origins. \\
Drip, drip, drip. The incessant staccato of seawater met his ears as it reverberated off of the natural labyrinthâs walls, the meek occurrence resonating like a tidal wave within the deathly quiet cavern. Chills danced along the young manâs arms, inspiring goosebumps that came and went with the long minutes, as the scent of sea salt and clay filled his nostrils. He was rather unnerved to be so utterly alone while the rest of the crater town slept, feeling as though no one would notice if the cave decided to fall in on itself and swallow him whole.
Sitting perched with crossed legs before of the twisted, towering walls of glistening, dewy stone and stalactite, he fastened his azure gaze upon the aged tome in his hands. His brow furrowed with the grueling effort it took to discern the faded calligraphic text and illustrations, the only dimly flickering illumination born from an array of wax candles propped on clay plates in coiled patterns around him, throwing replicas of his distorted shadow upon the walls. Perhaps the most exceptional aspect of the ritualistic atmosphere was the woven shroud he sat upon, fabricated long ago with silken threads of ruby and sapphire, the hues intermingling beneath a distinctive gilded design rumored to have been inspired from the backs of the ancient Pokemon themselves.
He shifted upon it, appearing perturbed as a small sigh escaped his lips, his features painted with a profound look of worry as he shifted his attention away from the book of lore to the mural before him. It was a frightful and awe-inspiring creation, appearing to have been carved centuries ago from the very pitch hued soot the city was named for. Spanning several feet, the upper portion of the illustration emanated sentiments of harmony: Kyogre, the fearsome titan of the depths, appeared pacific as it peeked its head from the calm waters of the neighboring sea, the indigenous people of Sootopolis showering the creature with tropical flowers and other fruits of their proud civilization as blessed rainfall poured forth from the heavens. Adjacent to this image was Groudon, the hailed creator of the earth, who stood before the summit of what was presumed to be Mt. Chimney, while the people who once inhabited modern Lavaridge and Fallabar raised their hands in exalted praise for its ability to bring constant sunlight to the world.
As his eyes traced the cavern artwork, taking time to admire every brushstroke of whatever ancient artist gave life to its beauty, he still could not wrap his mind around the idea that two fearsome Pokemon created the lands and seas that humans could not survive without. He had read the stories and accounts that Juan had tasked him with nearly a hundred times, and yet he still trembled with intense, mingled fear and fury at the idea that their power could be manipulated for the sake of selfish human intent. Attempting to keep a clear mind, his eyes trailed quickly past the illustration below those of harmony, past the illustrations that conveyed the ultimate destruction and death that eradicated Sootopolisâs ancient ancestors and the remainder of Hoenn. Instead, Wallace fastened his eyes upon the two artifacts positioned before him, each nestled within velvet cloth and gilded boxes inscribed with the peculiar markings of the ancient Pokemon. Â They were the focus of his final vigil, two perfect, iridescent spheres that only Juan himself had access to, and he had brought them all the way back to their place of origin for the purpose of a final lesson.
The trainer frowned at them, disturbed by their beauty as the orbs of deep crimson and bright cerulean glimmered, refracting the candlelight.
âHow could something so destructive be so beautiful?â He mused, the calm bass echoing throughout the cavern as he observed the two objects. With a wistful smile, he supposed it made sense. Demagogues such as those that once attempted to harness the might of the two Pokemon had always used smooth-talking words and beauty to gain the approval of the masses that it was no wonder his people had once been coaxed and tantalized by the two artifacts sitting prettily before him. And yet, the young manâs mind remained distracted; he was too confident that he understood that grave nature of what was before him; that he comprehended his peoplesâ ancient strife, their pain. He was always scolded by Juan for his tendency towards distraction and haughtiness, whether it had been in the pursuit of art or battle. No matter how well he performed or what trainers he defeated, he was always told: you are not ready. And yet the aging man seemed so suddenly confident in his ability to change that he had expedited his final task, a vigil of reflection. Why? Brushing a strand of seafoam hued hair from his face, Wallace glanced up and around the cave in one final attempt to gain some profound sense of spirituality from the experience, and yet he felt nothing, the back of his neck growing hot with frustration. All that met his ears was the sound of echoed, dripping water, and all that met his eyes was murky darkness.
âWhat do you want from me?â
It was not long before the influence of a grueling week of training, the late hour, and the dark surroundings dragged the young man into an unfit yet deep sleep, the slumber beginning with the occasional, repetitive rise and fall of his head. What was he thinking? He couldnât rest during a vigil! To do such warranted automatic failure, the failure of everything he had worked months for. And yet, particularly lacking in inspiration, he unwittingly dozed off, the loneliness of his surroundings vanishing from his mindâs eye and fading to black.
