"Well I can’t guarantee that your life will be great in any aspect, but I sure as well will give it the best I got. Our home life here isn’t too bad and hopefully I’m not either, so." Scratching her arm absentmindedly, Brinley nodded thinking about the times that they had spent up watching the stars when they were younger. It seemed like such a long time ago and then again not at all. "If anything, we’d go up there and talk about when we’d work." She thought about his little sister Lucy and could picture her and the other kids playing while the rest of them worked. "Well if you do, try to get a shift when I’m patrolling. Sure makes it a lot more interesting and I’d rather you than a foreigner working with me." At his suggestion that people were stealing, her head automatically tilted to the side and her stance became stronger as she shuffled her feet. "You think people are stealing? Well, if you need me to, I’m not above figuring it out by doing some snooping on my own. — If it’s those foreigners, I swear…butyeah, count me as an extra pair of eyes.”

"Fine, I thought you could give me some sense of false hope. Though, knowing you, I was almost positive that was a long shot. No, you and this place are pretty good. Hey, don't take it that way. You're great." He said with a weak smile. "I think that we were equivalent to tiny workaholics. If anyone needed anything.. We were there offering help." He recalled the times they'd offered to help in the infirmary, that wasn't Matteo's favourite task to carry out, but he knew it had to be done, one way or another. "Yeah, I'll try. You always make rounds less tedious. I don't know... I don't really trust them to guard but, Adrian said to train them... So that's what I did." Squaring his jaw, he rolled his eyes, irritation brimming inside of him. "No, not people. Person. I'm sure it's only one. They aren't taking enough to do any damage, but, my assumption is that they didn't think anyone would notice. Hey, don't go Nancy Drew or anything. I just want you to stay observant. No need to make this more of an issue then it already is. Thank you... And if you do figure out who it is, tell me before you confront them."

"Don’t you dare speak to me as if you know my job better than I do. I know what I’m supposed to do and when I’m supposed to do it. You, however, do not. You have no right to speak as if you know the position, whatsoever. So, if I were you.. I’d shut the hell up about it." Seana arched a brow as her jaw clenched. She wasn’t exactly losing her cool, but she was definitely allowing someone to get under her skin. Maybe it was her thought of being a failure, and that was something that triggered her anger, and now.. she was coming to think Matteo was subtly calling her one. "As for thinking I’m "oh-so" important. I am. Honesty isn’t always the best for everyone, so.. if you have something against what Adrian has been doing, you can take that up with him. Again, not with me, for I don’t make the rules, I try my best to either help or change his mind but of course, I have no control over what he decides to do at the end of the day." As he continued to speak, Seana simply scoffed along with rolling her eyes as she ran her fingers through her hair before speaking once again. "Let’s not forget, I was one of those trainees before, and I’ve come to be a higher position than most. If they can’t take the heat of training, then they don’t need to be in the process of becoming a guard." Raising a brow, Seana took a deep inaudible breath before she realized she was becoming too hot and of course, red in the face. Calming down, she narrowed her eyes at Matteo once before opening her mouth to speak. "Again, don’t you dare speak on my job. That, is something I won’t tolerate and just makes me believe you’re out to get me, when in all I could do afterwards, is strip you from your status, which I know you wouldn’t like. So, if that’s all you’ve got to say, I’d say it’d be a good time for you to get back to your post, Matteo."

Matteo cleared his throat as a few foreigners passed by, their stares were that of curiosity and concern. Looking at her again he sighed, they shouldn't be arguing like this, how were they to keep things in order if they couldn't speak to each other without threatening one another. "Seana, while I'd love to keep having this discussion, I have to say that this probably isn't for the best." Pinching at the bridge of his nose firmly he groaned. "Listen!" Rubbing at his neck roughly he took a deep breath. "I'm not the enemy. Okay? No matter how it may seem right now, I'm not. And you are well aware of that. If you'd like to continue arguing I'll have to say that, admittedly we can't. Not that you aren't completely wrong if half of the things you've said. As well as the fact that you've threatened my position multiple times, I'm going to decide to be the bigger person." Nodding over towards the direction the foreigners had gone he frowned. "I don't care about the personal shit, we can't act like that in front of them. I get that you and I aren't on the best terms but, we have to set that aside for everyone. Right, or wrong? Hm?" Crossing his arms firmly he raised his brows. They both knew that he was right, now he just wanted her to admit it.

