everyoneās reminder that eva stratt is just as much the hero of project hail mary as ryland grace is. iāve been seeing too many people hating on her recently :(
"You can survive without an arm" and so could Ianthe, but you made her one anyway.
You, at the very least, care about Gideon. You may not love her, but you've shown care.
When you went off with two other necros (Palamades and whoever the fuck) because you thought one of them was the killer, you didn't take Gideon. You sent her and the two children to, what you believed at the time, was safety. You could have brought her along to aid in your fight against these necromancers. You didn't.
In the fight against Cytherea, you used extra energy to keep bones from touching Gideon. And yeah, that was practical, but you coulf have let smaller shards get through. It wouldn't have really shown her down to get a few cuts to the arms.
The first thing you asked the emporer for when you woke up was not for the resurrection of your house, or forgiveness for the sins that made you (not your fault btw). It wasn't power or even theorms only he knows.
It was to bring Gideon Nav back to you. And when he told you no, you tried to figure out how to do it yourself.
There are lessons taught by time and time alone, and you just haven't had the time to learn them all yet. That's okay.
But one of those is that pretending you don't care doesn't end well for you or the other party.
You don't have to love her, or kiss her. Just be honest with her, and yourself.
Anonymous,
I suppose I do care, now, but not in the way all of you might expect.
I have despised Gideon Nav for nearly all my life, but after what happened at Canaan Houseā¦Implicit trust is not to be forsaken. I know that now.
When Gideon and I find eachother, someday, I hope that she stays. I would like to keep watch over her. Not in the way I did as a child, with cruelty, but in appreciation for her sacrifice.
But you cannot tell her I said that.
Sincerely,
Harrowhark.
P. S. I am serious. If you tell Griddle I said any of this, I will twist your phalanges until they shatter.
finally drawing at least one pool scene
'Time's up,' [Palamedes] said. 'Give this to Cam for me, will you?' [...] [And when Nona] lifted up Camilla's hand to press her mouth to it, all Camilla said was, 'Thanks.' And she almost didn't flinch. ā NONA THE NINTH // Ch 5
"I don't let go. It's my one thing"
It's great how every character in the locked tomb is, from their pov, in a different genre of story.
Like Gideon is in a dark YA lesbian romance / horror story and Harrow is in The Count of Monte Cristo and Ianthe is in The Count of Monte Cristo and Pal is in The Count of Monte Cristo and Mercymorn is in The Count of Monte Cristo and Augustine is in The Count of Monte Cristo and John is in Homestuck and Nona is in The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The Emperor's Reason
i adore commander wake. this is not a meme i unironically adore and somewhat admire this woman. like she is up there with some of my all time favorite indigenous female characters. people often call her crazy or insane and she probably is to a degree but i can't help but love that about her.
she dedicated her entire life and death to killing god. she almost did it, too, is the thing. it's not that she tremendously failedā she was absolutely almost successful. she was ruthless. she's revered. BoE has shrines of her in their offices. she looked god in the face and demanded he say her full name, thus speaking their shared ancestral languageā a language he almost entirely wiped out. she wouldnāt let him get rid of it that easy. she charged him with genocide. there is no such thing as a house civilian to her, similarly how there's no such way to be a settler on stolen land and also a civilian.
i love indigenous women who are so rightfully angry. i love indigenous women who are radicals and fanatics and extremists. i love indigenous women who want to see empires burn. i love you awake remembrance of these valiant dead kia hua ko te pai snap back to reality oops there goes gravity.

thinking about how we are one flesh/i am your end applies more to lyctorhood than one flesh/one end ever could and one flesh/one end applies more to paul than we are one flesh/i am your end ever could
The thing I appreciate most about the locked tomb series is that its doing something that most current media has given up on: trusting the audience to pay attention. There is nothing simple about this book, but Muir is very intentional with the parts she explicitly explains. Enough is left for the readers to connect and conclude for themselves. I appreciated being slightly confused the entire time reading Nona. It felt good to actually need to think critically about what I was consuming.
poor John is so obsessed with control: he can freeze time, he can freeze the Houses in the suspended animation for myriad of years, he's resurrected and mindwiped his friends and made them his apostles so they would always stand by him while he remakes the world to his satisfaction. and none of this works! he can't control shit! Anastasia and the Ninth immediately betrayed him for Alecto, the Sixth made contingency plans on day one, Augustine and Mercy got in bed with him (literally) to get in bed with BoE (fiiguratively), and G1deon and Pyrrha took it even further (carnally), and Cytherea tried to eat his crop of baby lyctors. He's tried to make new apostles out of people more accustomed to seeing him as God, and none of them would've done it once they've figured the trick (except Ianthe, who would sell him to Satan for one corn chip in a hot second when it concerns Corona). his own dead daughter will betray him. the necromancers are in the intrigues and the Empire is in the neverending revolt. Alecto is the foundation of his powers and Alecto can not be controlled, too. death cannot control life. poor John.
