Can someone explain to me how abortion is not protected by the 2nd amendment giving the right to bear arms that “shall not be infringed”

If someone trespasses into my home I can shoot them as an act of self defense. I can shoot to kill when my home is invaded. My home that I bought from the person who lived there before me, my home that I may sell again in the future. My home that was built on land stolen from the people who lived here first. But my body - the only body that will ever be my own, cannot be protected.

Trespassers are viable outside of the home they have entered. Trespassers are much older than 6-42 weeks after their own conception. Trespassers were once babies and have the potential to create more babies. Trespassers have the ability to vocalize their own bodily autonomy and most likely would not consent to being murdered.

Most gun owners hope they will never have to use it. But they feel much safer and much more comfortable knowing that it is there in see something happens. How is abortion any different?

Anti-abortion conservatives are out here throwing fits over inclusive language to describe those who can become pregnant. “Birthing people” and “people who may become pregnant” are the people directly impacted by Roe v Wade. Cis women are pretending their transphobia is about “womanhood” - they’re mad that this language calls attention to the fact that many of them are not affected by the outcomes of these law changes.

Not all “women” are all impacted by this directly because of things like aging/menopause and hysterectomies. This of course does not invalidate their gender identity - clearly “womanhood” is about more than just reproductive organs. But when a female politician wants to claim her biological sex entitles her to interfere with other peoples’ rights and autonomy I find myself asking

Is this politician still capable of reproducing? Does she still have reason to be concerned about how an unplanned pregnancy might impact her own life or career? Is she going to disclose any information about how she may personally be affected by the outcomes of these laws? Probably not. Almost as if she values the right to privacy.

Here's the thing, guys.

It doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter when life begins.

It doesn't matter whether a fetus is a human being or not.

That entire argument is a red herring, a distraction, a subjective and unwinnable argument that could not matter less.

It doesn't matter whether we're talking about a fertilized egg, or a fetus, or a baby, or a five year old, or a Nobel Prize winning paediatric oncologist.

NOBODY has the right to use your body, against your will, even to save their life, or the life of another person.

That's it.

That's the argument.

You cannot be forced to donate blood, or marrow, or organs, even though thousands die every year, on waiting lists.

They cannot even harvest your organs after your death without your explicit, written, pre-mortem permission.

Denying women the right to abortion means we have less bodily autonomy than a corpse.

An argument that I haven’t seen people mention much is that next of kin are often the people who make decisions for things like life support, DNR orders, and consent for post-mortem exams/handling remains. If someone has no will and cannot directly express autonomy, their next of kin and/or medical providers make those decisions. Not the state.

Anti-abortion arguments that focus on the point at which “life” begins are irrelevant.

I was 11 when I had my first period. Between 5th and 6th grade.

I was in 3rd grade when my mom bought me a training bra, and by 6th grade I was a D cup.

I was in 1st grade when the D.A.R.E. Program started coming to our class and teaching us about street drugs, and how to huff household cleaning products. Also how to call the cops if we saw a family member doing drugs.

When I had my first period, like many afab, I had no idea what was happening and hid it because I was scared and thought I was dying. I didn’t know what a period was, but I knew what cocaine and heroine looked like, and I knew you could get high from huffing nail polish.

The point is, what people consider appropriate and inappropriate to talk to children about is insane. Why are people like “I don’t want the public school system or kids movies talking to my kid about puberty, but a cop can come and tell my 1st grader about meth, that’s fine.”

This is such a good point ! We had to watch videos about people with medical conditions and voice boxes as a result of smoking cigarettes around 4th or 5th grade. I went to Catholic school where they were happy to inform us that abortion was like the most horrible form of murder around the same time. But puberty? Periods??? We were lucky if we got to read the American Girl book at home
