“People are dreams and awkwardness and gawk.”
— Neil Gaiman, Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances
I’ve heard a lot of malaphors in my time, but nothing beats ‘You won’t live to regret it’ for its simplicity and unintended malice
YESSSSSS my bf actually says ‘We’ll burn that bridge whe we get to it’ hoping people will pick him up on it and thus far NO ONE HAS (except me, an intellectual).
this post killed me, brought me back and killed me again

One can argue that all stories are "just" variations on stories that have been told before. A relative of mine said that makes fiction boring and is why they don't read it anymore.
Can you please tell me that's ridiculous so I can say to myself "Neil Gaiman says that's ridiculous" whenever I have to put up with the negativity of this particular relative?
All lives are just variations on lives that went before. People are born and do stuff and succeed sometimes and fail sometimes, and make love or don't, have children or don't, are happy or not, and then they die.
And sometimes as people age they can lose interest in things they once cared about. Love, sex, other people, stories, music, art, success, all that. Some people care forever. Some of them lose their ability to care. To listen. Even to love.
People losing interest in things they once cared about as they age is something to be pitied, not something to be argued with. You won't fix it by arguing. You can't make people care about things they no longer care about.
So don't worry. Don't argue with your relative. Spend the time reading something you love instead.