It was not the blackness of sleep that met his eyes. His entire lithe form was assaulted by a million icy needles, rendering his limbs numb and useless as he gasped, inhaling a wheezing breath of salty brine that set even his trained lungs on fire. These were not untroubled waters; no, this is what he imagined a whirlpool must feel like at the very core of its raging vortex, barbaric and mindless of everything in its wake. Taking no time to mull over the unfathomable circumstances that led him into near blindness, he did the only thing he knew how to do, his arms reaching far over his head as his legs kicked furiously, his eyes staring blindly into a void as he reached for a surface he was beginning to fear did not exist.
It was all too real to be a nightmare. His muscles slackened with each push of effort, his lips tightly sealed as they held tightly to the last inkling of oxygen he had left in his system. No matter how strong or persistent he was, he was tossed about as inconsequentially as a leaf in the wind, the direction of his course interrupted by the chaos so many times he began to lose semblance of rational thought. In the process he failed to notice that he was drifting, by some luck, to the surface, as any object would if it was stirred long enough in a figurative pot.
Eyes beginning to flutter shut in exhaustion, they reopened wide as the blackness turned into a lighter, grayish sapphire hue, designating that he had reached the surface. Emerging from the depths with a long, hoarse gasp for oxygen, he expected to be greeted by the unyielding Hoenn sun. But it seemed chased from the sky entirely, a look of confounded horror overshadowing his fatigue as his body froze with fearful recognition. Colossal torrents of rain pelted from the skies, creating just enough visibility that he could discern waterspouts in the distance, so utterly gigantic and unlike anything he had ever seen, whether they be from Pokemon or nature itself. An ungodly roar of wind and thunder filled the air, the earth feeling as though it would crumble beneath the pressure of the seas as the tectonic plates trembled in correspondence to the surges of electricity that crashed into the depths. Â
This apocalyptic scene he was bearing witness to; that was not the worst part. No, it was the screams. The screaming of the wind and rain mingled with the screaming of the people upon the gargantuan white rock that he kicked furiously to stay afloat beneath. He stared incredulously up at the damned souls situated around its crater, unable to distinguish their ancient tongue amidst the deafening noise of the disaster. But his heart palpitated and fell simultaneously as he recognized their body language, the way the women held their children to their chest, the way the men threw their arms up in anger and pleading as one man held a solitary orb to the beast that rapidly approached, its enraged roar more potent than the combined forces of nature.
He felt their horror of the families, the dread of the impending doom that would wait only seconds for them to grab each other by the face and bawl their hurried goodbyes. He felt the ancient peoplesâ fury towards their crazed demagogue and their heavy, ruefully accepted shame as they realized that they had placed their trust in a man whose vision seemed superior to their quaint ways. He felt their grief for their loyal companions, unable to be harnessed by modern devices but loyal all the same, Pokemon that had perished not long after Kyogre had emerged from its aquatic slumber. And perhaps most peculiar of all, he felt hope, a hope cried out in the hearts of a few that their mistakes would not be recreated, and that their proud people would persevere.
The combined weight of these emotions crashed into him all once, drowning the young man as swiftly as the steely, thousand ton wave that swallowed his form as the ancient Pokemon approached to eliminate its captor and his followers once and for all. His lungs rapidly filled with the salty brine, the lack of oxygen causing his vision to fade to blackness as he awoke with a convulsing jolt.
Blinking rapidly, he twisted his head several times, peering around at the same, seemingly ordinary cave from before, uncertain of which reality was true. Trembling with trepidation, he rose to his feet, the motion staggering and ungraceful as he longed to separate himself from whatever horrors he had just experienced. He dashed through the darkness towards the exit and towards the idealistic present, tripping over a stray stone in the process, his flurried mind particularly useless as it attempted to process what he had just experienced.
Emerging into the cool night, his knees buckled, the trainer stopping to take gasping breaths inspired by both horror and the physical effort of his sprinted escape.  Standing, he brushed the dirt and clay from his clothing in a futile effort, slowly taking in the sights of the slumbering city whose beauty and peace he had taken for granted for far too long. His expression twisted with undisguised pain at the reality that the land and all of its people could be eradicated if a soul with cruel intent ever again stepped foot into the cave where the ancient Pokemon slumbered.
Truly humbled and reinvigorated with newfound determination to ensure no soul would ever experience the pain he had in his vision, he turned to head towards the Sootopolis Gym, but not before his eyes met the sight of his mentor, the man he sought, illuminated by pale moonlight.
