Elin felt almost instantly at ease around Eddie, which was something that was quite weird for her. Not being allowed to socialize with most anyone outside of her family until she was into her first few years as a teen was normal for most Asgardian royalty but made her severely lack any social skills. Although there wasn’t any real trace of that left nowadays (on the surface at least) it still took her quite a bit until she really felt comfortable around someone. Except with Eddie, it seems. “That does seem a bit more practical than actually punching another human when all you want to do is practice” She said with a small chuckle to herself, glad at least one new foreign thing seemed to be making any sense at all. “I do, actually! They are in the first level of the…” Elin paused, trying to remeber the right word “Basement?”
Eddie wasn’t always this friendly to people he’d just met. The scars and cuts that were now clotting on his face testimony to that. Something his father unknowingly passed down to him was his anger, without the hulk to rage out, he was always angry, always pushing down the urge to punch the walls around him. When he was younger, his father tried to bring him to therapy, not wanting his son to be like him but it didn’t work. The tall man offered Elin a small smile. “Yeah I know this will definitely help you build up your confidence to then work with humans.” He stated. “Right - we’ll meet there in the morning so we can have gym to ourselves and don’t have to worry about other students.”
“Yeah, but that just proves my point that his good movies are good because of other people – Angelina Jolie killed it in that move, no pun intended.” He grinned and shrugged. “Well, I guess if she wants to make bad choices with who she dates, we can’t really do much about it.”
“True but that whole movie relies on their chemistry as actors - if there wasn’t good chemistry or good acting between the both of them then the movie would of flopped.” He pointed out before chuckling for a second. “You do realize she’s married to him and they have kids, right?”
“Matt and Foggy seem alright.” She jokes, giving him a small smile. “Aside from the fight, how else have your last few weeks of freedom from school been? No kids to teach, so that’s a plus.”
“Yeah but they understand us rather than some power hungry lawyer trying to score a bit media case.” He pointed out before shrugging. “It’s been a bit boring to be honest - even though I don’t want to be a teacher for the rest of my life, it’s actually quite satisfying.”
“Most of your students don’t know the difference from a hook and an uppercut. I’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember. Besides, where’s the fun if it’s not a little rough?” She sighs and runs her fingers through her hair, “I really am sorry, Eddie.”
“You’re good and I know that but that doesn’t make it any better. Using a student and then the student getting hurt could make us liable for law problems and you know how much I hate lawyers.” He pointed out. “Eh-stop, no more apologies.”
She pushes his hand down, “Don’t point your finger at me, please.” She says, annoyance in her voice, “Sorry… It’s been a very long week.”
Eddie tensed up a bit when Rose pushed down his hand, he didn’t mean to be too aggressive. “Fine but you have to understand - you are the same age as my students and I cannot risk hurting you, even if you can heal.” He explained. “It’s alright - just don’t take out your anger on me, I have enough of my own.”
“Exactly, until they are on your level you can demonstrate with me. I’m light, I can actually block you and if you do break my bones, well I heal quick.” She sighs, she wanted to fight, without having to worry about getting in trouble for breaking school rules.
“Rose, I am not using you to demonstrate on.” He pointed a finger at the young girl - for some reason he felt a parental right not to fight her, to not put her in harms way.
Elin opened her mouth to protest but just nodded instead with a small smile, grateful that he didn’t seem too off put by her small outburst. Though she was still a bit embarrassed. It wasn’t every day you just blurted out randomly family issues not even your brother knew existed. “Do people usually punch sand so they started putting it in bags?” She asked curiously, genuinely wanting to know. Elin had definitely seen a punching bag before, after hearing what it looked like, but couldn’t help the curiosity bubbling inside her. “Tomorrow is perfect” She grinned “Is there anything specific I should bring?”
Elin caught Eddie on a good day even with the fight and the cuts, nothing seemed to really bother him too much at the moment. Maybe it was the adrenaline and endorphins still rushing through his veins that made him a nicer person to talk to. Either way, Eddie wanted to help the Asgardian girl - it was in her blood to be a warrior so it only seemed natural for him to help. “No-no! The sand is put in the bags so you can punch it. It’s supposed to resemble weight and feeling of a human.” He chuckled out. “Great - you know where the training rooms are right?”
