Been a while since I did a proper drawing like this — my art has changed a lot over the course of a few months so pieces like this are a lot harder for me to produce because I’m not quite used to the change yet

this line hurts so much, especially knowing the context of the episode
merlin often puts himself down, he doesn't recognize how amazing he is, he doesn't give himself enough credit and other people never give him credit, never thank him, because barely anyone knows about his magic. people don't know he saves the day every time. he is used to being called an idiot, to be seen as useless. he even starts believing it, he doesn't believe in himself enough
and this episode? his magic is useless against the dorocha. his magic, the only thing about him that he considers important. the thing he bases all his worth on. the thing that let's him protect himself and others, mainly arthur. it's not working. he tried, but his magic was useless against this enemy. merlin felt powerless
he was about to sacrifice himself bc he considered his life to be meaningless against arthur's. thank god lancelot stepped in and took his place (I MEAN i hate lancelot dying, but at the same time i'm glad he protected merlin one last time)