âI-I understand. I understand everything, what I must do,â he breathed, the words seeming to fall to the ground like an admittance of defeat as the young man bowed respectfully, waiting to be scolded by the man for running out on the vigil in the middle of the night.
Instead, a knowing, warm chuckle filled the still air, Wallace watching as a flowing, ivory garment fell around his form, curving around his body to his feet as the gym leader passed the rite onto his apprentice, fastening the cloak around his neck in one final transfer of responsibility.
âI thought you might.â
fantasy au!!!
- similar to the tale of King Arthur, Wallace would be a character similar to the Lady of the Lake- ability to live and breathe underwater, granting powers/sword/what have you to the protagonist of the story after the protagonist shows evidence of mastering whatever art Wallace desires to see - also similar to Neptune with the ability to command aquatic life in order to defend whatever sacred artifact he is defending
đ pet peeves !!
- People depositing any amount of litter, especially in bodies of water. This could be something as small as just emptying soda into a pond.- People acting unprofessional in situations that demand professionalism. - People who seem to be in a perpetual hurry and that have no time to stop and appreciate the small things. - When someone rejects hospitality; i.e. Offering to pay a bill and the person insists itâs unnecessary.
Send "đ" + any headcannons you want to know about my muse.
hogwarts!au ?
- the kindest Slytherin youâll ever meet, but not without that classic hint of arrogance.- gets in trouble for adding embellishments to his robe- obtains a position in the middle of his Hogwarts career wherein heâs tasked with guarding the schoolâs most precious artifacts- study of ancient runes is his favorite subject, followed by muggle art
- finds a career following graduation in field work regarding the advocacy of aquatic magical beasts
be my knight in shining armor!AU
- Wallace would be terrible at riding any sort of land Pokemon so ideally there would be some body of water - which means you better expect some glorious surfing in on Miloticâs back complete w/ sparkles and huge trailing waves. Also cape flourishes - would totally milk the entire knight in shining armor role. Like you better expect some shoujo style poetic declarations of love and roses that literally come out of thin air.- on the flip side, he would battle fiercely to defend his or his ladyâs honor
Villain!Au
- Heâs more concerned with dramatic speeches and costume changes than anything- Also tending to the giant aquarium in his villain lair - What is this manâs objective again ????
Give me an AU and I'll tell you what my muse would be in it.
Example:
western!au = my muse is a cowboy
royalty!au = my muse is a princess
etc.
Unexpected Company // Wallace && Cynthia
If there was ever a photograph to represent the Hoenn region in its prime beauty, then surely that day would have been the ideal day to capture it. The breeze was abundant yet gentle in nature, coaxing ivory wisps of clouds along the cerulean sky, which was generously illuminated by a beaming white sphere of a sun. Wingull and other birds native to the region seemed to bask in the conditions, the occasional flap of their wings allowing them to hover over the sapphire waters of the tropical land that seemed to stretch as endless as the eye could see, reflecting the sunâs rays in a manner akin to a precious gem. Whether native or tourist, the fair conditions had seemingly every soul in lifted spirits, drawing out a particular life in the typically quiet, peculiar city of Sootopolis.
The city, which was in all essence a small mountain from which a meteor made its target long ago, was truly an ancient wonder, as was the way by which its inhabitants adapted to its unique features. Cascading layers of white rock hosted a plethora of small homes, which were carved from the same natural material as if to not disturb the wondrous landscape that had existed before the name âHoennâ was ever uttered by man. Similarly, winding staircases of stone lead from one cliff face to the next, and then below to a central verdant expanse that served as the shore to a dazzling lake. It was a historically rich utopia of sorts, saturated with the scents of sea salt and stone and lacking any noise characteristic of modern cities. With its pacific atmosphere and cooperative conditions, it never failed to be his ideal venue for training.
âLet us rehearse your finale once more! Show me Twister, Anastasia!â A calm yet confident bass pierced the quiet that had fallen over the ocean lake, the young manâs command followed suit by the shrill, musical call of an elegant sea creature, the tune muted in volume as its shadow raced below the lake. Bursting from the depths, the creature revealed itself and its song, the cry enthusiastic as it reverberated off the walls of the mountainous city. The Milotic was recognizably well groomed, its serpentine form glistening not only from the sun, but from closely monitored nutrition. In the wake of its emergence, the Pokemon hovered above the lake, extending its lithe form as it spiraled rapidly towards the azure skies. The motion generated a formidable, blustery whirlwind, the sheer power of the technique obscuring the water typeâs form entirely. Its trainer planted one foot firmly in front of the other, his heel digging into the rippling blades of grass as he raised an arm to shield his face, the other hand tasked with making sure the hat upon his head didnât go flying off. Though his brow furrowed in the effort it took to stand before the Pokemon, his expression was reverent and proud, a smile lingering upon his angular features as he regarded the fruits of their practice.
