Camden took a deep breath in as twigs and fallen leaves crunched under her boots. The air was crisp and it reeked of the pack, their pack, her pack. It was still such a strange feeling, so strange to associate herself, her safety, with the smell of others and the smell of their alpha. The young woman beside her, Adley, her smell was strongest. “Do you smell that?” Camden asked as they continued walking along the territory’s edge. She glanced in the blonde woman’s direction, brown eyes taking in her appearance before quickly sweeping along the tree line. “Deer. Does and fawns.”
The whole idea of pack dynamics, of jobs and chores and responsibilities split between them all generally annoyed Camden. She hated relying on other people and she generally hated others relying on her. “It’s amazing they stay so close to predators.” Camden continued, trying to fill the silence. She didn’t know Adley at all and that needed to change. At the very least, so she could decide if this young woman was a threat and someone Camden needed to keep her eye on. “What are you thinking?”
Adley was fairly new to the pack life, she’d stumbled across them whilst looking for her own food, but with the weather cooling off and things harder to find, it was pointless in trying to battle a whole pack for just a meal, and they had graciously taken her in for the time being, as long as she pulled her weight from the start in helping with everything they did. When Camden mentioned the smell, the blonde nodded, her nose searching out the direction. “There’s two lots.” She spoke up, taking a deep breath herself to get a real idea of tracks. “Similar directions, but they split off, just over there.”
“I don’t suppose they’re used to predators like us, towns people come through the woods plenty, we’re not the issue, it’s what we hide that catches them off guard.” Glancing up at the brunette beside her, she caught sight of her glancing back, before she shrugged her shoulders gently. “Still adjusting to this whole, pack thing. Makes me anxious I guess.” She didn’t know who she could trust when it came to others, it was easy to make mistakes when others were involved, and to survive, mistakes couldn’t be made.
Camden nodded along as Adley spoke of the deers' exact location, down to the split of the group. It was hard to determine who was a werewolf from birth and who was bitten. Some people struggled with deciphering new senses, like the enhanced smell and hearing. For Camden, it was easy, second nature. These abilities were instinctual. "That's a good point," Camden said. Camden often thought of herself as a wolf, a predator, a threat before she considered herself human. "They don't trust their eyes." "It takes some getting used to. But it's hard to rely on strangers so I understand the anxiety. I've only been with them a couple years." It was refreshing to hear someone have the same feelings on pack life. Most wolves were grateful for leadership, community, and protection. Camden remembered waking up surrounded by the pack, in wolf form, bleeding from her torso. She remembered the unfamiliar scent, the fear and aggression and hesitation in the air at coming across an unconscious werewolf with the scent of an alpha and murderous blue eyes. It was so long ago and Camden earned their trust, earned her place. She could relax and they even liked her presence but that didn't mean this was permanent. Adley was beautiful, Camden wasn't blind to that. The young woman was weary and slow, submissive when the pack found her wandering through their territory. "When was the last time you were in a pack?"

Solara paused, unsure what would cause her soul mate to refuse her touch. Yes, it was all very new still, but this side of Hayley worried her. “I thought you liked when I touch you.”
Relationship or no relationship, meeting a soulmate was generally met with happiness and joy. Some refrained from getting into something serious in the hopes they’d cross their other half within their lifetime, others were prepared that maybe one day, someone would swoop in and surprise them or their partner with a love that did not even closely equal what they had before. And then you had people that were in active denial; like Hayley. She had made herself believe that Josh was it and that the talk about soulmate was one big fucking lie’; but it was hard to keep that thought pattern now she was suddenly faced with Solara.
She could hear the plead to wait and almost immediately -involuntarily- stopped in her tracks. Hayley cursed under her breath, trying to step out of this building to forget this interaction when a hand caught her wrist. She could feel the grip burn at the tattoo, and not because she was holding her tight. “I have a life” She said, her fingers curling around Solara’s hand. It almost went automatically. She didn’t have a life, she only thought she did. Her last interaction with Josh had left multiple bruises on her body, properly covered by her clothing.
She was alone for the weekend, she had the house to herself, and part of her wanted to really stop fighting this. But then she remembered his words, his warnings. “Solara” This was the first time she said the name out loud, paired with a light tremble in her voice. It resonated through her body, a light twitch in her fingers in response. She couldn’t let go of the woman’s hand, even if she wanted to. The longer they stood here like this, close to each other, the harder it was to keep her thoughts present. There was peace and safety to be found with this woman and it was something she longed for.
