LOVE ME AGAIN — kim taehyung.
pairing: publicist! fem reader x idol! kim taehyung
summary: it’s been six months since you and Taehyung broke up and it seems like he can’t move on… could you?.
genre/warning: a little angst but mostly fluff and crack (a lot of cursing).
you can find more in this masterlist.
The sunny weather illuminated the streets with warmth, it was a perfect spring day, it was almost summer. The scenery was beautiful, a Seoul park where children were playing on one side, some people were having picnics and others were just passing by. The flowers were blooming in a warm color and the trees made the atmosphere even more beautiful. You could hear the bustle of people talking and some music playing on speakers. Taehyung was sitting alone on a bench, watching the people laughing and talking, he was wearing headphones and a mask.
Taehyung had never felt so miserable.
He felt in the same loop as he did six months ago, as if he was still at your kitchen table, sitting across from you while you were breaking his heart. Nothing had changed for him... well, he had traveled the world to work on his new album, he had met new places, new people, he did new things and he had come home so he could rest... and he still felt like shit. Why couldn't he get over you?, why was it so hard to not think about you all the time? he was going crazy.
The worst thing was that your relationship had ended amicably.
You had sat him down in front of you, explaining to him the reasons why you should break up... the relationship was no longer working. You barely saw each other because of how busy you both were, you two hardly spoke anymore and he would soon be enlisted in the military where he would be busier if he continued working at the same time. Nothing was really going on your relationships favor. He understood why you felt that way, the last couple months you two didn't seem to be in a relationship but rather close friends and that was the worst. But it had all been so fast, he had just come back from his two week tour to be with you and you just sat him down to break up with him.
He was frustrated, he had barely been able to fight for the relationship because you didn't give him time. to even think. You had just broke up with him, out of nowhere... and then disappeared. He hated you... no, he didn't... but he hated that you hadn't answered to any of his messages after he took it all in, after trying to fix everything. You didn't love him anymore? you didn't care anymore? He had spent the first two months angry that you had made that decision and that he just had to accept it, the next four months he spent them crying and sulking.
Taehyung thought that leaving Seoul would be for the best but now that he was back nothing had improved, he still had the same broken heart and thought of you at every turn. Was he the only one?... Were you already over him?..... He wanted to find any excuse to hear from you, to see you, to know how you were doing, to know if you were feeling the same as him. Because every place he went, every person he met, every thing he felt was you. He was losing his mind, he needed to see if you were like this too because if you were, will you give him another chance?.
He found his chance later that same week.
By Sunday, his photographer friend Jiga had invited him to a gathering he was having to celebrate his work being shown at a gallery in Busan. The truth was, Taehyung was not looking forward to going but after the boy asked him if he would be comfortable with you being there since he had heard that you two had broken up, his mood automatically changed. He finally had a chance to see you. He pretended to be chill about it, saying it was okay and that he will be there. Sunday took forever to come.
Taehyung wore a black suit for the evening, knowing that most people would be dressed up nicely as the celebration would be held at a fancy restaurant in the city. He was wearing light jewelry that you gifted him months ago and almost no makeup. He was ready to see you, he wanted to. He went a litle early than usual just to spent some time in the reception seeing the people coming in, waiting if you came in first so he could talk to you before everything. It didn´t happen. After thirty minutes waiting like an idiot he decided to take the elevator to go to the place. It was the last floor, everyone was already there. He said hi to his friends and tried to socialize a little.
Where the hell were you?.
It was after two hours that you showed up. He was in a corner, drinking with a friend and talking about something he wasn’t paying attention when he saw you enter the room. You were wearing a strappy black dress with a plunging neckline. The dress was long with a slit up the right leg. He didn't know why but it made him so happy that you two were matching without knowing. You had taken his breath away, you had a new haircut and you looked better than ever, he wanted to walked to you and kiss you. He wanted to show you that he was still yours, he wanted to show everyone that you were still his
Were you?.
He blinked, trying to come back to reality. What was his plan again?
“I’m gonna get another drink.”
Taehyung only nodded when his friend walked away, his eyes still on you. Now you were with some people, talking and smiling like life was good… was life good to you?. Maybe you didn’t miss him at all, maybe the break up did make you better. How could he grab your attention?. The next hour he walked around you, going from group to group, talking a little louder, laughing a little harder. You didn’t notice him at all, maybe you just didn’t care, maybe you really didn’t know he was there, he hated both options. You seemed to be in your own little word, happy and thriving.
Maybe he needed to give up.
He walked outside of the place to take a break of everything, he leaned against the balcony rail and his energy went down immediately at his hurtful thoughts. He was thinking that maybe it was only him, maybe he was the only one to suffer. It has been six months so it made sense, he was only the weird guy who couldn’t get over his ex girlfriend.
“Hey.”
Taehyung turned around, momentarily freezing as his eyes found you behind him, leaning against the wall as you lit a cigarette. He cleared his throat as he leaned back against the rail, feigning to be chill as he watched you smoke.
“I thought you stopped smoking.” It was the first thing he said after greeting you.
“Old habits die hard”.
“That’s true,” moved his head “. Can I have one?”.
You gave him one and he took it as leverage so he could approach you and lean in. You didn’t say anything as he put the cigarette in his mouth and moved closer to the cigarette on your lips so he could light his own. He kept his eyes on yours before stepping back and started smoking. If Taehyung's heart was beating fast and his hands were sweating with nervousness, it didn't show at all from the confidence he was faking.
“How have you been?”.
Dying, that was what he wanted to say.
“I’m great, yeah.” He lied, “What about you?”.
Yo sighed before nodding. “I’m doing okay. The job has been keeping me busy.”
“Yeah, same thing.” He bit his lower lip, not being able to read you. “Now I’m in a little break before recording my solo album— I shouldn’t have told you that.”
You snorted and he smiled. He missed that sound so bad. He wanted to leaned in and kiss you stupid. It was taking everything in him no to.
“Don’t worry. I’m good at keeping secrets”.
“I know you are.”
It wasn’t the first time he told you something he shouldn’t. He trusted you that much. You were his.
“Is that why the blonde hair?.”
“Uhm,” he rubbed his hair, suddenly feeling shy. “I like it.”
“It looks good on yo,” you complimented him.
“Thank you.” He inhaled his cigarette, trying not to act on his emotions. “Your hair looks good too. You— You look great”.
“Thanks,” you said before turning off the end of your cigarette and throwing it in the trash. “Anyway, it was great to see you, I’m glad you’re doing great.” You smiled and he wanted to die. “I’ll see you around, I guess. Bye, Taehyung.”
You didn’t give him time to answer, you just left him there standing alone. For the second time, you didn’t give him time to say anything he wanted to say.
“Yeah, I’ll see you around.” He whispered to himself.
He didn’t want that. He didn’t want to see you around, he wanted to see you everyday. It was frustrating because he couldn’t read your min. Hee couldn’t see what you were thinking, how you were feeling. Were you actually okay? You look like it. You really didn’t miss him at all?.
This situation was so frustrating.
two years ago.
“You motherfucker, come back!”.
Taehyung laughed uproariously as he continued to run away from you. In his hands he had your phone, he had taken it from you after complaining for minutes that you weren't paying attention to him. You had spent half the day watching crime documentaries that you didn't realize he was still in your apartment. After all, you did invite him to spent the day together so it made sense why he was complaining at your bad host skills.
You and Taehyung had met five months ago at a friends party, at that time you worked in HYBE in the marketing area but you specialized in events, making the group you represented perform in different places to promote themselves. You had started spending more time together after you both got locked in an elevator for four hours. You became close after that.
"I´m bored!,” he complained before jumping to your bed.
You threw yourself on top of him, trying to grab your phone. He laughed as he moved forcefully to get you off of him. In one bad move, you both fell to the floor on your carpet. You groaned in pain before rolling to the side to get off him, laughing as he rubbed his head in pain.
"That´s on you.”
"You weren´t paying attention to me," he pouted.
"Oh, you poor baby.” You said sarcastically.
He moved to your side, holding himself with his arm to look at you. You smiled innocently and he narrowed his eyes. "I like when you call me that.”
You let out a chuckle, causing him to lower his gaze to your lips. Suddenly, the urge to kiss you flooded his system. It wasn't the first time he had thought about doing it. He had been thinking about it for weeks and he was sure you had already noticed by the way you looked at him, as if you knew what he was thinking. Taehyung licked his lips and without thinking he stamped his lips to yours.
It was a small peck to know if you really wanted it as much as he did, when you didn't push him away, he kissed you more confidently.
Your lips opened slightly and he took the opportunity to move his, his right hand held your cheek so he could deepen the kiss, fingers gripping the back of your neck. Your lips were soft and plump, he wanted to feel you completely. His thumb moved towards your jaw, a little lower than your lower lip to pull slightly on your skin and make you open your mouth. He achieved his task and shamelessly moved his tongue to start running it around your mouth, trying to memorize every part of it and get lost in your taste.
After a few seconds you pushed his chest slightly to pulled away, he did it, just a little. He smiled softly, a little shy after the kiss. You looked at him, your lips swollen and pink. He thought he’d never seen someone look more beautiful.
“That’s on you too”.
You grabbed his head and smacked your lips to his.
.
It was a Friday night and Taehyung was at a clothing brand event. He had taken a couple of pictures and greeted several people before heading to the bathroom. The truth was that he didn't really feel like showing up, he hadn't been able to rest much the night before, working on his album. He was tired of thinking about you, he wanted a break from everything, a distraction. He thought that maybe life was against him when he heard your name outside the toilet cubicule he was at. They two guys who named you weren’t saying nothing much to think about, talking about some events you had assigned them that week and sharing some opinions about it. He recognized them after some seconds, remembering the group you were working for now.
Stray Kids.
He just played with his phone, waiting for them to leave since he was tired of greeting people. However something caught his attention when they mention you we’re going out.
"She’s coming with us tomorrow?."
"She has that thing with Tsuki, remember?.
The guy chuckled. “Right. She’s gonna see him."
"The date",” the other guy said in a bad english.
"I can’t believe she agreed to that".
He couldn’t hear more as the guys left the bathroom. Taehyung stood up and opened the door, seeing himself in the mirror, his expression hard.
Had you really moved on?.
He was gonna shoot himself in the head.
He clenched his jaw in discomfort, feeling the blood in his body boil. He unbuttoned the first few buttons of his shirt, feeling his body heat up with annoyance. He wanted to call you and ask for a fucking explanation. He wanted to punch the person you were going out with. How had you got over him so quickly? It had been six months, of course it was time to move on with your lives. Why couldn't he? Why did you always bother his mind? Maybe he needed to move on too, trying to date so he wouldn’t think about you.
You weren’t his anymore.
And you clearly didn’t want him to be yours anymore.
He left the bathroom and headed to the bar they had put for the private event, ready to end his sorrows with alcohol at least for that night. He could barely finish his first drink as some friends approached to talk to him, he tried to be friendly while thinking of an excuse to leave early from there. He wasn´t having it.
one year and a half ago.
It was midnight in America. You and Taehyung were on the hotel’s roof, talking and watching the sky since you finally had a moment alone. You had visited him that day, trying to spent time together after a week apart, you both found a day where you could see each other and made it work. You had been with the other guys catching up but he was happy to have a moment alone with you, just talking and kissing.
“I can’t believe you’re not working for HYBE anymore, you’re a traitor.” He complained for the hundredth time that month.
“Not my fault that JYP gave me a better contract, I’m head of my area now.” You smiled. “And those guys are fun to work with.”
“I hope you’re not ogling that guy with the deep voice,” he pouted.
You snorted. “I don’t ogle anyone.”
“You better, I know the charms of having a deep voice,” he said jokingly and pouty.
“Oh, really?. So you get a lot of girls by that?” you raised an eyebrow and he smirked.
“I wouldn’t know. I only have eyes for one pretty girl.”
“And who’s that?”
You tried to hide your smile when he grabbed you by your hips. Taehyung bit his lower lips, pretending to think. “You don’t know her.”
“I better not see her around, I know how to fight.” You crossed your arms and he pressed you against him.
“Baby, you really don’t.” He giggled.
“Okay, skill issue but I know people who can fight for me.” He threw his head back laughing and you punched his shoulder. “I do!.”
“You don’t have to fight anyone. There’s only you.”
He grabbed your face to kiss you, knowing that it was only him for you too.
.
"Hey.”
Teahyung turned around when someone patted his shoulder. It was a girl, she was wearing a black dress and light makeup. She was an idol he had known for a long time but they never talked that much. She was pretty and really talented, her confidence in stage and out of it was something her fans really respected, she was well known in the industry. The girl stood in front of him, confident and smiling as she sipped her drink.
For the first time. Taehyung gave up.
"Hi."
"I heard you broke up with the marketing girl. Is that true?."
She was very straight-forward, she knew what she wanted and he could respect that.
He scrunched his nose, a little annoyed. He wanted to correct her, tell her that you weren´t just a "marketing girl", that you were so much more than that, that you were head of your area, a publicist, a manager, the head of the marketing team and more... why did he have to defend you? Were you even that anymore? He didn´t know, he didn´t know what you were up to those days because you didn´t talk to each other anymore. He didn’t know. He didn’t know anything about you anymore.
And he hated that so much.
Taehyung nodded slightly. “Yeah, it’s true.”
“Well, I dont know if this makes me bold or stupid but if you wanna hang out— I’m free this weekend.”
He stared at her, ready to reject her and just leave that place. It wasn´t the first time that he got hit on by someone since your breakup but... if you could move on, why couldn´t him?.
“Yes,” he said. “I would like that".
She smiled, satisfied. “You have my number.”
Did he?.
“I’ll pick the place," he nodded.
Would you care he was on a date with someone else?.
It was next Friday when Taehyung had a free day and decided to take out the girl. He was well dressed and had some makeup on, decided to give it all that night. He took her to some fancy and private restaurant before taking her to an arcade, putting effort to the date, trying to make it work… which made him more angry because the only thing that was on his mind was you.
Would you know that he reserved a part of an arcade for her?, Would you know that he was having a great time?. He wanted you to know, part of him wanted you to know. Would you be mad? Would you ask for an explanation? Would you make a scene? Would you— would you care?.
He thought that maybe you didn’t. Maybe you had an amazing time with that guy you had a date with last week and now you were in his apartment, probably on another date. You were probably having sex with him, maybe you were talking something deep, maybe you were telling him your secrets, your thoughts, your ideas about life, about love, about everything that made you you. Maybe he was taking off your dress, whispering sweet things to you and maybe you liked that, maybe you liked the thought of sharing your body and mind with someone that wasn’t him.
He wanted to cry at that thought.
“Look, the paintball!.”
He came back to reality, clearing his throat and looking around, trying not to think about you while he was spending time with another woman.
Taehyung sighed wearily as the girl pulled him by his hand to go to some game. It was a small stall where you had to grab a fake gun and aim at the targets to make them fall from their place, if you managed to make them all fall you got to win a stuffed animal of choice which hung above the stall in an eye-catching manner.
He hated that game, you used to love it so much it was annoying.
He decided to not to let his mood be ruined by the thought of you.
“What do you want me to get you? I’ll win you anything you want.” He said cocky, flirting.
“I’ll do it myself,” she smiled. “I’m a strong woman, you know?. I can win my own plushie.”
“I know you are.” Taehyung nodded slightly, trying not to cringe and ruin the mood. “Just let me get you this, for my ego.”
“Just this time”.
Taehyung smiled and grabbed the fake gun to aimed the targets and shot them. He was quick to win the game. He had been practicing after knowing he would go to the military soon, after you. You would hate this so much.
His date clapped her hands, surprised and happy.
“Which one would you like?.”
“The kitty one,” she pointed out, and the guy that was working reached it out for her. “It’s so small and cute.”
You would hate it, he thought.
“Like you.”
You would’ve gagged at his comment but she was kind enough to laughed at it and smile shyly.
A little girl’s cry got their attention. There was a little girl behind them pouting and talking to her mom. “I wanted that one!”
“Oh,” the singer grimaced before kneeling in front of the girl, cleaning her tears. “Don’t pout like that.” She talked to her so nicely and the mom smiled when she noticed the intentions of the singer. “You wanted this one?.”
“Yes.”
“Well you can have it,” she looked back to point at Taehyung. “He won it for you.”
“What do we say?” The mom asked the little girl.
“Thank you, sir.”
“Of course,” Taehyung smiled awkwardly.
“Thank you so much, you’re really nice people.” The mom bowed when her daughter got the plushie, happy.
“It’s just a stuffed animal, I’m sure it meant more for her.” The idol smiled before looking at Taehyung. “You think you can win another one for me?. I think I’ll have the other kitty.” She pointed the small plushie in the corner of the stall.
His smile cracked when he saw the big panda bear in the section. A deja vu coming to his mind.
“You’re such a loser, oh my god!” You laughed at his bad aim. “I’ll win my own plushie. Move, fucking loser.”
“Yah!” He exclaimed, offended. “After I finish the military I’ll have a better aim!.”
“Well, you better! If you don’t I’ll have to win my own plushies every time.” You rolled your eyes, pretending to be annoyed. “You’re a bad boyfriend, can’t even win a small plushie for me.”
“You’re mean!,” he pouted.
“And you’re already a bad soldier. Now shut up so I can concentrate and win my bear.”
Taehyung rolled his eyes. “You have a thousand bears at home, you barely have space for them!.”
“Shut up, this is the best one.”
It was the bigger one actually.
You let the loudest scream when you won. He had to press his hand to his ears for a couple of seconds while you celebrated. The guy that gave you the panda bear rolled his eyes annoyed and Taehyung chuckled, probably everyone already knew your annoying ass in there.
Your smile cracked when you two saw a little boy crying because of your win. His mom trying to tell him that next time he would get the bigger stuffed animal. The woman gave you a kind smile when she saw you flexing your knees to be at the height of the boy. Taehyung smiled softly, thinking that he knew what you were going to do.
“Hey, it’s okay, dont cry.” You cleaned his tears while trying to hold the bear in your arms. “Why are you mad?.”
“I wanted the panda,” he sobbed.
“Now, don’t cry about that. I know a thing that would make you happy.”
“Cute,” Taehyung whispered when you moved the bear in your arms.
“An advice,” you grabbed the boy’s shoulder, looking at him straight into his eyes. “Life won’t give you things because you cry for them. Next time you want something work hard and get it. That is if you really want it.” You patted his head and stood up. The mom was too stunned to speak, same as Taehyung. “Fighting!.”
Taehyung watched you walked away, jumping between steps with happiness all over your face while trying to not let go of the bear that was too heavy for you to carry. You were happy that you got it. And Taehyung was happy he got you.
.
He smiled at the deja vu for a moment, remembering what you said. You were right.
This wasn’t what he wanted.
The wasn’t what he wanted to fight for. What he wanted to put his effort to, he didn’t want to make an effort to get over you— He wanted you, all of you. He hadn’t fight for you at all, he wasn’t given the chance but he didn’t care anymore. He was going to give himself a chance. He was going to fight for you. He wasn’t going to let things flow and accept what you decided by yourself. He wasn’t going to let life decide for him. He wanted you, he really wanted you because he loved you. He loved you so much.
He was going to fight for you to love him again.
He ended the date ten minutes later. He was polite enough to explain the situation to the girl, how he was not ready for a relationship or dating when he really didn’t get over his ex, she was polite enough to flip him off and close the door on his face.
He understood her reaction… and he didn’t care at all.
Taehyung drove straight to your place.
You were lying on your sofa, trying to finish a boring movie while eating some ramen. It had been a long week full of work and you were trying to have some time for yourself. Things were going good lately after months of sadness and melancholy. Your breakup with Taehyung hit you hard but you knew it was the best decision for both of you, confirmed it when he didn’t even fight back for something, for you. It wasn’t like you expected it, you had taken the decision without thoughts of breaking it, you wanted to break up with him, you knew it was the best decision for both, you were barely together.
It was the best, you had to repeat yourself everyday to go through it, it became easier. Not seeing him was easier.
It was 1 am when you heard your bell ringing. You frowned confused since you lived in a private condo. Unless someone got to knocked the security down, you weren’t really afraid of who was trying to get you. You stood up and walked faster when the person started knocking on the door with desperation. Your heart stopped for a second when you saw who it was in the little camera next to your door.
You opened the door slowly. He was wearing some jeans with a white shirt and a black jacket, a little makeup on his face that made him look less tired than he actually was.
Taehyung stood there, breathing heavily.
“I texted you but you didn’t answer—”
“I changed my number,” He frowned confused and you explained yourself. “I lost my phone months ago and had to change everything.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Well, I— we’re— we’re not talking.” You said awkwardly.
“Right,” he nodded, jaw tightening a little. “Right, we’re not— I—”
He stopped himself to look at you. You were wearing a long shirt as your pijamas, looking so beautiful without makeup and your hair down. He missed this part of you. This soft part no one got to see beside him. He missed looking at you tired, homey, soft. He missed you. He missed you so much.
He was supposed to say something. God, he had such a perfect speech prepared. How was it again?.
“Why are you here?” You questioned.
“I had a date,” he said immediately. It wasn’t an act to get you jealous but he just wanted to tell you. He wanted to explain himself to you
“Oh,” you nodded, a little surprised and still awkward. “That’s why you look so nice.”
Nice. Taehyung wanted to hit his face into the wall.
“Nice?” He asked in disbelief. “Since when is that a compliment for you?.”
“What do you want me say?” You frowned, you didn’t understand why was he there, telling you about his date and looking so good. “Why are you even here?.”
You were talking so… formal. He hated that. like you were just acquaintances now, as if months ago he wasn’t kissing every part of you, telling you all his darkest secrets.
“I want you to tell me to fuck off,” he said, already exasperated. Already feeling like he was braking. “I want you to be mad for the fact that I look hot for another woman.”
“Taehyung—”
“I got dressed up for another woman,” He repeated, trying to get a reaction from you. “I flirted with her, I picked her up— I even thought about bring her flowers.” He chuckled, not amused at all. “Do I look hot?.”
“What the fuck?.”
“Just tell me I do.”
“Why would I tell you look hot when you’re dating another bitch?.”
You were getting mad. Good. You did care at least a little. He didn’t mind if it was just ego wise or a reflex of jealousy, he could work with any of that. He would take anything you could give him. Anything to get you back.
He walked to you and you took some steps back. He entered your apartment. “It was my first date since you broke up with me,” he admitted.
“I didn’t—”
“You did, but I don’t blame you because I let you go,” Taehyung let out a breathe, overwhelmed. “Today. It was the first date I had since you and I— I went to the arcade. The place we used to go. I went with her after we got dinner and we went to that stupid game you love, the one where you got all your big ass plushies— Now they only have one stupid bear left, you probably got them all already,” he rolled his eyes. “I won two kitty plushies for her—”
“Why do I care about this?” You interrupted him, annoyed. You clearly didn’t want to hear how your ex boyfriend was happily dating. “I don’t—”
“Let me finish so you can” He said, tears already forming in his eyes. “She gave one of the two to this little girl that was crying because she wanted one and I— I got a deja vu. Remember that one time you made a little boy cry because you didn’t give him your stupid fuckass bear?”
You shook your head. “He was already crying—”
“You told him that if he wanted something he had to work hard for it. That if he really wanted it.” Taehyung cleaned some of his tears that were rolling down his cheeks, he couldn’t stop crying. He just wanted things to go back to normal with you. He hated this part. “We didn’t work hard for this. I didn’t— I know— I know I didn’t. I work hard for my career but I didn’t work hard for you when you told me you weren’t feeling satisfied in this relationship and I should’ve—”
“You did. You work hard,” you shook your head and it made him mad that you were deciding for both again. “We both did but it just didn’t work, Taehyung…”
“Well, then I don’t care.” He shrugged, dramatically. “I’ll work harder. I’ll work a thousand times harder. I’ll break my legs and my back for you. I only love you, y/n.”
A hard silence followed after that.
He looked at you, teary eyes and a last of hope. He sobbed when you shook your head, you couldn’t do it. You were afraid of losing him again, of having to go for the same pain again.
“We tried.”
“So let’s try again,” he begged, now fully crying. “I… I haven’t stopped thinking about you since the day I let you go— I can’t— I can’t stop thinking if you feel the same. This sad, this broken. I can’t stop thinking if you care about me, if you moved on… I can’t stop thinking if you will ever love me again.”
You let a broken sigh, trying not to cry. How could he think you didn’t? He was the one who moved on.
“You went on a date,” you told him, the knot in your throat feeling tighter.
“Because you did too!”
“Who told you that?.”
“I heard those stray kids guys talking about how you finally agreed to going on a date with fucking Tsuki— whoever the fuck that is.” He told you with disgust all over his face.
You rolled your eyes, unbelievable.
“You mean Tsuki Boe?. The guy who works at HYBE and has been trying to get a business date with me so I can be part of his team again?” You looked at him, unbelievably and already piss off“. The one you pressed a year ago to get me a job in your stupid company again so I could work with you?.”
Oh.
Oh.
Right, now he remembered. He was so blind by jealousy and angriness, he could barely remember that guy. Well, now it was awkward.
He cleaned his tears and scratched his neck.
“So… did you accept the offer?.”
“Fuck, no.”
He frowned, confused. “What? Why no?.”
“You think I wanna see your face everyday after what happened?. I just agreed to the meeting to stop him once for all. Your voice was a little louder now, he could tell you were angry.
“So you didn’t go on an actual date?.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Well… this is awkward.”
“Fuck you, Taehyung.”
“You can do that if you want,” you looked at him bored and he let out a breathy laugh. A little more relaxed to know you weren’t seeing anyone else. “I love you, y/n. I don’t want anyone else. I only want you. You annoyance, your anger, your happiness, your love. I want all of you. Like no time has passed.”
“But it has, Taehyung. Time clearly passed and you— you went on a date with an idol.” You looked away, hurt.
“I did but— Wait— How— How did you know who it was?.”
Your face flushed at the realization, trying to find an excuse quickly. “Because you told me.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Yes—”
“I didn’t.”
“Well, I heard things too!”
Taehyung grinned, connecting dots. “You asked about me?.”
“Shut up.”
“You care!.”
“You know what? Just go home I dont need this—”
“You asked about me because you care” He giggled, suddenly feeling so happy to know you had been going through the same as him. “You want me too!.”
“Of course I do you fucking idiot!. You picked her up and thought about bring her flowers?, Did you also kiss her?!” You started asking, loud and mad. “You went on a date to my place and won two plushies for her! You didn’t win one for me not even once!” You pushed him, trying to get him out of your apartment. “Did you have fun? Did you smiled when she gave the plushie to that little girl?. I bet you thought it was adorable, huh. Did you fuck h—?”
He kissed you.
You tried to push him away several times but he took your wrists in his hands, pushing his head harder towards you so that he could continue kissing you. And you gave up after a few seconds. You had missed his lips, his touch, his kiss. You had missed him so much.
After a few seconds his hands released your wrists to grab your cheeks, guiding the kiss to a deeper one. He licked your lower lip gently before pushing his tongue deeper into your mouth. He missed your mouth, he missed kissing you stupid. He missed tasting every part of you and remembering what it felt to be able to kiss you like that. He had missed every taste and touch of you.
And finally after months of torture and foreign places Taehyung felt like he was back home, with you.
After a couple of minutes just making out Taehyung pulled away slowly. A big smile on his face.
“I didn’t kiss her, I didn’t even think about it. I don’t like her. I didn’t think it was adorable at all— It was weird and not you at all. I could only think about that little boy that you made him cry—”
“He was already crying!” you said agai.
