Who I am or who I was is not important. I am simply writing this in case anyone comes across it after I am gone. I awoke in a strange pod in the fires of hell. A mindflayer put a parasite in my head. Therefore, it is naturally understandable that I will die soon. May none be the wiser, for it is foolishness to put myself with others... Or so I thought.
For reasons completely unknown to me, I was drawn to a dying man who became an intellect devourer. I could have maimed him... it... It wants to be called Us. May the gods forgive me; once it was in my hands, I could not hurt it... not because of some psionic compulsion... it was simple, human pity. The intellect devourer did not want to leave my side and instructed me to get to the helm of the ship.
So naturally, I got to the helm of the ship, steered us away from the hells, and definitely saved the day... I wish I could say that. Unfortunately, a githyanki tried to kill me. I did not know what to think of one from the Astral Plane on a mindflayer ship, but thankfully, she did not try to instantly kill me... though, that was the fault of the tadpole. A bit suspicious, if you ask me. I don't understand what is happening with these parasites, but they have some mental powers that are beyond my comprehension.
The githyanki woman helped me and Us deal with some cambions, possible cultists, and... and we freed a half-elf woman who could not escape her pod. The pod would not open under my tadpole — I think it is the tadpole's doing. Psionic forces and whatnot... Shadowheart had some interesting artifact... a strange, curious thing with 20 sides. I didn't ask about it, but maybe I should have.
I wish it had been as easy as just waltzing up to the helm and saving the day — but there was this horrific sight! Mindflayers dying, cambions fighting... it was... wild. And thus began a terrible fight where the githyanki woman almost died! It was all awful and horrible, and I don't know how we survived. Someone got to the ship eventually... I remember falling from the ship as it crashed — we weren't in Avernus any more... I think the hell we were in was Avernus...
I probably should have died from the impact, but clearly, I have not because I am writing this. I do not know how I have survived. The fall should have killed me... certainly... Ah, well. I am marked for death anyway. There is no point to this flimsy, transparent thread that weaves my life.