“Well, I just think he’s not really that good of an actor and mostly gets by on his looks, so most of his movies suck ass – and if they don’t, it’s because of the other people in them.” Carter grinned and shrugged. “If that’s true, it’s probably not the only area he’s trying to over compensate in. Did you get a look at his car? I bet it’s a Hummer.”
“Okay okay but you can’t stand there and tell me that Mr and Mrs. Smith wasn’t a great movie.” Eddie pointed a finger at the man and smirked. “I was too busy not caring about him to check - I’m pretty sure he didn’t have a car cause his girlfriend practically carried him away.”
“Damn, I guess you did some equal damage then.” Bry raised an amused brow. “Everyone needs a vacation every now and then, but this probably isn’t the ideal way of going about getting one.”
“More than equal.” He smirked before shaking his head. “Barely a vacation - I’ll be back to work in two days and I’m totally fine by that.”
“I suppose I should be used to people walking around here with minor wounds and bruises. There are many classes in hand-to-hand combat, after all.”
“Hand to hand combat classes that I teach.” He stated before chuckling. “It’s alright - blood isn’t always appealing.”
“I am fine,” Wanda said, giving a little shrug. “I am eager for this heat to be over, that is for sure. Autumn is my favorite season for many reasons, not least of all for the lovely days.”
“I can understand that - the heat can make people a bit more angry.” He shrugged, NYC was known for it’s humid summers. “I can’t wait till it’s snowing - it’s so much more peaceful.”
People who think I don’t already “pick my battles” greatly underestimate the number of potential battles in my path on a daily basis.
“One would think” Elin said quickly, before she could stop and realize what she was actually saying “Sorry…” She said with a guilty look on her face, twirling a piece of hair around her finger. It wasn’t often she said things without thinking, she was probably one of the biggest advocates for think before you speak, especially if those thoughts were about her family. “Punching bags” The blonde repeated with a small smile forming on her face, she wasn’t incredibly sure what a punching bag was but she definitely liked the sound of it. “When can we start?”
“Don’t worry, really and don’t apologize.” He swatted a hand at the blonde, she’d already won him over in the beginning of their conversation so nothing she could say at the moment could really change his mind. “It’s like a big sack of sand that just for punching.” Eddie explained, realizing that she might not know what it was but she was definitely going to be familiar with one soon enough. “How about tomorrow - we’ll both be a little more fresh.” The tall man gestured to his face before chuckling.
Elin debated for a moment, if you take away her fear of breaking anything (human or otherwise) there wasn’t really anything holding her back. She was here to learn after all and he was here offering to teach her. “I will do it” She said with a small smile, deciding to agree now before she changed her mind. “But if I do hurt you, promise me that you will tell me?”
“Good - your father would definitely be proud.” He commented, happy that the girl decided to go along with his suggestion. The last thing Asgard needed was a woman who wanted to fight but was being held back by her mother & fear of her own strength. “Though how about we keep you with non-living things first, like punching bags before you graduate to humans.”
“I guess I should also apologize now if I do accidentally hurt you or anyone you teach. I still am not completely used to Midgardians and how fragile they are…” Elin was genuinely embarrassed to think of how many doors she had accidentally broken in her short time here.
“Don’t worry about it - I’ve had students accidentally break things before and you have even more of an excuse to not be blamed if you do end up breaking something.” Eddie wasn’t too worried about her breaking things, it’s not like he’d get billed if it did happen.
“I read Fight Club too many times, actually, but I get your point. I pretty much refuse to watch a movie with Brad Pitt in it, except Thelma and Louise.” He snorted. “Wow, he sounds like an interesting guy.”
“Alright show off - I don’t see what’s so bad about Brad Pitt but to everyone is allowed their own opinion even if it sucks.” He shrugged before nodding. “More like insecure & trying to over compensate.”