“I only want you,” He said, looking at your eyes, showing you his honesty in them. “I’ll block her number right now. I’ll call my manager and tell him to cancel every event if she’s attending to it— I’ll do anything but please—” He begged, again. “I’ll win a thousand plushies bears for you, I’ll buy the fucking company and give you all the bears you want. I’ll buy you a new house for you to put all those stuffed animals there if you want— ”
“Yah!” you pushed him softly, trying to take a step back but he caught your hips so you wouldn’t go to far away from him. He didn’t want to let you go. “I don’t need you to win me anything. You suck at that game.”
“I have better aim now!” He tried to defend himself.
“It was probably luck.”
“I won two plushies.”
Your eyes narrowed, a dark gaze looking straight the at him. “Talk about winning plushies for her again and I swear—”
“I was just stating.”
“Two times luck, give up.”
“Three times, actually—”
“You won three for her?!. You better go back to her fucking place and—”
“I went back to the arcade for one last thing,” He pulled away from you, leaving the apartment to get something out of the hallway. You tried not to smile when he entered you apartment with the big bear he saw early that day. “It’s for you.”
You grabbed the big and stupid stuffed animal, looking at him with a small smile.
“Thank you.”
He nodded, biting his lips a little nervous. “Can we fix things?.”
“We can.”
Taehyung could finally breathe.
He wanted to jump of happiness. His smile grew bigger and he took a step closer to you to kiss you again. You tried to pulled away but he didn’t let you, kissing your face with excitement. Leaving kisses all over your face.
“Thank you— I swear—”
“We still have to talk about some things.”
“I know but let me kiss you first,” He whined and you rolled your eyes.
“Baby.”
He started kissing your lips with euphoria, pressing fast pecks all over them and feeling how he was coming back to life. “I like when you call me that, baby.”
Your grabbed his hair in your hand and pulled him away to look him directly into his eyes, this time your face was serious. Your voice low and mad as hell.
“We’re never going back to that Arcade ever again, Taehyung.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Now he wasn’t going to let you go. If it was possible for you to love him again, he was never going to let you walk away from him again.

Seeing the man you were hopelessly in love with have intercourse with another woman in your bed while you were carrying your miracle child broke you in ways that you just couldn’t explain. You couldn’t wrap your head around it.
You almost gaslit yourself into thinking this was a sick dream or something.
But the way Jimin was texting and calling your phone told you that this?
It wasn't a dream.
The way you were crying it was honestly a miracle that you made it to your friend’s house in one piece.
Every text message that flew in was just another stab to the heart.
“Baby, I promise you. She meant- no she means nothing to me. You mean everything to mean. Pretty, please believe me…” one text read. You hardly got done reading that one before another one came in.
“I can see you reading them, please say something. Something other than you leaving me…please.”
You scoffed as warm tears rolled down your face, shaking your head, you typed back.
“It meant nothing? Is that supposed to make everything okay? Jimin, you slept with another woman in our bed…in our home…after everything we’ve been through. I’ve never looked at another man that wasn’t you let alone sleep with one. Not even because you get too jealous, purely from my love for you. I could never do what you did to me…I’m done. We’re done. Do not come here”
You had so many misspelled words and broken sentences from crying so much, you doubt Jimin could understand you.
Jimin’s phone nearly shattered from his grip as he read your text. His entire body went rigid before his hands started shaking and panic started settling in. He tried breathing, he tried counting down from ten or up to five-whatever the hell it went before texting you back.
“Yn do not speak nonsense to me. Please. I cannot live without you and you know that. We can’t throw away our marriage over a mistake. You can’t decide that after this. You are MY wife and that is MY baby inside of you”
He was sprinting to his car, bypassing all of the staff that worked in his complex. He even ignored Hoseok and Yoongi as they were coming back from the studio.
“What's his deal?” Yoongi said, looking behind as Jimin bolted through the doors.
“Well he did say that Yn gets crazy when it comes to her favorite ice cream, maybe he ate it all.” Hoseok shrugged before continuing walking. Yoongi chuckled.
“My blossom is like that too. Especially now since she’s expecting our baby girl.”
Hoseok chuckled,
“Two kids under two is pretty insane, Hyung.”
“Well I can’t stay off her long enough, it’ll be three sooner or later.”
The banter was light but the burden in Jimin’s chest was heavy.
This was more than ice cream.
It was his baby and marriage on the line.
Jimin was already in the car, the engine roaring to life as he peeled out of the parking garage. He didn’t want for the car to warm up, he didn’t even wait for his seatbelt to click, he was already down the busy streets of Seoul. He fucked up and he knew that.
But the thought of you actually leaving him?
He wasn’t going to accept that.
“I’m already on my way. If you think I’m letting you walk away from me, from us, from the life we’ve built for our baby that’s growing inside of you, you are mistaken. I know I made a mistake, but you don’t get to take my child and disappear. We took vows, pretty. For better or worse. Forever.”
Jimin threw his phone to the passenger seat as he nibbled on his lip nervously. His hands, gripping the steering wheel so tight that his knuckles were turning white from the pressure. The hypocrisy of his words weren’t lost on him, he knew that if a man had even walked past you a little too close, he would’ve lost his mind.
But this wasn’t about that.
This was about realizing that he is so close to losing something that was a constant in his life, an anchor for him and his hidden emotions, something that actually mattered to him. More than life itself.
You didn’t even walk into your friend’s house, she was already walking out, wrapping her robe tighter against the cool night’s air. Her husband happened to see you in the driveway when he had gotten home for work. You were so caught in your emotions that you hadn’t noticed him pull into the driveway and head inside.
“Yn? Honey? What are you doing out here? It’s so-what’s wrong?”
She immediately signaled for you to unlock the car door so she could sit with you.
You couldn’t even bring yourself to tell her at first.
You were so against telling your friends and family about any argument that you and Jimin had. You knew you and Jimin would fix the problem before they could even form their opinions about whatever little argument that you had. Jimin did the same. He never told his family or friends about arguments that you had either, but this was something you couldn’t keep to yourself.
It’s not healthy in your current condition and Jimin was the next person in line to speak to,
And that wasn’t something you were ready to do.
Your friend’s face softened instantly as she slipped into the passenger seat beside you, the scent of her lavender body wash filling the cold silence. She reached for your hand immediately, her thumb brushing against your trembling fingers.
“Talk to me sweet girl. Tell me what’s wrong..”
Your lips parted but nothing came out.
How could you even begin to explain this?
Just hours ago you were in this exact driveway laughing with her, holding back tears of happiness while showing her the positive test hidden in your purse. She had hugged you so tightly you thought your ribs would crack.
Now you could barely breathe.
Your chest tightened violently as another sob climbed its way up your throat. You turned your face away quickly, embarrassed by how broken you sounded.
“Hey, hey…” she whispered gently. “Look at me.”
You shook your head immediately.
“I can’t,” you choked out.
Fear began creeping into her expression now, replacing confusion.
“Is it the baby?” she asked quickly, eyes darting down toward your stomach. “Did something happen?”
The question shattered something inside of you.
Just another reminder of how much it took to get here.
And just how much this hurts.
Fresh tears spilled down your cheeks as you covered your mouth, your shoulders shaking violently.
“No—the baby’s okay,” you cried softly. “The baby’s okay…”
Relief flashed across her face briefly before concern took over all over again.
“Then what happened?” she asked carefully.
You stared down at your lap.
At your shaking hands.
At the wedding ring that suddenly felt heavier than it ever had before.
Your voice came out barely above a whisper.
“I was going to tell him tonight.”
Her brows furrowed in confusion.
“What?”
“I…” Your breath hitched painfully. “I had everything set up.”
The tiny socks flashed in your mind instantly.
The white box.
Jimin’s smile you had imagined all day long.
Your stomach twisted so hard you thought you might be sick.
“He came home from Japan and I wanted to surprise him,” you whispered, tears falling faster now. “I thought maybe he didn’t see the box downstairs so I went looking for him and…”
Your voice broke completely.
Your friend went still beside you.
And suddenly she knew.
You saw it happen on her face in real time.
The realization.
The horror.
“No…” she whispered quietly.
A sob escaped you before you could stop it.
“He was with another woman.”
The words finally left your mouth and the second they did, the entire world felt different.
Real.
Humiliatingly real.
Your friend inhaled sharply beside you, one hand immediately flying to her mouth.
“What?” she breathed out in disbelief.
You laughed bitterly through your tears, the sound completely broken.
“She was in our bed,” you whispered. “She was sitting on him and I just—”
Your voice collapsed again.
“Oh my God.”
Your friend looked genuinely sick now.
Not just angry.
Heartbroken for you.
“Yn…” she whispered softly.
“I don’t understand,” you cried. “I don’t understand why he would do this to me.”
Your breathing became uneven again as the images replayed mercilessly in your mind.
Jimin smiled.
That woman was touching him.
The sound of her voice.
Your stomach churned violently.
“He wanted this baby so badly,” you whispered shakily, pressing a trembling hand against your stomach. “We both did…”
Your friend’s eyes immediately dropped to the movement before softening all over again.
“Oh honey…”
And that was it.
The sympathy in her voice destroyed the last fragile piece holding you together.
You bent forward with a broken sob as she immediately pulled you into her arms, holding you carefully while you cried against her shoulder.
“I don’t know what to do,” you whispered helplessly. “I don’t know what to do anymore…”
Taehyung was watching from the living room and knew something wasn’t right. When he saw the text message from his wife:
‘He fucking cheated on her’
‘She is falling apart! He broke her!’
He pulled his phone out and called Jimin.
Jimin answered on the first ring.
“Is she there?” he asked immediately, voice rough and breathless. “Taehyung, put her on the phone. Please.”
Taehyung stood near the living room window, staring out toward your car still sitting in the driveway. Through the windshield he could barely make out your silhouette curled into his wife’s side.
His jaw tightened. You are just as close to him as Jimin was. His wife adores you and so did he. They were there for you and Jimin for every negative test, every false hope. Not only did it hurt you but it hurt them as well.
“She’s here.”
The relief Jimin let out sounded almost painful.
“Thank God,” he breathed shakily. “Is she okay? Did she say anything? Is the baby okay?”
Taehyung closed his eyes briefly at the panic in his voice before speaking again.
“You need to slow down.”
“I can’t fucking slow down right now,” Jimin snapped instantly before catching himself. “I’m sorry—I just—fuck, Tae, I need to see her.”
Taehyung’s grip tightened around his phone.
For a moment, he said nothing.
And somehow the silence felt worse.
Then finally:
“What the hell were you thinking?”
Jimin’s breathing staggered quietly on the other end.
“I wasn’t.”
“That’s your excuse?”
“No,” Jimin answered immediately, voice breaking slightly. “No, there’s no excuse.”
Taehyung shook his head slowly in disbelief.
“You had everything,” he said quietly. “Do you understand that? People spend their whole lives looking for what you had with her.”
Every word felt like a blade sliding deeper into Jimin’s chest.
“I know.”
“No,” Taehyung said sharply. “I don’t think you do.”
Jimin pressed a trembling hand over his mouth as he leaned against his desk, eyes burning.
“I do,” he whispered hoarsely. “I know exactly what I destroyed.”
Taehyung glanced back toward the front door, hearing faint crying from outside, he watched his wife guide you inside and into the kitchen, helping you to calm down. He lowered his tone before speaking again.
His expression darkened immediately.
“She can barely breathe right now.”
The silence on the other end was immediate.
Then:
A broken sound.
Like Jimin physically reacted to the sentence.
Taehyung continued before his anger truly got the better of him.
“She was here earlier today, you know.”
Jimin froze.
“She was happy,” Taehyung said quietly. “The happiest I’ve seen her in months.”
Jimin’s stomach dropped violently.
“She showed us the baby socks. Everyone is excited for you two. Jin hyung and his wife has already started cooking meals for fucking baby growth and Jungkook is already looking for a bigger penthouse cause he already planned out date nights for you two and plans on keeping the baby..”
That did it.
Jimin sank down into his chair like his body suddenly gave out beneath him, one hand gripping the edge of the steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white.
“Oh God…”
His voice cracked completely.
Taehyung finally let some of his anger slip through.
“You made her happiest day become something she’ll never forget for the worst reason possible.”
Jimin couldn’t speak.
Could barely breathe.
All he could picture was you standing there holding that stupid little white box while he—
He squeezed his eyes shut violently.
“I know,” he whispered again, sounding destroyed. “I know.”
Taehyung’s voice lowered dangerously.
“If you come here acting defensive, I’ll throw you back out the door myself.”
“I’m not defensive,” Jimin said immediately. “I just—I need to see my wife.”
The desperation in his voice was ugly now. Barely controlled.
Taehyung exhaled slowly through his nose.
“She doesn’t want to see you right now.”
Jimin looked physically ill.
“Please,” he whispered. “Please, Tae.”
“Remember my words, Hyung…” Taehyung started,
“If you come defensively, I will throw you out.”
Taehyung lowered the phone slowly, his jaw still tight with restrained anger before slipping the device into his pocket.
His wife looked at him expectantly from beside you, silently asking the question neither of you wanted answered.
“He’s coming,” Taehyung said flatly. “He’s not letting up,”
Your eyes squeezed shut immediately.
Of course he was.
Jimin was many things—overbearing, possessive, obsessive when it came to you—but one thing he would never do was let you disappear after something like this.
Especially not now.
You hated that the one thing you loved the most about him was now turning into a nightmare.
Your stomach twisted painfully.
“Hey,” your friend whispered softly, immediately crouching in front of you again. “Come inside the kitchen, let’s get warm? You’re freezing.”
Only then did you realize how cold your hands had become.
You nodded weakly.
The second you stepped inside the house, warmth wrapped around you, but it did nothing to stop the violent shaking in your body. Your friend kept one arm looped around you carefully, guiding you toward the kitchen while Taehyung lingered behind for a moment, rubbing a tired hand down his face.
The kitchen lights felt too bright.
Too normal.
You hated it.
The world shouldn’t still be moving right now.
Your friend sat you carefully at the kitchen island before immediately reaching for a glass.
“Water first,” she said gently, slipping into a comforting routine. “Then I’m making tea.”
“I can make it while you sit with Yn…” Taehyung said softly as he placed a soft hand to the middle of his wife's back to move behind her, starting the tea.
You stared blankly at the marble countertop.
“I don’t want anything right now...”
“I know,” she whispered. “But you need something in your system.”
The mention of your condition made your chest tighten all over again.
Pregnant.
You were pregnant.
A fresh wave of nausea rolled through your stomach so violently you nearly doubled over.
“Oh God—”
Your friend immediately rushed toward you.
“Hey, hey—breathe for me.”
You pressed a trembling hand against your mouth as tears filled your eyes all over again.
“I can still hear her,” you whispered brokenly.
The room went quiet. Taehyung cringed at the sentence. He couldn’t even imagine Jimin doing something like that, not to you. Not the way Jimin always spoke about you in their quiet time together.
Your friend’s face crumpled instantly.
“She sounded—” Your voice cracked painfully. “She sounded comfortable there.”
That sentence shattered the room.
Because that was the real horror, wasn’t it?
Not just that Jimin cheated.
But it didn’t look unfamiliar.
Your friend moved beside you instantly, gripping your hand tightly.
“Don’t do that to yourself,” she said firmly.
“But what if it wasn’t the first time?” you whispered.
The words finally escaped.
The fear that had been growing quietly in the back of your mind ever since you left the penthouse.
Your breathing became uneven again.
“What if I just never noticed?”
Your friend’s expression hardened immediately but Taehyung spoke first.
“Listen to me carefully,” he said softly but firmly, forcing your eyes toward his. “What he did tonight is on him. Not you. Don’t start tearing yourself apart trying to make sense of someone else’s awful decision.”
Fresh tears slipped down your cheeks.
“I was so happy today,” you whispered shakily. “I was so happy…”
The tiny socks flashed in your mind again.
Jimin’s smile you’d imagined.
The future you thought you were walking toward.
Gone.
Or maybe not gone.
But broken.
Your friend’s eyes filled with tears at your expression before she wrapped her arms around you again carefully.
“You don’t have to figure anything out tonight,” she whispered against your hair. “Okay? Just breathe. One thing at a time.”
But before you could respond—
Headlights flashed across the kitchen windows.
The entire room went still.
Taehyung looked toward the front of the house immediately while your body locked up completely.
And then—
A car door slammed outside.

You met Jimin when you were 23, at the highlight of his career. The same night you broke off your engagement to a man that couldn’t even remember your favorite color.
You thought you would be sad but you were quite the opposite. You were having the time of your life. You and your friends were lighting up the dance floor. Drinks were flowing and the music was rolling. There was no bad thought that came to your mind. You felt…free.
You were bouncing between your friends and strangers when you felt eyes burning the back of your head from the VIP section.
Park Jimin, also 23 then—intoxicating and mysterious. It didn’t take long from the moment your eyes connected for him to make his move. He showered you in a luxury that you didn’t know before. Dates on private islands, daily lunch dates and shopping trips. He once took you to Paris just because you were thinking about having pasta for dinner. He was the perfect example of how you felt a man should court you or any woman for that matter.
Within a month, despite your friends and families comments, you were married.
Crazy. Insane even but on the rare occasion, it worked.
It was a whirlwind, the honeymoon phase that never ended. It felt like it never would.
You had it all.
A beautiful life, amazing friends, a handsome husband that was crazy about you. The only thing you both wanted desperately was a child. Jimin would stay up at night, laying on your chest with his hand sprawled on your flat stomach, thinking about how beautiful you would be carrying his child, the one thing he wanted that money couldn’t buy.
He became obsessed.
This wasn't an empty obsession. This wasn’t a “Once the baby gets here, you’re going to wish you never had kids.” type of thing.
You and Jimin are certain that this is what you wanted. You talked about it all the time with your friends. Jimin probably talked about more than you.
He spent countless hours looking up things that you both could do to conceive. He made you put your legs against the wall one time after a long night of making love, there was even a drink that you both drank to ‘enhance’ your chances of conceiving.
But nothing you did helped.
Month after month, the negative tests started to pile up.
Every disappointment hurt worse than the last but Jimin stayed hopeful.
“It’s not our turn yet but soon my love. Soon.” he would say, holding you from being, hiding his face in your neck, seeking comfort from your scent and closeness. “We’re going to be the world’s best parents.”
But today? Today is different.
~~~~~
The bathroom is quiet. Too quiet.
Morning light filters through the large windows that hang behind the large bath, looking out at the busy city of Seoul below you, pale and soft, barely touching the white tile walls. You sit on the edge of the bathtub, elbows resting on your knees, the small plastic test clutched loosely in your hands.
You almost didn’t take it.
After so many months—so many quiet disappointments—you’d stopped expecting anything different. The routine had become painfully familiar: wake up, take the test, hold your breath… then tuck another negative result into the back of your mind like it never mattered, but Jimin’s hope is the only reason why you took the test today.
You wanted to be a mother but you had to admit the dream died each time you took a negative test. You were just a few tests away from your dream hitting the back burner.
So when the timer on your phone goes off, you don’t rush.
You stare at the floor for a moment longer, gathering yourself the way you always do. Preparing for the same hollow feeling.
A small part of you wished that you had waited for Jimin to return home before taking it but that ship has sailed.
“Okay,” you whisper softly to no one. “Whatever happens, happens.”
Your fingers tighten slightly around the test before you lift it.
And then you freeze.
Your eyes scan the result once.
Twice.
Three times.
Your heart doesn’t react right away—your mind refuses to catch up.
“…No.”
The word leaves your lips as a quiet breath, barely audible.
You lean forward, squinting at the window then the beautiful fixtures like maybe the light is wrong when that’s the furthest from the truth in this beautiful penthouse you and Jimin live in. Maybe you're reading it wrong. Your hands fumble slightly as you reach for the instruction pamphlet sitting on the counter, unfolding it with shaky fingers.
Two lines.
Two lines means—
You look back at the test.
The second line is faint, but it’s there. Clear enough that you can’t pretend it isn’t.
Your chest tightens suddenly.
“No… no, that—that’s not right–”
Your voice breaks off as your breath catches.
Your heart starts beating faster now, a nervous rhythm thudding against your ribs. You flip the test over in your hands, then back again, as if the answer might somehow change if you look at it from another angle.
It doesn’t.
The line is still there.
Your fingers start trembling.
“After all this time…?”
The words come out as a whisper, fragile and uncertain.
You stand up too quickly, pacing the small bathroom once, your thoughts spinning.
“Take another one, this one has to be wrong..”
Instinctively, you grab another test from the box under the sink, the last one left, and take it with rushed, clumsy movements.
Then you sit again.
Waiting feels impossible this time. You could hardly hold your composure.
Your leg bounces, your fingers twisting together while the seconds drag by. Your eyes keep drifting back to the first test sitting on the counter like it might disappear if you stop watching it.
Months of memories crowd your mind.
All the negative tests.
All the hopeful mornings that ended in quiet disappointment. All the nights cuddling Jimin and comforting one another may have not been…for nothing?
The times you told yourself not to get your hopes up.
The timer goes off again.
Your stomach flips instantly making you nauseous.
Slowly—almost fearfully—you reach for the second test.
Your hands shake so badly you almost drop it.
You look down.
And there it is.
Two lines.
Clearer this time.
Both lines, bold and pink. In your face.
For a moment, the world goes completely silent.
Your breath leaves you in a shaky exhale as your knees suddenly give out, and you sink down onto the cool bathroom floor without thinking. The tests remain clutched tightly in your hands while you stare at them like they’re something fragile… something unreal.
“I…”
Your throat tightens.
A laugh escapes you first—soft, disbelieving, almost breathless.
Then suddenly your vision blurs.
Tears spill down your cheeks before you can stop them.
“Oh my god…thank you, God”
Your voice cracks as the words finally sink in.
You press a hand over your mouth, shoulders shaking as the reality crashes into you all at once. All the months of trying, hoping, hurting—it all pours out in the form of quiet, overwhelmed sobs.
Your other hand curls protectively around your stomach without you even realizing it.
“Please,” you whisper through the tears, your voice trembling.
“Please stay. Don’t leave us this time..”
The room is still silent, but your heart feels louder than everything.
You sit there on the bathroom floor for a long time, clutching the tests like proof that this moment is real.
Every few seconds your eyes flick back down just to make sure.
Just to see those two lines again.
And again.
And again.
Because after so many times seeing only one… you’re still afraid to believe it.
So almost instantly, you scheduled an appointment, just to be sure as if two tests weren’t enough.
It’s taking everything out of you not to run and tell Jimin but you vowed to make this special for him too. This was taking a toll on him just as much as it was you. You needed to make sure first before opening up to him…you couldn’t face it if it was a misread or false alarm.
You had your mind set. As soon as you got the confirmation from the doctors, you were going to set up something special for your husband when he comes home from his trip to Japan.
~~~~~~~~~
The doctor’s office smells faintly of antiseptic and lavender air freshener.
You’ve been staring at the same spot on the wall for the last five minutes—the framed photo of a newborn wrapped in a pink blanket. The baby’s tiny hand is curled around someone’s finger.
Your leg bounces uncontrollably.
You press your palms together in your lap to stop it, but the nervous energy refuses to settle. Your heart has been racing since the nurse took the blood sample.
It feels ridiculous, almost.
You already saw the tests. Two of them.
But after everything… you needed someone to tell you it was real.
The door opens.
Your head lifts immediately.
The doctor steps in with a small tablet and a small packet in hand, offering you a gentle smile as they sit down on the rolling stool across from you.
You try to read their expression.
You’ve become good at that over the months—searching faces for hints before the words come.
Your fingers twist together.
“Well,” the doctor says softly, glancing at the screen for a moment.
Your stomach drops.
Your heart pounds so loudly you’re sure they can hear it.
“Your results came back.”
Your throat tightens.
You nod quickly, unable to trust your voice.
The doctor looks back up at you.
And smiles.
“The test is positive. Congratulations.”
For a moment… nothing happens.
The words float in the air between you, simple and clear.
Positive.
Congratulations.
Your brain doesn’t catch up right away.
“…I am?” you ask quietly before you can stop yourself.
Your voice sounds small. Fragile.
The doctor’s smile widens a little.
“Yes,” they say gently. “You’re pregnant.”
The room goes completely silent.
Your chest rises with a shaky breath as the meaning finally settles in.
Pregnant.
Not maybe.
Not hopefully.
Not another faint line on a plastic test you’re afraid to trust.
Real.
Your vision blurs suddenly.
“Oh…”
The sound escapes you like the air has been knocked from your lungs.
You press a hand over your mouth as tears immediately fill your eyes.
Your shoulders shake once, twice, before a breathless laugh slips out with the tears.
“I—sorry,” you say quickly, wiping your face even though the tears keep coming. “I just…”
Your voice cracks.
“We’ve been trying for so long. I kind of wish he was here with me to hear this good news. He’s so excited to become a father.”
The doctor’s expression softens with understanding.
“That makes this moment even more special.”
Your hand slowly drifts down to your stomach without thinking.
It’s still the same.
Nothing feels different.
But suddenly your mind can’t stop repeating the same thought.
There’s a baby there.
Your baby.
You swallow hard.
“Everything looks okay… right?” you ask, the fear creeping back in despite the joy.
The doctor nods reassuringly.
“So far, everything looks exactly as it should.”
The tension you didn’t realize you were holding finally releases.
Your shoulders drop slightly as another quiet breath escapes you.
Relief floods through you so suddenly it almost makes you dizzy.
“Thank you,” you whisper.
The words feel too small for what you mean.
You thank them again before the appointment ends, clutching the printed paperwork and appointment card like they’re precious.
Because they are.
The moment you step outside the clinic, the cool air hits your face.
And suddenly it feels real all over again.
You sit in the driver’s seat of your car for a long moment, staring down at the small envelope the nurse handed you.
Inside is the confirmation paperwork.
Proof.
Your fingers rest against your stomach again.
“Hi,” you whisper softly, almost shyly.
The word makes you laugh quietly to yourself.
You wipe the last of your tears before starting the car.
There’s someone else who needs to know.
But not like this.
Not rushed.
Not through a phone call filled with shaky breathing.
Jimin deserves something special.
After everything you’ve both been through… he deserves a moment he’ll never forget.
Later that afternoon, your kitchen table is covered in small things.
A tiny white box.
Soft tissue paper.
And the smallest pair of baby socks you could find at the store.
They’re impossibly tiny. Seeing them in the store for the first time, you thought they were fake. Fighting the urge to buy every single thing available.
You hold them between your fingers, your chest tightening as emotion creeps up again.
“You’re going to be a dad,” you whisper quietly, imagining Jimin’s face when he realizes.
Your heart flutters at the thought.
You gently place the socks inside the box.
Then you add the pregnancy test—the second one you took that morning—and fold the doctor’s confirmation paper neatly beneath it.
For a moment, you just stare at it.
Your hands hover over the lid.
You suddenly feel nervous all over again.
What if he cries?
What if he doesn’t believe it at first?
What if he just stares the way you did?
A smile slowly spreads across your face.
You close the lid carefully.
Then tie a soft ribbon around the box.
By the time you place it on the table, your heart is beating just as fast as it did in the doctor’s office.
Except this time…
It’s excitement.
You glance toward the door, imagining the moment Jimin walks in.
Imagining the confusion on his face when you hand him the box.
Imagining the exact second it clicks.
Your hand drifts to your stomach again.
