Zack Fair is an interesting character (and a deeply relatable one for me) because he holds both spunky zest AND bitter disillusionment.

There are noticeable changes in his personality after Wutai and then more so after Modeoheim, but even as he gets progressively saltier towards the institution he's working within and the expectations he has to carry, he never loses his energy and confidence! He never becomes a brooding sadboy who would rather sit on his ass than help the people around him even though he has every reason to. The focus of his high energy just... narrows. It starts coming out as sassiness at times rather than the wide-eyed exuberance he starts out with.

It really is interesting to reflect on my love for a more puppy-oriented Zack when I was around 15/16 (his age at the beginning of CC) and how that preference just progressively shifted to a much more jaded depiction of the fella as I myself aged from around 16-18 (the ages in which Zack shed a lot of his jubilance and became disillusioned with ShinRa’s corruption). Like, my taste has pretty much done a 180 in terms of craving Zacks that are fatigued, unknowingly depressed, or just downright angry at his past self and naïvete. And that’s just a pretty neat evolution.

I'm sorry but...sephiroth is so horrendously down bad for Genesis in a way that he can be a little um...pervy

But the thing is, Genesis is into it.

Seph could never be that way towards Angeal or he'd get scruffed...

Sephiroth standing around Genesis having intense intrusive thoughts. He's just standing there watching Genesis filing his nails, thinking about how he'd like to jump Genesis six ways from Sunday and drag him into the nearest broom closet.

And then he gets extremely flustered and frustrated with himself, becoming visibly angry that he's got sexual urges like everyone else contrary to the image Hojo and Shinra cultivates. And homoerotic urges at that. Scandalous!

Genesis opens his mouth to ask Sephiroth if it looks cloudy outside and Sephiroth punches a three-layer hole in the wall and storms out. Genesis stands there gawking, wondering if it was something he said.

....Angeal reaches through the hole to ask Genesis if he could hand him that tape dispenser on the desk. He figures if they can find a really big poster, maybe Lazard won't notice this time.

The thought of Sephiroth lying comatose in a guarded medical wing as Zack, just within earshot of all the frantic nurses fighting to keep the surrounding crowd at by, is repeatedly drowned out by all the tumult and has to fight with all his might to reach the guards and insist and that he’s not there to take pictures or “see it for himself” until, at last, he’s permitted into the room and doesn’t leave for several days thereafter (੭ ˊ^ˋ)੭ ♡