Solara listened as Hayley spoke. Listened as the brunette woman’s heart beat against her ribs, as her breathing settled (if only so slightly), and Solara relinquished her hold on Hayley’s wrist in favor of taking her hand. Solara sucked in a breath when the buzz traveled up her arm, her eyes catching Hayley’s to see if she felt the same. To see if she felt whatever magnetic force that was harmonizing between them. /Solara/. Gods, this woman would be the death of her and the vampire could hardly care. Yet, the longer the wonderful feeling encircled them the more Hayley’s entire essence consumed the vampire. It was entirely unfair, but Solara’s vampiric abilities gave her a unique first look at her soulmate.
“Hayley,” Solara echoed, her voice strong where the humans had tremored. “I know you must feel this.” The vampire gave a gentle tug, urging her soulmate closer, should the human finally give in and accept this. Solara’s lips spread in a small, reassuring smile, something she hardly ever did. Somewhere in the back of Solara’s mind she knew something was off with Hayley. Something was dark or, dare she say, broken? She smelled weaker, but perhaps that was the stress of her day and the shock of their meeting. “And if you don’t…” the vampire threaded their fingers together, holding both the human’s hands, gently caressing Hayley’s thumbs with her own. Solara wanted to force the point, wanted to over power Hayley and show her the wonderful spark between them. Their fire could ignite in an instant, if only Hayley would accept Solara’s kindling. More sparks curled along Solara’s spine as more of their bodies touched. She took a deep, unnecessary breath. Hayley smelled delicious. She could only imagine the taste of her blood, but that was an entirely different and difficult topic to conquer. The burn reared it’s ugly head against the back of the vampire’s throat, and she swallowed it back. “I don’t think I’ll believe you if you deny it,” she chuckled, soft and private and playful.
“I- no i’m not waiting for someone” The brunette answered, but her anxiety did not seem to drop. How was she supposed to tell this stranger that she’d already met her soulmate; that her and Josh were endgame no matter what? How was she supposed to say this, when part of her knew that this wasn’t true? For years she had loved and hated a man that was by no means a nice guy. He lied, he cheated, he manipulated and he got physical with her; and she got physical with him, until he abused his power to put her in her place. They were highly toxic, but he was imprinted in her mind at this point and all of this real soulmate stuff? It was fucking her up. “You can’t-” Hayley said when Solara offered her help. Solara. Her soulmate. Fuck. “Maybe you can, by staying away from me” Hayley put money down on the bar to pay for both of their drinks and got up from her chair. She had to leave, or she really would not be able to anymore. And the worst was, as much as she thought she wanted to walk away, all she wanted was for Solara to stop her. Her body was physically fighting her on this decision, her knees were weak and every bone in her body was telling her to stop, turn around and hide in the arms of someone that was supposed to be some stranger- only it didn’t feel that way.
Solara tried to school her expression into a neutral one but the way Hayley blurted that she wasn’t waiting for someone felt off. It all turned sour, Hayley’s walls coming up, her eyes turning frantic and refusing to meet the vampire’s gaze. Solara’s dead heart would have been racing. She was convinced she would never meet this person. Her person. Who was indeed human and Solara couldn’t help thinking how cruel the world could be, making her wait two hundred years to find her Hayley. She couldn’t help it, Solara was going to be selfish. There was no way Hayley didn’t feel the energy between them, the pull and the heat, and the peace. “Wait, please,” Solara barely got the words out before Hayley was walking out the door. The vampire huffed, rolling her eyes and slapping down a large bill, pocketing what the brunette left. Money wasn’t and issue and Hayley would never pay for Solara’s things. She followed the young woman, noticed the hesitation in her body language; the stiffness in her legs and the reluctance of her pace. “Hayley, please wait,” she started, reaching out and catching her soulmate’s wrist, the one with the tattoo, the one with her name. “I know this is strange, but give it a minute. I have no expectations of you, and I know you must feel what I’m feeling.” She leaned closer, took Hayley’s other hand and took a deep breath.
It might be good that Solara did not actually wait for permission, because Hayley wouldn’t know what to say. Every bone in her body was drawn to the woman in front of her, craving to get close, to touch the other’s skin, to feel- her mind was fighting her on this. She was in love with Josh and no one could change that- right? She should be true to him and walk away from this woman, that was the only rational decision to make, but she couldn’t. No matter what her mind decided, she was frozen in her spot.