And this time, your smile is soft and full of wonder.
“Just wait until he finds out.”
But you’ll never see his reaction…
Because the night you were going to tell him, you heard something that made your stomach churn.
You walked in after a long day of celebrating with your friends when you noticed the small box still sitting on the table. You frowned softly as you walked over to pick it up.
“Maybe he was too tired to notice it and just wanted to head to bed.” you mumbled to yourself. You headed up the stairs when you heard faint voices that sounded like Jimin’s. Your heart began to race as you were seconds away from telling your husband that after almost a year of failed attempts, you were finally pregnant.
But when you opened the door…your heart almost stopped beating…
Jimin was looking up at a woman that you had never seen before with the biggest smile on his face. She was straddling his lap, moaning his name as her eyes closed in pleasure. You wanted to scream, you wanted to cry but neither came out.
You dropped the little white box, loud enough to make them stop. Jimin’s eyes landed on your back as you fled the room. Jimin didn’t waste any time. He threw off the woman, quickly becoming a forgotten object as he jumped out of bed.
“Baby! B-babe! Wait!”
But you didn’t.
Your heart hammered against your chest as you prayed you were wrong. That you hadn’t walked into your husband having sex with another woman. His voice chased you down the hall, you didn’t dare look back. You just threw yourself into your car, still warm from earlier. You sped towards your friend’s place, she only lived a few minutes away.
Jimin didn’t catch you in time. Breathless, he returned to the bedroom, tripping over the white box with its contents scattered across the floor. He frowned softly as he crouched down to get a closer look.
“What…wh-what is this?” he asked no one as he took the paperwork into his hands followed by the little tiny socks. “She’s…she’s pregnant? No…no no no no”
The realization hit him like a physical blow, making him sick to his stomach. He was seconds from throwing up but by the grace of God he was able to hold it back. Behind him, the woman appears with a pout. She leans down and kisses his temple softly, disregarding his troubled state.
“Do you need me, baby?” she asked, trailing her finger down his arm. He pushed her off, no longer caring about her wellbeing as all he could think about was finding you.
“Leave…you have no purpose anymore.”
She tried to protest, they always did but Jimin didn’t care he ignored her, retreating to his study to retrieve his phone. He called you non-stop but you refused to answer. Maybe you were still driving, you never answered the phone when you were driving, it was a safety measure that you always took. He’d imagine that you’d be even more protective since you were carrying his kid. He stared at his screen before his shaky hands began to type.
“Princess, I’m sorry…I’m so sorry. Please come back. Please let me explain everything.”
You sat outside of your friend’s house. You made no attempts to call her or text her. You didn’t even know what to say. Just a few hours ago you were here celebrating your positive pregnancy test and now you are back about to tell her that you found Jimin cheating on you.
You couldn’t stop crying despite telling yourself that you needed to calm down for the baby.
“You have to get it together…for the baby..”
The baby you and your husband prayed so hard for.
The baby Jimin cried for.
The baby you cried for.
You looked down at your phone with teary eyes before finally texting back.
“How could you do something like that to me? I gave you all of me…everything..and you go and cheat on me? I never want to see you again..”
Jimin’s chest tightened as he read your message, his jaw clenching so hard it ached. He ran his fingers through his disheveled hair. The words “I never want to see you again” burned into his retinas, replaying over and over in his mind.
He immediately typed back, his fingers trembling against the screen. There was no way on Earth he was going to lose his wife and child all in one night.
“She meant nothing, nothing at all yn. It meant nothing. NOTHING. You are the love of my life and you are carrying my beautiful child. I love you. I don’t want this for us. I know there’s nothing I can say right now that won’t sound disgusting after what I did… but please don’t shut me out.”
He hit send as he kicked his desk angrily before pacing his study like a caged animal, all the awards and trophies he had there rattling. Jimin couldn’t wait for you to respond, he texted you again.
“I’m coming to get you. We’re going to talk face to face about this, not behind a screen. You can’t leave me, not now, not ever.”
His possessiveness bled through every word, the entitlement he would sometimes carry twisted into something more desperate, fear. Fear of losing the one thing in this entire world that made him happy without too many expectations, the one thing he cared more about than the life he had built.
He grabbed his car keys and jacket, his hooded dark eyes blazing with determination and barely contained emotion, rage, not at you but at himself for letting this spiral out of control.

“Have a good day, sweetheart.”
Namjoon said and kissed your forehead. You smiled at him. It was a calm Saturday morning. All you wanted was to cuddle up to your new fiancé, watch a few movies and eat snacks. But Namjoon was called into work for an emergency, so it looked like you would be watching and eating alone.
“Do you have to leave?”
You pouted at him as he started putting on his shoes. He smiled at you and kissed you softly on the lips, cupping your face.
“I really don’t want to.”
You nodded understandingly. He turned around to reach for his jacket, but found that the jacket he usually wore wasn’t were it was supposed to be. He reached for another one.
“By the way, do you think you can stop by Jungkooks place today? I left my jacket there last week and I need it for tonight.”
You looked at him, not sure what to answer. It was a year since the incident at the resort. But you still felt uncomfortable around Jungkook sometimes. Especially when you were alone with him.
“Baby, it’s been a year.”
“I know.”
You answered quickly, wiping your tired face with your hands.
“And he apologised. You were the one that told me to forgive him.”
You bit your lip, zoning out and focusing on the floor instead of replying.
“It’s fine, if you don’t want to you don’t have to. I’ll wear another coat tonight.”
He reassured you, before kissing your forehead yet again and opening the door.
“I’ll see you tonight, love you.”
He said before stepping outside and closing the door. You stood there for a few seconds. Still zoned out. Why were you so afraid of Jungkook? Like Namjoon said, he apologised. He told you he would never do it again. He would still be the same Jungkook you remembered from middle school. Right?
“I’m so sorry, y/n! Please- I don’t know what came over me!”
Jungkook was on the floor crying his eyes out, bowing at your feet. You had just told the guys what he had done after they had overheard parts of the conversation. Namjoon did not take it lightly, grabbing Jungkook and pushing him against the wall. He had screamed in his face, told him to say sorry to you, and to never get near you again. Once that was over Jungkook fell to his feet, and now he was on the floor, crying and begging.
“Please forgive me! I’m so stupid! I never meant for this to happen!”
You looked down at him. Still in only his wet bathing shorts. You sighed.
“Get up, Jungkook.”
You told him, and he finally looked up at you. His eyes were red and his eyelashes had started sticking together from all the tears. But he did listen, and he got up.
“Do you mind giving us some privacy?”
You asked kindly, and looked over at the three guys standing by the door. All were still in shock. Namjoon, who was standing in front of them with his arms crossed, looked back at them with a strict look. The guys trembled and walked out of the room, shutting the door behind them.
“Come here.”
You said to Jungkook and opened your arms with a towel. He let you drape him in it, covering up his naked torso. You made him sit down on the bed, trying to calm him down.
“I forgive you, ok?”
“I don’t!”
Namjoon interrupted with his deep voice. You looked over at him.
“Namjoon please, he’s crying his eyes out.”
You told your boyfriend strictly.
“I’m sorry, Namjoon. You know I would never do anything to ruin our friendship. But I was still stupid enough to do so.”
He bowed his head down, starting to cry even more. You sat down on the bed beside him.
“I promise this will be in the past. We can continue our friendship like this never happened, ok?”
His eyes lit up. How great.
You were outside Jungkooks apartment. You decided that this was the time you healed your relationship with him. You couldn’t keep running away from it. Either you followed your promise, or you would have to cut him out completely. One last chance. You rang his doorbell. It took a few seconds before his voice came through the speakers.
“Who is it?”
You turned towards the voice and went up to the camera.
“It’s me.”
You said and went really close to the little camera, trying to joke with him like the two of you always did. He didn’t laugh, he sounded surprised instead. But not in a good way.
“Y/n?! What are you doing here?”
He asked shocked. You took a step back.
“Can you just let me in? It’s raining!”
“Give me a second!”
Jungkook wasn’t expecting you. He wasn’t expecting anyone, but definitely not you. He knew what happened at the resort a year ago made you question him, even if you told him it was ok. So when you asked to come in he quickly found his abandoned sweatpants on the floor. He had definitely not been jerking off to your Instagram just minutes before you were outside his door. He placed the dishes hurriedly in the sink to hide them, before he ran over to the door and pressed the button. He straightened the pillows on the sofa while waiting for you to reach his apartment. A knock at the door. He combed his fingers through his hair before taking a deep breath.
“Hi!”
You went in for a hug, and he was honestly caught off guard. Something inside him felt like you hated him since the incident. He at least hated himself for revealing everything to you so quickly. If he could’ve just taken you out for a nice dinner and told you about his feelings in a romantic way, you would probably be his fiancé now, not Namjoons.
“Y/n, it’s nice to see you again.”
He said once you broke off the short hug, that he honestly wanted to last forever. You smelled so good, and only you could manage to look good in yoga pants and a hoodie. Namjoon’s hoodie he noted. You would look even better in his own.
“I brought you an iced americano.”
You said and handed him the drink. You were always so considerate.
“Such an angel.”
You laughed awkwardly at his statement and he mentally cursed himself.
“I just came to get Namjoon’s jacket. He said he left it here a week ago.”
He knew exactly what jacket you were talking about, but he gave you a puzzled look regardless.
“I don’t remember seeing a jacket.”
He told you as if he was completely clueless.
“Why don’t you come in? I’ll look for it after I’ve had the americano.”
You smiled at him and started removing your shoes.
“Great!”
The two of you sat down on his sofa. You took a sip of your iced tea before placing it on the table.
“So, why didn’t Namjoon come for his own jacket? Lazy move to send his own girlfriend for the job.”
He laughed. You laughed back before crossing your legs and getting more comfortable.
“Job emergency I’m afraid. He won’t be home until 8.”
He could tell it upset you.
“I’m more than just his girlfriend now you know.”
The disappointment on your face turned into giddiness as you looked at your hand, carrying a gorgeous ring.
“As his fiancé I’ll have to take the shit jobs as well.”
You said and laughed. You looked so good, Jungkook couldn’t help but look at you. It’s like he fell in love all over again every time you laughed.
“Wow, thanks y/n.”
He said sarcastically. You laughed even more.
“Let me see it.”
You stretched your arm towards him, letting him take your hand in his to inspect the expensive ring.
“Damn, that’s a nice ring.”
He pretended to inspect it for just a second longer. He liked the feeling of your soft hand in his.
“Well since you won’t be busy until 8, why don’t you stay here for a while? We can play video games and order some food later. Like back in the day.”
He saw a flash of doubt in your eyes. Was he too forward too soon? He was expecting a no, he was ready to go back to his room and jerk off to you yet again.
“Sure.”
You said and shrugged.
“But only if you cook me something. I’ve missed your food so much.”
He couldn’t help but smile.
“I don’t understand how you do it? Everything you make is so good!”
You said and closed your eyes letting out a small satisfied moan. He let out a small laugh, adjusting his sweatpants after he felt them get tighter at your praise.
“What your fiancé can’t cook for you?”
He smirked. He knew Namjoon couldn’t cook, he just said it to tease you. And with the tilt of your head and upset eyes he knew he succeeded.
“Namjoon has many talents, cooking is not one of them.”
You laughed a little at your comment before taking another spoonful.
“If you were my fiancé I would’ve cooked for you every day.”
He tested the waters. Making sure to mumble, so that maybe you couldn’t even hear his remark. But you did. Of course you did. You were always so bright.
“Well you’re not.”
You answered bluntly. Jungkook felt his heart shatter at your words. He felt his blood boil. He made you dinner, how about a little gratitude?
“Could be.”
He quickly spit back, looking you deep in the eyes. You shook your head.
“We both know that’s not going to happen.”
Your eyes didn’t back down, winning his little game as he broke the eye contact and grabbed your plate.
“Why don’t we play Mario kart? Still think you can beat me?”
He said while washing the dishes. He knew he couldn’t get too upset with you, cause then you’d leave. And maybe never come back.
“We both know you’re the one that needs to beat me. I win ever single time.”
He looked back at you, a competitive smile plastered on your face.
“You won’t win this time.”
Time passed, and you had successfully beaten him five times. You jumped up from the sofa once you saw the results, cheering loudly at your victory.
“Who won? Huh? Tell me, Jungkook!”
You teased him, as you sat back down again. He rolled his eyes.
“I’m just letting you win so you won’t feel bad.”
He said as he started looking through the maps for the next round. You didn’t answer him, in fact you went completely quiet. He looked over at you. You were focused on your phone, your nails tapping against the screen as you were texting.
“Which map do you want to do next?”
He asked a little louder, slightly annoyed that your attention wasn’t on him. You didn’t look up from your phone.
“Hmm.”
Was the only answer you gave him. He put his controller down on the table and took a sip from his glass of wine. He was clearly upset now that you were ignoring him. He looked back at you.
“Who are you texting?”
He asked in almost a sour tone. You looked briefly up at him, before looking back down at your phone.
“Just my mom.”
Relief washed over his body, thankfully you weren’t texting your fiancé. Of course he would let you text her. He would love your parents as his in-laws.
“Let’s play.”
He said playfully before stealing your phone out of your hands. You looked confused at him, before you understood what he did.
“Jungkook, give it back!”
You laughed as your arms stretched out for your phone. He laughed back as he moved his arm further away.
“Then get it.”
You shook your head but crawled closer to him, tickling his side. He moved his upper body even further away from you. You sighed, but continued the fight. Unconsciously placing one of your hands on his thigh for support, as you stretched out over him. Even if you didn’t notice, he noticed. He moved his hand even further away, wanting to see if you would touch him more.
“Oh my god, just give me the phone!”
And within a second you were basically straddling his lap. Your hand got ahold of your phone, and you were about to retreat. But Jungkook was quicker. In the heat of the moment, he let go of the phone and used both his hands to push you down into his crotch. A small hiss escaped his mouth as he felt your heat touch his clothed dick.
“What are you doing?”
You asked him, still with a playful tone as if you thought it was an accident. Your hand found his that was tightly holding your hips as if they would run away if he let go. He knew you might run away if he let you go now.
“Jungkook, let go of me.”
The playfulness in your tone had started to fade. You started wiggling, trying to get out of his grasp. But stopped quickly once a moan escaped his lips.
“What the fuck!”
He didn’t know what to do, he had done it again and you were about to leave yet again.
“I won’t let you go, y/n! Not this time.”
You jumped as he rapidly stood up. His strong arms lifted you swiftly over his shoulder like you weighed nothing. It took a few seconds for you to comprehend what he was saying, but you quickly started to protest when you caught up.
“Let me down!”
You banged your fists against his large back. Wiggling the best you could. It was starting to freak you out that he seemed so serious, and that he was carrying you towards his bedroom.
“Jungkook, seriously! It’s not funny anymore.”
You said as he opened the door to his bedroom. It took maximum two seconds for him to throw you harshly down onto his bed. The bed creaked loudly at the impact.
“It was never a joke, y/n. I’m sick of pretending like I don’t fucking need you to be my girl!”
The last time you saw him this upset was at the resort.
“Look, I’m really not in the mood to argue with you right now.”
You started scooting towards the end of the bed. When Jungkook moved quickly towards the door you stopped in confusion.
“I’m not letting you leave.”
Your blood ran cold as you realised you could not be saved by Namjoon anymore. You didn’t tell him, or anyone for that matter, that you were going to Jungkook’s. Your breathing got heavier by the second as it dawned on you. You were fucked.
“You’re not leaving here until you understand that we’re meant for each other!”
He raised his voice even more now. Yelling at you in a way that made you look away. He scared you.
“I- I can’t fucking stand seeing you with him anymore. I’m sorry, y/n but I hate Namjoon for stealing you away from me. I hate that he made this so complicated. We were always meant to be. I’m sorry-“
“It’s ok, Jungkook. No need to get upset.”
You tried to calm him. Your fear speaking for you. His eyes met yours.
“Really?”
He asked, his eyes were glossy. You swallowed thickly, but nodded.
“It’s ok.”
Was all you could mutter. You practically jumped out of your skin as he crawled onto the bed. Your entire body stiffened as he sat down beside you. His arm swung around you like it belonged there. Uncomfortable silence filled the room for a beat.
“So we can be together now? You and me? Is that what you’re saying?”
He pulled you closer and closer, forcing you to lean into him. You looked down at the bed, simply not daring to answer the question truthfully. It didn’t help when you noticed the very visible tent in his grey sweatpants. You had to run.
“Of course.”
You managed to say, using all your willpower to look up at him and smile.
“I just really have to pee, ok?”
The panic in your voice was almost nowhere to be heard. You tried moving off the bed, but his grip was too strong.
“You’re being honest, right?”
He asked. You nodded yet again. Your focus turned to your nails. You had to look away from either his face or his hard on.
“Prove it.”
He almost whispered in your ear.
“Kiss me.”
His words were simple, but enough to send shivers down your spine.
“I’m sorry, I really have to-“
He grabbed your face and crashed his lips onto yours. You realised that you had no other choice but to kiss back passionately, and so you did. You placed your hand on his chest and deepened the kiss. Putting on your best performance. He moaned into the kiss. Finally he thought to himself. You tried pulling away, but were only met with a hand at the back of your head. Your heart was beating out of your chest for all the wrong reasons. You needed to convince him to let you leave the room. And with that you dreaded slowly moving your hands down his torso. Another moan escaped his lips when you placed a firm hand over his erection. That was the signal for his hands to start roaming as well, and once he tried to push you over his lap you finally got to pull away. You had never considered yourself an actress, but in that moment every instinct in your body told you to give the best performance of your life.
“I really want to fuck you, kookie.”
You whispered to him seductively. He started nodding hysterically.
“Do it, please just do it baby!”
You pouted at him.
“I just really have to go first. I won’t be able to enjoy our first time fully if I can’t use the toilet first.”
He pushed a strand of hair out of your face and smiled warmly towards you. To an outsider the two of you looked like nothing but lovers.
“Be quick, I want you so bad.”
You smiled and voluntarily pecked him on the lips to lay it on thick. You swayed your hips as you walked towards the door.
“Leave the bedroom door open.”
He said behind you. His lovey-dovey voice was suddenly really strict. He could see the bathroom door from the bed, he didn’t completely trust you. But you did as he said. Your heart was beating fast as you realised you could reach the front door if you just ran for it. And so you did.
“Y/n!”
An infuriated voice yelled after you. You heard his heavy footsteps hit the floor, sprinting closer. But you didn’t look back, you couldn’t do that now.
“You fucking bitch!”
A wave of relief washed over you as you reached for the door handle. You managed to pull it down and open it slightly before two large arms wrapped around you, slamming you against the door. You were able to reach the door, but not able to step outside the door.
“You fucking liar! You lied to me!”
He was beyond pissed off now. There was no calming him now, you had never seen him like this.
“I showed you my love and you just fucking used it to get away from me.”
He pressed you further and further against the cold door.
“I’ll show you y/n. I’ll fucking show you that you belong to me and me only. You’re my girl!”

Idol Yoongi x Best Friend Reader
Warnings: None
Word Count: 8,347
Here it is and I really hope it doesn’t disappoint!
You were curled up on the leather couch in Yoongi’s studio, legs tucked under you, hoodie sleeves pulled halfway over your hands, and a forgotten book in your lap. He was at his desk, spinning lazily in his chair while some melody looped in the background. It was one of those nights you two fell into without planning, pizza boxes, convenient store donuts, and the kind of comfortable quiet that only existed between people who were tightly woven into each other’s lives. This had been the normal for you two since you became close friends many years ago.
You were scrolling on your phone when he spoke.
“Hey.”
“Hm?”
“Go out with me.”, he asked, nervously fidgeting with a string hanging off of his t-shirt.
You snorted so hard you almost dropped your phone, “Yeah, okay, grandpa. I think it’s getting past your bedtime. You’re getting delusional.”
He didn’t laugh. He didn’t say something smart back in response. He just stared at you, dark eyes steady, mouth soft, “Y/N…I’m serious.”
And you…laughed again. Because what else were you supposed to do? Yoongi was a hot, wealthy, successful, globally-adored idol who dated other beautiful, talented idols and models with cheekbones sharp enough to cut glass. Meanwhile, saw yourself as average looking on your best days and you taught English to tiny humans who wiped their hands, sticky with mystery substances, on your pants to make enough money to just barely survive. You lived in completely different universes.
“You’re adorable.”, you said, waving him off, “But no you’re not. You don’t like me like that.”
His jaw flexed, “I do.”
“Sure.”, you said, giving him a bless your delusional little heart look, “Are you drunk?Let me smell your coffee cup. I thought we agreed not to drink tonight.”
He swiveled toward you, pushing himself up from the chair, “Y/N, I’m not drunk.” Then he pointed a finger at you, annoyed, determined, cute, “Within a year, I’m going to get you to believe me. And when you do?”, he paused, smirking, “You’re going to be my girlfriend.”
“Right.”, you snorted, “Good luck with that.”
And so began, The Year of Yoongi.
—You woke up to someone pounding on your door like they were being chased.
When you opened it, hair a mess, wearing last night’s oversized dress shirt that definitely didn’t pass for pajamas, you found Yoongi standing there with two coffees and the most suspiciously innocent look you’d ever seen on him. Behind him, the hallway was still dark. Birds weren’t even awake.
“Morning Sunshine.”, he said, sounding way too cheerful for someone whose sleep cycle was basically a cryptid.
“Yoongi.”, you croaked, “It’s seven. As in seven a.m. As in the sun hasn’t even fully committed to being alive yet. Why are you here?”
He offered you the coffee like a peace treaty, “Because this is the first month I start convincing you.”
You blinked at him, “Convincing me of…?”
“Go out with me.”, he said immediately.
You nearly dropped the drink.
“Oh my god.”, you muttered, stepping aside to let him shuffle into your apartment, “You’re really doubling down on that whole ‘I really like you’ bit.”
He set his coffee on your counter and looked directly at you, “It’s not a bit Y/N.”
You took a long, steadying sip of your drink. It was perfect, your exact order, just the way you liked it. Of course he got it right.
“Okay, so let me get this straight. You woke up early, bought coffee, came to my apartment, and are now demanding I date you.”, you questioned.
His mouth lifted in a tiny smirk, “Pretty much. And…I brought banana nut muffins.”
You groaned into your hands, “Yoongi, this is…this is adorable, but you know I don’t believe you. You’re…you. And I’m just…me.”
He only shrugged and took a sip of his drink and handed you a muffin, “I’ve got eleven more months.”, he said casually, “I’m not worried.”
You snatched the muffin out of his hand and took a large bite to occupy your mouth before you could say something you’d regret.
He smirked, smug as hell.
And that was Month 1.
—You didn’t even know he was going live that night.
You were sprawled on your couch grading vocabulary quizzes from your third graders, when your phone started exploding.
Your best friend (non-Yoongi) group chat was blowing up so loudly your notifications practically vibrated the couch into another room.
Did you see??
OMG OMG OMG
HE MEANT YOU, RIGHT??
RIGHT???
Y/N???!!! Hello!!!!!
Everyone has always said it would happen!!
Then came the link.
You clicked it…and there he was.
Yoongi, sitting in his studio chair, hair messy, dim lighting soft on his face.
He was reading comments, doing that stoic-soft half smile he never admitted he practiced in the mirror.
And then you heard it.
“I don’t have a girlfriend.” he said, brushing his bangs back, “Not yet.”
More emojis flooded the chat than a sane person could handle.
“But I am trying to ask someone out…”, he smiled.
You froze. Like, physically froze. One of your papers slid right off your lap and landed on your open box of takeout noodles and you didn’t even care that you were now forced to give that student an automatic A.
“She doesn’t believe me though.”, he continued.
Your friends were still blowing up your phone. He leaned his cheek on his hand, looking dangerously soft for someone talking to millions around the world.
“Yeah, she thinks I’m joking.”, he let out a tiny, annoyed sigh, “I’m not. I wouldn’t joke when it comes to someone’s heart.”
You felt heat climb up your neck.
He kept reading comments, “No, she’s not an idol. Yes, my mom adores her. No, I’m not giving you guys her name.”, he said with a smile, “But she knows.”
A pause. You slapped a hand over your mouth so you wouldn’t scream. And then, because Yoongi was Yoongi, he looked right into the camera with those deceptively romantic eyes and said, “So, if you’re watching this…and I know that you are…go out with me?”
Your soul left your body.
Later that night, you stormed into his studio without even texting first. He looked up from his computer, eyebrows raised like nothing chaotic had occurred.
“What?”, he said.
“You!”, you pointed dramatically at him, “You asked me out in front of, like, a million people!”
“One million two hundred thousand and eight.”, he corrected calmly.
“Yoongi!”
He shrugged, smug, “I needed to ask you this month Y/N. Time’s ticking.”
You groaned, “You can’t just…just…publicly procure a date request like that!”
His lips twitched, “Did it work?”
“No!”
“Okay.”, He spun in his chair once, “Next month, then.”
You threw a Shooky shaped stress ball at his head.
He laughed when it bounced off his shoulder and onto the floor.
And that was Month 2.
—You didn’t even mean to overhear it.
You were just dropping by the studio to return the hoodie you “borrowed” last week (which totally wasn’t on purpose and definitely didn’t smell like him in a way that made you consider keeping it forever…and he definitely didn’t purposely spray it with an extra spritz of cologne and purposely leave it where he knew you would see and smell it like some kind of weird bait to catch a wild Y/N in a love trap).
The door wasn’t fully closed, so you pushed it open gently and nearly face-planted when you heard your own name.
Not spoken.
Sung.
In Yoongi’s voice.
On a track.
Your hand flew to your chest like you were a Victorian widow about to faint.
Yoongi sat at his desk, headphones around his neck, eyes closed, bobbing his head slightly as the demo played. You heard the warm, low rasp of his voice layered over soft synths and then, clear as day:
“…and I swear, Y/N, I’d wait forever if you let me…”
You choked on your own spit.
Yoongi’s eyes snapped open as he spun in his chair, “Oh. Hey.”
“Oh hey?”, you sputtered confused by his calmness, “You…you…you…WHY IS MY NAME IN YOUR SONG?”
He blinked, “Because I’m using it to ask you out this month?”
“You could’ve done that with a text message!”, you said dropping down onto the couch.
He frowned, “That’s boring.”
You opened your mouth. Closed it. Opened it again, because apparently you were a malfunctioning fish now, “It’s…it’s a whole song, Yoongi.”
“It’s a demo.”, he corrected you as if that really mattered.
“It’s a DEMO ABOUT ME.”
He turned back to the monitor, hitting the space bar to pause playback, “Not entirely about you.”
Your shoulders relaxed slightly, “Oh.” Then he continued, “Just mostly.”
You made an unholy noise.
He spun back toward you, hands behind his head, looking way too pleased with himself, “So Y/N.”, he said casually, “Go out with me?”
“Absolutely not.”, you squeaked, because your brain was fried, your heart was having palpitations, and your legs felt like uncooked noodles.
He nodded like he expected that, “Alright. Thought I’d try.”
“You can’t just insert someone’s name into a song. There are rules. Artist rules. Friend rules. Human rules.”, you argued.
“You didn’t like it?”, he asked.
“I didn’t say that!”
His lips curled, soft, smug, knowing, “Hm.”
You pointed aggressively at him, “Take it out.”
He traded, “Say yes and maybe I will.”
“YOONGI.”