"I think I just hurt my foot.. jeez." he mumbled. Looking down at his foot before limping over to the person next to him. "Hey can you help me finish this please?"

"What’d you do to it? If it’s really bad I’m taking you to the infirmary.” Slipping an arm around the other man Matteo sighed. “What did you need help with?"

Tilting her head slightly, Seana clenched her jaw as she listened to Matteo speak. Her hands quickly formed into fists as she raised a brow before speaking. “If you really did know how the chain of command worked you would know that I have authority. But, I don’t have the power to do much about it. Like the food situation, the only thing I could possibly do is bring it to Adrian, try to change him mind and decision on what’s being done, but of course.. he won’t always do something that none of you will agree with. He’s doing what he can.” Seana took a step forward as a clear look of aggravation was running over her face. “Don’t tell me what I’m supposed to do or how I’m supposed to do things. I have better things to do that isn’t meant for your ears, so how about you bring yourself back to your post and get back to training those wannabe guards that are lining up every day or I’m sure I could find someone that would more than glad to take your position of leadership in a second.” She was a bit more than overly pissed off at this point. Her voice was growing with almost-like hatred. “Another thing, Matteo. Never threaten my doing or authority. I’ll make sure to bring that up to Adrian along with your question of his doings.”

Observing her hands and how they’d clenched, the corners upturned into a slight smirk. He felt a slight sense of pride since he’d shattered her cool and calm demeanour, and she was showing her feelings externally. “I know that Adrian is at the top, and I know that you could do more then you actually do. All you have to do is fucking talk to him, you’re supposed to help when he can’t. That’s what I know, Seana. Thank you. Thank you for stating the obvious, and telling me things that I already know. If you can recall I just said that I came to you, so that you could talk to him. That’s all that I asked of you. I didn’t ask you to do something difficult.” Rubbing at his neck softly he looked down at her azure hues searching hers intently. “I’m just stating fact. You can’t keep me from doing that. I think that you think that you’re oh so important. Which, honestly yes, you are. I’ll give you that. But, if there are things that I don’t know about, which I highly doubt. Then I’d have to take that up with Adrian because we can’t be a stable community if secrets are being kept. Training is over for the day, or at least they’re on break. Tired trainees are useless trainees. If you could find a native who could do my job as well as I can, I will step down on my own accord. But, you won’t. And you know that you couldn’t find someone better suited. So you can leave that threat on the doorstep, okay?” Watching her Matteo could’ve bursted into laughter. Tilting his head he smiled down at her. “Of course. Apologies. I wouldn’t want you to go to Adrian about my position. If I were to be reprimanded I don’t know what I’d do with myself. Seana, you’re looking a little… Red in the face.” He spoke innocently, a laugh interlaced with his words.

This whole thing is a competition though. It’s us versus them. We’re fighting for our survival. It may not be as prevalent, since we’re hidden away, but they’re definitely still out there. Okay, yes, we don’t have much time, but I think us getting along is so instrumental. We can’t just keep on disagreeing and having this animosity towards each other when there is a much larger problem to worry about. That’s a lot easier for you to say, since you all have the upper hand. I get that most of your people are angry that we’re here, but we need to survive too. I feel like neither of us are going to be happy unless we set aside our differences and respect each other.

”Yes, they are out there. As near or as far as they may seem. It's up to us to sustain this community, while acknowledging them we can't let them deter us from going on. I'm not sure if us getting along is even a possibility. Knowing what I do, I'd say that us natives, or well most of us would rather go back to the way things were before you arrived. But, you're here now and that means we have to deal with it, because we're still human. As much as we'd hate to admit it, we would feel something and anything if we were to kick you out. And that's coming from me, of all people. Yeah, we do. That's just the way things are and you're people just have to deal with it for the time being. We know that. Why do you think we let you stay? You can respect someone without liking them. But, respect is earned, not given."

