Pokedex art blog for @somnisnake! I've been drawing a johto Pokemon before every art session and wanted to make a seperate blog for the lil guys I draw! Will eventually get around to other regions. Every lil guy is transparent (if not something is very wrong lol) and the shinies have sparkles! Click them!

Every Pokemon should be tagged with its name, types, and region, and any subcategories like starter or pseudo legendary so if you wanna find anything specific you should be able to find it!

#171- Lanturn

Like with her pre-evolution, wanted Lanturn's pose to focus on her bulbs, and i think it turned out super cute... reminds me of art of dolphins and shit...

Lanturn is so CUTE.... big chubby lightbulb animal.... and as always I love anything with a pink shiny. She's so helpful too! Illuminate is great for shiny hunting or looking for low encounter pokemon, and she can carry a bunch of hms, especially in the games with lots of water based hm moves, AND she gets moves like thunder wave for utility... she's got it all

Shockingly, according to the 'Dex, this thingie is a predator! Using her lures to blind prey suddenly then swallowing it whole... damn. On a lighter note, a number of entries mention its nickname as 'the Deep Sea Star', and that if you look down over the edge of boats you can see schools of them under the water, making the sea look like a starlit night.... lovely

#170- Chinchou

Wanted to pose this one to focus on the lil lightbulb lures... VERY happy with the glow effect here tbh. Fun lil thing- when i was drawing this, I had very recently drawn a chinchou for a comic that I haven't yet posted anywhere, so i had done a glow there too and it made it pretty easy to figure out here lol

Chinchou is sooo cool <3 I love water/electric as a type combo... Johto water types are just really good across the board. The shiny is a subtler one, but I REALLY like it. I got one recently in X chainfishing and she's very cutes

The 'Dex talks about its use of its bulbs to communicate on the dark ocean floor, which fits with its encounter locations in Hoenn :0c also Ultra Sun mentions it being helpful as a night fishing companion :3 cute!

#169- Crobat

Knew IMMEDIATELY what pose I would want for this fella.... always a huge fan of the Funny Bat Pose...

Crobat has been a favorite of mine since I first played Pokemon Stadium 2 when I was like. 6 or 7? I'd never played video games b4 lol and had no idea what any moves did... I was fighting a trainer with a Quagsire and couldn't figure out how to beat them cause Surf was so strong, but I realized Crobat could Fly over the waves.... still lost to that trainer and never beat them but it cemented a love for Crobat for me :3

According to the 'Dex, those smaller wings are just... Golbat's legs developed into more wings? Hilariously, there's mentions that while this makes Crobat a better flier, it makes it hard for it to stop and rest lol. It does say they can switch which pair of legs it uses to fly which is neat!

#168‐ Ariados

I really like this angle; Ariados' weird back leggies are one of her most stand-out features to me, so I wanted to make sure I captured them well.

Ariados is such a strange and wonderful little freak of a Pokemon... so weird for a spider Pokemon, especially as one of the first spider Pokemon... the unicorn horn, the legs attached to her back, the weird segmented leggies and chompy mandibles and stinger... little freak.

Later 'Dex entries talk about its aggressive hunting patterns and strong silk, but older entries almost universally talk about how it spins silk from its mouth AND ass, and that its... hard to tell which is which.... huh????

#167- Spinarak

Spidders!! Very cute spidey... this pose was fun, think i captured the cutesy I wanted with it...

Spinarak is wonderful... big ol smiley face on her abdomen, cute widdle leggies, chompy mouth... not accurate as a spider, but nonetheless cuties. Love the shiny too <3

The Dex mostly describes Spinarak's patience waiting motionlessly for prey to enter its web, but Sun's Dex mentions that its preferred prey is Cutiefly! Which makes sense :0c if i remember correctly, the spider Spinarak is based on is from Hawai'i? I wonder if spinarak is one of those pokemon who was introduced in a region they aren't native to, like Cufant and Yungoos :0c

#166- Ledian

I LOVE Ledian, i know she's not good but she's so COOL... there's one in the Darkrai movie and i loved seeing everytime that movie came on. Wanted to give her a cool superhero pose cause. For a special attacker she's oddly punch-focused...

The Dex describes it as nocturnal, as it uses starlight for energy, and that its spots glow in the starlight. Interestingly, it seems like Ledian's dex entries used the beta design for a while? Describing the "star-like patterns" on its back, which modern Ledian doesn't have :0c i find that interdasting

#165- Ledyba

Really love this pose lol, bro said 🥺👉👈 just felt it fit Ledyba well with her big ol eyes. I drew a male Ledyba but she can be whatever she wants I think

Ledyba... oh Ledyba....... I love her so so dearly but she's TERRIBLE.......... crazy to me that she's a special attacker when her whole thing is.... punching??? But she's SO cute... and she tries so hard. Give her Focus Blast its fine....