He threw his hands up, “Fine, fine. I’ll… consider it.” You glared at him because you knew good and well he wasn’t removing a single vowel, consonant, syllable, or breath that sounded like you.
And he knew you knew.
And you knew he knew you knew.
He leaned back, folding his arms behind his head, “Next month?”
“Next month.”, you muttered, defeated.
He smiled.
And that was Month 3.
—You’d been fighting off a cold for a few days, stubbornly insisting you were “fine,” right up until you woke up feeling like you’d been hit by a truck, run over again, and told to smile about it.
You texted Yoongi to cancel your usual weekly hangout in his studio.
You: “Can’t come today. Dying. Send condolences.”
He answered in less than a minute.
Yoongi: “Unlock your door.”
You blinked. “You’re not coming over…”, you typed back, but before you could finish, your doorbell rang. When you opened it, there he was: black mask, enormous hoodie, hair tucked under a beanie, arms full of grocery bags like some devastatingly handsome personal nurse.
“I brought soup.”, he mumbled, “And medicine. And tea. And those stupid cookies you like.”
You stared at him, “Yoongi… you didn’t have to do all this.” He brushed past you into the apartment, “Month four, remember? This counts.”
You groaned, “You’re using my near-death experience as one of your monthly attempts to convince me?”
“Absolutely.”, he nodded, “I knew you were getting sick so I planned on coming over and doing this anyway.”
He set everything on the counter like he lived there, then turned to you and frowned, “Wow you look terrible.”
“Wow. Not very Romantic.”, you replied.
He rolled his eyes, but his gaze softened as he reached out and pressed a hand to your forehead.
His fingers were cool.
His touch was gentle.
Your breath caught and not because of the fever.
“Y/N you’re burning up.”, he said quietly, “Go sit down.” You shuffled to the couch, bundled yourself in a blanket, and watched him move around your kitchen with easy familiarity, making soup like he’d done it a hundred times. When he returned, he handed you a steaming bowl and a bottle of medicine.
“Eat.”, he ordered, “Then take this. Then sleep.”
You eyed him, “You’re staying?”
He sank onto the floor beside the couch, back against it, stretching his legs out with a small sigh.
“Yeah.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I know.”
There was something in the way he said it soft but stubborn, tender but matter-of-fact, that made your chest flutter.
After a while, he looked up at you, that lazy smile nudging at the corner of his lips.
“So?”, he said, “Will you go out with me now?”
You snorted, “Yoongi, I’m congested, freezing but sweating, and possibly contagious.”
He shrugged, “Didn’t ask for your medical history. I asked if you’d date me.”
“No.”
He sighed dramatically and slumped back against the couch, “Fine. Eight more months to go.”
But even after you said no he stayed the whole day, making sure you ate, making sure you took your medicine, watching dumb movies with you while you dozed off. At some point you woke up with your head on his shoulder and his hoodie draped over you like a blanket.
And he didn’t move an inch.
That was month four.
—It started with a downpour so violent the sky might as well have been throwing a tantrum.
You had stayed late at work prepping lesson plans and totally forgot your umbrella. Your school was close to a subway station, but the three-block walk between the two felt like crossing an ocean in the weather.
You texted Yoongi half-jokingly: “If I drown, on my way home, tell my students I loved them.”
You expected a teasing reply about how you always forgot your umbrella.
Maybe a “lol rip.”
Maybe a meme.
Maybe nothing because he was always working.
What you did not expect was a black car pulling up beside you ten minutes later, window rolling down to reveal Yoongi with soaked hair, a hoodie plastered to his shoulders, and an expression caught somewhere between irritation and worry.
“Get in.”, he said.
You blinked at him, “Why are you…wait, are you wet??”
“My car is in the shop. I had to take one of the company cars that was parked in the garage up the street.,” he muttered still annoyed, “So I had to run in the rain.”
“You RAN? In the rain?”, you asked surprised.
“You texted you were drowning!”
“That was a joke!”
“I didn’t know that!”
You stared at him knowing that he 100% knew you were joking and was playing dumb.
He stared back like you were personally responsible for the existence of weather. You got in the car, dripping everywhere. He blasted the heater immediately.
The ride was quiet at first. The soft kind of quiet that wasn’t uncomfortable, just thick with something neither of you ever acknowledged.
Then he said, grumbling, “Next time, just call me and ask for a ride.”
“I didn’t want to bother you.”
“You never bother me Y/N.”, he shot back…quick, sharp, too honest.
Your heart stuttered.
The windshield wipers kept rhythm as the city blurred past. Rain streaked down the windows, the streetlights casting warm gold over his face.
“You didn’t have to come, you know.”, you whispered feeling bad that he went out in the rain and cold just to pick you up.
He glanced at you, jaw tight, “Yeah…I did.”
You felt yourself swallow.
This man…this wildly famous, insanely busy, chronically tired man had sprinted through a storm because you sent one dramatic text as a joke.
You stared at your hands, “So… I guess this is Month Five’s attempt?”
He smirked, “Pretty good one, right?”
“Borderline heroic.”, you chuckled, “But still no.”
He scoffed but didn’t look disappointed, just determined, in that quiet Yoongi way.
“I’ve got time.”, he murmured.
He ended up following you into your apartment to make sure you didn’t “slip and die on wet floors.”
You called him even more dramatic than you.
He pretended not to hear.
Before he left, he tossed you one of his dry hoodies from his car. It smelled just like him. “Wear that.”, he said, looking anywhere but at you, “You’ll warm up faster. It’s expensive which means it works better.”
You didn’t miss the pink tucked under his ears as you slipped on the hoodie.
And that was Month 5.
—You didn’t even invite him.
You were at school prepping for your class’s little end-of-semester performance, a bunch of adorable, sugar-charged kids singing an English song with choreography that looked more like interpretive flailing. You and the kids had worked really hard on it and you were a little bit excited to say the least.
Parents were coming.
Other teachers were coming.
Everyone was coming.
But certainly not Min Yoongi. Or so you thought.
You were herding your students into two uneven lines when some of the moms gasp behind you. You turned and promptly short-circuited.
Yoongi stood there in all black, hair perfectly styled to look not styled at all, hands shoved in his pockets with a watch that cost more than a year of your rent shining brightly on his wrist. He was staring at the mini-chaos around him like he’d stumbled into a parallel universe and regretted his choice.
“Yoongi??”, you blurted, “What are you…why…who…how…?” He shrugged, “You said you had an important performance today.”
“I did not invite you!”, you half sighed half laughed. “You don’t invite me to half the things I show up to.”, he said without shame, “Where do I sit?”
Before you could answer, three of your smallest students ran straight at him like little missiles.
“Teacher Yoongi!!”
His eyes widened in the same way someone’s might widen if a bear ran toward them.
“Why do they know my name?”, he hissed. You had the nerve to smile, “Because you’re super famous, their moms are all in love with you, and…I use your life as an example in class sometimes.”
“What kind of example?”, he questioned.
“You don’t wanna know.”
Kids clung to his legs. Tugged his sleeves. Told him he was handsome or at least that’s what they hear. One asked if he was your boyfriend. Yoongi nearly malfunctioned.
Then, then one little girl, grinning with two missing front teeth, placed a sticker smack on his cheek.
A pink, glittery heart sticker. You could practically hear his soul leave his body. “Why…”, he began slowly, “Did she just mark me like I’m her property?”
“She likes you.”
“I can tell.”, he scoffed trying to hide his smile.
But he didn’t take the sticker off. Not once.
He sat through the entire performance with it sparkling on his face like the world’s cutest brand label.
After the show, you found him outside the classroom, surrounded by your students who were giving him drawings they’d made “for Teacher Yoongi.” Crayon portraits. Crooked hearts. Stick figures. One pink bunny drawing that included very strict instructions to give it to Jungkook.
He held every single one like they were priceless artifacts.
“Why are they giving me gifts?”, he whispered.
“Because you’re nice.”
“I’m not nice.”
“You ran through the rain last month to get me.”, you smiled. He glared at the floor like it offended him.
When the last kid finally left, he walked toward you, arms full of crooked art and his black Valentino dress shirt now covered in various colors of glitter.
“So Y/N…”, he said, clearing his throat, voice low, “Month Six?” You smiled, “Yeah?”
“Go out with me.”
Your heart squeezed painfully wanting to say yes, but the old insecurity stuck like glue.
“Yoongi… you shouldn’t…”
He cut you off gently, “I didn’t ask if I should. I asked if you would.” You looked away, “No. I still can’t.”
His shoulders tensed. Just barely, “Okay.”
He said it softly, without anger, without disappointment just that quiet acceptance that somehow hurt more.
But when he turned to leave, he tapped the glitter heart sticker still stuck to his cheek.
“Tell your kids.”, he said, “I liked it.”
Month 6 was done.
—It started with a migraine.
A truly evil one, the kind that made light feel like swords and sound feel like a personal attack. You’d texted Yoongi earlier to cancel your usual Thursday hangout, telling him you were going home to sleep it off.
He just replied: “Okay. Drink water.”
Which was very “Yoongi trying not to show he’s worried,” so you smiled at your phone and went to bed.
You expected that to be the end of it. But around 9 p.m., your doorbell rang.
You opened it slowly, blinking through the dim hallway light and there he was. Hoodie. Sweatpants. Hair tucked under a beanie. Holding a small paper bag like it contained the meaning of life.
“You look like death.”, he said gently.
“Thanks.”, you croaked, “That’s so sweet.”
He stepped inside before you could stop him, “Sit.”
You frowned, “You’re so bossy when you’re worried.”
His cheeks colored pink quickly, “And you’re annoying. Sit.”
You sat. He handed you the bag.
Inside was:
The exact migraine-safe tea you always bought
Your favorite extra salty comfort snack
A favorite cookie dough ice cream
A soft, fluffy weighted headband that could be microwaved to heat it up
And…A tiny bottle of lavender oil you mentioned one time helped you relax.
You stared at the items, throat tightening, “Yoongi…how did you…?”
“When you tell me things Y/N,” he said simply, “I listen.”
That shouldn’t have hit as hard as it did.
After he made you some tea and gave you some more pain killers he guided you to your couch, dimmed the lights without asking, and sat beside you, close, but not too close. Just enough that you could feel warmth radiating from him.
Then he held out his hand, “Give me.”
“Give you what?”, you asked confused.
He tilted his head, “Your head.” You blinked, “Yoongi, no…”
He sighed, “Do you want relief or not?”Reluctantly, dramatically, you lowered your head into his palm earning a small chuckle from him. He gently cupped your temple with the cold pack, fingers brushing your hairline with the kind of tenderness you absolutely were not emotionally prepared for.
You let out a shaky breath you didn’t mean to.
He heard it.
His voice softened immediately, “That helping?”
“Yeah.”, you whispered.
Silence stretched between you. Warm. Heavy. Dangerous. After five minutes, his thumb began to stroke small circles at the edge of your brow, completely unintentional, completely natural, and completely lethal to your self-control.
You turned your head a little. He froze. Your eyes met.
And for one terrifying, brilliant second, he leaned forward just slightly, just enough to make your breath catch, just enough to make his gaze drop to your mouth.
Just enough that if you moved a hair closer, he would kiss you.
But he didn’t move. And you didn’t either.
He cleared his throat first, pulling back so fast he almost dropped the ice pack.
“Month Seven.”, he said softly, eyes flicking away, “Go out with me.”
“Yoongi…”, you whispered, because your heart was pounding and your head was foggy and you couldn’t think straight, “You know I can’t.”
He nodded once. Sharp. Quiet. Understanding but hurting at the edges, “Okay. Next month, then.”
You didn’t know it yet, but he stayed in your apartment until you fell asleep, sitting on the floor beside your couch, arms folded on the cushion, head resting near your shoulder, watching you take slow even breaths. You woke up alone, but a new cold pack was still tucked gently against your temple.
And that was Month 7.
—You were both just grabbing dinner at a neighborhood tteokbokki place he loved. It was in a back alley just outside of the main city, owned and operated by a few elderly women. You figured it was going to be relaxed, simple, maybe a little teasing like usual.
But the moment you walked in, Yoongi stiffened.
The new waiter noticed you immediately, a tall, sharp-jawed guy with dimples that could start a minor revolution. He smiled right at you, bright and a little too eager.
“Table for two?”, he asked, eyes lingering. You didn’t think anything of it. Yoongi absolutely did. You didn’t catch the way his jaw clenched or how he stepped slightly closer to you like he was ready to body-check someone into a wall. The waiter led you to a booth and set down menus. Then he lingered. “You look familiar.”, he said to you, leaning a little too close, “Have we met before? Maybe at…”
Before he could finish, Yoongi slid one menu onto the table with a snap. “She hasn’t met you.”, he said flatly. The waiter blinked at him, awkwardly laughed, and finally took the hint, leaving. You turned to Yoongi, eyebrows raised, “Are you good?”
He stabbed a piece of fish cake with his chopsticks like it had personally betrayed him, “Fine.”
“You don’t look fine.”
“I am.”, he said with the tone of someone who was absolutely not fine.
You bit back a smile, “You sure? Because that guy was just being polite and you looked like you were about two seconds away from throwing him into the soup.”
He leveled a glare at you, “He was flirting.”
“He was not flirting.”
“He was absolutely flirting.”
“Yoongi…”
“He hovered. He smiled like a golden retriever. He asked if he knew you.”, he pointed his chopsticks at you, “That’s a bad attempt at flirting.”
You laughed and he grew even more annoyed. You reached across the table and nudged his drink toward him, “Relax. You’re acting weird and I don’t like it.”
He opened his mouth, closed it, opened it again…clearly arguing with himself internally.
Then the waiter came back with your orders, flashing that too-bright smile at you, “You seriously look really familiar.”, the guy said again, leaning in, “Are you a teacher? I think you taught English to my little sis…”
And that’s when Yoongi broke.
He slapped his palm onto the table hard enough to rattle the plates, “Can’t you see she’s busy?”
The waiter blinked, “Um. Oh. Okay. I was just…”
“She’s with me. We’re eating dinner together.”, Yoongi said. The guy looked between you two, sensing tension, but wisely backed away.
As soon as he left, you burst out laughing, “Yoongi, what was THAT?” He stared at you, face flushed, eyes wide, breathing like he’d just run a sprint he didn’t prepare for.
Yoongi looked at you for a long second. A long, vulnerable, irritated-at-himself second.
Then he blurted it—
Loud.
Fast.
Messy.
“Go out with me.”
Your breath caught, “Wait…what?”
“You heard me.”, he crossed his arms, staring down at the table like the napkins were causing him personal pain, “Month 8. Go out with me.”
No matter what, disbelief was your instinct, your shield, “Yoongi…”
He looked up finally, eyes surprisingly earnest beneath the frustration, “Don’t say no yet. Just… think about it.”
You exhaled softly, “Yoongi, I can’t.”
He closed his eyes like he’d expected that answer, like it stung but didn’t surprise him.
“Okay.”, he whispered, “Still not giving up.”
He didn’t speak much for the rest of the meal, but his leg brushed yours more than once under the table, like he needed the reassurance you were still there.
Month 8 was a no go.
—Yoongi had called it “doing you a favor,” but the second you walked into his apartment and saw him standing there in a black tuxedo that should’ve been illegal for him to wear, you were pretty positive you were the one doing him a favor by not passing out and ruining his night.
Just before you were getting ready to leave you were fixing your bracelet when you caught him staring. Not a casual look, one of those slow, wondering, soft-edged stares that would have meant something if you didn’t know Yoongi better.
“What?”, you asked, glancing down at your shimmering red dress like maybe you’d spilled something on it. He blinked, like he’d been zoning out, “Nothing. Just…”, he scratched the back of his neck, “You look incredibly beautiful.”
Your brain short-circuited for a second, then you forced a laugh, “Relax, it’s just a dress. I got it on clearance too.”
But Yoongi didn’t laugh. He just watched you a beat longer, jaw shifting like he wanted to say more. Like he almost did. Then he grabbed his wallet, muttered “let’s go,” and the moment dissolved.
You had the time of your life at the award show.
Backstage, he kept a hand gently at your lower back so you didn’t get trampled by managers and stylists. When people talked to him, he would glance at you every few seconds like he needed to make sure you hadn’t wandered off or evaporated. He made sarcastic comments under his breath just to make you laugh. He introduced you to people like you belonged there with him.
Every time someone’s flash went off, the two of you somehow leaned closer. Like instinct.
Somewhere between the second and third performance of the night, you caught yourself thinking:
If he asks again…I’ll say yes.
This time, you wouldn’t chicken out.
The after party wasn’t loud, just comfortably buzzy. Yoongi wasn’t drinking much, just nursing the same glass and sticking close to you like you were the only person in the room who didn’t exhaust him.
He was warm. Gentle. Making sure you ate and stayed hydrated. Touching the small of your back when he leaned in to hear your jokes. Smiling at you in that soft, real way he didn’t use on anyone else.
Your heart was doing backflips.
And then…
Of course.
She drifted over. A new sensation. The new IT girl. Gorgeous. Petite. Skin too perfect. She greeted him with voice like honey, a fond little “Yoongi Oppa,” and he answered with that sweet tone he almost never used on anyone but you, soft, teasing, familiar.
You felt it like a bucket of cold water.
Right.
Right.
That’s his world. His real world. Beautiful people with big money and talent stuck together. They dated, got married, and had beautiful talented children.
You were…what? A friend he brought along. A plus-one. A convenience. An easy way out of the rumor’s got too much. You stepped back a little. Gave them space. Convinced yourself it didn’t sting.
When she Walked Away. Yoongi turned back to you immediately, eyes searching, like he was making sure you were still there.
He smiled. Nervous.
“Hey.”, he said quietly, “So Y/N, I was thinking…”, he rubbed his thumb over the rim of his glass, “Go out with me.”
There it was. The thing you’d promised yourself you wouldn’t run from again.
And yet…your chest tightened.
Your voice betrayed you, “No.”
His face fell, not dramatically, just a tiny, stunned flicker he tried to hide.
“Oh.”, he said softly like he truly expected a different answer this time, “Okay. Yeah. No problem. Next month right?”, he forced a laugh.
He didn’t push. Didn’t guilt you. Just nodded, swallowed, and looked away for a moment like he was steadying himself. And you hated, hated, how much it hurt you to hurt him.
You were thankful that month 9 was over.
—Winter slapped the city early that year, cold enough to sting your nose after just a couple minutes, pretty enough to make you forget that last month ended with you telling Min Yoongi “no” when you meant “god, absolutely yes.”
You’d barely seen him since the award show. Not because he was avoiding you, Yoongi wasn’t the dramatic type, but because he was…different. Quieter around you. Careful, like you were a glass he wasn’t sure he should pick up again.
So when he texted you on December 3rd, it threw you.
Yoongi: You free tonight? Need your opinion on something.
You stared at the message for a good five minutes, wondering if it was a trap. Or worse, a lead in to a talk. You typed “yes” before you chickened out.
He met you outside your apartment, bundled up in a scarf and beanie, looking small and warm and unfairly cute.
“Come on.”, he said, barely meeting your eyes, “It’s a ten-minute walk.”
“Where are we going?”
He just shrugged, “You’ll see.”
Classic Yoongi: Quiet, but his gloved hand drifted close to yours as you walked, like he kept forgetting and remembering he wasn’t supposed to touch you like that.
You followed him through the city until you reached the park, specifically, the park that looked normal eleven months of the year but turned into a winter wonderland in December.
Lights everywhere. Glowing reindeer. A skating rink. Little food stalls serving soul warming items. Kids running around like sugar-fueled goblins.
Your heart did something stupid and hopeful.
“You brought me to the Winter Village?”, you asked. He didn’t look at you, “I told you I needed your opinion.”
“On…what? Whether to get hot chocolate or green tea?”
“No.”, he said flatly, “On this.” And then he pointed.
There was a booth selling handmade ornaments, glass, painted, delicate. Yoongi stepped closer, awkward as if he wasn’t sure this was a good idea anymore.
“Y/N, I wanted to get something for you.”, he said quietly, “For your tree. But I couldn’t pick one without you.”
Your brain short-circuited again, because…what?
“You want to get me a Christmas ornament?”, you repeated.
He nodded, cheeks pink from the cold…or maybe something else, “Last year you said your tree looked boring because your ornaments were cheap. Thought you might want…something nice.”
You stared at him, feeling warm in places that had no business being warm in 20-degree weather.
“Yoongi…that’s really sweet.”, you smiled. His mouth twitched like he was trying not to smile, “So pick one.”
You found a delicate hand blown glass ornament shaped like a grumpy little cat wearing a red Santa hat. It reminded you of someone. When you thanked him, he just bumped your shoulder and muttered, “Yeah, well…don’t drop it like I know your clumsy self will.”
The two of you wandered the village for a while, sipping hot cocoa, pretending everything was normal. Then you made the fatal mistake of stopping by the ice rink.
He looked at it with the most offended expression you’d ever seen, “No.” You nodded, “Yes.”
“I’m not doing this again.”, he said, sounding traumatized by a memory you hadn’t witnessed.
“You never even tried.”, you rolled your eyes.
“I don’t need to try to know gravity hates me.”
You laughed, “Please?” His eyes flicked to the ice, then to you, and you watched him lose the battle with himself in real time, “Fine Y/N. But if I die, I’m haunting you.”
He was terrible. Like newborn-deer-on-rollerblades terrible. At one point he slid a full two feet and grabbed onto you like you were a life preserver. His hand caught yours, warm, strong, and his other hand landed on your waist to steady himself.
You froze.
He froze.
The world didn’t.
Snow drifted around you, Christmas lights reflecting off the ice, and Yoongi was looking at you like he was trying really hard not to cross a line he’d drawn for himself because he had to.
“Yoongi…”, you breathed.
His jaw flexed, “You should’ve said yes last month.”, he murmured.
Your stomach dropped, “I know.”
He swallowed, eyes flicking to your mouth for half a second just long enough to hurt, “So will you go out with me?”
You opened your mouth, everything in your body telling you to say yes, but you shook your head.
He nodded and you swear you saw him deflate in real time. “Come on.”, he whispered, pulling his hand from yours slowly, like letting go cost him something, “Let’s get off the ice before I break both of my legs.”
Month 10 was done.
—It started with Yoongi knocking on your apartment door like he was trying not to break it with fury.
Three firm taps. No text beforehand. No “hey, you home?”
You opened the door, ready to tease him about being dramatic. But one look at his face, tight jaw, hard eyes, shoulders tense under his coat, and all your jokes died.
“What’s wrong?”, you asked.
His voice was grim and quiet, “Y/N…You went on a date?”
Your stomach dropped so hard and fast you felt dizzy, “Who told you that?”
He scoffed, “Does it matter?”
Well…no. Because yes, you’d gone. A few days earlier. With the waiter who had flirted with you months ago.
A distraction.
A bad idea.
A mistake you’d felt stupid about the moment it started because it wasn’t fair to him or Yoongi or you.
You stepped back, letting him in. He didn’t move at first, like crossing that threshold meant something heavier now, but then he brushed past you, footsteps sharp and angry.
“Yoongi…”, you tried, but he cut you off, “So let me get this straight.”, he turned to you, fury simmering under his words, “You keep rejecting me every time I ask you out. Every. Single. Month. But you’ll go on a date with him?”
You folded your arms, defensive, “Don’t make it sound like it was serious. I’m an adult. I can date whoever I want.”
“You still went.”, he shot back, “Why him and not me?”
“Because!…”, the words tangled in your throat.
Because you needed noise to distract you from your heart breaking.
Because watching Yoongi around women who fit his world hurt like hell and maybe you wanted to be with someone who fit beside you.
Because you were tired of disappointing him when the answer to happiness was so simple.
You took a breath, “Because I needed a break from all of this, Yoongi.”
“From what? Me?”, he asked, voice softer.
You hesitated one second too long. His eyes flashed with an anger, “Wow.”
“No…not you.”, you said quickly, “Just…the pressure.”
“What pressure Y/N? I ask you out once a month and then I back off. I’m not exactly chasing you with a marching band begging you for your hand in marriage.”, he spat.
“You’re famous.”, you blurted, “You’re successful. You’re rich. You date idols and actresses and gorgeous people who look like they belong on magazine covers…”
His face twisted like he’d been slapped.
You kept going because your emotions had hit critical mass, “And I’m just…me. I teach English to kids. I can barely pay my rent each month. I don’t belong on magazine covers or in music videos. And I…I can’t keep doing this dance with you when I know you’re just being nice, or bored, or…”
“Y/N Stop.”, he snapped, “Don’t do that.”
“Do what?”
“Decide for me.”, he said, voice rising now, “Decide what I feel. Decide what I want...who I want. Decide I’m lying. Decide I’m settling.”, he threw his hands up, “I’ve spent eleven months trying to show you I want YOU. And I’ve cared for you for many more months before that.”
You shook your head, “Why Yoongi?”
“Because I like you!”
“And I don’t believe you!”, you shouted feeling tears begin to form.
That one wounded him. Visibly. Deeply.
He stepped closer. Close enough to feel the cold still clinging to his coat. Close enough to feel the heat of his anger.
“Tell me why you went on a date with him.”, he said, quieter now…scarier quiet.
“Because I hoped it would…” This was humiliating. But you forced it out. “…get you off my case.”
Silence. Ugly, heavy silence.
Yoongi stared at you like he couldn’t recognize the person in front of him.
“I’m not…”, he paused, voice roughening, “I’m not trying to force you to date me. I’m trying to show you that I care. That I want you to date me.”
“Well maybe I don’t want you to care! Maybe I don’t want to date you.”, you lied.
He flinched. Just barely. But enough.
You swallowed hard, “You never give up. You never let it go. You never accept what I say…”
“What you say is bullshit.”, he cut in, voice sharp again, “You tell me you’re not good enough for me? Since when is that your decision and not mine? You don’t get to tell me who I’m allowed to want.”
“It’s not realistic.”, you shot back, “You and me? Come on. Look at your life.”
“I am looking Y/N!”, he shouted, “Why don’t you just shut up for once and listen to me instead?!”
You both froze.
He never yelled.
Not at you.
His breath came fast, like he was trying to reel himself back in.
He looked at the floor. The wall. Anywhere but your eyes.
“You know what…you’re right.”, he finally said, so softly it scared you, “I should give up.”
The words sliced through you.
He nodded, like he was agreeing to something inevitable, “So this is month eleven right?”
“Yoongi…”
“Let me ask one last time.”
He lifted his gaze and every bit of fire was gone, replaced with something hollow, “Will you go out with me?”
You just stared.
Frozen.
Heart aching. Confused. Wanting him. Terrified of him. Terrified of yourself.
He waited. One beat. Two. Three.
Then he nodded again, slowly, like he’d already prepared himself for this exact moment, “Got it.”
He stepped past you toward the door.
He didn’t touch you. Didn’t raise his voice. Didn’t slam anything. He just paused in your doorway for half a second shoulders sagging under the weight of eleven months of trying, “I’m sorry I upset you Y/N. That was never my intention.”
And then he left. Quiet. Controlled. Heartbroken.
And you didn’t hear from him again.
Not for days.
Not for weeks.
Month 11 had been the worst one yet.
—You’d never gone this long without hearing from Yoongi. Not once in all the years you’d been friends.
No late-night texts.
No “are you alive?” memes.
No voice memos of him giving an Oscar winning performance complaining about life and expecting an applause.
Nothing. Just silence.
It was your punishment, really. Or maybe it was his healing. Either way, it felt like losing oxygen little by little.
