SG-1 Chronological Rewatch pt. 🥲💔
Just watched Summit and Last Stand (season 5) and OMG my emotions. I had a good little cry there. I've seen these episodes before, and I've seen the ones with Martouf before, but they never really hit like this. Something about watching everything in order so I get the full weight of Martouf's relationship with Sam, so that I know implicitly who Lantash is and why it FREAKING MATTERS that they saved him and not Martouf (which could be a whole separate rant post, Tok'ra when I catch you Tok'ra), now that I KNOW who Elliot is and mixing all of that together... holy cow that's an emotional mix. We knew Martouf loved Sam even if he never got to say it, but his death was so sudden and so unexpected we never really fully got to process it and he never got to tell her to what extent he did love her. For Lantash to have fought to hang on so that Sam could know that not only Martouf be he too loved her every bit as much as they loved Jolinar, T_T I cry. That felt important to know this whole time it hadn't just been Martouf. They he and Lantash really were a part of each other.
It was like saying goodbye to Martouf all over again, and also for the first time since there was no goodbye the first time. And Gosh they made me want that stupid little snake to make it so bad. I really truly wanted Lantash to live on because if he did it meant in a way Martouf did too. I think even Sam was feeling that some. And what an Uno Reverse on us from the earlier seasons with all the "you are all that's left of Jolinar" stuff. Now here I sat feeling the exact same way but about the other side of that messed up situation. I didn't want Martouf to die again, and frankly I didn't want Lantash to die. This ONE EPISODE managed to give character and life to an entity we had known of but barely seen up till then, only to then rip him away from us. I knew Lantash was #there the whole time, but he didn't really exist as an entity I cared about until these two episodes. They freakin made me care about a snake. I thought the only one I would care about was Selmak, but naur. Had to make me retroactively love this lil symbiote dude right before making him commit the ultimate sacrifice for love right before my eyes. Which, bro, is making me tear up rn, because that's exactly what Martouf would have done if he were there and exactly what he would have wanted. Boy would have so happily gone out to save Sam.
Which leads me back to the closure of it all-- They didn't want Sam to blame herself for their his death. I know that had to have been haunting her. It clearly tore her up so bad in the moment. Besides Jack, Martouf(/Lantash) was the closest she came in to show to actually being in love or potentially being happy. Like yeah no wonder in one of the alt universes seen in one of the later seasons there was a Martouf who had joined the SGC, who had gone to live with Sam, who had tried to make it work with her. He really loved her (and so did Lantash man this gonna make me cry again stupid lil snake lol *sniffle*). If she was gonna have a chance with anyone other than Jack it would have been him/them. *screams into the void* Unfortunately for him bro just wasn't her soulmate.
Anyway I'm devastated. ALSO RIP ELLIOT ! Poor lil Lieutenant they just made us love a handfull of episodes ago. I would have loved to have seen him go on, and do more, and become the future of the Stargate program just like they'd said. He was such a good egg. But there he goes on mission number one. Funny enough though, it was also good he was there, because of him SG-1 made it out. Because he was willing to work with Lantash. Because Lantash wanted to save Sam. *crying resolved on the stack*
Ofc there was no way out of this for them, but still. Hekkin sad. HEKKIN SAD.
Rest in peace Martouf/Lantash and Elliot, you guys managed to save the woman you* loved.
*(Or ya know really respected and looked up to in Elliot's case. But like they said ya know he could feel the feelings so I'm sure in the moment he probably felt the love too but that's weird to think about so let's just... ignore that part. Also gonna resist the urge to draw any parallels between Sam and Haley and Elliot and Jack and the shippy little vibes I had during the training episode... that might be a different post... nope nope not gonna do it rn!)
humans are space orks: intense focus
Alien: "Human."
Human: "Hm."
Alien: "Oh my gods - HUMAN. OPEN YOUR EARS."
Human: "..."
(The pencil they were using abruptly snaps in half)
Human: "!!!"
Alien: "I cannot believe I had to resort to telekinesis for you to listen to me. You know I hate being ignored."
Human: "I wasn't trying to ignore you. I was just, like, in the zone."
Alien: "...?"
Human: "You know, really focused. To the point I, uh, didn't hear you calling my name."
(The growling of their stomach echoes through the room)
Alien: (Mildly angry) "When was the last time you ate?"
Human: "... That depends on what time it is... I haven't checked."
Alien:
Alien: "Sometimes, human, you make me want to strangle you."
I love the “humans are space orcs” trope, but I’d also like to propose “humans are space platypuses.” They defy every attempt at classification.
Some species are aggressive and individualistic—they evolved from solitary predators. Some are social and diplomatic—they evolved from prey that banded together in herds. And there are hive mind species that colonize new territory under a monarch’s direction. But humans are social predators with a colonizing past (hopefully), both diplomatic and aggressive, ambitious yet ready to work with other species.
For reproduction, some species have a designated brood mother, while the majority cannot reproduce. Other species reproduce asexually after reaching maturity. Others are compelled to reproduce by heat cycles. But while almost all humans are capable of reproduction, many just… choose not to? They even invented something called “birth control” so they can participate in sex and prevent reproduction, as if the evolutionary drive to reproduce can just be switched off despite their capability.
I’d love to know if anyone else has thoughts on this!

I am currently finishing up some training in work, and the topic is on helping international students to avoid culture shock. They have just presented me with this graphic:
They've captioned it with "This is a bit of fun but it highlights the underlying point" but I am now completely stuck on "I'm sure it's my fault" - "It's your fault" - "Why do they think it was their fault?" as an interaction
i know everyone loves baby seals, but sometimes i really am blown away by their whimsy. they took a teddy bear and made it a mermaid. i feel very wonderful knowing we live on the same planet as puppy mermaid teddies

The thing that really boils my potatoes about AI in general is that I have been a creative professional for over a decade now and the devil has ALWAYS been in the details. Big and small, I've had single-person businesses rip me to shreds over how their colors turned out on newsprint, and have worked with huge companies with THICK brand guidelines with every detail of their brand identity laid out and enforced with an iron fist.
But I guess all of that stuff doesn't matter anymore? Who gives a fuck if this AI generated baby has six fingers, that mom-and-pop shop is still going to use it. That rug from Temu says Happy Thanksgivirg? Oh well haha it's just a silly funny thing now (nevermind that you never would have given a B-grade item from a craft show the same consideration). I don't actually care that the AI Coca-cola ad has a truck that changes size every scene, but I can't help but think about how, if it had been some poor underpaid artist, they would have been laughed out of the building.
I don't really know how to put it in a succint way but it just feels all the more obvious how much more grace and flexibility has always been possible but never offered.
My first (completed) digital portrait! This was mostly an attempt at figuring out how layers work and experimenting with brushes. I need to wrap my brain around the "digital" aspect and figure out how to not treat it like traditional painting but on a screen, but I'm learning! I'm very excited to try more!

the greatest thing about having a cat is it just scratches my inherent itch to be annoying. life is just so much better when you can walk through your living room and point at the animal minding her own business on the couch and go “itsababyyyyy” in a really fucking stupid voice

When you've been a writer for long enough, commas become more of a spiritual practice than a grammatical one.
Could I explain the actual rules of how they’re used? Absolutely not.
Do I rely on sensing a tremor in the force to tell me where to use them? Yes and this has never failed me even once.
It fails, me constantly.
without a doubt this is the strongest indicator that we are swiftly heading to a recession
