The second Cuphead spots Melody he rushes up to the bard and jumps up to revenge-boop her, giggling as he runs away afterwards. Maybe not as stylish as /teleporting/ away, but an attempt was made. - Cupbrother

Luckily for the young cup, Melody happened to be one of the shorter residents of the isles, so booping her nose wasn’t out of the question in the slightest.

Unluckily for him, she wouldn’t just let him get the last word in here, and with a somewhat rushed lyric, the witch would appear in front of Cuphead. However, she seemed.. different, more smokey and purple and see-through.

And if the boy happened to turn around, he would notice the real deal catching up to him quickly.

“Wait there are cookies?”

Melody you’re dead you literally don’t eat-

    “HA! Well, she got ex-SPELLED!”

He laughs, obnoxiously loud, then looks back to the other to judge her reaction. She doesn’t seem half bad!

To say it had been a while since she had met someone so noisy was an understatement. She genuinely couldn’t remember the last time she knew someone with such a booming voice.

Initial shock aside, Melody couldn’t help but giggle. “My, you really are a character, dearie.”

   More loud laughing, and he gives her a little bow, tipping his tiny hat to her. “But of course! Every good clown is!”

    So, he’s got to hit her with another good joke. “What do you call a witch’s garage?

       A BROOM CLOSET.”

Another soft giggle. She would be wiping away a tear, but alas, bodily fluids aren’t a thing among the dead it seems.

“I like a good joke-off as much as the next person, but I don’t think I can compete with you.. clowning around.” The punchline wasn’t subtle, but they weren’t exactly aiming for subtle either.

      Ooh, what a spoopy looking character. Well, he’s out and about in clown gear, might as well give her a good laugh.

      “Hey-o! Say, you hear about the witch who was misbehaving at school?”

The witchy bard blinked at the sight of him, but instantly lit up as she realized what was happening. More horrible jokes!

“Hm.. Perhaps it’s because she couldn’t... spell?”

The zombie bard could only grin at this one. Perhaps stepping over the line into morbid humor wasn’t the best option with a literal child, but she simply couldn’t help herself.

“It never did.”

“I don’t get it-” The dark nature of it isn’t lost on him for long.

“Jeepers.” Cup does laugh, but it’s airy and verging on nervous. Fortunately, he doesn’t share his twin’s constitution - if Mugman were here that poor, hypothetical chicken would probably weigh on his mind, you monster - and instead becomes more preoccupied with returning fire.

“I don’t got anythin’ that grim, buuut…” he starts, idly scratching his nose as he talks. “I love my grandpappy, he’s so cool, he’s got the heart of a lion… and a lifetime ban from the zoo.”

Well, it would seem he didn’t just let her win after all. Though it did take her a moment to catch up with the fact that the joke-off wasn’t over just yet.

“Oh, golly! That’s terrible!” Her shocked and appalled facade fell away in an instant as she started to giggle.

“You know, if you make a man a fire, he’ll be warm for a night. But if you set that man on fire, he’ll be warm for the rest of his life.”

“Why did the chicken cross the road?”

She seems.. maybe a little too proud of this very familiar joke. Go on, Cups. You know you wanna ask.

Huh? That old chestnut? Really? Well, alright, not as if they’re telling good jokes. They’re stepping into Beppi brand awful at this point though. “…I dunno, why?”

WHY are you encouraging him? “Heh! Hey, hey, y’know why they have to put such tall fences around graveyards?”

“‘Cause people are always dyin’ to get in.”

Well, then it seems she was obliged to say something.

“I’m a witch, so knowing magic is a no-brainer there, and.. unfortunately I’m a bit too familiar with curses, though I’ll spare you the details since you seem a bit pressed for time.” Her own death had not come naturally, but he didn’t need to know that.

“Of course.. there’s no guarantee I could even undo the curse if I tried, and magic like that could be dangerous or even lethal if done even slightly wrong. But, still, I figure I’m allowed to ask, given the circumstances… how exactly did this happen?”

   Dice just looks at her blankly for a moment. It takes him a moment to register - Christ on a cracker, a witch might actually know something to do with this! There might actually be an excuse out.

                            “Uh.  Thanks f’the expertise, then. Well, y’see. The Devil cursed me. One of them, at least.”

                                   Is he willing to risk his life for some booze?

Yeah. Unfortunately.

Her brows raised at the mention of the Devil. Ah. Of course.

"Then I'm afraid that makes this situation a lot more risky for the both of us. Even if I wanted to so much as attempt to undo this now, I doubt any of my magic could counter his."

The bard thought for a second, twisting a piece of curly hair between her fingers.

"Well.. There is one thing I could try.. Though I have no idea if it would even work."