You tried to busy yourself. Tried to pretend it didn’t matter. But every night you found yourself checking your phone, waiting for a message that didn’t come.
And then one evening, against your better judgment, you opened his live when you saw the notification.
He sat in his studio, hair pushed back, tshirt hanging loose on his shoulders, looking like he hadn’t slept in a week. He answered questions, laughed a little. Faked a little.
And then someone asked:
“Yoongi, what happened to the girl you’ve been trying to ask out?”
He paused. Not long. But long enough for you to feel it in your bones.
Then he smiled, a tiny, tired curve of his lips and said, “It didn’t work out.”
No bitterness. No shade. Just quiet acceptance.
He changed the subject immediately, pretending it hadn’t gutted him to say those words.
You closed the live with shaky hands.
A day later, Namjoon messaged you.
Namjoon: Can you meet? It’s about Yoongi.
Your stomach knotted.
You should’ve said no. You almost did. But guilt was a cruel motivator.
So you met him at a tiny café tucked into a quiet street, the kind of place Namjoon liked because the tables were wide and the ambiance was “good for thinking.”
He got straight to the point, “He’s not okay.”
Something in your chest cracked.
Namjoon continued, “I’ve seen him down before, but this…this is different. He’s barely talking. Cancelled plans with his parents. Buried himself in work. I think he’s pretending he’s fine so nobody worries.”
You swallowed, “I didn’t mean to hurt him.”
Namjoon sighed gently, “We all know that, but then why did you say no again?”
You stared at your half-empty cup, “Because I didn’t think he meant it. Because he’s…him. And I’m me. I don’t…”, you pushed a hand through your hair, “I don’t belong in his world.”
Namjoon just blinked at you. Then he let out a breath of disbelief, “Y/N do you seriously think Yoongi cares about that? He doesn’t give a damn about status or popularity. He doesn’t even know how much he’s worth half the time.”
You stayed silent.
Namjoon leaned back and rubbed his face, “You wanna know what I did last year?”
He didn’t wait for your answer, “I had to carry a drunk Yoongi to his bed at 3am and he wouldn’t shut up about you.”
Your head snapped up, “What?”
“Oh yeah.”, Namjoon said with a grimace, “You know how he gets when he drinks, whispery and sentimental? He kept telling me, ‘Joonie, don’t laugh, but Y/N’s so pretty and so hot and I love when she wears that black dress. I can’t think when she’s around me. She smiled at me today and my soul left my body. I think I’m dying. Don’t let me die.’”
Your jaw dropped, “No he didn’t.”
“Oh, he did.” Namjoon said, sipping his drink like he suffered for it. “Over and over. AND that was just the PG rated stuff I had to hear about. By the time I left his place I needed some Hobi Water for my ears as the kids these days say.”
You covered your face with both hands as heat flooded through you.
“Call him.”, Namjoon said softly, “Please. He misses you.”
“I can’t.”, you whispered, “Not after everything.”
Namjoon looked at you with a mix of frustration and sympathy, “Then at least decide what you want before the month ends.”
You couldn’t bring yourself to call him.
Every time you opened your contacts, your thumb hovered and froze. You’d hurt him too much. He deserved better than your confusion and games.
So you stayed quiet.
The month crawled toward its end, days and hours slipping past you like water down your fingers. Each minute that ticked by made your chest feel tighter. More final.
All day, you kept waiting for your phone to buzz.
It didn’t.
And honestly?
You didn’t blame him.
He’d done enough. Sometimes even the most patient hearts get tired.
Just before midnight, restless and hungry, you grabbed a hoodie, his hoodie with that faint scent of his cologne that you were hanging on to, and walked out into the cold for a snack. The night was crisp and quiet, snow drifting lazily through the air keeping most people inside.
Instead of heading straight home after, your feet carried you toward the river.
Your spot.
Yoongi’s spot.
The one place he always took you when life got too loud. When he wanted to reset.
You sat on the railing, eating your hotteok, staring at the dark water reflecting the city lights. Your breath fogged the air.
He’s not coming you thought to yourself.
11:51 PM.
You sighed, pulling your knees up to your chest.
11:55 PM.
You wiped at your eyes telling yourself it was just the wind causing the waterworks.
11:57 PM.
This is it, you thought.
No month 12. No last ask. It really is over.
You exhaled shakily…Then you heard it.
Footsteps.
Fast footsteps.
Running.
You turned. And there he was.
Yoongi sprinting toward you, out of breath, cheeks pink from the cold and from exertion, hair messy under a SnapBack he’d clearly thrown on in a rush.
He skidded to a stop in front of you, hands on his knees, trying to inhale enough oxygen to function.
“Yoongi?”, you breathed, heart racing.
He held up a finger, “Gimme…”, gasp, “…a sec…”, gasp, “…you’d think I’d be in better shape.”
You waited, stunned, watching him gather himself. Finally, he straightened up, chest still heaving, eyes shining in the dim light.
“It’s still the twelfth month.”, he panted. “I made it to you before midnight so it counts.”
Your throat tightened, “You didn’t have to…”,
“I know.”, he cut you off, sharper than he meant to, “But I wanted to.”
You stared at him. He stared right back, expression tangled between hurt, hope, frustration, and something unshakably tender.
Then he swallowed hard. Took one hesitant step closer. And said softly, almost reverently, “Y/N, will you go out with me?”
No flourish.
No teasing.
No dramatic gesture.
Just raw, exhausted honesty from a man who’d loved you quietly, fiercely, stubbornly for a year and honestly many more before that.
Tears prickled your eyes.
“Yoongi…”, you whispered. The clock on your phone blinked 12:00 AM.
He didn’t look away as he said, barely above a breath, “This last year has been one of the best of my entire life.”
Your heart hammered so hard it hurt.
“I looked forward to every month.”, he continued, “Every excuse to see you. Every excuse to do something nice for you. Every stupid plan. Every time you rolled your eyes at me. It was all worth it.”
You blinked, tears blurring the city behind him, “Yoongi…”
“I love you Y/N.”, he said, firm like he truly meant it, “I’ve loved you all year. Longer than that. And I’m tired of pretending I don’t.”
Your breath shook as you tried to speak, “Do you…do you really mean that?”
Normally, he would’ve teased you. Or nudged you. Or maybe even argued.
But tonight?
He was done explaining himself with words.
A beat of silence stretched between you.
Then Yoongi exhaled like he’d reached the end of his rope, stepped forward…
…and kissed you.
Not gently.
Not hesitantly.
But with months of frustration, affection, heartbreak, and longing poured into a single moment.
His cold hands slid to your jaw, thumbs brushing your cheeks as if memorizing you.
You melted into him, fingers fisting in his coat, kissing him back with all the fear and want you’d swallowed for so long.
When he finally pulled back, breath warm against your lips, he whispered, “Y/N…please…please let me love you. Let me try. Give me a chance.”
Your voice cracked as you breathed an almost silent, “Yes.”
Yoongi froze.
Like he didn’t trust himself to believe it.
“Yes.”, you repeated, stronger this time, “I’ll go out with you.”
His eyes softened, something relieved, something overwhelmed, something that looked like coming home.
Snow drifted between you as he leaned his forehead against yours.
“Month twelve.”, he whispered, “And you’re finally my girlfriend.”
And then with the snow softly falling and the lights of the big city twinkling behind you, he pulled you flush against him and kissed you again, slower this time. His hands gripping your waist like a man who couldn’t believe that you were finally his, but also like a man eternally determined to prove to you that you were more than worthy of being Min Yoongi’s girl.

summary: You know that glance. The last time you've seen it was a decade ago, before those same dark eyes with a scar across one shut for eternity. Yet, somehow...he's alive.
In oil portraits that hung too high on paneled walls. In black-and-white photographs. In...him. A grandfather whose presence could silence a room without lifting a hand. The resemblance is cruel in its precision and you see it only now when it's too late.
He steps into the hollow spaces of your life like he was always meant to. By the time you realize he's listening, your heartbeat has already begun answering.

1984
Yoongi hated funerals.
The church reeked of damp lilies and cheap incense, that sour mix clinging to the air no matter how many donations his family funnelled into the place. His black suit itched like someone had stitched grief directly into the seams, every thread a reminder that he didn't want to be here, and yet he sat, rigid on the hard wooden pew, surrounded by polished shoes and eyes that glistened too easily to be real.
He tugged at his collar, breath hitching against the starch, and glared at the coffin resting beneath the sweep of stained glass. He left this world too soon. At least that's what everyone kept saying since his grandfather's eyes closed for the last time.
The man who had ruled every corner of Yoongi's life. Whose shadow stretched so wide it swallowed generations. Even now.
“He was a good man,” they whispered. Over and over. Yeah. Sure.
He didn't want to care—God, he hated caring—but the ache lodged beneath his ribs refused to loosen. Softness was a curse he had never outgrown, something inherited from his grandmother if the relatives were to be believed. A kind heart, they'd called it. Their words. Never his.
And as always, it was his grandparents they celebrated—their strength, their love story, their immaculate legacy. His parents hovered somewhere behind all that shine, reduced to faint silhouettes. His father, too quiet and painfully careful; his mother, gentle in a world that devoured gentleness. They existed like wallpaper: present, but ignored.
He'd grown up in his grandparents' house more than his own. Another twist of pain. Another tight breath, he tried to swallow down. He despised the sting rising behind his eyes, the childish pressure in his chest.
Don't cry. Not here. Not where people could see.
Ji-eun hadn't come. Of course, she hadn't. She'd left him last week with a note and a cold kind of finality.
You're too closed off. You'll never let anyone in.
That wasn't true. He would have let you in—fully, completely—if she'd ever given him the chance. If she'd ever looked away from that pathetic athlete she trailed after. A walking sack of hormones and cheap aftershave. Whatever his stupid name was.
Even now, you sat a few rows ahead with him.
Yoongi hated himself for noticing. Hated that the sight of your profile—soft, familiar, heartbreakingly beautiful—still punched a hole through him. An insult. The boy beside you was a fucking insult.
He'd memorized you in ways he'd never admit aloud: the curve of your jaw, the way you bit your lip when you studied, the laugh you tried to hide when you thought no one was watching. And now some over-fed jock got to sit next to you, close enough to feel the warmth he'd spent months pretending he didn't crave.
If grief didn't kill him today, jealousy might.
He slouched lower, eyes pinned to the coffin as though staring hard enough might force the universe to give him something—clarity, forgiveness, the truth he wasn't ready for. Instead he got the muffled drone of yet another eulogy.
Too good. Too kind. Too soon.
The same empty phrases rattled through the church, ringing false in Yoongi's skull.
He pressed his tongue against his teeth, jaw tight.
Lies always sound better in church.
1995
The bathroom mirror was fogged at the corners, a faint ghost of the too-hot shower you'd taken to steady your nerves. Your hair sat twisted in a towel, damp strands slipping free to cling to the back of your neck. Mint still coated your tongue—sharp, clinical—fighting the sour knot lodged in your stomach.
You sat on the closed lid of the toilet, elbows on your knees, the little white stick balanced face-down on the counter like a cruel, silent clock.
Two minutes. Maybe three.
You didn't look. You couldn't. Not after so many disappointments. Instead, you focused on the tiles beneath your feet, following cracks and crooked grout lines as if they could anchor you.
Your husband was somewhere else, wherever he pretended to disappear when he didn't want to be around, through another round of tests. It almost felt like he'd run out of hope. You told him you could manage, and he hadn't argued. He never did anymore. It was easier for him to believe the London doctors were right that your body was the problem. That the blame lived solely with you.
Your thumb rubbed over your wedding band, restless, before your gaze drifted to the test again. One line. Not pregnant. Of fucking course.
You didn't even bother tossing it. Just shoved it into the bottom drawer with the others, a quiet little graveyard of plastic reminders.
A long breath slipped out of you as you reached for the blow dryer. If you stayed in this bathroom any longer, the silence would suffocate you. So you moved. You dried your hair the way your mother always preferred, tapped concealer beneath your eyes to chase the shadows, and applied cherry-sweet gloss that didn't quite mask the bitterness in your mouth.
The car hummed to life. Rain smeared across the windshield in thin, watery threads as the wipers dragged back and forth. You called your mother because you didn't know what else to do and because she always answered.
“Sweetheart?” Her voice crackled through the speakers, warm but cautious. “Are you on your way to the clinic like you promised?”
“Yeah.” Your grip tightened around the steering wheel. “Thought they'd closed patient applications, but when I called this morning, they said they could give me an appointment.”
“Well, they know whose daughter you are, sweetheart.” The closed circle was preferred there, and you were not part of it for a long time.
“Mom… who did you tell I'm back?” A pause. The kind that drops straight into your stomach.
“Only family,” she said too carefully. “You know how word travels—”
“Mom.” Sharper this time. “Who did you tell?”
Another pause. Heavier.
“Yoongi,” she finally admitted, as if the name itself might crack something fragile between you. “He's the family doctor now. The practice is his.”
Your grip slipped. The car drifted half an inch before you straightened it, heart pounding.
“You—what?”
“He took over after Doctor Kim passed. Someone had to.” Her voice softened, apologetic in a way that made everything worse. “He's grown into it. Everyone says he's doing well.”
You couldn't speak. Snow streaked down the windshield, blurring the world into a wash of white color.
“Sweetheart,” she tried again, gentle now. “I didn't want to worry you. He'll take good care of you. That's what matters.”
You pressed harder on the gas—not enough to be reckless, just enough to feel the car obey you. To feel like something was still under your control. But the truth stayed cold and steady:
Nothing about walking into that clinic felt controllable. Not with him waiting behind the door.
Not when everyone had once whispered you should've been his.
You could still hear those whispers now—the same ones Princess and Hoseok endured. Every family gathering, every quiet comment: Yoongi looks at her like she's already his. People never forget things like that.
You pictured him as he was the last time you saw him: twenty or so, all sharp edges and quiet certainty. And you—running off to London with a boy who never fit your family's world. You left without looking back.
Until you had no choice.
“Mom,” you said, voice thin, “I can't just—”
“You can.” Her tone steadied. “He's a doctor. And he's good. That's all you need to remember.”
But that wasn't all you remembered.
Suddenly every memory of your shared youth resurfaced. Him brushing a stray strand behind your ear while you read. Letting you put your cold feet, wrapped in fuzzy pink socks, in his lap. Stealing his grandfather's whiskey collection together. The way he'd stand behind you, fingers warm on your hips, when he asked you to join him for dinner at his grandparents' house.
And the way all of it fractured when you met Luke.
It had been so easy then—slipping your hand into the athlete's, letting him drag you to campus parties, bright lights and loud music and a life that felt fast enough to escape your hometown. You told yourself Yoongi would understand. Told yourself he never wanted things like that.
But the look on his face the day you told him you were thinking of running away—tight-lipped, unreadable, eyes shuttered—you carried it with you for a decade.
Now your wedding band digs into your skin, a reminder of every choice that led you here.
“Sweetheart,” your mother murmured, softer still. “This is what's best. For you. For the family. Just… go. Yoongi will understand.”
But your pulse refused to settle.
All you could see was the way Yoongi used to look at you—careful, quiet, as if one wrong breath might shatter you. There was a time he'd have done anything you asked. But the heartbreak you caused him when you ran away might have been too severe for him to even talk to you after all these years of no contact.
Now you were the one breaking.
And the cruelest part?
He was the one you had to ask for help.
The clinic smells the same. Antiseptic, faint sandalwood and vanilla—like the ghost of Doctor Kim and Min still lingers in the walls. The waiting room hasn't changed much either: several couches along one wall, a table stacked with outdated magazines, and old photographs of the original sanatorium back in Korea.
Except now there's a new nameplate on the reception desk.
Dr Min Yoongi, M.D.
You tug at the sleeve of your jacket, trying to still the jitter in your fingers. The receptionist greets you kindly enough, asks you to fill out a form out of formality of course, and you force your hand to move across the paper, though every line blurs the longer you try to focus. Your throat feels raw, dry, like it doesn't belong to you anymore.
You hand the clipboard back, barely recognizing your own signature, and sink into one of the couches. The leather is stiff and colder than you remember. Your palms press flat against your thighs as though anchoring you to the room, to this moment, to the inevitability of what comes next.
A memory flickers—Doctor Kim once pointed to the wall of black-and-white portraits, telling you the oath is more than medicine. It's legacy.
A door clicks open somewhere down the hall. Slow, measured footsteps follow.
“Dr. Min will see you now,” the nurse says, a polite smile you can't return.
Your body locks. For a second—maybe two—you can't move at all. Then your legs carry you forward on instinct, stiff and unsteady, like you're walking straight into the past.
And then—
Yoongi.
Older now—lines carved deeper around his eyes. The white coat looks like a perfect fit, hugging his shoulders, with the stethoscope slung carelessly around his neck as if it belongs there. He stops when he sees you, just for a second, something flickering across his face and his heartbeat stops. You can tell because you are a perfect mirror for him right now.
“Y/N.” His voice is low, steady, and nothing like the boy you remember. He is a man now.
You look him over without meaning to, his long-ish hair is long gone; instead, they are trimmed short. You wonder whether he cut them after you left, or if it is a recent change. They defined his personality so much back in the day and made him look like the young version of his grandfather—minus the scar.
The folder in his hand with your name on it. Your old life lay open beneath his fingers.
You finally take a slow step forward, the click of your heel against the tile louder than it should be. He doesn't move, doesn't speak again—just watches you with that same quiet intensity that always used to make you lose your train of thought.
“Hey.” It escapes softer than you intend—half greeting, half plea. Please don't hate me. The corner of his mouth twitches. The ghost of something.
“Come in,” he murmurs. “We'll go over your records.”
He turns, and you follow, close enough to breathe the faint trace of his cologne—fresh grapefruit and saltwater. Something clean. Something painfully familiar.
The exam room door closes with a soft click. He moves an armchair aside for you, gestures toward the seat, then circles back to his desk with the old beige folder—the one his grandmother once filled with careful notes.
“So…” He flips through the first pages, yellowed with time. His grandmother's handwriting. Then Doctor Kim's. Then silence where the rest of your life should have been.
“…your records go back to '84,” he murmurs. “Chronic hypoglycemia. Recurrent fainting. You were supposed to keep glucose tabs on you.”
“I did,” you say. “Most of the time.”
He glances up, one brow arched. “Most of the time.” Dry. Familiar. Cutting in a way that pulls at something deep in your chest.
“I got better,” you insist weakly.
“That's not how hypoglycemia works.” He hums, skeptical. “Either you managed it, or you didn't.”
You force a small nod. “I managed.”
He hums again, unconvinced, flipping through the pages.
“The last record I have is from right before you left.” He doesn't say when you left me, but the air bruises anyway. “You missed your follow-up that summer.”
“Didn't think anyone kept track.” You let out a hollow laugh.
He lifts his eyes. And there—beneath the professionalism—something raw gleams through.
“I kept track.”
You break eye contact first. Your heart stutters, but you hide it behind a practiced smile. He leans back in his chair, tapping the pen against the folder.
“So,” he continues, leaning back, pen tapping lightly against the folder, “tell me what's changed. Symptoms? Medication?”
The words knot in your throat. You open your mouth, close it again. The pressure behind your ribs builds until your breath stutters.
You take a deep breath and try to steady yourself. You can do this. Just say it. But your voice catches, a whisper on the verge of breaking. You open your mouth, then close it. Then open it again. The words are stuck, trapped somewhere between your throat and your chest.
“Y/N?” he prompts gently, raising his brows at you.
“I… I didn't know how to—”
“How to what?” His voice goes soft. Patient. Dangerous. You look at him.
The room tilts with the weight of every memory you shouldn't be remembering. The boy who tucked your hair behind your ear. The boy who waited for you outside the library. The boy you ran from.
“It's complicated,” you whisper.
“I—” you start, but the folder feels heavier in your hands than it should, like it's full of every mistake you've ever made. “I just… I didn't know how to—”
“How to what?” He tilts his head slightly, patient, unreadable.
You glance at him, and your stomach twists. Because it's him. The same boy who once wanted to be more than friends, who almost… almost could have been everything, if only you hadn't left. If only you hadn't run. You can't tell him. You should not fucking tell him about it. Not now. Not here. Not with the weight of the years being apart pressing down between you.
“I… it's complicated,” you murmur, voice trembling. “Some things… they're better left to the doctor, I guess.” You close your eyes, replaying the stupidity you just said. His eyes narrow slightly—not in anger, but in that way that always made you feel seen too deeply.
“I am the doctor,” he says gently. “You know that, right?”
You force a laugh, bitter, shaky. “I know.” But it's hollow, echoing in the room. You glance down at your hands, knuckles white. “It's…” You bite down your lip.
“You trust me, don't you? Y/N?” He studies you, silent, and for a heartbeat, you swear he sees right through the façade. The doctor is there, yes—but so is the boy who used to wait for you at the library steps. Your throat burns. Of course I do. Always have. But trust isn't simple. Not with him. Not when the past threatens to bleed into the present. You are fucking married and should never think about him like this anymore, but you cannot help but stare at his barren fingers, no wedding ring in sight, or the way he scanned your hand and saw one with a flicker of disappointment on his face.
Maybe he thought that you came back because you got a divorce. Maybe you just got enough of London. Or maybe he thought you came back to him.
None matters. The wedding ring is still on your finger, while your bed is oddly cold in the mornings when your husband leaves you without saying goodbye and comes back when you've already fallen asleep.
You cannot give your husband a baby, and you desperately want one. To find a purpose in life again.
“I—maybe… maybe we shouldn't—”
“Shouldn't what?” His voice drops, quiet now, almost intimate, carrying the weight of every memory between you. “We're not talking about us. We're talking about your health, Y/N.”
“You never called me that.”
He blinks, the faintest shadow of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
“Called you what?”
Your throat tightens. “Y/N.” The syllables feel foreign when you say them out loud—too formal, too detached. “You never called me by my name.”
For a moment, the air between you is heavy with the weight of things unsaid.
“Why is it not Lark anymore?”
“Because,” he says quietly, “Lark flew away.”
“You make it sound like she never came back.” He exhales through his nose, slow and steady, and you catch the faintest trace of that same grapefruit scent again.
“Maybe she didn't,” he murmurs. “Maybe this version of her just looks the same.”
You want to say something sharp, something that'll put distance between you—but the warmth in his voice disarms you. He's not accusing. He's remembering. And that makes it worse. That's what breaks you, and the tears start to fall before you realise that.
You didn't think that your first encounter after such a long time would go down like this. You didn't think you missed him as much before he opened the door and looked at you, really looked at you. Not only with his eyes.
He freezes at the first glint of tears, just for a fraction of a second, enough for you to notice the tension in his jaw. Then, carefully, almost hesitantly, he reaches for a tissue from the box on his desk.
“Are you okay?” You shake your head, unable to speak. Your hands clutch the folder in your lap like it's a shield, though it does nothing to stop your shoulders from trembling.
“I… I thought I could handle it,” you whisper finally, voice breaking. “Seeing you here… it's not what I thought it would be. I didn't know it would hurt this much.”
He kneels slightly by your chair, careful not to crowd you, and hands you the tissue without a word.
“Why didn't you call or write, Larkie?”
The nickname hits like a pulse beneath your skin—soft, familiar, and unbearably intimate. You forgot how it sounded in his voice, how it carried a kind of quiet belonging that no one else ever managed to replicate.
You swallow hard, staring down at the white tissue in your lap. “Because I was a coward,” you admit, barely above a whisper. “Because if I heard your voice again, I would've come back.”
“You could've,” he says softly, like it's the simplest truth in the world.
“No, I couldn't. Luke had the contract, and I needed to make a life for myself, outside of the family.” You shake your head.
“But you're back now, aren't you?”
“Yeah,” you breathe, your fingers tightening around the folder in your lap. “I'm back.”
“But this is not why I'm here today…”
“Then why are you here, Larkie?” Yoongi's voice drops, careful, almost hesitant, though his eyes never leave yours.
“I… I,” you whisper finally, voice trembling. “I...we can't… I can't have a baby.”
The words hang in the air, fragile, and your hands clench the tissue like it's the only thing keeping you grounded.
For a heartbeat, he says nothing, just studies you, the way he always did when something mattered more than the surface. Then he exhales slowly, a quiet, steadying sound.
“Who told you that?”
You swallow again, blinking rapidly to keep the tears from spilling over. “The doctors in London… they said it's me. That my hypoglycemia is affecting my hormones…” Your voice catches, and you trail off, unable to finish.
“Well, it sure can suppress ovulation, alter luteinizing hormone pulsatility, and compromise follicular development. But—this is not a deterministic outcome. We need a full endocrine panel: cortisol, thyroid, FSH, LH, estradiol…” Yoongi's hand twitches toward the folder, but he doesn't touch it. Instead, his gaze sharpens, steady and piercing, yet there's no judgment there—only focus, only concern.
You bite your lip, forcing the words out. “I… I just wanted a child. I wanted—something that could be mine…” Your voice trembles, catching on the emotion you've kept buried.
“Did Luke get tested?” He had to ask, and you had to answer.
“They say everything is fine on his end.” Yoongi exhales slowly, hearing your words, leaning back just enough to let the tension settle between you, but his eyes never leave yours.
“I'd like to see his results and re-test that hypothesis.”
The precision in his words, the clinical layering over the personal, makes your chest ache. This is Yoongi—the boy who once waited for you in the library, the man who now speaks with authority and care, and yet somehow… still sees you. You inhale shakily, letting yourself cling to that thread of hope, fragile but real.
“Luke… he's sort of… given up,” you admit, voice barely above a whisper. “He doesn't think we'll ever be able to have a child. He… he stopped hoping a while ago.” Yoongi's brow furrows slightly, the clinical part of him sharpening instinctively.
“How long have you been trying?” His voice is calm, controlled, but there's an undercurrent of concern you can't miss.
“About three years.” You glance down at your lap, swallowing hard.
He leans back slightly, eyes narrowing just enough to read the weight behind your words. “Three years… and no interventions in that time, aside from whatever was recommended abroad?”
“Just the tests. Medications, cycles, vitamins… but nothing really worked. And Luke… he just stopped trying. He thinks it's me, that it's always been me.” You shake your head.
“We'll reassess everything, just get him down to the clinic.”
“Okay.....uhm. I'll try my best.”
“I need to go. I promised mum I'll come by.” You slide the folder to his desk and stand up. A lie. You just need to get out of here as soon as possible. If he's going to look at you that way any longer, you'll succumb.
“Of course, I'll give you the next appointment as soon as I'm done going through your file.”
You take a few steps toward the door, the weight of the conversation pressing against your chest, making each movement feel heavier than it should. Your throat tightens and your stomach twists as a sudden realisation hits.
You spin back, breath uneven, and before you can stop yourself, you throw your arms around him. His hands freeze for a fraction of a second, then settle firmly on your back, steadying you. You bury your face into the crook of his neck, inhaling that faint scent of grapefruit and ocean that has somehow stayed the same all these years.
Yoongi's lips brush the top of your hair, soft, deliberate. “Larkie…” he murmurs, voice low, almost reverent.
“Thank you.” You say into the crook of his neck and stay for a moment longer. Tears still prickling in your eyes. But for the first time in years, the future doesn't feel quite so impossible.
“I'll give you a baby. I promise.”
You let yourself into the apartment, the key clicking too loudly in the lock. The faint scent of his aftershave hangs in the air—sterile, faintly chemical, not like Yoongi's almost natural scent. You curse yourself for comparing them right now. You didn't think of Yoongi this way for years, and it took one glance at him for your brain to shut off asap.