Described in the Dex as so timid, it is unable to move without a group.... lil guyyyyyy..... also that they communicate with each other by secreting aromatic goo.... bug stuff

#164- Noctowl

Had fun with the pose on this one!! Don't look too long at the different sized wings, its supposed to be a perspective thing b it didn't come out quite right lol. I really wanted to capture the weird, all knowing night creature thing and I think i did a good job :3c

Noctowl will always have a place in my heart; my Noctowl Mizaki in a HeartGold nuzlocke I did solo'd Clair, with help from air slash and her king's rock. She got INCREDIBLE flinch luck and honestly I don't think we would've won if she hadn't handled that fight like a champ. Also, ofc, like every other anime fan, think its cool as hell that Ash got a shiny Noctowl lol

The dex entries are cool as hell for this thing- it flies silently at night, it turns its head 180 degrees to increase its intellectual power, its eyes can see incredibly far in the dark and it never fails to catch prey in the dark... cool as fuck. But all of them are topped by Ultra Sun's entry, which calls it 'the emperor of dark nights'.... BRO THAT FUCKS

#163- Hoothoot

VERY happy with this one, i love her big ol feeties and stubby littol wings... wonderful lil beastie

Hoothoot is the bird of all time; she's so round and cool to find even if she's a super common pokemon (like, imagine wandering into ur local woods to explore and finding a baby owl,,,, cool as hell). I love the big eyes and clock gimmick, and how rarely u see both feet at once lol

The dex describes Hoothoot as having a very accurate internal clock, so much so that some people keep hoothoots instead of other kinds of clocks, and also that they only like to stand on one foot hehe. I like that a couple entries describe them as 'a wise friend' :3

#162- Furret

Like with Sentret, i really wanted to just fully lean into the adorable factor with this one <3 long creecher..... so cute

Furret is so peak..... just a cute lil tube...... there's one in Pokemon 4ever which is a highlight of that movie for me. I love her stripes, her widdle owo face, her pawbs, her cute battle animations, EVERYTHING

The Dex talks about its burrows, which are made long and skinny so Furret can fit down in there but other Pokemon can't, and that you can't tell where the body and tail begin and end.... beautiful. Also that the mother furrets curl around their babies to calm them down 🥺

#161- Sentret

I really wanted to go all out with the cuteness with this one... Sentret doesn't get as much love as her evolution so I wanted to give her her time in the spotlight <3

Sentret is my favorite of the regional rodents, she's ADORABLE... Her big stripey tail and nubby widdle paws... I'm kinda sad Furret doesn't keep the bunny ears but they wouldn't look as cute on her...

The dex describes Sentret as VERY nervous and cautious, standing on its tail to see over long grass and keep watch, even being unable to sleep from anxiety when separated from their pack... poor lil guy. The tail-standing is very cute tho <3

#160- Feraligatr

This pose was interesting to figure out, but I always think Feraligatr looks coolest when its in more animalistic poses :> very happy with how it came out.

Oh Feraligatr... I love her, but she has, most consistently out of all the Johto starters, the WORST sprites. There's the back sprites w ass cheeks, and her gen 6 model is so stiff looking. Thankfully, they gave her a less stiff model for Paldea, and I'm assuming thats what they will use for Z-A... at least her Silver sprite is cool!

Dex entries talk about how viciously Feraligatr tears up its victims, but mostly how fast this thing is.... which is scary lol...

#159- Croconaw

I LOVE croconaw.... big fat silly guy!! I think he's my current favorite out of the johto midstage starters, I love his silly caveman pattern tummy and his big goofy face and his stumpy legs, perfect being

I also really like this pose I put him in... all puffed up and trying to look cool. Dorkass animal

Also- side note. I'm getting the color palettes from the hgss spritesheets for all of these, and croconaw's shiny sprite is SO half assed, the colors are all fucked up... they really phoned that one in

The dex says croconaw has 48 teeth, and that it regrows lost teeth, which is good cause its teeth are hooked backwards to rip and tear prey... gnarly

#158- Totodile

I STRUGGLED with this pose, but I wanted to stick it through... it fit totodile's energy just right! Chompy lil baby

I loooove Totodile 🥺🥺 Ash's Totodile is one of my favorites of his pokemon, and I love when they follow behind u in hgss and chomp their lil jaws.... precious. I'm a big fan of his red eyes and spines, its a fun color contrast against that deep blue, and I love his mint green shiny <3 beautiful color

Dex entries talk about how powerful his lil jaws are, with trainers needing to be careful to avoid getting hurt. One entry mentions that they think they are playing but they're too strong 🥺 babey.....

#157- Typhlosion

This pose was fun to do; wanted to do something that felt like it was doing Flame Wheel. Sonic the Hedgehog style

I fell in love with Typhlosion the minute I discovered Pokepasta, and while Meganium has taken its place as my favorite of the Johto starters, this big weasel/porcupine/hedgehog monster still holds a very special place in my heart. I love seeing Typhlosion's following sprite in HGSS; brings back nostaligic feelings for my initial, and never completed, playthrough of soul silver, where I didn't read Elm's call and didn't know to go to Goldenrod, and ended up randomly wandering Dark Cave trying to get to Blackthorn lol. Good times

Its dex entries describe this thing as ANGY; when its mad, it puts off enough heat to cause a haze around its body, and it rubs its fur together to cause explosions. Cool as hell

#156- Quilava

This pose was very fun to do; y'know how long animals like cats or weasels or snakes will lean out over a surface like. Way farther than they should be able to? Love it

Quilava's fun! One of the plainer mid stages but I love it all the same <3 its interesting to me that it has flame glands on its head AND butt... then Typhlosion only has them on its neck.

Dex entries still lean into the porcupine inspiration, with it turning its back to threaten enemies away before burning them. Also, its fur in inflammable! Which i find fun :3
