If I was in encanto I would want to be a husband. Unproblematic, himbo, thriving, supporting my super powered wife.
I want it all. The career. The love. The life.
DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THAT HIS FAMILY CONSISTS OF ANOTHER GUY + THEIR CHILDREN

EMILY BLUNT as EMILY CHARLTON The Devil Wears Prada 2006, dir. David Frankel
that alternating feeling of wanting to vomit yourself up and sucking in your whole body into the cavity of your chest. just me? hmm
"why do you like seventeen?"
bc they have what i want. they have things that i used to have the potential to get but now i don't:
they work in the entertainment industry, something I have been wanting since i was 12. i believe itās the only industry where my short attention span function and my productivity hours acceptable.Ā
they produce their projects, they are so hands-own with each song, album, photobook, web series that they have that might as well be part of the production team. again, they work in the entertainment industry.
they are on top of their game. i used to be one those kids who are often part of the honor roll, part of the class officers, always volunteers, you know the type? well, not anymore. aĀ āburned-out gifted kid,ā as they say.
they have a massive range of skillset. won is an editor and a videographer, gyu can cook, clean, take photos, paint, etc etc, shua creates bracelets and do pottery, seungkwan is a sports and entertainment god, hoshi and dino choreograph dance masterpieces, donāt get me started with dkās vocal range, then thereās jeonghan who can psych his way through life, jun our mukbang/content creator extraordinaire, cheol is a dog whisperer, woozi can create music out of a frog croak, hao can summon the deities of the ancient world, and who knows, maybe vernon can hack blockchain systems.
they have a huge friend group that they have a special bond with. i used to have one of those....... moving on.
they have so much passion for something they really want to do.
they have something they really want to do. and they are amazing at it.
they were able to keep their jobs for at least 6 years.
they have stable income and can provide for their respective families.
they have the willpower, a reason to live.
they become someoneās reason to live.
they are loved. and they are kind and generous enough to love back.
and this is why i like seventeen. because they have what i want.Ā
even when life seems to be scheming against me, i get to live vicariously through these 13 men listening to their music, watching their content. in this pastel-colored caratland, i can have everything that i want.
itās been DAYS and i am still looking for that tumblr thread where they list all the website where we can stream and download movies and series for free like i just want to cheat the system with all of you is that too much to ask
Places where reality is a bit altered:
⢠any target ⢠churches in texas ⢠abandoned 7/11ās ⢠your bedroom at 5 am ⢠hospitals at midnight ⢠warehouses that smell like dust ⢠lighthouses with lights that donāt work anymore ⢠empty parking lots ⢠ponds and lakes in suburban neighborhoods ⢠rooftops in the early morning ⢠inside a dark cabinet
playgrounds at night
rest stops on highways
deep in the mountains
early in the morning wherever itās just snowed
trails by the highway just out of earshot of traffic
schools during breaks
those little beaches right next to ferry docks
bowling alleys
unfamiliar mcdonalds on long roadtrips
your friends living room once everybody but you is asleep
laundromats at midnight
what the fuck
galeries in art museums that are empty except for youĀ
the lighting section of home depot
stairwells
ā¢hospital waiting rooms ā¢airports from midnight to 7am ⢠bathrooms in small concert venues
I just got the weirdest feeling I swear
OK LISTEN THERE ARE REASONS FOR THIS!!!
A lot of these places are called liminal spaces - which means they are throughways from one space to the next. Places like rest stops, stairwells, trains, parking lots, waiting rooms, airports feel weird when youāre in them because their existence is not about themselves, but the things before and after them. They have no definitive place outside of their relationship to the spaces you are coming from and going to. Reality feels altered here because weāre not really supposed to be in them for a long time for think about them as their own entities, and when we do they seem odd and out of place.
The other spaces feel weird because our brains are hard-wired for context - we like things to belong to a certain place and time and when we experience those things outside of the context our brains have developed for them, our brains are like NOPE SHIT THIS ISNāT RIGHT GET OUT ABORT ABORT. Schools not in session, empty museums, being awake when other people are asleep - all these things and spaces feel weird because our brain is likeĀ āI already have a context for this space and this is not it so it must be dangerous.ā Our rational understanding can sometimes override that immediateĀ ādangerā impulse but weāre still left with a feeling of wariness and unease.Ā
Listen I am very passionate about liminal spaces they are fascinating stuff or perhaps I am merely a nerd.Ā
This is why I work third shift.
In some Irish mythos these are also called āthin placesā ā places where one world seems to meet another. You also get these places in your life sometimes, often in transitional periods (after a move or just before a divorce or change from school to the working world or even just when construction has changed your automated-donāt-even-think-about-it driving path home). It can also happen in other times, like after a tragedy ā basically any time you become hyper aware, almost able to step outside your own life. Both the literal and the figurative thin places can be some of the best settings to seek out and write about because they are uncomfortable and make you think in ways you and the reader normally donāt or even, perhaps, canāt. Itās a reason we cling to death and love and betrayal as settings for our stories, but as you can see, there are infinite liminal spaces to choose from in order to jolt a character into a new or different awareness.