The sound of the television droning in the living room greets you before he does.
Luke is on the couch, shirtless, shoulders hunched forward, eyes fixed on the sports channel like it holds the meaning of life. The light from the screen paints his face in harsh flashes of blue and white. There's an empty glass on the coffee table, a half-melted ice cube swimming in what's left of his scotch.
“Where have you been?” he mutters without looking up.
“I had an appointment,” you reply, setting your purse down a little too carefully. Your heart is still thudding from earlier — from Yoongi's voice, his steady hands, the promise he didn't mean to make.
“Another doctor?” Luke hums that low, dismissive sound he uses when he's already decided not to care.
“Yeah. Just… a check-up.” You hesitate. Especially with telling him it was Yoongi you went to see.
“Still trying to fix what can't be fixed, Y/N?” His laugh comes dry, sharp around the edges. You freeze. He doesn't see it—or maybe he does and doesn't care. He takes a sip of his drink, eyes never leaving the screen.
“You should stop wasting money on this, Y/N. We've done everything. It's not happening.” Something inside you cracks at his tone. Not the words, but the emptiness behind them. The surrender.
“We haven't done everything, not even nearly” you whisper. “You gave up.”
That gets his attention. He turns his head slowly, eyes narrowing, his once-golden hair now dulled from stress and sleepless nights.
“You think I gave up? You think I wanted this?”
“I don't know what you want anymore, Luke.”
He scoffs and gets up, moving past you toward the bar cart. His back is tense, the faint outlines of muscles twitching as he refills his glass.
“What I want is a wife who doesn't keep dragging me through pity appointments. What I want is peace. You think it's easy for me, living off your father's money? You think I don't hate this?”
“Then why did we come back?” You take a step forward, your voice small but steady.
“Because we didn't have a choice.” He downs the drink in one go and turns, jaw tight.
“I had a job, we could have lived a bit–”
“You wanted a goddamn baby. You can't work and have a baby at the same time. Jesus. Your parents hate me already.” He smacks the glass down on the table and looks you in the eye. You've been together for a decade. It is impossible for you not to recognise this look of I'm right, you're wrong.
“Don't do that,” you whisper. “Don't make it sound like I'm asking for something unreasonable.” He runs a hand through his hair, pacing, restless, as if he's trying to shake off your words
“It's bad enough we are back in this fucking city, with your fucking family. You dragged me back, and now you're running to another fucking doctor!” You blink, the tears stinging now.
“What are you even saying—I didn't drag you anywhere. You said yes. You said we could try again here.”
“I said yes because there was money here,” he bites out, and suddenly it's too quiet. “Your trust fund. Stability.” He scoffs, turning away. “What else was I supposed to do? Sit in London and watch my career die?”
“So that's what this is about?” The words land like a slap, hot and hollow. He exhales sharply.
“It's always about reality, Y/N. You think the world runs on wishes? You think crying in another doctor's office is going to change a goddamn thing?”
“Yoongi doesn't think it's hopeless.” You step closer, voice trembling but certain. You feel the glass fly past you, shattering against the wall behind you with a loud crash. You don't even flinch anymore.
“The fuck?!” Luke's head snaps toward you right away, eyes narrowing. “Yoongi?” He says the name like poison. “That's what this is really about, isn't it?”
“No, Luke—” You freeze, not really sure how you can save this colossal fuck up.
“Don't lie to me.” His laugh is low, humourless. “Of course it's him. It's always him. Min fucking Yoongi. Christ, I should've known the minute you mentioned seeing a doctor here.”
“He's just helping us,” you manage, but your voice comes out thin.
“Helping us?” He takes a step closer, the air between you sharp with tension. “He's wanted to fuck you since you were of age. You think I didn't see it? You think I didn't notice the way you lit up whenever he walked into a room?”
“Stop it. He was my closest friend and that's it.”
“Why stop?” His tone grows colder and crueler. “Because you know I'm right? You never got over him. That's why you ran to him the second we got back. You could've gone anywhere, but no—you go to him.”
“I didn't know he took over as the family's doctor.” Tears sting the back of your throat, but you force yourself to meet his stare.
“You always do this—hide behind innocence when you know exactly what you're doing. You married me, but you never stopped wanting him.” He shakes his head, a bitter smile twisting his lips.
“You're out of line.” Your hands ball into fists. “Luke, listen to me,” you say, voice shaking. “He's just a doctor. That's all. There's nothing between us. There never was.”
“You expect me to believe that?” He lets out a sharp, disbelieving scoff, his shoulders stiffening.
“Yes,” you whisper. “Because it's the truth.” No, it's not.
“Then why does it sound like you're defending him more than you ever defend me?” He stares at you like he's trying to see through you, eyes rimmed red from the drink and the anger.
“Because he's the only one still fighting for us right now. He wants to help, Luke. He thinks we still have a chance—” You close your eyes, forcing the words out before you lose your nerve. “You said you wanted a family as much as I did, but now you've just… stopped trying. Please, Luke. Just one last time. Go down to the clinic, get tested. If there's nothing left to fix, I'll stop too. I swear.”
For a long moment, he says nothing. Just breathes, the sound heavy and tired. Then he nods once, curt, like it costs him.
“Fine. I'll fucking go and jerk one off again.” He barks out, tired of arguing.
“Okay,” you whisper. “Just one last time.” You nod, biting your lip hard to keep the sob down.
You stand there in the half-lit kitchen, the smell of whiskey and glass dust in the air, and realize that even his promise feels like a bitter goodbye. You feel it deep in your bones. This is the beginning of the end.
But you're not ready to accept that. You can't. You took a holy matrimonial vow to be his wife. Divorce in this family is not tolerated well or…at all. It is bad enough that you ran off and married the other man.
The bar is exactly the way you imagined it. Very classy, but also up to date. Lots of emerald green decor, must be Hoseok's influence on Princess. Anubis is very quiet in the morning, as all its visitors come very late at night.
You trace the edges of the countertop with your fingers, cool beneath your touch.
Princess leans against the bar, sipping her cup of coffee, her gaze wandering out the tall windows. “It's weird seeing it like this,” she murmurs. “All empty, quiet… nothing like the chaos at night.”
“I never pictured you as a bar owner, though.” You nod, setting your cup down with a soft clink. Princess chuckles softly, the sound warm and easy.
“Neither did I, honestly. I'm so tired of it. But it's mine, and you know how it is in this family when it comes to ladies working.” She glances at you, eyes sharp but gentle.
“How are you and your fella?” You smile faintly, tracing the rim of your coffee cup, changing the topic.
“We're fine. Mark's been helping out with Anubis a lot lately.” Mark? You try to quickly mask the surprise on your face by drinking your coffee, but your irises widen. You have the question on your tongue, but opt not to force the family's expectations on her more than they already are.
You and Princess are like little twins since birth. Your physical similarities run high, too; they used to mistake you two. She is the only one, apart from Yoongi, you trusted to keep a secret. So when you decided it's time to fly, she never told a soul. Nor that you kept in touch. Yoongi didn't tell anybody either. But…he had no one to tell, apart from his grandma at the time. He knows you'd never dare to run for the hills when his grandpa was among the living. The punishment would be too severe.
“It's good to have someone you can rely on, innit?”
“Sounds like you've got a lot on your mind, Y/N. More than just Luke, huh? Everything fine?” Princess studies you for a moment, her gaze softening. You used to wear your hair like hers, but the long, honey-glazed ponytail just feels like you more.
“Yeah… more than I ever expected.” You glance down at your cup, swirling the coffee idly, thinking of Yoongi, the fertility tests you've done this past month, the tension in your marriage that seems to linger. Even your parents sense it now. Sunday tea after service is awkward and you don't remember it being that awkward, ever.
“Well… at least you're here now. Back home. You've got people who care enough to notice.” You nod slowly, letting the silence settle, but there's so much understanding in her eyes. Luke doesn't look at you this way anymore.
“But he doesn't, and it's killing me–” a loud crash from the back room echoes through the empty bar. A set of curse words follows, from a voice you don't really recognise.
You ready yourself to stand up from the bar stool, but loud, quick and heavy footsteps going up the metal stairs stop you. Princess moves behind the bar to see what exactly is going on when Namjoon shows up at the stairs at the end of the bar, rushing to the landline behind the bar. Jacket unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up, the usual calm in his expression you remember replaced by the clipped efficiency of a man used to handling messes. He is aged, but like fine wine. He's also jacked up, not the skinny boy you remember anymore.
“What the hell happened?” Princess calls over to him as he rushes past her. Dialling a number.
“Peaches cut herself,” Namjoon throws over his shoulder, voice low but tight. “Badly, by the looks of it. She dropped a wine bottle, and a shard cut her.” Princess curses softly under her breath.
“She needs to go home and sleep, dammit. I told her to take last night off.”
“She won't rest. You know how she gets—always trying to prove she's fine.” The phone clicks as Namjoon pauses, listening to the ring. He exhales sharply. You watch him, stunned for a moment. The room feels both familiar and strange, the faces older, the air heavier.
“I need you to get down to Anubis, ASAP.” He barks into the phone and slams it down again, running back towards the stairs, only to stop himself right in front of the curved railing.
“Y/N?!” His eyes catch yours, widening slightly in disbelief before softening into recognition.
The sound of your name snaps through the room, echoing faintly against the marble and glass. For a heartbeat, you forget how to breathe.
“Hey, Joon.” You manage a small nod and a shy smile. His mouth parts, but no sound comes out. Just a flicker of emotion that crosses his face too fast to name. Relief, maybe. Guilt. Surprise. All tangled together.
“When did you get back?!” Namjoon's voice carries across the empty bar, low but charged.
You blink, startled by how easily the question breaks through the noise in your chest. “A few weeks ago,-” you say softly, your fingers tightening around the edge of your coffee cup.
“Namjoon-oppa?” A small voice carries itself from downstairs, unmistakably said Peaches.
“I gotta go down. But don't you dare leave without saying goodbye again.” Ouch. You nod curtly and move your cup towards Princess, trying to suggest you'll need one more. The sound of Namjoon's expensive shoes fades beneath the low hum of the morning traffic outside, leaving you and Princess in the quiet aftermath.
“Guess the gang's really getting back together, huh?” Princess exhales softly, folding her arms on the bar.
“You hated it when people called us that.”
“Hated it, yes. But somehow it feels right.” Princess smirks, shaking her head. “Having you back, I mean.” You let out a shaky laugh. A piece of you stayed here when you left. A piece that you've returned to now. A piece that is now walking through the front door in a plain flannel shirt and a medical bag in one hand.
His gaze scans the sunlit room briefly before settling on you, and the air around you tightens. The late morning light spills through the tall windows, warm but sharp, highlighting the lines on his face that weren't there when you last saw him.
“Morning,” he says, voice low, calm—like a tether to something steady, but a small smile plays on his lips upon seeing you sitting there.
“Yoongs,” you murmur, almost instinctively. “Morning.”
“Morning, Yoongs!” Princess lets out a soft whistle, amusement in her tone.
He doesn't respond, just studies you for a moment longer than is comfortable, the quiet intensity in his eyes making your stomach twist.
Then, softly, just for you, he says, “Second coffee, and no breakfast at all.”
You stiffen, caught off guard. Somehow, even after all these years, he remembers all your bad habits. Heat creeps up your neck at the sudden callout.
“I—uh…” you mutter, feeling like a small child being scolded.
“It's fine. Just for today. At least I can take blood samples.” You blink, caught between embarrassment and relief.
“Right… the blood samples,” you murmur, your voice almost a whisper. Yoongi moves past you with his usual measured grace.
“I'll see to Peaches and come get you after I'm done, Larkie.”
You watch him go down the stairs until you cannot see a single strand on his hair. You pause, looking back at the bar, glancing back at Princess, who's leaning casually against the counter with her arms crossed, a smirk tugging at her lips.
“Don't look so worried,” she teases, tilting her head. “It's just Yoongi. Not like he's going to bite—well, not literally anyway.”
“You've been here. I haven't.” You let out a nervous laugh, the sound catching a little on your nerves.
“And? It's still the same Yoongi.”
“I—he's… different now,” you murmur.
“He's just older. Still broody. Still annoyingly precise.” She grins, nudging you lightly. “And you're the same too! Just like I remember you.”
“Only entirely different.” You whisper more to yourself than to her.
It's a lifeline before you walk into Yoongi's world again. Or if you two can reconcile your friendship in the first place is so far, questionable.
“You still can't look at it?” Says Yoongi while screwing the cap onto what you guess is a vial of your blood. You glance away quickly again, opting to count the ceiling tiles instead.
“Nope.” No, you can't. That hasn't changed one bit. Looking at the needle while it pierces through your skin and blood was always something you could not withstand.
“You used to cover your face with your sleeve,” he says, a faint smile ghosting across his lips. “Said it helped.”
“And you used to hold my hand.” His hand stills mid-motion, that small smile on his lips faltering just enough to make your chest ache.
“I did,” he says finally, voice low, almost careful. You glance at him then, the morning light catching the edge of his profile—older now, sharper somehow, but still familiar in all the wrong ways. You look into his eyes a bit longer than you anticipated, getting lost in them. Oh just how wrong this is for you to feel. And for a moment—just one—the world feels like it's 1984 again.
“Anyway–” you cough, clearing your throat, “Luke mentioned you might be able to retrieve the samples afterall, so he doesn't have to…you know?” Yoongi lets out a quiet scoff that turns into a soft laugh, shaking his head. He caps the second vial, labelling it neatly before glancing at you from the corner of his eye.
“Ah, yes. Luke,” he says dryly, rolling the name like it's a bitter pill. “Man was thrilled to see me again and again, you know. Practically radiating joy.”
“Crap, I knew I should have gone with him. Was he mean?” You ask with little soul within your body, because you just know Luke would never be nice to Yoongi. Ever.
“Mean?” he repeats, his tone light but edged with irony. “He stood five feet away, arms crossed, looking like he was about to throw a punch if I so much as breathed wrong.”
“He's always been like that with you.” You can't help but laugh. The sound slips out before you can stop it.
“Oh, I noticed,” Yoongi replies, dry amusement flickering across his face. “He gave me this look when I walked in—like he couldn't decide whether to shake my hand or sanitise it.”
“And what did you do?” You snort, covering your mouth with your palm.
“I smiled,” he says simply, as if that's an explanation enough. “Said, 'Good to see you too, champ.'”
“You didn't.” You burst out laughing this time, shaking your head.
“I did, kill 'em with kindness they say…” he insists, mock-offended. “He nearly combusted on the spot.”
The laughter fades slowly, leaving behind a warmth that feels both familiar and dangerous. The corners of his mouth lift just slightly, that old, knowing look softening his features.
“I already retrieved them. They're currently in the freezer labelled… Shelley's legacy, he insisted,” Yoongi leans against the metal cupboard and glances at the ovulation test you took earlier.
“Larkie?” He calls, his voice softer now, almost intimate. “The results came from the lab this morning.” You straighten in your seat at the sudden shift in his tone—no longer teasing, no longer the easy warmth that had filled the room a heartbeat ago.
“And?” you ask, even though your stomach already twists in anticipation. He exhales through his nose, slow and measured, before turning the paper toward you. His thumb rests at the edge of the page, tapping once before he speaks.
“Everything looks… promising,” he says finally, voice low, deliberate. “Your hormone levels are fine enough. You may have hypoglycemia, but it is not severely affecting your ovulation cycle. Not in my expert evaluation.”
“You don't have to make it sound so… scientific.” You blink, trying to process the words, the weight of promising pressing against your chest. Relief fights with disbelief, and your fingers curl tightly in your lap. Yoongi leans a fraction closer, his gaze darkening, almost magnetic.
“In other words,” he murmurs, thumb lingering at the corner of the paper, “you can conceive. Your body just needs a little… attention.”
The room feels smaller somehow, charged with something between reassurance and something else you can't name. That familiar, dangerous warmth settles along your spine. Even as your pulse hammers in your ears, you notice the slight curve of his mouth, the deliberate softness in his tone.
“I… but they kept saying” you start, voice catching, unsure if you're speaking to him or to the paper in your hands.
“Shh,” he interrupts softly, almost tenderly, stepping just close enough that you can feel the heat radiating from him. “This is very good news. We're doing great.” Tears well up in your eyes upon hearing his soothing words.
“I'll need to run a few quick checks. Just to be sure everything lines up, and we can try insemination today. If that's the method you guys wish to use.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, the magic begins.”
Yoongi's theatrics start the moment he glances at you in a very ugly medical gown, sitting on the pink chair with spreads, looking like you still can't get over the fact that he will lay his eyes on your most intimate part. The fact that he's pretending this is some mix between surgery and magic show has your mind whirling.
On the other hand, you have no idea what you expected him to do when he said there is no other ob-gyn in today. You cannot tell this to Luke. Ever. Luke would die if he knew. No….you would definitely die if he got to know.
You lie back in the pink chair, your ridiculous medical gown barely covering you, feeling like a star in a low-budget rom-com.
“I cannot believe this,” you mutter.
“Believe it,” he says, snapping gloves on with a flourish that makes a sharp pop. “Now, deep breaths. The speculum appears in the corner of your eye, and you lose it.
“Nope. Yoongi–I can't–you–ugh” you sputter, squirming as the shiny metal instrument gleams like it's mocking you from the tray. If you can't muster the fact that he will have a full view of your vagina, not only from outside but inside too. Suddenly, the thought of Yoongi putting the little swimmers right into your uterus sounds crazy.
Yoongi arches an eyebrow, completely unfazed, and grins. He sits down at the roller chair and moves closer to your now clasped shut legs.
“Ah-ah-ah,” he says, wagging a gloved finger. “We cannot proceed with the doors closed, my dear. Full cooperation—or at least… partial.”
“I said I can't,” you protest, trying to tuck your knees closer, like somehow that will protect your dignity. “Yoongi–”
“Why?” He asks, putting the speculum back on its tray. You swallow hard, trying to find words that won't betray how flustered you are.
“Because… it's you.”
He blinks, caught off guard for the briefest second. “Me?”
“Yes… You,” you continue, voice trembling despite yourself. “We grew up together. I've known you since forever… and now… you're here, looking… at me like this.” You gesture vaguely to the chair, the gown, the speculum. “I… I just can't… not with you looking like that.”
“Like what?” He tilts his head, a small smirk tugging at his lips.
“Like you care a little too much.”
Yoongi's smirk softens slightly, just enough that it stops feeling teasing and starts feeling… deliberate. “Care too much,” he repeats, almost like he's tasting the words. Then his gaze drops to your hands fidgeting with the hem of the gown. “Well, yes I do, you're my person, remember?”
“It's not… I mean… I shouldn't feel this way. It's just all the paranoid crap Luke splurts about. It's ridiculous.” You flush, wishing the floor would open up and swallow you whole. He leans just a little closer, the chair creaking under him.
“Not ridiculous,” he murmurs. “I never stopped being your person, Larkie. Let me give you the baby you want.” He nods, a faint smile curving his lips. He is doing this for you. You are desperately trying to cling to the thought of this having the outcome you desire. So if this is what it takes….fuck it.
“Okay….Deal.” You swallow hard, feeling your heart still racing, and nod. Yoongi slides slightly closer, lifting the speculum again, but this time with deliberate care, holding it gently like it's a fragile tool rather than a weapon.
You exhale, the tension in your shoulders easing slightly, and realise: somehow, even in this ridiculous, awkward scenario, you trust him enough to let him continue.
Another month passes by. Days go by way too fast.
The faint gleam of his rings catches the light as he drums his fingers against the polished surface. When your mum lured you in for afternoon tea, you did not expect the Kkangpae to be sitting in your father's chair, having “chat” with you.
You've been in this room a hundred times before, but never like this. Never when the silence itself feels like an accusation.
“I know what you did,” he says, quieter now, almost thoughtful, “how you used our grief to make space for yourself.”
“I didn't–” you start.
“You did, because if it weren't for his passing, you'd be married off to who you were supposed to.” He snaps before you manage to speak.
“You saw an opening, and you took it.” His tone turns colder, the words landing with the precision of a blade. "Clever girl."
“You make it sound like—” Your pulse stumbles.
“But it seems to me you've come to change your mind. You've been spending a lot of your time with Yoongi instead of your husband, dearest.” He leans forward, the faint curl of a smirk tugging at his mouth. The words hit harder than you expect — not because they're untrue, but because of how casually he says them.
Like gossip. Like fact.
“Yoongi's helping Luke and me out.” Something in your throat tightens. The sentence feels rehearsed, thinner than you meant it to be.
Kkangpae's smirk doesn't fade. If anything, it deepens. “Helping you,” he repeats softly, as if trying the word on for size. “That's a very generous way to describe it.”
“It's medical. Clinical. That's all.” You meet his gaze, trying to hold your ground. "We have reconciled our friendship but that is it."
“Sure it is, dear. Sure it is.” He laughs, and you are left puzzled. Not because you don't know why he is telling you this, but because you are not sure of Yoongi's intentions yourself, or yours, as a matter of fact.
Joggers pass by in blurred streaks, dogs pull their owners along winding paths, but the bench you and Yoongi occupy feels like its own small planet.
He sits with his arms draped over the backrest, legs long in front of him, head tilted back as he watches a cluster of birds dive across the pale sky. For once, he looks… young. Unburdened. Almost peaceful.
Almost.
“Who's living in the main house?” you ask, biting down on the overly sugared cinnamon bun. The frosting sticks to your lip, and you swipe it away with your thumb before it can drip.
Yoongi watches the motion without really watching it—eyes following, mind somewhere else entirely.
“It's not the main house anymore,” he says after a moment, voice low, steady. “Hoseok's place is. Since his dad took over as kkangpae.”
“Oh.” You swallow, suddenly aware that the sweetness on your tongue does nothing to soften the heaviness settling in your chest. “So… who's in it now?”
“Just my mom.” He says it simply, but the space after the words feels too big. “She won't leave. Says the walls keep her company.”
“That sounds lonely.”
Yoongi huffs a laugh—dry, humorless. “She's always been lonely.”
You let the bun rest in its wrapper, appetite fading. “Have you… talked to your dad since the funeral?” His expression shutters. A breath. A blink. A tightening of his mouth that says don't push this.
“Not really.” Dismissive. Practiced. A clean cut where a wound should be. You look down at your hands, brushing the cinnamon dust off your fingertips.
“Yoongi…” He turns to you so quickly you feel the shift of the bench beneath you. Not angry. Just—present. Intensely present.
“What?” he asks, softer this time.
You open your mouth with something gentle, something meant to comfort him, but the words melt when you see his face. His hair falls across his brow in the wind, a few loose strands trembling against his cheek. He doesn't bother fixing them. He just watches you watching him, and something inside you tilts.
A gust pushes your scarf against his jacket, and the two fabrics catch like they're trying to knot themselves together. You reach to tug it back, but Yoongi's hand moves at the same time.
“Larkie…” he says, your name rupturing from his chest rather than his throat. A warning. A plea. A confession.
You shouldn't look at his mouth. But you look just there, as if it is some instinct.
He notices. Oh, he notices. His gaze dips—slow, agonizing—down to your lips, then up again, dragging heat across your skin like a finger made of fire.
“Why does it feel like this?” you blurt out, nervous.
“Like what?” He whispers, and his voice slips into the space between your ribs.
“Like I haven't been gone at all,” you whisper, and the words break on the way out. Yoongi inhales sharply—barely a sound, but enough to shift the gravity between you. A cyclist passes by, wheels crackling over gravel. A dog barks. Someone laughs. Life moves. But you two stay still.
“Because your heart never left.” You breathe in—and the cold slices straight through you. It feels like stepping into the truth barefoot because you didn't lose your feelings for him.
You see him swallow once, throat working, jaw tight with restraint. “You've been gone from places,” he murmurs, “but not from me.” You blink because if you don't, you might fall into him entirely.
“What are you doing to me?” you whisper, and the words break on the way out.
“I'm not doing anything,” he says quietly. “I'm trying not to.”
You buried them. All your feelings for this male. And he dares to lean in now, a decade later—just a breath— not enough to close the distance, but enough to tell you that he could.
Enough to tell you that he wants to. Enough to prove—without touching you— that you were never gone. Not from him. Not for a second.
Your phone picks the worst possible second to explode with noise. Reality storms back in.
You yank it out, annoyed, breath shaking. The caller ID flashes. Fuck. Luke.
It's mere seconds each time you hang out with Yoongi that you tend to forget you have a husband with whom you're trying to have a baby. What you didn't realize until now is that your time together is not spent in the clinic where he should be examining the progress you are making with conceiving a baby, but anywhere but there.
You go to IUI regularly since you first stepped into Yoongi's life at the beginning of the year and a half of it is almost gone. Luke thinks you and Yoongi are laser-focused on calculations, injections, and hopeful odds.
The phone keeps ringing. Loud. Jarring. Like an alarm you can't silence.
Yoongi watches you, expression unreadable—but you see the moment understanding hits him. A flash of guilt. Of want. Of something dangerous blooming behind his eyes.
“Are you going to answer?” he asks softly.
And suddenly, you can't fucking breathe. What are you doing? Thinking about him this way when you're a married woman for fucks sake. Your fingers twitch around the phone. You should pick up. You should. But your body doesn't move.
Fucking letting yourself want Yoongi, looking at his mouth like you're eighteen again, when you're somebody's wife. A married woman. A woman trying to have a baby with someone else. You keep repeating those words to yourself like they actually are more than words at this point.
The flip-phone keeps ringing in your hand, heart rioting, and realize with nauseating clarity—you don't want to pick up.
He sits in the corner booth, baseball cap pulled low, sleeves rolled down to cover his tattoos. Even like this, unassuming, dressed down, he's still magnetic. People know. They always know and feel the aura around him. You slid into the seat across from him, your smile soft but knowing.
“You look tired,” you said, setting down your black leather prada bag. A courtesy of your husband, back in the day, where everything was at least a little bit normal.
“I am,” he admits, voice low. “Interviews, photos, then more interviews, and then launder it all undercover. You know how it is.” You raised your eyebrows.
“But you love it, don't ya?” Jungkook smirks faintly.
“Sometimes. Sometimes it feels like I'm performing when the cameras aren't on.”
The food arrived - omelette for you, pancakes for him. Of course he remembers your go-to breakfast. For a few moments you eat in silence, just enjoying each other's company. Outside the city moved in reflections across the glass wall of the café. If you'd turn around, you could see the Twin Towers looming over the city.
And then Jungkook's fork paused halfway to his mouth. You followed his gaze slowly.
There, by the door. A girl in a grey blazer, black pencil skirt and designer high heels, the sunlight catching the side of her face. Hair put in an updo, lipstick bright red. She was not anyone you'd ever seen before, but you haven't set foot in this area for a decade and by the looks of Mister Jeon Jungkook, he does see her here often. You can practically hear his hormones booting up.
“And that is?” You smiled knowingly that this woman right there has the undivided attention of this year's notorious heartthrob.
“I don't know yet.” He blinked, then huffed a quiet laugh.
“You look like you'd like to find out.” You leaned back, teasing him. He didn't answer right away, but the little sparkles in his eyes were telling you exactly what you needed to hear. His eyes stayed focused on the young woman, smoothing down her hair while talking to the barista. He ignores you. Man is practically imprinting like a duckling.
To distract him before he embarrasses himself, you ask, “So what's the latest drama?”