The moment their hands connected, Hayley could feel the electricity shooting through her body and for a moment, just for a moment, she thought her heart might have stopped beating. Solara’s touch was hitting her hard and she did her best to hide the emotions that went through her. She looked rather stoic, but if she wouldn’t have fought it, she most likely would have cried. Hayley didn’t speak, not even when Solara basically asked what was going on inside her head. There was no simple way to explain her situation to a complete stranger and she did not know whether she wanted to. “I wasn’t expecting to find you either” Hayley said after a moment of silence. “Ever” The brunette’s thoughts went back to Josh, and then slowly she glanced about the room a bit. It was a casual move, but a vampire would be able to catch onto the anxiety. For some reason she was afraid he’d suddenly be here and see her with Solara, even when he was on a roadtrip hours away. She was instinctively bracing for some kind of lash back.
Solara took everything in. The tiny ways Hayley reacted to the touch, like the slight raising of hair on her arms, a suggestion of goosebump. The woman’s jaw was tight, most likely clenched, and the way she looked around had Solara scanning the area looking for any sign of a threat. Ever. Hayley had to be under 30 years old and she never expected to meet her soulmate. Solara didn’t understand it, these days it was relatively easy to find someone if you absolutely wanted to, technology was so advanced. Though, so much energy was being created between them the vampire couldn’t tell if her logic was clear or if this meeting was calming every worry she could imagine?
“Well, here we are now,” she hummed, running her fingers along the expanse of Hayley’s wrist, circle along her tattoos. “And you look nervous.” Solara didn’t know what was happening but the idea of Hayley being afraid when she could potentially ease those fears was driving her adrenaline up. “Are you waiting for someone?” Solara frowned slightly, not liking that thought. They were essentially made for each other, how could they stay apart now? Solara wouldn’t have it. She took a deep breath, looking Hayley over and smooth her lips into a soft smile. “How can I help?” She was growing more protective of this young woman by the minute. Solara wouldn’t let anything harm her.

Usually, she’d be the one behind the bar on a Friday night, but Josh had asked her kindly if she could take some days off so they could spend the weekend together. Little did she know he’d leave her behind to hang out with this cute blonde he’d met at work, leaving her behind with a bunch of free time she did not know how to fill up.
She did not know how she got here; alone and drinking away intrusive thoughts about her life. She had no friends and no contact with her family, other than with her sister, who was a trauma surgeon working in a hospital across state. She was socially isolated and she’d let that happen; how and why she did not quite understand. It wasn’t like ‘Josh’ was written across her wrist; he wasn’t her soulmate, nor would he ever be, but she did love him nonetheless.
Solara’s name was hidden behind a tattoo; covered because her toxic boyfriend could not handle that last bit of power he missed over her. She was not sure if she believed in true soulmates; whether it was really worth more than what she had now. The perfectly designed tattoo worked away every last detail of the woman’s name, leaving only the memory and the burning sensation to remind Hayley that it was there. She was hesistant about showing it, guilt or perhaps shame overflowing her when the woman asked to have a look. Hayley raised her arm and reached it out so the woman could study the ink that danced around her wrist. She had long forgotten about their surroundings, even her whiskey a distant memory now it was set aside on top of the bar.
“I-” Hayley did not know what to say, her gaze once more trailing to the stranger’s wrist. Solara had not bothered to hide her name, it was just sitting there on her wrist for the world to see. And she also said it: my Hayley. Words that sounded so soothing, so intimate… “I am sorry about hiding your name” her voice was soft, gentle. “I honestly did not think- I didn’t believe-” or better said, Josh did not believe. Hayley was blind to the grip he had over her, and how many of her voiced opinions were actually his, not hers. His soulmate died of cancer a few years back, Hayley came soon after. Things between them were good at first, or at least they seemed good, and things had kind of snuck up on her. She never realized what manipulative steps he took, she did not realize how he controlled her more than she wanted to. Even now, without him here, his voice was still playing her mind.
Hayley offered her arm and Solara tilted her head to catch a specific angle. Sometimes you could see the outline or a difference in skin when tattoos overlapped, but the vampire could not detect it. Then an apology came, Solara looking back up at the hesitant human. So maybe Hayley didn’t want her, or maybe she was ashamed at some point; it was quite the move to completely erase the soulmate mark. But Hayley’s energy was low, her posture low, like she was trying to hide. And yet, Solara wanted to know her. “There’s no need to apologize, Hayley,” she said the name like it was cherished, like it was their tiny secret. “You don’t owe me any explanations.”
