soloSicily reviews: A trip around Syracuse, Noto, Ragusa Ibla
Sicily travel tips: the triumph of Sicilian baroque style
If you want to visit one of the most beautiful coasts in all of Italy, do not miss the Plemmirio nature reserve. The headquarters of the nature reserve http://www.plemmirio.it/ are right on the coast and getting there is very easy. Their website gives details of all the major dive sites for scuba diving and info on individual and group tours.
There are also places specifically reserved for fishing. Maddalena Peninsula offers the adventurer as well as the scholar many surprises full of nature and beautiful backdrops. This stretch of coast is on the eastern part of the Maddalena peninsula, just south of the city of Syracuse between Punta Castelluccio and Capo Murro di Porco. It is a very special part of the island where you can find incredible flora and fauna, rich marine ecosystems and archaeological discoveries from various eras and civilizations.
Throughout its history, Syracuse has been an important destination for Mediterranean trade. The port was an important place inside historical trade channels. Many artefacts and findings have been recovered and today can be visited in the museum of Paolo Orsi in Syracuse.
In this area we actually discovered a villa with a pool right in front of the sea, an amazing view! Not'art House (the villa's name) was perfect for couples and small groups. It was the ideal place for relaxing, just minutes from down town Syracuse. It was also perfect for day trips to visit the magical Baroque towns of Noto and Ragusa Ibla.
The villa was right next to a beach with white sand and clear waters, ideal for people like us who wanted to relax and enjoy one of the most beautiful seas in Italy. Also, not too far away, we found the Vendicari nature reserve, which is a whole world to discover.
We found that throughout this area of Sicily, buses and taxis are very affordable. The local cuisine is full of fresh fish and one of the most typical dishes is the swordfish “a la stimpiràta”, fried and seasoned with olives and capers, vinegar and onion. We recommend, in the centre of Syracuse, the restaurant Daphne on via Elorina, # 97.
Syracuse is just a perfect place! Every corner you turn, you will find little places to visit, workshops of papyrus, puppeteers and much more.
It is not a coincidence that visitors to Sicily are attracted by the unforgettable beauty of the area around Erice. This territory is characterized by a gorgeous bay between Capo San Vito and Punta Solanto.

Between all the amazing things to do in Sicily in May, of course we have to make time for some Sicilian wine. Sicily is home to native grape types, such as Nero d'Avola and Catarrato that make fabulous wine. Also Gillo, Inzolia and Nerello are fabulous...

Easter & Spring holidays in Sicily Villas
For an authentic Sicilian experience
Easter in Enna: Some of the island’s most important Easter celebrations are reminiscent of the religious rites and ceremonies that date back to Spanish domination during the 15th to 17th centuries. At Enna, in the very heart of Sicily, you can watch thousands marching in silent processions during Holy Week, dressed in white hooded robes and bearing marble statues. The Poet’s Corner at Enna, set amidst the golden yellow hills of the Sicilian countryside and close to Lake Pergusa, is a great choice for larger groups (sleeps 11) looking for an authentic Sicilian experience. A week at the villa starts at £4195 in April, including a 10% Spring and Easter discount (16 March – 27 April), with www.soloSicily.com, tel. 020 7097 1413. Easyjet flights to Catania from around £200 per person return. soloSicily offers rental villas throughout inland and coastal Sicily. For further information, visit www.soloSicily.com, tel. 020 7097 1413.

soloSicily reviews: Zingaro Nature Reserve & Casa Blu
soloSicily reviews from a happy customer: a joyful summer painted blue.
With a good pair of walking shoes, at least three litres of water and lots of sunscreen you are prepared to discover the delights of the Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve. As you embark on your journey, small unpaved paths lead your car to the entrance of the nature reserve that extends into the peninsula of San Vito lo Capo and faces the blue Tyrrhenian Sea between the cities Castellammare del Golfo and Trapani. In the nature reserve you will delightfully encounter a corner of paradise waiting to be experienced by all 5 of your senses. The reserve is quite windy, windy enough to blow the cap off your head, but the breeze is a welcome companion during the summer months. As you make your way through the reserve from the parking area, you will follow a footpath to the Farming Museum where the complete grain cycle is represented. As you continue down the path you can also visit the Naturalist Museum and the Environmental Education Centre. As you continue your journey through the reserve, it is not important if you take the wrong path, you have the sun as your guide to lead you to the “Stone Forest,” in the direction of Scopello. On your way, let yourself indulge in a swim in the crystal clear water where the sky and sea unite in harmony and the perfumes of sea and land exhilarate your senses. Continuing up, climbing to the top of the rolling hills you will overlook the small village of Scopello where you can find the remarkable villa Casa Blu, an elegant home available for rent exclusively by www.solosicily.com. This peaceful villa is characterized by antique Sicilian ceramics and a soft white and blue motif, from the dish-ware to the couches. As a couple or as a family, you would be hard-pressed to find a more perfect place to enjoy a Sicilian holiday. If you have the desire for long conversations that last late into the night or to enjoy an afternoon of barbecuing and music, you will find Casa Blu's wonderful garden, in the presence of a century-old carob tree overlooking the shining sea, to be the perfect setting. On Casa Blu's patio, you will find a small pool (6 x 8 meters) with a breathtaking view, take a look for yourself: http://www.solosicily.com/villas-in-sicily/sc144_casa-blu.aspx And your adventure has only begun! Tomorrow Scopello's tuna fishery, Guidaloca beach, the fishing villages of Marsala and Mazzara and the medieval hill top village of Erice are all waiting for you. And the day after that, you still have the Aegadian Islands, the island of Mozia and of course the cities of Trapani and Palermo to visit before returning to your peacful home surrounded by blue, Casa Blue.
