 5

I forgot to write the log for the previous week and almost for last week… my weeks have been very busy. Some of that stuff is done now, so I'll hopefully have time to write some more this week.

As the first playtest for v0.1 is slowly arriving, I have realised how important it will be to have a solid character creation guide and a system for actually teaching all the rules to new players already in v0.2

Powers

Transferred all manoeuvres and spells into Powers

Started making some new ones, including Smokescreen and army of spirits

Gonna rework the fireball spell

Continued writing weapons into their new format

SolW dev log #1

January 2024, week 3

This is the first proper dev log! the highlight here is probably that I started the weekly dev logs... But! I did also start working on the Specialist and Artificer classes! It isn't much yet, but a start is a start.

Next week, my main priority will probably be to finish converting spells and manoeuvres into powers (please let me know if you have suggestions for a better name than them, I'm starting to think I might have to stick with just powers...)

Rules

Started converting spells and manoeuvres into "powers" (and struggled with finding a better name than powers)

This means spells and manoeuvres won't be separate, but will be based on the same system to allow martial-spellcaster fluidity

Classes

Specialist Started work on the specialist class Including some one of its subclasses, the assassin Will have a skill Specialty, allowing it to not only be a master in a skill, but also gain additional benefits based on that skill

Artificer Started work on the artificer class It will be martial or magical, based on a choice you make at level 1

Rogue Added more features that would fit for the gunslinger subclass

Worked on making a layout, should be able to add text and content to it soon

Solar Winds masterpost

Solar Winds is a space fantasy ttrpg with inspiration from folklore and mythology, with everything from magic and swords to guns and spaceships, where martials and mages can both flourish, and where untold stories lie awaiting.

Solar Winds will highlight some folklores that don't get enough love; Finnish and Sámi mythologies. In the beginning it will also include Nordic and Pagan folklore as well, and later expand to draw inspiration from more folklores, mythologies, and beliefs, ancient or otherwise.

Mechanically, it is an Action Point system with a focus on making martial characters as fun and versatile as spellcasters. So far it is a d20 system, but development isn't far yet, so such might change if something better presents itself.

This is the masterpost for my work in progress ttrpg, Solar Winds. I will be posting weekly dev logs which, in addition to any other important posts about SolW I make, will be linked here.

I will gladly answer questions and comments, as I know the information here isn't much to go off of, so I hope to be able to explain and show what Solar Winds is and will become.