Noticing his sudden steps forward, Seana kept her stance as she stood straight. Her eyes narrowing as he continued to speak. “I can pull whatever type of crap I want on anyone. You don’t hold any type of authority over me, Matteo. I’m sure if you knew how things worked around here, you would have brought yourself to Adrian’s door and not mine. So, I won’t apologize for treating you and speaking to you like an idiot, since you surely act like one.” She knew she was a bit harsh, but for some reason.. Seana was just over the top today. Maybe it had to be the irritation of the foreigners, or maybe something else. “You should have waited until after lunch to come asking for understanding. By all means, go to Adrian then. I have better things to do, as I implied earlier.”

"It's bull Seana, and you know it. It's a fucking facade, so just drop it. I realise that. Right, I know the chain of command." Letting out a disgruntled laugh he nodded. "You know what's hilarious? How you walk around, as if you can do something, and then you tell me that you can't. Which one is it? Huh? Do you or do you not have authority? If you can't sufficiently do your job, maybe I should talk to Adrian, about that? I don't think that'd be in your best interest." He spat. Maybe threatening her authority wasn't the smartest decision but, Matteo wasn't really thinking his brain. He was thinking with his emotions and that usually led him to saying stupid things. "If you're to be a good leader then it shouldn't matter whether I came to you now, after lunch, or in the middle of the fucking night. You're supposed to be the same whether you've eaten or not. Whether you had a restful night, or not. Oh better things. Like what, grabbing some lunch?" He scoffed narrowing his eyes at her.

At his comment, Brinley let out a laugh as she straightened her shoulders. “I’ll take that as a compliment.” She shook her head at him as he continued to talk, and she crossed her arms while walking towards him. “Well know you’ve figured it out so the rest of your life should be pretty great.” Her fingers drummed lightly on her arms as she nodded her head while he talked. “The stars always seem to be a place people go off to sneak away to. Kids and foreigners, included. Let Lucy have her fun. I’m sure when we were her age we went up there plenty of times. Just make sure they get back to their work soon.” With a sigh, she nodded before letting her arms fall to her side as she rolled her head to stretch her neck. “Yeah, just gonna stop by to make sure everything’s going okay. Finished my guard duties early this morning and I don’t have another shift until later tonight, so I figured I’d do something.”

"I'd like to think that, I really would. Perhaps, my life pertaining to you will be great? Can you guarantee that?" Biting at his nail he shrugged again, shoulders as tense as always. "Yeah, it's nice there. Quiet, and then loud and then quiet again. If I can recall we went there many times. Though, never in place of work. I guess we were pretty mature in that respect. I'll go and check up on them in a little while. I'm sure they're just playing tag or something. She's always going on about how much more fun it is beneath the stars." Exhaling heavily he scratched at his chin. "I may take an extra shift tonight. I'm not sure yet. But, I've been noticing stuffs been going missing recently. Nothing too bad but, I don't want it to get out of hand. That'd be the last thing we need. I'm pretty sure it's a kid or a foreigner. Either way, I'm going to find out who it is, and they will be reprimanded." Nodding at her he rubbed at his neck. "Would you keep an eye out? If there's anything out of the ordinary, just let me know."

"I would have slept well if people were running around the caves playing hide and go seek all night, sue me." She said before raising a brow as she continued to listen to him speak. It had nothing to do with Seana. Sure, she took orders from Adrian about what needed to be done around the caves since the foreigners had showed up, but even she had no control over it. Crossing her arms, she looked at Matteo with a blank stare. Almost as if she had no interest or even cared for what he had to say. "I have nothing to do with that Matteo. You know this. You can bring issues to me, but that doesn’t mean I can get any of it pushed into a different way. I have no power over what happens like Adrian does, so.. don’t come to me saying it’s me who’s taking anything from your family when it’s not." Unraveling her arms, she leaned against the side of her door before speaking again. "Bring it to Adrian next time, instead of bothering me. Especially over a matter that I can’t do much for."