It was true. Solara had just met her, there was no way to know her past or her present. Hayley looked young, she was spry and fresh faced, probably around the age Solara was when she was turned. “Do you mind if I...” she trailed off, not necessarily looking for permission, it was more of a warning. Solara reached forward, grazing her fingers along Hayley’s and inhaling sharply at the hum of electricity that followed. Carefully, the vampire curled her hand around Hayley’s, supporting it from underneath. With her free hand she pressed her thumb against the tattoo, the warmth of Hayley’s skin crawling all the way up her arm. “I’m dying to know what’s going on in that head of yours.” Solara teased, a small smile spreading her lips. “I’m sure you weren’t expecting to run into me tonight. I wasn’t expecting to find you.”

Solara smiled as an exiting couple held the door to the bar open for her. What a lovely day, her students surprisingly prepared for their exams, not one of them getting below an 80%. Biology was a passion of hers, the intricacies of the body were unfathomable. Humans, such delicate creatures. Filled with blood, susceptible to pain and agony after injury, and the mind does strange things when it’s in shock. It did help that she had decades of experience in the field, decades of stalking these tiny creatures and horrible fascination with even the goriest of fatalities.
The bar was bustling. It was filled with people, all humans, laughing, feasting, and drinking in celebration of the end of the work week. The smells of the bar wafted through the air, invading Solara’s senses as she took an unnecessary breath. It smelled faintly of antiseptic, greasy bar food, and whiskey. Mostly it smelled like humans. The next breath she took was filled with something different…softer and just sweet enough, reminding Solara of fresh fruit. She easily pin pointed where the scent was coming from, her eyes landed on a gorgeous dark haired woman. Who was she? She smelled divine and Solara was determined to learn more. The vampire waltzed over to the bar, leaning up against it before sighing gently, and angling her body towards the woman.
Solara didn’t care for the name on her wrist. When she was young, centuries ago, she craved to find the person who carried the name on her wrist. The dark, delicate script with the pronounced H. Hayley. “That looks like a whiskey,” Solara said, in lieu of a greeting. “I might have to join you.” She ordered her drink, slid into the empty stool next to the young woman. “Are you meeting anyone here?”
There was something soothing about disappearing into a crowd. Intoxicated and distracted, none of the other customers even noticed that she was there alone, losing herself in a string of thoughts that luckily, became less and less intrusive which each sip of the rich whiskey she just ordered. She wouldn’t have put much thought to young woman’s presence besides her if it wasn’t for the invading chill that ran down her spine the moment the stranger spoke. She frowned, but only briefly, before glancing over her shoulder to catch who was talking to her.
She was hit with a wave of emotions, none of which she understood, but it was well hidden under her calm demeanor. She smiled gently and nodded. “You’re welcome to join me” She replied, unaware that the vampire in front of her would immediately catch the change of rhythm in her heartbeat or the light tremble that played her voice. “I am not. Are you?” Her question was boring, superficial, but feeling the strong heartbeat in her throat was distracting. She couldn’t think.
This young woman was interesting. The moment their eyes met Solara could hear her heart rate increase, there was a waver in her voice, and her scent? Absolutely decadent. Solara had to know more. “Thank you,” she hummed, taking a sip of her own whiskey. The vampire nodded as it was revealed this woman was alone, and Solara couldn’t help but glance at her wrists, though she couldn’t detect anything legible. Some people hid their marks, the names on their wrists and it wasn’t any of Solara’s business. “No I just came by to get a drink after a busy week.”
She leaned closer, unable to tell why this woman was so intriguing. Her blood smelled sweet and fresh, yes, but that wasn’t all. Solara was locked onto her heartbeat, the tiny thrumming from this woman’s chest. It was melodic, almost poetic, and she had never heart a sweeter sound. “I’m Solara, by the way,” she said, angling herself so she was facing the brunette woman, so she could take in all her essence and energy. It was filling Solara up, creating a light, glow in her chest. “To who do I owe the pleasure?”
For reasons unknown, Hayley had hoped for an answer similar to Solara’s. The fact that she was here on her own accord meant that here was no pressure to leave. She did not quite know why she wanted the stranger to stay, but she also did not give it much thought; she wasn’t allowed to. Over the last few years Josh had managed to isolate her from everyone in her life and turn and twist her thoughts into believing that he was all she deserved. There wasn’t better, only worse. She was no longer peeking at people their wrists and she lost sight of her own. Soulmates weren’t real, at least, that’s what Josh told her, so why continue the search?
I’m Solara, by the way.
