❝ I... I trusted you. ❞ //poor poor icarus
Stanford Filbrick Pines was a man filled to the brim with unsurpassed knowledge. He was a man led by science, carried by theories and washed away with conclusions — to not acknowledge this fact would be a fault on any creature’s behalf. Hand-in-hand, for one to not recognize his ignorance would prove a mistake; an error. To praise Stanford would mean to knock him down, to knock him down would be to pick him back up again.
Every raise had its fall, such a phrase especially rang true with the stubborn, well-intentioned Pines.
His comment, out of the blue and unnecessarily sentimental, is met with a glare, an eye-to-eye that lasted little longer than a second. Within that second is cruelty, a look of condescension across limited features: Bill knew to what extent that trust reached, and perhaps that worsened his attitude. A breath that granted no life escaped a mouth unseen, sharp and harsh in its delivery.
“SO IT SEEMS, SIXER. DIDN’T YOUR FATHER EVER TEACH YOU ABOUT TRUSTING STRANGERS? NEVERMIND STRANGERS FROM AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT DIMENSION!”
Meek, crushed — Ford sounded as if his heart had been severed in two. Satisfaction is easily found in that voice, in that moment of vulnerability.
“WHILE I APPRECIATE YOUR COOPERATION - SERIOUSLY, NO JOKES HERE! - I GOTTA SAY, THINK YOU WASTED YOUR POTENTIAL. THINK: YOU COULD’VE BEEN SO MUCH MORE THAN YOU ARE NOW. GALAXIES COULD’VE BEEN IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND, CONSTELLATIONS TUGGED ALONG BY YOUR VERY FINGERS. WITH KNOWLEDGE UP TO YOUR EARS, PLANETS AT YOUR DISPOSAL… YOU COULD’VE HAD SOMETHING, STANFORD! IT’S A SHAME YOU GREW A CONSCIENCE. REALLY, BREAKS MY HEART JUST THINKING ABOUT IT.”
❝ SLEEP? Who can do that when there’s a world of knowledge waiting? ❞

I’M AT A LOSS FOR WHO COULD’VE CAUSED THAT ORDEAL AS WELL!

SHEESH, AND I THOUGHT STANFORD HAD HIS SHARE OF TRAUMA.
Wonder whose fault THAT was.

Stanford thought he’d been imagining the details of the old laptop; the wear and tear it portrayed as his great nephew displayed it to him. He had been on the fence, though dismissive - after all, this couldn’t very well be the same device, could it? And so, against his instincts, he’d assisted in Dipper’s venture. Came up with numerous passwords that could crack any modern piece of technology, more than enough for something so primative.
But upon its opening, his eyes had been drawn to its top. A plaque, obscured by dust, had caught his attention, and as Dipper had tended to typing the passwords - with Ford’s occasional words of encouragement - his hand lifted, reached out. The man is expressionless behind the boy’s back as he dusted off a familiar initial, feeling a pit of dread in his stomach. And then his whole world stopped. Memories, possibilities - all ran through his head. Of everything they’d worked for, everything he’d done wrong, the anxiety of the laptop being in such a state. Abandoned.
Why would it be abandoned? What had Ford done?
And his eyes widened at the words from Dipper. It seemed he’d muttered his thoughts aloud, and he tensed, gaze glancing at the notebook in which they’d drawn up the index of passwords...
...and scrambling it up.
Any other curiousity would have been fine. But this one... this one... his own shame aside, if Dipper dug any further, it could put him in danger.
❝ D-ipper, ❞ is that an emotional crack in his voice? ❝ On second thoughts, perhaps we shouldn’t try to divulge the contents of this laptop. ❞
❝ what have i done ? ❞ [FOR DIPPER...]
SCARY - OKE SENTENCE STARTERS.
“ – I’m fairly certain this will be the one! We’ve almost… ”
They were so close, he could feel it! This password stood naught a chance against the two of them working together; the range of words had been narrowed down significantly since Dipper’s research had started, thanks to his great uncle. They were certain to find a solution soon.
Yet…
His uncle’s words, despite them being a mere murmur, a whisper, did not escape Dipper’s notice. The excitement in his brown hues dampened to let forth curiosity–and worry, as the boy paused in typing a word, his hands millimeters away from the laptop’s keys.
“ … Grunkle Ford? ” Dipper inquired, the euphoria in his tone withered slightly, “ Is something wrong? ”
alright time to write this nerd

"No more caffeine for you."
"This is my family. I found it, all on my own."
"Oh, you are such a pain!"
"'Ohana' means 'family'. 'Family' means no one gets left behind. Or forgotten."
"You sure it's a dog?"
"You know, you wreck everything you touch."
"I'm sorry I bit you. And pulled your hair. And punched you in the face."
"YOU! You're the cause of all this!"
"Don't leave me, okay?"
"You're just jealous 'cause I'm pretty!"
"Did you catch fire again?"
"Give us a sign you understand any of this."
"She likes your butt and fancy hair."
"Leave my mother out of this!"
"Does this look infected to you?"
"You are so finished when I get in there!"
"I remember everyone that leaves."
"You can never belong."
"Then why don't you sell me and buy a rabbit instead?"
"Oh good! My dog found the chainsaw!"
"Leave me alone to diiiiie."
"I prefer to be called 'Evil Genius'."
"I need someone to be my friend."
"This is your badness level. It's unusually high for someone your size."
"We're a broken family, aren't we?"
"My friends need to be punished."