He doesn't miss a beat. If anything, Jeon Jungkook loves gossip.
“So you know Princess and Hoseok have been that prodigy power match like since the dawn of civilization?” Jungkook asks, cutting into his pancakes with the resigned air of a man delivering terrible news.
“Mm. The golden duo. Heaven's chosen children. The family's favorite future merger.” You hum in response, knowing these kinds of things from your own experience.
“Exactly,” he nods, leaning back like he's about to get comfortable with the chaos. “Everyone's spent years planning their hypothetical wedding like it's a UN summit.”
“And now…?” you prompt.
“And now Hoseok,” Jungkook says, lowering his voice like a confession, “is planning to propose.”
Your fork stills. “Propose propose?”
“Yeah.” He gestures with his knife for emphasis. “Like—get on one knee, speech memorized, ring that costs more than your apartment, the whole cinematic montage.”
“But she's dating that Mark.” You blink once. Twice. But Jungkook doesn't. It wouldn't be the first time men of this family disobeyed any rules of morality. Except…Yoongi. He didn't do it to you while someone else definitely would.
“There it is. The problem of the century.” Jungkook laughs, sharp and ironic.
“And the family?” you ask even though you already sense the answer.
He tips his head toward you, eyes full of amused disbelief. “They despise him. Every single one. Even the cousins who barely know how to spell their own names can manage an opinion about how Mark is 'not a fit.'”
“Let me guess—wrong pedigree, wrong temperament, wrong everything.” You smirk, flashbacking your mind to a decade ago when everyone was saying those exact words about Luke.
“Wrong universe,” Jungkook corrects. “He thinks Sunday tea after service is actual tea not strategy meetings disguised as goddamn hot liquid.”
“And Princess loves that,” you say.
“Oh, she loves it to an unhinged degree,” Jungkook replies. “She thinks dating Mark is punk rock.”
“I don't know, she looked quite in love when I saw them last time.” You laugh into your coffee.
“You yourself goddamn know there is a difference between loving someone and being in love with them.” He gives you a look—dry, cutting, knowing. The words settle between you, warm and heavy, stirring old truths you didn't ask him to touch.
“Princess doesn't have that with Mark. She likes the idea of him. She likes how easy he is. She loves that he isn't an obligation. That she chose him. But in love?” His head tilts. “She's never looked at him the way she's looked at Hoseok.”
And years later...this all sounds a little bit too familiar.
The truth hangs there—simple, brutal, undeniable. Jungkook has always spoken about other people's relationships like he's diagnosing a disease. Because he simply never had such a thing and now you wonder what he is going to be like – in love with someone.
“But he cannot propose to her when she's dating someone else, can he?”
Your question lands softly, but Jungkook reacts like you placed a match against something flammable. His jaw flexes; he looks away for a second, out toward the café windows where New York moves like a fever dream.
“He can,” Jungkook says finally. “And he will.”
You blink. “You're kidding.”
“Nope,” he murmurs, leaning back in the booth. “Hoseok loves her in a way that makes him blind,” Jungkook continues.
“So what's the family's stance?” you ask instead.
“Oh, they're ready to bulldoze Mark out of the picture,” Jungkook deadpans. “They've already decided Hoseok is the right answer. They're just waiting for Princess to catch up.”
“And if she doesn't?”
“Then they'll make her.” His tone softens into something wry. “You know how it works. You've almost been there.” You swallow once, quietly. He notices, thus he abruptly chooses another member to shit on.
“Alright,” he says, brushing a crumb from his thumb, “if we're gonna talk mess, let's talk Namjoon.”
“Namjoon? The functional one?” You lift your brows.
“Functional,” Jungkook repeats, deadpan. “Sure.”
“Alright then. Hit me.” You chuckle into your coffee.
Jungkook leans forward, forearms on the table, voice dropping into that conspiratorial half-whisper he only uses when he's about to expose someone's emotional crisis.
“Namjoon,” he begins, “is down catastrophic for Peaches.”
“Peaches? As in—” Your mouth falls open.
“Yes,” Jungkook cuts in. “Peaches. Sunshine amongst jackals. Eyes like warm honey. Barely five feet tall and yet somehow capable of bringing six-foot men to their knees.”
“Oh my god.”
“Exactly.” Jungkook leans back with the satisfaction of a man reliving a comedy show. “He's been trying to play it cool, you know? 'I'm just checking on her.' 'She's going through a lot.' 'I like to make sure she eats.'” On that note he digs back to his breakfast.
“What about Mister I'll be bachelor forever?” you ask, tilting your head meaningfully.
Jungkook doesn't even pretend not to know who you mean. He groans. Loudly. Dramatically. Like you've just summoned a demon.
“Oh God. Him.” He drops his fork, leans back, rubs his face. “Kim Taehyung: patron saint of 'relationships are a social experiment' and 'marriage is a scam designed by the Vatican.'”
“Still violently single then?” You choke on a laugh.
“Single?” Jungkook scoffs. “He's in what he calls 'a committed relationship with denial'. And possibly a reluctant Pixie.”
“Pixie? Who is Pixie?” Your eyebrows jump.
“Owns that jewelry store on Fifth. Runs it like she's secretly a mafia accountant. Smart, sharp, doesn't take shit from anyone—except, apparently, from Taehyung.”
“But don't tell on me. Nobody is supposed to know. I promised not to tell anybody until she has a ring on her finger. You know how it goes after a ring.”
“He's doomed, or maybe she is?” You laugh, shaking your head.
“Completely,” Jungkook agrees, smirking like he's savoring the disaster, but his eyes linger on the young mysterious woman.
He doesn't try to hide it this time.
“You're staring,” you say, flat but amused, leaning back in the booth.
“I am not.” He snaps his eyes toward you, mock indignation on his face.
“Uh-huh.” You lift a brow. “The guy who just dropped all the family gossip for fun is suddenly… distracted. By her?”
He freezes, caught mid-denial, and then lets a small smirk slip.
“Right. The girl in grey who's apparently making the heartthrob of New York forget what he ordered for breakfast… nothing to see here. Got it.”
Jungkook huffs, brushing at his hair with one hand, trying to regain composure—but the flicker of interest in his eyes betrays him.
“I'm not—she's… interesting, okay? That's all.”
“Then go and talk to her!” You push his arm across the table, but he's quick to recover.
“You go talk to Yoongi first, Larkie.”
“What?” Your mimic drops into confusion. “I… what are you talking about?”
“You're falling for him again,” Jungkook suddenly states flatly, voice teasing but certain, “and you're trying to convince yourself it's not happening.”
“I—That's ridiculous. I'm not—” Your coffee trembles in your hand.
“I've known you long enough to know exactly when your heart's betrayed your brain.” You blink, searching for a way out, but the café noise feels distant now, as if the world has shrunk to the booth, to him, to this statement hanging heavy in the air. You open your mouth to reply, and he cuts in before you can spin anything.
The words settle between you, teasing, accusing, intimate—and suddenly the café feels smaller, warmer, and impossibly charged.
“I'm married, Jungkook.” you say, trying to inject finality into your words, though your voice wavers just enough to betray you.
Jungkook doesn't flinch. Doesn't blink. He leans back in the booth, steeples his fingers, and studies you like he's reading a particularly interesting puzzle.
“You know what, Larkie?” he says, voice calm, almost clinical, but the smirk tugging at his lips tells you he's thoroughly enjoying the fact that he's getting under your skin. “I was fucking bluffing, but the way your hand started to tremble, makes me think I'm right.”
You sip your coffee to stall, but it's pointless. His gaze pins you. Sharp. Knowing. Accurate.
“You're falling for him again,” he says again quietly, almost casually, but every word lands like a challenge. “And you can try to lie to yourself all you want—but I see it. I've seen it before. And I'm seeing it now.”
“Choose right this time, Larkie.” Your breath catches. “You can fix your mistake. You are not the first woman here to make the wrong choice.”
You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding, coffee turning sour on your tongue. “Jungkook…” It's half a warning, half a plea.
“Think about it at least.” But what Jungkook doesn't know is that Yoongi has been helping you and Luke to get pregnant. And you don't have the energy to explain to another person that you're a broken doll that needs to be fixed, just like everything in your life right now.
“I'll see you at church on Sunday?”
“Do you remember,” he starts, voice low, almost tentative, “that place in Brooklyn with the terrible pancakes?”
“The ones that tasted like wet cardboard?” Your head lifts before you can stop it.
“Yeah. Those.” His mouth curves.
“I can't believe we kept going back.” You laugh before you can swallow it down, a real one—unfiltered, sudden. And he looks at you like he's hearing a favorite song he forgot existed. Something warm slips down your spine. Jungkook was right. Fuck him.
Yoongi's watching you, elbow on the table, chin in his hand—soft, fond, almost startled by the sound of you.
“Feels like forever since I heard that,” he murmurs, like it wasn't meant to leave his tongue. Maybe it's the morning light catching in his hair. Maybe it's the softness in his eyes that didn't exist when your eyes met for the first time after so long. Maybe it's the stupid way you remembered—so vividly—how steady his voice sounded when he said let me help you.
You fold your napkin, suddenly too aware of the warmth spreading in your chest. You don't feel like you're drowning when it is him sitting across from you. You don't feel scared. Or small.
Or broken.
Luke only gives you an awkward smile when you tell him you're going for another IUI. Not happy. Not even supportive. Just… polite.
The kind of smile that belongs to a stranger who's pretending to recognize you.
“If that's what you want,” he'd said, voice flat, eyes already somewhere else.
And maybe that's what hurts most—the way he doesn't argue anymore. Or it is just a quiet before the storm.
With Yoongi you feel… held. Held together with something you were waiting for years. Even when he's not touching you.
“Yoongi…” you start, not even sure what you're trying to tell him. Luke rarely takes you out or at least cares whether you eat or not. Yesterday you sat down to talk to him, but somehow along the way from the bedroom to the living room full of cigarette smoke and whiskey odour, his messy hair and black circles under his eyes, you realized he is in no state able to become a father. That's when it hit you. You didn't even expect to actually get pregnant.
Months of active IUI, months of negative tests that you suddenly started to look at differently. Almost relieved.
Yoongi's orbiting around you almost every second day. He's...present.
“Luke doesn't…” The name tastes stale the moment it leaves your mouth and you swear you can feel the wedding band burning your ring finger.
You look down at your hands. “He doesn't—he's just—we don't…” another deep breath, you need to get this out. “Half the time he doesn't even notice if I've eaten.”
Yoongi's jaw ticks, just once, before he schools his expression. He's careful not to react, but silence can be louder than shouting.
“And here you are,” you continue, voice thinning. “Orbiting around me every other day. Checking if I'm okay. Making sure I eat. Talking to me like I'm… I don't know. Like I matter.”
He doesn't move. Doesn't blink. Just listens.
“You're even helping me have a baby with someone you utterly hate.”
“But I don't hate you.” He replies, turning his head towards you.
“And that's so confusing,” you admit, the confession slipping out like a secret you didn't realize you were holding. “I chose him over you. You should hate the shit out of me.”
Yoongi leans forward—not dramatically, not possessively. Just enough that you feel the air shift between you.
“Larkie,...” he says softly, “doesn't matter if you wouldn't choose me in this or any other life time–” your breath catches. “I'd choose you.”
“Always.” For a moment, you forget how to hold your coffee cup, how to sit, how to exist.
“Yoongi…” You barely get his name out. It slips from your lips like a plea you didn't mean to make.
He doesn't backtrack. Doesn't soften the blow. But there's no heat behind it, no demand—just raw honesty sitting between you, warm and terrifying.
“I'm not asking for anything,” Yoongi continues quietly. “Not a decision. Not an answer. Not some grand confession you're not ready to make.”
“But I'll be waiting for you.” You meet his eyes, the truth crashing into you all at once, molten and quiet, “I'm not going anywhere, never again,” he finishes.
Your morning starts with shouting before the front door even opens. Luke's voice cuts through the echo of the hallway, sharp and trembling with rage. You drop your bag onto the table, chest heaving.
“Luke… please what—”
“Please? Please what? Explain yourself! You said I'm paranoid and now I get this in the mail?” He slams down photographs of you and Yoongi in various restaurants or the central park, or in his expensive Rolls Royce. You freeze upon glancing at the photos that look way too intimate, romantic even, stomach dropping.
“Those… that's not what it looks like—” but it is.
“Not what it looks like?! He is all over you!” he roars, his voice breaking, his hands shaking as he picks up one of the photos and points at it like a weapon. “You think I'm stupid? That I wouldn't see it? You lying to me, sneaking around with him—after everything I've done for you, after everything we've built?”
“No one else in the world could help you, except the man you were betrothed to? That's your excuse? He fucking wants you!” His eyes blaze, and suddenly the room feels smaller, the air heavier, but you breathe through it. Angry.
“I gave you everything, Luke!” you finally scream, the words raw and shattering. “Everything I had! My time, my body, my career, my money—and I can't even pretend to cum anymore, because I just don't!”
He recoils as if struck, but the anger doesn't die—it sharpens.
“Have you fucking slept with him, you selfish whore?”
“I didn't— our issues, it's not about him—it's about—” You feel heat prick at your eyes.
“It's always about him!” Luke snaps, cutting you off. Silence crashes down after his words. You want to speak, to defend yourself, but the weight of the truth, the very real photographs, all the things you can't undo, pins you in place.
His composure cracks, the façade of control slipping. “You don't understand anything!” he blurts, voice dropping low, almost bitter. “You know what, it's fucking fine, you can suck his dick as much as you like, you fucking whore. I've had other women either way.”
The words hit you like a punch to the gut. Your chest tightens, and you stumble back, gripping the edge of the table to keep yourself upright. You were holding yourself on loose string to be faithful to him, and meanwhile, he was fucking god knows who.
“What?” Your voice is barely above a whisper. “You—what?”
For the first time, the cracks in your marriage aren't just tension—they're gaping chasms. And you realise, with a shiver, that whatever you thought could be fixed between the two of you was gone a long time ago and died today.
You don't remember the drive to the church. Only the way the city bled into streaks of gray through the windshield, how your reflection in the glass looked like someone you didn't recognize—eyes too tired, lips pressed too tightly to speak. Raining season in full stream did not add any value to the painful ache in your chest.
Everything was going perfectly in the little bubble you've created, you went for IUI, was supposed to get pregnant and your marriage to that narcissistic asshole would fix itself. But it didn't and somehow you still feel guilty because you longed to have a family. And even when you realised Luke isn't quite the father material, nor your relationship is healthy enough to even raise a baby, you still fucking want it. Just not with him anymore.
Sitting here, in the soft dim of the church, the echo of your heels still fading across the tiled floor, it doesn't feel like hope. It feels like waiting for a doom, not a miracle.
You lower yourself onto a pew, your hands folding instinctively against your abdomen, as if the gesture could protect what might—might—be growing there. You press your palms together and close your eyes, not to pray, but to steady yourself.
You think about Yoongi again. About the quiet way he speaks when he's explaining something, like every word has already been measured, softened. How he never looks away when you do. And then about Luke—how his voice cracked with anger last night when he told you he cheated. While you were going for IUI's, spending quality friend time with Yoongi and rest of the gang, he was fucking everything that had a hole apparently, paying with your trust fund money.
Seokjin's people confirmed it in less than a day. Everything.
The words Luke said about you being a selfish whore struck harder than you expected, because somewhere beneath the fury was truth—ugly, unspoken truth. You do want that goddamn baby and maybe you cling to Yoongi because he on the contrary was trying to give you what you wanted. You still want it more than reconciliation, more than comfort. You want something to survive this. Something to make all the pain mean something.
Maybe he's right. Maybe he isn't right. Maybe this has become something else entirely.
The stained glass above throws muted colour across your hands—amber, rose, blue—turning you into something almost holy. Almost forgiven.
But you don't feel forgiven. You feel like a woman who's running out of time, sitting in a church where the candles keep burning, and nothing ever really changes.
He slides quietly into the pew beside you, the bench creaking under his weight. He doesn't speak right away—just lets the silence settle between you until it becomes something almost gentle. When he finally does, his voice is soft, careful.
“The service ended half an hour ago.”
You open your eyes slowly, blinking against the fractured light pouring through the stained glass. Something in your chest gives way then—something small and aching. He's here. For you. Yoongi doesn't press. He just waits, eyes on you, steady and patient.
“I should have never left,” you sigh, trying to hold the tears at bay. “I should have listened to you and stayed.” Yoongi's gaze lingers on you for a moment, the faintest trace of concern flickering in his eyes.
“You did what you thought you had to.” He says softly and you shake your head, a small, bitter sound catching in your throat.
“Larkie,” he says, voice low, careful. He leans back slightly, his hands clasped loosely in his lap, his head drops down and you hear him click his tongue.
“I thought London would be different,” you murmur. “I thought if I put an ocean between myself and everything here, I'd finally feel like I could breathe.”
“And did you?” Yoongi turns his head toward you, the faintest crease forming between his brows.
“For a while, maybe. Until I realized this was my oxygen, however fucked up this family is.” You stare down at your hands, at the way they tremble slightly against your skirt.
“He was taking steroids,” you say finally, the words catching on their way out. “Said it was just to get back into shape. But then the team found out. Fired him. He called it politics, said everyone did it—but he was borrowing money to keep it going. Everything we had went into his mess and those stupid fertility treatments.”
Yoongi's jaw tightens, but he says nothing.
“I quit my job,” you continue, almost mechanically. “The stress, the hospital visits—it was too much. I still had student debt, bills, and Luke's anger on top of it all. I thought if I just kept quiet, kept trying, the baby would fix it.”
“Larkie...you..”
“Me, Yoongi, me. I was so fucking delusional. We were in huge debt already, and we both made it greater. Nothing would happen if I haven't left,” you lament, smearing the mascara with your hot tears.
“You weren't wrong to leave, Larkie,” he says, finally meeting your gaze.
“Oh... I sure was, Yoongs. I left because I was scared shitless to be the next Buin.” Yoongi lets out a slow breath, the kind that sounds more like restraint than relief.
“And then mom told me you never even raised from the chair to claim your birthright.” That is the truth. His eyes flicker toward the altar before settling back on you.
“Larkie,” he began, voice low, almost roughened by the sincerity behind it. “It didn't mean anything to me without you by my side.” Your throat tightens and your heart drops to your stomach.
“You don't mean that,” you whisper, even though some part of you already knows he does.
“I do. I've never meant anything more.” His voice drops lower—dangerously low. Your pulse stumbles, your breath catching as his eyes flicker from your mouth back to your eyes. The space between you seems to shrink, charged and fragile all at once. You can smell the faint trace of his cologne—something warm, clean, and familiar.
“Yoongi…” You try to speak, but your voice comes out as a tremor. He tilts his head, close enough now that you can feel the whisper of his breath on your skin.
“You still don't get it, do you?” he murmurs. “You were never just part of this, Larkie. You are it for me.”
The truth hits you so hard you feel it in your teeth. You never stopped loving him.
“You are my entire world.”
You've spent years stacking thoughts on top of that fact like sandbags—marriage, stability, duty, expectations, the quiet hope that love could be built instead of found. But one look at Yoongi now, with his dark hair falling over his brow and that helpless softness in his eyes, knocks every barrier loose. Water pouring through.
“My heart never stopped beating for you.”
You see flashes—tiny, stupid memories you hadn't revisited in years:
Yoongi tying your shoelaces in fifth grade because you didn't know how. Yoongi holding your wrist under the bleachers, thumb brushing just once before he let go. Yoongi being there when fell down and broke the skin of your knee to help you clean the wound. Yoongi sneaking out from family dinners with you. Yoongi stealing the eggnog at Christmas dinner for you.
For a heartbeat, you forget everything else—the church, the arguments, even Luke. All you can see is him, the quiet devotion in his eyes that terrifies you as much as it draws you in. Your hand twitches toward his, fingertips brushing his sleeve. It's enough to make his breath hitch. The tension breaks like a held note about to resolve—he leans in, just barely, and your eyes flutter shut.
Your own lips parted without your permission, a tiny, trembling gasp that seemed to invite him closer. His eyes flickered to your mouth and back, and you realized, almost with shock what is about to happen.
Slowly, impossibly slowly, he leaned in, and your knees almost buckled at the thought. The air between you grew thick, humming with tension. Your breaths mingled, shallow and unsteady. You could feel the heat, the tension, the inevitability.
A feather-light brush—just the most barest touch of his lips against yours. Quick, fleeting, barely a whisper of contact, but enough to make your chest tighten and your stomach coil.
And then—the sharp click of the door swinging open shattered it all.
“Sorry to interrupt!” came a cheerful, completely oblivious voice.
You both jerked apart, your hands falling back to your laps as Yoongi's sharp gaze cut toward the doorway. He exhaled slowly, rubbing the bridge of his nose. The spell was broken, leaving your heartbeat pounding in the sudden emptiness.
“You have got to be kidding me,” he muttered under his breath.
The clinic is unusually still when you push open the door to enter Yoongi's office. The carpet muffles your steps, the air faintly smelling of antiseptic and eucalyptus. A thin stripe of warm light spills across the floor, reaching all the way to your heels. You expected to find him busy with paperwork at this time of the day, yet it seems he still has some patients.
You hear the tiny giggle before you see the little one. It's a soft, bubbling sound, the kind that doesn't belong in the sterile hush of a medical clinic. You pause, hand still hovering near the doorframe, unsure whether you should turn away or keep going. Curiosity wins, as it always does when it comes to him.
You ease the door open an inch.
And then you see them.
Yoongi is seated on the small rolling stool, turned slightly to the side, his posture loose with a kind of effortless ease you've never seen him wear around adults.
A toddler sits on the examination table, cheeks flushed, tiny sneakers kicking gently at the paper sheet beneath them. The little one squeals—another sunny giggle—and reaches out with chubby hands toward Yoongi's collar. And Yoongi… he lets them.
He leans in, lips curved into a soft, quiet smile you've never been on the receiving end of. “Careful,” he murmurs, his voice gentler than you've heard it in years, maybe ever. “You'll wrinkle my shirt.”
The baby coos at him as if deeply apologetic. And Yoongi laughs. A breathy, impossibly tender sound.
Your pulse stutters.
He holds the syringe in his other hand, hidden from the child, ready and precise. Not rushed. Not clinical. He's slower, softer, moving like he doesn't want to frighten the baby, like he knows exactly how vulnerable little things can be.
The baby pats his cheek, and Yoongi blushes. Actually blushes.
“I know,” he whispers to them, carefully lowering their hand. “I'm sorry too.”
You should look away and give him space. Pretend you didn't just see him be gentle in a way that rattles something buried deep in you.
But you can't move.
When he finally gives the injection, the baby barely flinches. He murmurs something soothing as he places a tiny bandage decorated with a cartoon bear on their arm. Yoongi's thumb brushes the baby's skin in a slow rhythm, comforting them more instinctively than consciously.
Something sinks low in your stomach—heavy, warm. He hands the baby back with a small bow, explaining aftercare in that calm, controlled voice he uses when people rely on him.
And then he turns.
His eyes catch yours.
“Didn't hear you come in,” he says, voice sliding back into composure.
You swallow. “I didn't want to interrupt.”
“You don't,” he answers too quickly, too gently.
The mother leaves, the door clicks shut, and the room suddenly feels smaller. Warmer. Filled with the fading echo of his tenderness. He takes a small step toward you, confusion and concern stitched beneath the dark of his eyes. You also take one small step inside the room, and Yoongi's eyes flick down to your mouth before he catches himself.
The tension is its own patient—alive between you, waiting to be addressed, examined, diagnosed.
Yoongi breaks first.
“You weren't at your appointment earlier,” he murmurs, folding his hands behind him like he's trying to keep them from reaching for you. “I was…worried when you didn't even pick up.”
Worried. He was worried.
“Yeah. I... I needed time to think.” You manage to say. He goes still again—this time with a different kind of tension.
“What happened?” he asks, voice dropping into that soft, dangerous calm he uses when he's preparing for bad news.
You inhale. The words sit heavy on your tongue.
“Luke's gone.”
“How gone is he?” Yoongi's expression doesn't change. Not on the surface. But the silence that follows feels like the floor tilting.
“When I came back from the church, he was already gone,” you continue, twisting your fingers together.
Yoongi's eyes flicker—barely. A shadow of something dark and private passes through them, gone before you can pin it down. He steps forward, just one measured pace, like he can't stop himself.
“There's… more, I didn't tell you everything yesterday,” you say finally, before he manages to get to you.
“I assumed so,” Yoongi's eyes don't leave your face. You hesitate. Then—quietly—
“He somehow…got to know….” Yoongi doesn't interrupt. He waits. Always so patient when it matters.
“About…you pursuing me. That's what our fight was about.”
Yoongi exhales slowly, through his nose, like he's tempering something sharp before it cuts. His expression doesn't fracture—doesn't rush to defend or deny—but his jaw tightens, just enough for you to notice.
“And how do you feel about it?” he asks. Not accusing. Not leading. Just careful.
You swallow, throat tight, the question settling into you heavier than it should.
“I…” Your voice falters. You hate that it does. You clear your throat, try again. “I didn't know what to say to him.”
Yoongi watches you like he's listening for something beneath the words. A tremor. A lie. A truth you're afraid to touch.
“That wasn't the question,” he says gently.
You exhale, shaky. “I told Luke nothing happened. Because it didn't.” A pause. “But I didn't tell him it didn't matter.”
That makes him inhale slowly, chest rising beneath the white coat. He doesn't step closer, but the space between you feels like it's shrinking anyway.
Your heart thuds painfully.
He finally steps closer then.
“I didn't pursue you,” he says quietly. “But I stayed where you could find me if you ever needed me.”
There it is. The line between devotion and obsession—so thin it almost disappears.
“Am I a sinner for this, Yoongi?” Yoongi's eyes soften—not with indulgence, but with something older. He studies you like a man who has already forgiven you for things you haven't confessed yet. Not as your doctor. Not even as the boy you once knew. But as a man who has already made his peace with wanting you.
A faint, rueful curve touches his mouth.
“What for?” he murmurs. His gaze flickers to your lips for just a moment longer than it should, then back to your eyes. Your own pulse thrums in your chest, betraying the careful restraint your mind is trying to hold.
“For wanting this–” You barely have time to register what's happening before his hand sweeps up to the back of your neck, pulling you toward him. Your chest collides against his, the wall behind you pressing cold and unforgiving. His lips find yours with a force that steals your breath, bruising, claiming. You gasp into the kiss, every thought scattering, every muscle tightening with disbelief and want.
One of your hands rests on his chest, instinctively bracing, but he doesn't pause. His other hand slides down, warm and commanding, lifting your leg just enough to anchor you against him. The sharp press of his palm against your hip makes you yelp, a sound that mingles with his low, urgent groan. His tongue slips past your lips before you can protest, exploring, claiming, and somehow, impossibly, still gentle.
Time becomes meaningless. You feel your head spin, your lungs burn, and yet you're helplessly suspended in the heat of him, the urgency of his hands and mouth. You finally manage to push one of his hands back from sliding under your skirt, just as his lips part from yours. Both of you are heaving, skin flushed, hearts hammering in the quiet of his office.
“I'm sorry,” he breathes, thumbs brushing against your cheeks as he cups your face. “I got carried away.” His eyes are fixed on your lips, now swollen, glistening with the memory of his mouth.
You try to speak, but words fail. You've never been this close to him, never felt the collision of need and control that pulses in his every movement.