Letting out a small sound of disappointment he ran a hand through his hair. "He had an idea of who had been running around giggling all night but, decided to keep that to himself. "Do not give me that look." He muttered slight irritation in his voice."You can pull that crap on other people but, it doesn't work on me and you now that." Stepping closer he shook his head with a weak laugh."Then apologies for bringing it up to you. You act as if I don't know how things work. I'm well aware as to how all of this goes, so don't treat me like I'm an idiot. Okay?" Sapphire eyes studying her features harshly, he moved ever closer. ""I came to you asking for understanding. I didn't speak to you in a way that conveyed desperation or anger." Grinding his teeth together he shook his head again, irritation bubbling through his veins. "I'm sorry for bothering you. I will do that. Thank you."

Watching as the foreigner scurried away, Brinley turned her head to find Matteo walking towards her with a smile on his face. “Me, being harsh?” She asked, with a smirk on her lips as she placed a hand on her hip. “They couldn’t handle me. That takes a very special kind of person. You should know this.” With a pause, she looked around before facing him again. “See anything interesting on your patrols yet?”

"I've seen how harsh you can be on multiple occasions. I must admit, it's nothing shy of unsettling."  Biting at his lower lip mindlessly he shrugged. "Ah, I see. I'm well aware, thank you very much. It only took me most of my life to figure that out."  Letting out a slight scoff, Matteo shook his head. "No, nothing interesting. Everything is as it usually is. Though, I did see a small group of kids heading towards the  towards the stars. Lucy included.. I'm not sure if they have work to do, so I let them be." Matteo was sure that they had something productive that they could be doing but, he'd let it slide this once. "Were you heading to the fields?"

"What do you want?" She simply asked. "I’ve got better things to do rather to.. waste my time speaking to you about something that might not even interest me or benefit any of us whatsoever, so.. spit it out."

"In a bad mood already. Someone must not have slept well last night." Running his tongue along his teeth he smirked. "But, all joking aside I was curious as to why rations were cut again? I realise that my families well being isn't necessarily the most important matter in the caves. But, fair is fair." He knew that having five siblings would mean that they'd be able to consume a lot but, he thought this ration cut was highly unnecessary. "You can take food from me, but I ask that you don't take anymore from them. They're just kids Seana... Plus, they can't work if they don't have energy." Matteo was well aware that things would be tight for the time being, since so many new people had arrived, but it still unsettled him. "I just wanted to bring that to your attention and ask that you think about what I said. That's all."

"Look, that’s a really great idea and all but time is of the essence here. The sun should be in the right place for harvesting now." Brinley continued to walk, her steps quick although her body ached from another sleepless night due to her shift as a guard. "You’re welcome to come check up on the fields with me, but if you don’t know what you’re doing then just watch and keep your hands to yourself."

As Matteo made his rounds once more, as he did every day he paused. Spotting Brinley, and a foreigner who seemed to be rushing away rather quickly. Walking up to her, hands deep in his pockets he raised a brow. Azure hues surveying her for a moment he smiled. “Were you being a little harsh?” He quipped watching the foreigner finally scurry around the corner. “Or could they just not handle you?"

Fine, you’ve got a point. The thing is, if you only focus on the good, then how can you improve? It’s like not being able to gain critique, or ways to get better. I know focusing on the positive is great, but there is always a way something can upgrade, and personally, I always like to be the best. Something can be done especially about the two groups around here, like I don’t know some sort of unity day or trust exercises or anything. Sure, things are good or okay around here, but I know people are getting screwed over because of the situation. Fine, I’m sure you’re a great person and all, so I’m sorry, alright? To be honest, I’m a little on edge right now. I just want everything to be okay.

"Okay, I’ll give you that one. If you don’t acknowledge the bad then you can’t learn from it, or better yourself. Right. Okay. I see what you mean by that, but for now there’s not really any competition. When you’re the only ones left or correction when it seems as if you’re the only ones left then, you focus on what’s sustainable. I’d like to see our um, groups get along better but, that’ll take time. Time we don’t really have. We’ll have to make do until we can figure things out fully. How so? I never said I was a great person, but thank you. Sorry? Okay, apology acknowledged. Things will be fine, it’ll take a while but, I can assure you that this will work out. If things don’t take a turn for the better then I suppose we’ll have to take measures to improve things."