Hayley thought her heart stopped for a second, suddenly feeling the stranger’s name burn into her wrist as a sheer reminder that it was still there. She could tattoo over it a thousand times, but the name of the woman would never leave her mind, even if she wanted to. Eyes shot towards the stranger’s wrists, finding the six dark letters perfectly curled together into a name; her name.
Her eyes went back up to Solara, feeling the strange urge to run. She was not allowerd to feel this way. Every single bone in her body ached to get closer to the brunette that she had only just met and every single feeling she ignored before became clear now. No matter what Josh said, her body was responding to someone she hardly knew, in a way she had not experienced before. “Hayley-” she looked up to find beautiful brown eyes staring back at her. “My name is Hayley”
The woman before her froze, tensing up for a few seconds, her heart pounding harder. Solara could smell the adrenaline fueling the woman before her. She observed quietly, taking in the way the young woman glanced to her wrist. Solara never hid the name on her skin, she didn’t see the point, and lots of people never found their soulmate. Not to mention there was no way for her to tattoo over it, her skin would reject the ink. Solara’s brows furrowed as the woman introduced herself, Hayley. Her dead heart pumped, the sheer force of all the muscles in her body tensing forcing the muscle to contract.
“Hayley,” Solara said, the words sliding over her lips, and she looked up catching dark, stormy eyes. “Hayley...” the vampire rested her forearm on the bar, bringing the tattoo into the light, and brushed her fingers over it, “like my Hayley?” This woman, this Hayley looked so vulnerable, like a deer caught in bright lights, completely overwhelmed with her sudden change in reality. Solara couldn’t be sure yet, but the ache she felt in her chest and the harmony of her bones suggested it was true. The vampire could only imagine how Hayley tasted, her blood, her lips, and skin. She motioned to Hayley’s arm, trying to make out an S or ab L, but couldn’t find what she desired.
“Your wrist,” Solara said quietly, feeling like they were the only two people in the building. The tattoos on Hayley’s skin danced along the expanse of her wrist, a clever design to conceal anything underneath. “Do you mind if I look?” She knew it was an intrusive question, especially considering the name was hidden. Solara smiled as an exiting couple held the door to the bar open for her. What a lovely day, her students surprisingly prepared for their exams, not one of them getting below an 80%. Biology was a passion of hers, the intricacies of the body were unfathomable. Humans, such delicate creatures. Filled with blood, susceptible to pain and agony after injury, and the mind does strange things when it’s in shock. It did help that she had decades of experience in the field, decades of stalking these tiny creatures and horrible fascination with even the goriest of fatalities.
The bar was bustling. It was filled with people, all humans, laughing, feasting, and drinking in celebration of the end of the work week. The smells of the bar wafted through the air, invading Solara’s senses as she took an unnecessary breath. It smelled faintly of antiseptic, greasy bar food, and whiskey. Mostly it smelled like humans. The next breath she took was filled with something different…softer and just sweet enough, reminding Solara of fresh fruit. She easily pin pointed where the scent was coming from, her eyes landed on a gorgeous dark haired woman. Who was she? She smelled divine and Solara was determined to learn more. The vampire waltzed over to the bar, leaning up against it before sighing gently, and angling her body towards the woman.
Solara didn’t care for the name on her wrist. When she was young, centuries ago, she craved to find the person who carried the name on her wrist. The dark, delicate script with the pronounced H. Hayley. “That looks like a whiskey,” Solara said, in lieu of a greeting. “I might have to join you.” She ordered her drink, slid into the empty stool next to the young woman. “Are you meeting anyone here?”
There was something soothing about disappearing into a crowd. Intoxicated and distracted, none of the other customers even noticed that she was there alone, losing herself in a string of thoughts that luckily, became less and less intrusive which each sip of the rich whiskey she just ordered. She wouldn’t have put much thought to young woman’s presence besides her if it wasn’t for the invading chill that ran down her spine the moment the stranger spoke. She frowned, but only briefly, before glancing over her shoulder to catch who was talking to her.
She was hit with a wave of emotions, none of which she understood, but it was well hidden under her calm demeanor. She smiled gently and nodded. “You’re welcome to join me” She replied, unaware that the vampire in front of her would immediately catch the change of rhythm in her heartbeat or the light tremble that played her voice. “I am not. Are you?” Her question was boring, superficial, but feeling the strong heartbeat in her throat was distracting. She couldn’t think.
