I welcome all criticism to the Mexican animated film “Dia de Muertos” with respect to the colorism in the design of the characters.
I don’t want to put rants in the main tags for that Pixar film, but I don’t find a tag for criticism.
Some recommendations?
I am between “cocowash”,“coco criticism” and “pixar coco criticism”.
With over 100 animated features in development and production across Latin America, the region is setting itself up for an animation renaissance.
If you really are into supporting international animation, please check these animated films been created in Latin American countries!
I am back.
Just to time for ranting about that P*xar film.
While the Mexican animated film “Dia de Muertos” has a lot of characters with light skin tone and welcome all the criticism about Mexican people having a strong colorism, the studio is just a little one, while D*sney is the monopoly behemoth that was in all the power for doing multiple films about the cultures of Latin American countries since some years ago, the company didn’t.
I am tired to wait.
I lived the D*sney Reinassaince and I don’t want the actual young viewers pass for the same dissapoiment that I had in my teen ages.
These young persons deserve BETTER.
Important Reminder:
All of these “artistic freedom” arguments sound just like when people try saying “freedom of speech” to cover up their ignorance. Just because you have the “freedom”, that doesn’t give you a platform to practice racism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, thinphobia, or pedophilia without consequences. Yes, call-out culture is bad. Bullying is absolutely horrible, and a lot of people don’t understand where the limit is, but to rebel against it by producing work in attempts to “battle” bullying isn’t the proper manner, nor is it effective. It’s causing more frustration and it DOESN’T make your art any less wrong. Identity erasure is a serious issue and there’s no wonder why people get incredibly angry when they see a character that FINALLY breaks traditional roles and stereotypes being forced right back into them. You’re not “making a statement”. You’re not even defending the girl who tried to harm herself. You’re missing the entire point. The issue wasn’t with “artistic freedom”, it was with bullying. If you really want to defend and stand up for her, try taking a stand against bullies and mobs made for hate, not perpetuating hate through images that are harmful and offensive.
there was no reason honey lemon couldn’t have been japanese tbh
like.. .……..
brazil has one of the highest populations of diasporic japanese in the world
disney r u ok
Not just Brazil.
A lot of Latin American countries have a story of migration of persons from different countries of Asia and they don’t have enough represented in their own country media
If D-I-S-N-E-Y wanted trying something new, Honey Lemon could be a Latina of Japanese ancestry.
Tbh it annoys me so much when Spaniards are cast to play Latinx… Like if ur not gonna cast an actual Latinx actor to play a Latinx character then u might as well just make the character a Spaniard as well 😒

Africa in the American Imagination: Popular Culture, Racialized Identities, and African Visual Culture by Carol Magee
In the American world, the presence of African culture is sometimes fully embodied and sometimes leaves only a trace. Africa in the American Imagination: Popular Culture, Racialized Identities, and African Visual Culture explores this presence, examining Mattel’s world of Barbie, the 1996 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, and Disney World, each of which repackages African visual culture for consumers. Because these cultural icons permeate American life, they represent the broader U.S. culture and its relationship to African culture.

Have you watched "Rantasmo: Frozen Needs More Gay" video? I like how in it is explained that "Let It GO" scene is just catharsis and it is not that empowering everybody keeps to say.
No, I haven’t! Link please?

Apropiación cultural [x]
Really great news! This is solely because people not only talked about it but addressed these issues by tweeting and commenting. The team has allegedly changed their theme to the Wild West - let’s hope they don’t make the same mistake twice. Very grateful to musicians like Deadmau5!
This girl needs a talking to my fellow latinxs ! I tried to peacefully reason with her and invite her to have a convo with me as to how promoting this, is not okay. People who don’t understand our sacred tradition of honoring our dead will not understand that it’s not okay to do this “look”. My culture is not a costume. She deleted my comment and said that if anyone tries to tell her something they’ll get blocked. Please help!!!
Lol she is private law abiding citizen why are you harassing her
Trying to educate some one and advise them that a culture is not a costume is not harassment.
You are encouraging others to contact her, which is harassment
Depending on how they talk to her, then yes some may be harassing but wanting to bring back the sacredness of my culture and remind those that’s it’s not a costume and not even related to Halloween isn’t harassment.
Yeah but did you know that if they send her death threats, etc. You are legally responsible for whatever happens to her? Also, you are not the authority on your culture, many Latin people are OK with others doing sugar skull make up
Did you not read the op? It’s said “peaceful reasoning” if ppl send death threats and some one acts on it, that’s not my problem. I’m not promoting that. And the fact that the MAU herself is even deleting those comments just proves she’s ignorant and doesn’t want to be educated. And news flash, I can authorize what can go down in my culture because it’s MY CULTURE. This originated in Mexico, my peoples native land and has ties to indigenous Aztec rituals. It’s celebrated on All Saints Day and All Souls Days, holidays connected to Catholicism. So tell me again how she doing this is okay?
It is a culture that does not belong to just YOU but millions of other people, which means you do not get to authorize anything. You are free to have your own opinion about sugar skulls but other people are also free to do as they wish
It’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. Día de los muertos has religious ties to it. You just don’t put it on to have fun and look cute. It also has nothing to do with Halloween. That’s what we are trying to get through y'all head. It’s cultural appropriation.
You are in a very small minority of people who think that way. Honestly it’s sad. The majority of the people are OK with it. Again, you are welcome to have an opinion but you will not authorize anyone
Is this your culture? Were you raised with these values? Also, the only people who are okay with this are those appropriating my culture. And actually honey, a lot of people share my view on this. We ain’t that small.
I have spoken to literally hundreds of Latinos about this issue and they are OK with it. No I wouldn’t put on sugar skull make up because I think it’s ugly
Everyone can go home now. Becky McMayo has spoken to hundreds of Latinx and they are okay with their culture & sacred tradition being trivialized by some ignorant pendeja. Thank You @luckygirl9. What would we do without your very necessary opinions & input about a culture you’re not part of & don’t know shit about.
It is a culture and not a costume. Just because a few Latinos are okay with sugar skull makeup does not mean that every Latino is okay with sugar skull makeup.
The respectful thing to do, is to stop doing sugar skull makeup tutorials, because it will, and has, offended people.
By continuing to produce these sugar skull makeup tutorials it is disrespecting to my culture, to my heritage, and the sacred meaning behind dia de los muertos.
It is not Halloween. It is the day of the dead. Please respect my culture.
Gas Station (Cultural) Robbery
Are we supposed to be flattered by the fact that our culture is now being used to sell cheap nicknacks at American gas stations?