“I wish…” he murmurs, nibbling at your lower lip, a slow, deliberate tease, “…you would see how much I love you.” His voice is low, reverent, dangerous in its tenderness. You can feel the weight of it, the years of restraint and longing distilled into that single, searing sentence. He leans to kiss your lips again but you raise your hand to stop him, your fingers brushing his swollen lips.
Your voice comes out trembling, barely audible over the pounding of your own heart.
“I… I can't,” you whisper, looking up at him, your eyes searching his. “Not like this—not yet.”
He freezes, dark eyes scanning your face, the intensity in them undiminished, but patient, waiting for you to explain.
“I… I need to do this the right way,” you continue, swallowing hard. “I can't just… give in to this while I'm still married. I need… I need to divorce him.” But you already did.
His jaw tightens for a moment, just the faintest flicker of frustration—or maybe fear—crossing his features. Then he exhales slowly, brushing a loose strand of hair behind your ear.
“Are you serious?”
“I am,” you say, voice firmer now, though your chest still trembles. “I want to be with you, Yoongi—crist Yoongi—I need to be with you so badly but I need him gone gone of my life.”
“Larkie,” he murmurs, voice low, steadied with effort. “I'll call Seokjin.”
“We have a good claim. He confessed to you that he cheated.” Seokjin says, fiddling with the gold ink pen with his family crest of a snake as a pattern. You grip the edge of the table as though holding on to it will keep you from collapsing. The anger, the hurt, the relief—they all tumble together, unmanageable, raw.
“Can he ask for half of the trust fund?” You fiddle with your fingers, this whole Luke situation is stressing you out. You have no clue where he is or whether he's coming back at all.
“He could try because you didn't have a prenup,” he says slowly. “But the confession works in our favor. The claim isn't equal—it's weighted. Courts don't look kindly on someone who admits to deceit and breach of trust.”
You exhale shakily, the tension in your shoulders easing just a fraction. Relief fights with lingering anger. Then there is the stinging feeling of when exactly you stopped loving him and started to despise him. Was it the moment he threw glass after glass at you the first month you got back or even sooner when he blamed everything on you.
“Hey...” he leans over the table to caress your hands. You look into his eyes, hopeful, that he will say only those words you actually need to hear right now. “Let me deal with the divorce for you. Consider it done, Larkie.”
“Seokjin…” Your voice is barely more than a whisper, but it carries everything: gratitude, exhaustion, and a flicker of something you've tried to ignore for far too long.
He gives your hands a gentle squeeze, just enough to anchor you.
“You focus on yourself. The rest… leave it to us. You've been carrying too much.”
You nod, the knot in your chest loosening slightly, though the storm of emotions—anger at Luke, fear about the pregnancy, and the pull toward Yoongi—still churns beneath the surface.
But Kim Seokjin is the best consigliere this family could ever have. How so? Because by the time you get back to your apartment, the divorce papers are neatly stashed on the kitchen counter, waiting for your signature. Luke? Gone for good.
You knock on the door, and it swings open almost immediately, as if he was expecting you. He stands there, his eyes soft with concern, and without a word, he pulls you into a tight embrace. You melt into him, letting his warmth seep into your bones.
“Hey there, you good?” he murmurs into your hair, his breath hot against your skin. You nod, even though you're not, because you know he'll understand. He always does.
You stormed out of the apartment the moment you saw the signed divorce papers. It is quite surprising to you that Luke out of all people would sign them willingly. You were his source of income, without you he has nothing. Not that you should worry about that anymore. Yet, the genetic predisposition of this family that stirs in you ignores the obvious elephant in the room for the greater good of your sanity. So you do ignore the way Yoongi looks disheveled, cold, or how his knuckles are bruised. He did it for you.
He leads you inside, his hand never leaving your back, a comforting presence. You find yourself in his living room, the soft glow of the lamp casting a warm light over everything. You sit down on the couch, and he sits next to you, close enough that your thighs touch.
“You sure everything's fine, Larkie?” he asks, his voice gentle. Fuck it. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
“No…it wasn't for a while,” you give him a little smile, shaking your head. “But it will be from now on.”
You lean in, your lips brushing against his, soft and tentative at first, but quickly deepening. His hands find your waist, pulling you closer, you climb onto his lap, straddling him.
His hands roam over your body, tracing the curves of your hips, your back, your thighs. You moan into his mouth, your body already aching with need. You grind against him, feeling his hardness press against you. He groans, his fingers digging into your flesh.
“You sure?” He asks, trying to catch his breath. Yet, his lips find yours again, deeper this time, and you respond without hesitation. Your hands thread through his hair, gripping lightly as if anchoring yourself to him. You feel him shiver, hear it in the soft catch of his breath, and it sends a jolt straight through you.
Time stretches and bends around the two of you. You're aware of every small movement, every brush of skin, every whispered sound of sweet words of devotion, you hear the soft rustle of fabric as you undress each other.
Yoongi's tongue swirls around your nipple the moment he throws your bra away, sucking it in before letting it go with a little pop. He doesn't just kiss you this time; he consumes you, a hand fisting in your hair to hold you still for his plundering tongue. He cups your tits again, biting the soft flesh.
“Can't wait to see these swell,” he murmurs against your skin, his voice thick with lust. He lifts you up gently, before he lays you on the fur carpet he has in front of the fireplace. You feel the heat of it rushing through your body, while his mouth begins a slow, possessive descent down your body.
He nips at the soft skin of your stomach, his hands gripping your hips, thumbs stroking the hollows. He settles between your thighs, pushing them wide, and just looks at you, glistening and ready for him. The raw worship in his gaze makes your own breath catch.
“Look at this perfect little pussy,” he groans, leaning down to press a wet, open-mouthed kiss to your clit. You bite down your lip hard, trying to not go crazy over how horny you are for him.
“Already so wet for me. So ready to take my seed.” He dips his tongue inside you, a shallow, teasing thrust that has you writhing. “Tastes so sweet, my love.”
He works you with his tongue and fingers, a relentless, skilled assault that pushes you higher and higher. He's not just trying to make you come; he's preparing you to take him. You pant for air each time his finger curls inside to find the little spot take makes you scream his name out loud, all while whispering the filthiest promises.
“Gonna pump you so full,” he growls against your folds. “Again and again until it's dripping down your thighs and there's no doubt you're mine.”
One moment you're on your back, lost to the pleasure of his mouth, the next you're face down on the black plush carpet. Some pillow is shoved unceremoniously under your hips, tilting your ass up, presenting you for him. You have no idea when he grabbed it, only that it's there, forcing you into a position of utter vulnerability, of complete surrender.
A sharp, breathless gasp escapes you. This is primal. This is possession. Possession you need.
“Look at you,” he groans from behind, his voice a low, reverent rasp. He runs a possessive hand over the curve of your ass, his thumb dipping down to brush against your slick, swollen folds. “All ready for me. Perfect angle to get in deep. To make sure it takes.”
He kneels behind you, and you feel the heat of him before you feel the press of his cock against your entrance. He drags the head through your wetness, coating himself, teasing your clit with the tip.
“Please Yoongi,” you beg, the word torn from your throat.
“You know I'd give you anything, love.” He lines himself up, the blunt head pushing insistently at your opening.
With one powerful, relentless thrust, he buries himself to the hilt. The angle is devastating. He's impossibly deep, a thick, heavy pressure that feels like it's touching your very soul. A raw, guttural cry is ripped from your lungs. Yoongi lowers his full weight onto your bare back, a warm, heavy blanket that presses you flat against the plush fur of the carpet. There's no space between you, not even an inch of air.
He buries his face in the crook of your neck, his hot, ragged breath fanning across your sweat-slicked skin.
“Shhh,” he murmurs, his voice a low, soothing rumble right by your ear, a stark contrast to the guttural commands from moments before. “Just stay with me. Just feel.”
Each roll of his hips presses you deeper into the carpet, the soft fibers a decadent cushion against the overwhelming pressure of his body. You're completely pinned, utterly possessed, unable to do anything but lie there and take it, take the slow, thorough possession, take the full weight of his desire.
“You're all mine now,” he whispers, his lips brushing against the nape of your neck. He presses a soft, open-mouthed kiss there, a gesture of pure ownership. “Can you feel it? How deep I am? I'm not leaving anything to chance.”
One of his hands slides up your side, his fingers tracing the curve of your ribs before pushing itself between you and the carpet coming to rest over your womb. He presses it while he thrusts into you.
“Gonna put a baby right here,” he breathes, his voice thick with a primal, satisfied awe. “My baby. Swelling you up, making you round and beautiful. Everyone will know who you belong to just by looking at you.”
The thought, spoken so quietly, so intimately, sends a fresh wave of heat through you. Your body clenches around him, a weak, involuntary flutter, and he groans in response, his hips pressing forward, holding himself impossibly deep for a long moment.
He continues the slow, deep rocking, a hypnotic, relentless rhythm that's building a different kind of pressure inside you. His other hand finds yours, his fingers lacing through yours, pinning it to the floor beside your head.
“Look at us,” he murmurs, his voice husky. “So perfect together. Made for this. Made for each other.”
He shifts his weight just slightly, changing the angle of his grinding, and the new pressure sends a jolt straight to your clit. A soft, helpless moan escapes your lips, muffled by the carpet.
“That's it,” he encourages, his voice a low purr. “Let go for me. Let me feel you. Milk every last drop out of me.” The slow tide crests, and your orgasm washes over you, a deep, all-consuming wave of pleasure that steals your breath and makes your entire body tremble. Your inner walls ripple and contract around him, a rhythmic, milking pull.
With a choked groan against your shoulder, he follows you. He buries his face in your hair, his body going rigid, and then you feel it—a deep, pulsing throb as he spills himself into you. He doesn't move, just lets his release flow, grinding his hips in tiny circles as if to press his essence even deeper.
“I love you so fucking much, Larkie.”
He must feel the subtle tremor that runs through you, the silent shift from raw lust to something infinitely more tender. He lifts his head slightly, just enough to press his lips against the soft skin behind your ear. It's a soft, lingering kiss, full of a reverence that steals what's left of your breath.
“I mean it,” he murmurs, his voice still thick with emotion. “More than anything. Gonna give you everything. My name, my child... my whole fucking life.”
He shifts, a slow, careful movement, as if afraid he might break the spell. He starts to withdraw, but you make a small, protesting sound, a desperate whimper at the thought of losing the connection. He freezes, then understanding dawns. A low, soft chuckle rumbles in his chest.
“Shhh, I'm not going anywhere,” he soothes. “Just turning you over. Wanna see your face.”
With a strength that still takes your breath away, he carefully rolls you both, maneuvering you until you're on your side, facing him, your legs still tangled with his.
His eyes are soft, the dark, possessive fire from before banked into a warm, adoring glow. He looks at you as if you're the most precious thing he's ever seen.
“Hi there,” he whispers, a shy, boyish smile gracing his lips.
You can't speak. You can only stare back at him, your vision blurred with unshed tears, your heart so full it feels like it might burst. You manage a watery smile in return.
He leans in and kisses you, a soft, sweet, gentle kiss that's worlds away from the hungry, demanding kisses from earlier.
You wake up to the sound of his breathing before you really wake up to yourself.
It's slow. Even. Too steady for someone who barely slept. He kept drawing an orgasm after orgasm from you during the entirety of the night. With a short break to get you hydrated and fed before your sugar would have dropped way too low. The sweet persistent ache you feel in between your thighs reminds just how punishingly good the sex was. A dull throb that says you were wanted; you were taken apart slowly, you were kept. And beneath that ache sits a quieter, more dangerous thought— you could have had this a long time ago.
The sheets are tangled around your legs, his arm heavy across your waist like an anchor.
“You're thinking too loud,” Yoongi murmurs, pressing a warm kiss into your ruffled hair.
“You make that up,” you slap his naked torso, eliciting a laugh from him and a smile that you can feel in your hair.
“I don't.” His voice is still rough with sleep, warm against your spine. “Your breathing changes when you start worrying.”
You turn in his hold so you're facing him. His eyes are already open. Watching.
“What's the family going to say?” you ask. You are not sure how anyone outside of your closed circle will react to how quickly you got divorced and jumped to Yoongi's bed. Not that you regret it. But there is little doubt of not being accepted when you've run away to begin with. Ran away from Yoongi and your duty as the next Buin to be precise.
“About… all of this.” The question has been sitting in your chest since before morning found you.
He studies your face, thumb brushing a slow line along your side. “They'll talk. They always do.”
“What if they never accept me back? After I ran. After I chose differently.” His forehead rests against yours.
“But you are back, in the right place this time, with me,” he says quietly.
“I am so sorry, Yoongi.” The words sit heavy between your breaths, you roll to your tummy so you can say it to his face, brave enough to do so. “For leaving. For not trusting you back then. For making you wait while I lived a life that only hollowed me out.”
His expression changes—not wounded, not angry. Something steadier. Something deeper.
“You don't owe me an apology, Larkie,” he says.
“But I hurt you. I didn't even give us a chance and chose Luke because I-.”
“You didn't choose him over me,” he replies calmly. “You chose fear over love. And fear is loud. It convinces people.” His hand slides to the back of your neck, grounding, and warm.
“You always had a choice,” he says. “You just finally made the one that brought you back to me.”
“You shouldn't love me this hard. I don't deserve you after everything.”
His answer is immediate.
“I don't know how to love you any other way,” and then his mouth is on yours. Your lips part on instinct, a quiet sound catching in your throat as he deepens it just enough to make your pulse stumble. His other arm slips fully around your waist, pulling you closer until there's no space left for doubt. You kiss him back harder. Desperate to feel him again. Your fingers slide into his hair, grounding yourself in the reality of him, the now of it, the after of everything.
You break the kiss to move to hover over him, laying warm mouthful kisses down to his toned abdomen and before you slide down under the sheets, you glance up to see his jaw locked tight, fists curling in the sheets. You sure can tease too.
You smile against his skin, knowing exactly what you're doing to him. You start with your hands, stroking him slowly from base to tip, your thumb circling the head to spread the bead of moisture already gathering there. He lets out a low groan, his hips shifting instinctively toward you. Leaning in, you press a soft, open-mouthed kiss to his inner thigh, feeling the muscle jump beneath your lips. You do the same to the other side, your gaze never leaving his.
“Fuck, love, please.” Yoongi groans. You finally lower your head and take him into your mouth, just the tip at first. You swirl your tongue around the ridge, tasting the salt of his skin, and his hand flies to your hair, his fingers tangling in the strands. The grip is tight, a silent command for more.
You oblige, taking him deeper, your lips creating a tight seal as you begin a slow, deliberate rhythm. You hollow your cheeks, increasing the suction, and his head falls back against the pillows, a guttural moan tearing from his throat. You use one hand to stroke what your mouth can't reach, twisting in time with the movements of your head.
You pull back until just the head is resting on your tongue, flicking the sensitive underside with the tip of your tongue before sinking down again, taking him even deeper this time. You relax your throat, letting him hit the back of it, and the sound he makes is pure, unadulterated pleasure. His hips begin to thrust, meeting your movements, a desperate, primal rhythm.
You can feel him getting closer, his entire body tensing, the hand in your hair tightening almost to the point of pain. You don't stop. You speed up, your movements becoming more urgent, more demanding. You look up at him through your lashes, and the sight of his face—contorted in ecstasy, eyes squeezed shut—is what sends you both over the edge. He pulses in your mouth, a hot, salty flood spilling down your throat as he cries out your name
You swallow every drop, milking him gently until he's spent, his body going limp beneath you. You release him slowly, pressing one last soft kiss to his tip.
Pixie's shop is tucked between a designer shoe store and a prestigious boutique you once shopped in yourself.
“He's gonna kill us.” You mutter under your breath, but Princess is sure to catch it.
“Then he should have been more careful when he complained about the wannabe Nancy Drew being after his dick.” She shouts back. You don't know whether it's the hot weather or she is extremely fast today.
Inside, everything glows—warm halogen lights trapped in glass, gold laid out like offerings, diamonds catching the world and breaking it into sharp little stars. Princess slows the second you step inside.
Not you.
Her.
She's standing rigid beside you, eyes locked on the woman behind the counter.
Pixie.
She's bent over a velvet tray, tweezer in hand, dark curly hair falling down under her breasts carelessly, lips pressed in quiet concentration as she resets a crooked diamond. She hasn't noticed you yet.
Princess takes one hesitant step closer. Two.
It's subtle, but you feel it—the shift in her breathing, the way her shoulders draw tight like she's bracing for impact.
“So that's her,” Princess whispers, trying to hide her awe.
“Well of fucking course, she is the only one here,” you angery-whisper back to her, feeling how the heat is trying to climb up your head. Does she not have air conditioning or something? You're sweating your tits off.
“Can we pretend to shop and then go, I am hungry.” You whisper again, begging her to just quickly leave here before Tae will somehow appear and kick you out himself for snooping.
The moment her eyes land on Princess, something… changes. Nothing obvious. Just a pause that lasts half a second too long. Recognition flickers and vanishes behind politeness.
“Can I help you?” Pixie asks, she indeed looks like a fairy.
“We–” Princess starts and immediately stops when she hears your ragged breathing. It starts as heat again—familiar now, wrong, rolling through your chest and down your spine. Your grip tightens on the edge of the glass case without you meaning to.
“Larkie?” Princess turns first. You try to answer but your stomach twists violently instead.
The shop tilts. Light fractures. The diamonds blur.
“Whoa—” Pixie is suddenly moving to circle the counter, “a little help here?!” she shouts to the back. Your nausea hits hard this time. Shit. You definitely forgot to take your glucose pills this morning before you left the townhouse. Yoongi is performing a surgery today, he won't be able to pick up any phone nor attend to you. How could you forget the fucking pills again when all Yoongi did the past month since you two started to live together is remind you to fucking take them so this won't happen, ever.
“Larkie, look at me. Hey. Look at me.” Princess is instantly at your side, voice sharp with fear.
“Yoongi's gonna kill you, Princess,” the male voice is the last thing that echoes in your ears before the curtain shuts.
You've never felt fragile like this. Not after London. Not after Luke. Not after anything. The emergency room swallows you whole. You're not sure what hospital this is, just that they need to change the bulbs in their ceiling light you kept staring at for the last hour you are awake.
You did forget to take your pills, that much the barely paid doctor confirmed. What he told you after though sent you spinning again.
You laugh weakly. It comes out wrong. Broken at the edges.
“That's not possible.” Tears fall down your eyes. A few months back this is all you ever wanted. Now you're not entirely sure. You told Yoongi that you'd like to wait with any major step in your relationship and just enjoy being a couple. This is far too serious. More permanent than if he'd proposed.
The doctor doesn't argue with you. She just turns the chart slightly so you can see it, like proof will soothe you.
“You're eight weeks along.”
Eight.
Weeks.
Your breath leaves your body in one sharp pull.
Eight means two months. Eight means your last IUI was a success. Eight weeks means it is not Yoongi's.
Your chest tightens as the calculation loops in your mind. You don't yet know which part of your past just came back to claim you. Or what to do with this information.
“Doctor Min Yoongi is on his way. He's your partner right?”
The word partner lodges somewhere between disbelief and dread. You nod mutely, unable to speak, staring at the ceiling tiles like they might explain everything.
Your life just started to mean something to you again. With Yoongi and now it's all gone.
You are carrying a baby. A baby that is not part Yoongi. Morals tell you that you should contact the poor excuse of a father that Luke would be, but your heart beats for Yoongi and his understanding of this situation. But to ask him to raise someone else's child? It feels unspeakable, unthinkable, dangerous in ways that have nothing to do with law or logic.
You think of the late Kkangpae and what he'd say about this situation.
You close your eyes, trying to steady your racing thoughts. But there's no quiet, no patience left in your chest. Only the steady, unstoppable thrum of life you carry inside you, and the impossible decision waiting for you on the other side of the door.
“I'll keep an eye on her with those glucose pills, Doctor.” You hear his voice muffled behind the door before they swing open. You open your eyes just in time to see the door swing open, and there he is.
Standing in the doorway, calm, controlled, his presence filling the sterile space with something warmer than the hospital lights could ever provide. His eyes sweep over you, taking in the IV in your arm, the pallor of your skin, the quiet panic you're trying to hide.
“I…” You start, voice caught somewhere between fear and need, but it falters. He steps closer without hesitation, his gaze never leaving yours.
“I'm here, love, all's gonna be fine” he says softly, and just like that, the impossible decision feels slightly less like a wall and more like a path—uncertain, terrifying, but not insurmountable.
“But it won't,” you whisper, the weight of truth breaking past the comfort of his tone. Your eyes meet his, wide, trembling. “It won't be fine… not this time.
The air between you tightens. Yoongi doesn't flinch, doesn't pull away. Instead, his hand finds yours across the hospital bed, strong and warm.
“Hey...hey, what's this nonsense?” he says quietly, deliberately, like the simplest words could bend fate itself. “Of course it's gonna be fine, you just forgot again — that happens—”
“I'm pregnant, Yoongs,” you breathe, the words heavy, raw, impossibly fragile.
You're trembling in the hospital bed, still reeling from the impossible news, when Yoongi's hand tightens around yours—not softly this time, but possessively. His lips curve into a smile that's almost too wide, too sharp, and your chest flutters against fear and something else you don't quite want to name.
“That's such wonderful news, Larkie, why would you—” His eyes shine with something close to joy—pure, unrestrained joy that sends shivers down your spine. You blink, caught off guard by the happiness in his tone.
“I'm eight weeks,” you choke on a sob and he leans closer, until his forehead rests against yours, his breath warm and steady.
“We're gonna have a little baby, Larkie” He whispers before pressing his lips onto yours softly. He exhales through a quiet laugh, low and strange and full, like relief cracking something open in his chest. His thumb brushes slowly along the inside of your wrist, right over your pulse.
“But you know that means the baby is Luke's—” he laughs in a way you've never heard, utterly confusing you.
“Yoongs… it can't be yours. The IUI—Luke's samples—” Your voice comes out thin.
“Never even came close to your uterus,” the sentence lands strongly. Heavy. Kicking the air out of your lungs.
“What?” Your brain shakes with confusion.
“I switched them,” he continues calmly, like he's confessing to rearranging furniture. “The first time. The second. Every time.” His thumb presses more firmly into your skin, perfectly aligned with your racing heartbeat. Half a year of IUIs he was lying to you. “You were always going to carry my child. I made sure of it.”
“I promised. Didn't I?” He says when he is satisfied with how the realisation stretches along your face.
Your world tilts.
I will give you a baby.
“That's… that's not—” You try to pull your hand back, but his grip tightens instantly—not painful, just absolute. Unavoidable.
“Hush,” he whispers, leaning in closer. His nose brushes yours, intimate and terrifying all at once. “Worries aren't good for the baby”
“You lied to me,” you whisper, not believing what he just told you.
“Yes,” he agrees softly. No shame. No hesitation. “Because you would've said no right away. And I couldn't allow that when you were already back, I'd lose you all over again.”
“You used the fact it was hard to conceive for me.”
His jaw tightens at that. Just a fraction. Enough to give him away.
“I used the fact that your husband was unable to give you a baby,” he corrects quietly. “That every month felt like a punishment you didn't deserve. That you were bleeding hope into hospital sheets for a man who wouldn't do the same for you.”
Your chest stutters. His thumb sweeps under your eye, catching a tear before it falls. The gesture is almost gentle.
“You decided my life for me.” Something in your stomach twists that has nothing to do with nausea. He took something that was supposed to be only for you and twisted it in the darkest way possible.
“I protected our future,” he corrects, voice dropping lower. “You were breaking yourself for a man who never deserved you. I just… redirected the miracle.”
“But this is so fucked up,” you spit the words out, and his eyes darken.
“Your poor excuse of an ex-husband couldn't give you a baby because of his slow swimmers,” he says calmly, almost conversational, “and he bribed the doctors to put all the blame on you. That isn't fucked up in your eyes?”
The words land one by one, precise. Surgical.
“That's—that's not possible. They ran tests. I saw the—” Your chest tightens so hard it hurts.
“You saw what they were paid to show you,” Yoongi cuts in gently. Too gently. His thumb resumes its slow, circular motion against your palm, grounding and trapping all at once. “Luke was only fertile with ambition and nothing else. He never loved you like I did Larkie, can't you see it?”
“But that still doesn't give you the right to do this to me.”
“You were drowning with him,” Yoongi continues, voice level, almost tender. “Debt. Lies. Steroids. Doctors paid to humiliate you with charts that made you think your own body had betrayed you. You came apart piece by piece while he played the victim.”
“So your solution was to baby trap me?” Tears blur your vision. He tilts his head. Studies you.
“You wanted the baby! I only tethered you,” he corrects. “There's a difference.”
“You took my consent. My future. My—” Your chest heaves.
“Our child,” he interrupts gently. The word lands like a brand.
“You don't get to rewrite that either,” he adds. “You're carrying Min blood now. Mine.” His gaze drops briefly to your stomach again, reverent and terrifying all at once. “Just like you were always supposed to be.”
“You can't actually think I will—”
He smiles then.
Slow. Knowing. Dangerous.
Your breath vanishes when you really take him in. You know that glance.
The resemblance is cruel in its precision. And you see it only now when it's too late.
“Careful,” he murmurs, leaning in until his lips brush the shell of your ear, his voice velvet-soft and razor-edged all at once. “You wouldn't want to be on house arrest now, would you?”
The words are spoken like a joke. Like a tease. A painful inside joke in this family when someone doesn't want to submit. But his hand is still on your stomach. Still claiming. Still anchoring you to the bed, to the room, to him.
“You're overwhelmed,” he continues gently, as if he didn't just slide a knife between your ribs with that sentence. “That's normal. Your hormones are everywhere.”
The realization settles into your bones like ice. The baby you thought would ruin everything has, instead, sealed you to him completely.
You ask yourself whether this is what it takes for you to have a baby. When the circumstances don't unsettle you the more he speaks of your future together, as a family, you embrace the feeling that makes you different from other women—you were born into this syndicate. You were aware of their delusional view of the world, couldn't stop it even if you wanted to, whether you like it or not. And still chose him.
After all, it was undeniably you who put this idea into his head when you bawled your eyes out, at his clinic, that you cannot have a baby. So he promised to give you one. Just not with your ex-husband.
He knows the rhythm of your heartbeat all too well.
You let your head turn into his palm. Let your cheek rest against the warm certainty of his hand. You are tired. He always had you in the corner without you even realizing he pushed you there slowly. Your breath evens out, traitorous and calm, even as your mind understands exactly what kind of cage this is.
Not bars.
Arms. His arms. The Min Yoongi's arms.
“You're safe,” he whispers. “You're pregnant. You're mine. And I will burn the world before I let anyone—including you—sever the heartbeat.”

INTERLOGUE
Yoongi closed his eyes for a moment, the rush of the current sounded like a heartbeat that wasn't entirely his. He let the thought sink, what it meant to hold such power, what it cost to let go and do the final step. He needed to hold for just a little bit longer.
The Hudson river was black glass at midnight, only the moon reflection on the water's surface visible. Yoongi stood knees deep inside of the river, not far enough to let the stream take him away.
The cold clung to Yoongi's skin, a reminder of what he'd chosen. It wasn't rage that filled him. His voice still lingered somewhere in the back of his mind. She will find out.
No she won't. He will make sure she won't find out. Or at least, she won't find out he did it.
He didn't look down, not even the moment his body stopped moving frantically, the tight hold he had on his wrists went loose.
The river would keep its silence. So would he.