This young woman was interesting. The moment their eyes met Solara could hear her heart rate increase, there was a waver in her voice, and her scent? Absolutely decadent. Solara had to know more. “Thank you,” she hummed, taking a sip of her own whiskey. The vampire nodded as it was revealed this woman was alone, and Solara couldn’t help but glance at her wrists, though she couldn’t detect anything legible. Some people hid their marks, the names on their wrists and it wasn’t any of Solara’s business. “No I just came by to get a drink after a busy week.”
She leaned closer, unable to tell why this woman was so intriguing. Her blood smelled sweet and fresh, yes, but that wasn’t all. Solara was locked onto her heartbeat, the tiny thrumming from this woman’s chest. It was melodic, almost poetic, and she had never heart a sweeter sound. “I’m Solara, by the way,” she said, angling herself so she was facing the brunette woman, so she could take in all her essence and energy. It was filling Solara up, creating a light, glow in her chest. “To who do I owe the pleasure?”

Hayley’s hand clutched around the freshly poured glass of whiskey as she thanked the bartender. Usually, she’d be the one behind the bar on a Friday night, but Josh had asked her kindly if she could take some days off so they could spend the weekend together. Little did she know he’d leave her behind to hang out with this cute blonde he’d met at work, leaving her behind with a bunch of free time she did not know how to fill up.
She did not know how she got here; alone and drinking away intrusive thoughts about her life. She had no friends and no contact with her family, other than with her sister, who was a trauma surgeon working in a hospital across state. She was socially isolated and she’d let that happen; how and why she did not quite understand. It wasn’t like ‘Josh’ was written across her wrist; he wasn’t her soulmate, nor would he ever be, but she did love him nonetheless.

Nicole sighed as Waverly pulled her closer. The contact was doing wonders for her temperature, though her teeth still chattered like mad. Dad? Waverly’s father… what did he have to do with this? And what did Waverly know about Black Badge? Warm. That was something Nicole could focus on, especially as she sunk deeper into Waverly’s arms,leaning heavily against the shorter woman. “You always make me feel safe,” she murmured, cold lips moving against the hot, smooth skin of Waverly’s neck. God she was so warm. Nicole’s eyes slipped close, the frigid air sucking out all of her energy. Nicole locked her knees. She was so exhausted and so fucking cold. “It’s s-so c-c-old…” She couldn’t feel her toes or her finger tips. That’s what she got for wandering out in sub-zero temperatures with wind chilld. She was starting to shake harder, muscles contracting and spasming uncontrollably. She didn’t know how much longer she could do this.
the feeling of nicole’s warm breath on the side of her neck──the soft brush of her cold lips as she spoke , sent shivers down waverly’s spine. under any other circumstance , she would have been elated by their close proximity , but in the redhead’s current condition ? she just wanted to make sure that nicole was alright. thankfully , she could hear her father’s old pickup truck roaring in the distance , bound straight for their co-ordinates.
“ i know, ” she cooed , pulling away to get a proper look at the vehicle on the horizon. “ but look ! he’s almost here. ” pulling nicole’s jacket tighter , she looped an arm around the taller woman’s torso to help hold her steady while taking an experimental step forward. “ come on , let’s get moving. ”
by the time they’d managed just a few short steps , her father was already parked at the edge of the forrest and jumping out of the car to rush to their aid. waverly wasn’t sure how much trouble she would be in for interfering with nicole’s fate , but she was more than willing to deal with the consequences. nicole didn’t deserve to die alone out in the cold , especially not at the hands of a demon. she was much too pure for that.
Nicole, strangely enough, had never felt so safe. Waverly’s grip was strong, she was clearly capable of holding a generous amount of her weight up. Her father? She must have been dreaming, that was the only option. Unless she was hallucinating from the cold, but that was unlikely. Or so she thought. Finally, a truck screeched to a stop and a man ran out of it. It was Julian, the fire fighter. Not Waverly’s father, surely. Nicole was overwhelmed, her chattering teeth starting to dig into the skin of her lip. “He’s...t-too young to b-be y-y-your dad...” The wind was picking up, enhancing the chill that was already taking over Nicole’s body, lowering her temperature yet again. Everything was so cold, it even hurt to breath. Nicole stumbled, gravity dragging her down with such drastic force she winced, anticipating a broken nose.
Everything was a blur. She was moved to a car, not much warmer than the outside. Pushed into the back and wrapped in old, scratchy blankets, Waverly Earp still right by her side. “Waverl-ly...” she groaned, reaching for her girlfriend. Everything hurt, everything stung. “It hurts...” She tensed, muscles still shaking violently as her body tried to keep itself warm.