âMarvelous! Continue with Water Pulse!â The gym leader was full of invigorating confidence now, the vision of their combined grandeur clear in his mind before the Milotic even parted its jaws to release the torrent of pulsating water. He could hear it now: the ever-intoxicating roar of an enraptured crowd as the Pokemon transformed the cyclone into an awesome vortex of aquatic beauty. Their innovation would stun, leaving the audience at the edge of their seats just before a ray of jagged ice would freeze the water in place, creating a sculpture of freezing, twisted crystal. And finally, the Pokemon would break the structure with a mighty swing of its powerful tail, showcasing its strength as shards of its work cascaded down throughout the arena.
Caught up in his own fantasy, the blue-haired coordinator was pulled from his reverie altogether by the shock of cold water as it spattered upon his face with an icy sting. Blinking incredulously, he turned to find the Milotic wading in the waters, its fanned, iridescent tail smacking the surface as if it were throwing some sort of fit.
âWhat could possibly be the matter with you?â The young man murmured, bringing up a hand to futilely wipe some of the droplets from his face as he gazed around at their imminent surroundings. As was to be with any contest Pokemon, the water type was especially accustomed to being the center of attention, the slightest competition sending the elegant creature into a childlike tantrum. Years of being alongside the Milotic meant that Wallace had its habits memorized to a tee, and yet it had been some time since the Pokemon had displayed any semblance of jealously.
Before he could search any further for the source of the creatureâs provocation, the Milotic released a shrill cry, rearing its head back before it released a subtle aquatic torrent. The move possessed little power, meaning to act more as a method of annoyance as it traveled through the air, the subject upon which it landed causing the gym leaderâs eyes to widen in both shock and reverence as a gasp escaped his lips.
It was an unfathomably rare sight, and yet it seemed that the beauty had chosen to grace his side of the lake by some grand fortune: another Milotic, much like his own, and yet judging with his seasoned eyes it appeared to be more accustomed to the pursuit of battle.
âHow oddâŠâ He mused, admiring the creatureâs unique beauty momentarily before his eyes traced their way back to the turf before it. In that moment, he was convinced that his heart could not endure any further astonishment as an unmistakably elegant figure of a woman stood before the Pokemon, seeming to be enjoying the day just as anyone else would. Her choice of attire was unremarkable in his mindâs eye; no, rather it was the abundance of flaxen hair that seemed to float behind a majority of her form that rendered her so undeniably discernible. Champion Cynthia, from the Hoenn region! They had never met outside of Pokemon League formalities, but he had seen the exhibition battles she had performed and had held a great respect for her ever since.
Flashing a scolding glare akin to one a parent would give a misbehaving child at the Milotic, Wallace walked with a gait that did not betray his inner embarrassment, eager to make her acquaintance. Approaching her with an air of calm sophistication, he bowed ostentatiously, drawing an arm across his torso in the process.
âItâs not every day Sootopolis is graced with the presence of a champion!â He announced, straightening as he met her gaze, an amiable smile upon his face as his eyes shone with elation. âIâm not sure if you remember me from those League conferences long ago, but Iâm Wallace. Itâs truly an honor to make your acquaintance, Cynthia.â
âPlease forgive Anastasia, here. She is so used to being the quintessence of beauty that she often becomes defensive when there is such threatening competition,â he chuckled, glancing back towards the lake as the two Milotic seemed to eye each other warily, his own approaching the championâs with tentative caution. Â Focusing his attention back on the cityâs visitor, he continued, appearing genuinely curious. âWhat might you be doing in Hoenn this time of year? I would assume a Sinnohian such as yourself would go to great lengths to avoid this heat!â
ooc;
So, I'm currently at one thread which is a little sad, so like this post/IM me if you'd like to thread! I'm up for anything.
walk walk, fashion baby // wallace && serena
Though the sapphire seas of Hoenn would always possess the top place in his heart, there was something so undeniably irresistible about the quaint, romantic region of Kalos. Lumiose City was of course its prime centerpiece, decorated with café-lined cobblestone streets and the sparkling Prism Tower, a worldwide icon in itself. Strolling casually along the sidewalk, a content smile befitted the lips of the young man, whose azure hued gaze admired the intricacies of the city behind tinted, circular shades. Typically a rather ostentatious figure, the gym leader had abandoned his typical attire, which was more suited towards the tropical climate of his home, in exchange for something a bit more practical for the approaching Kalosian winter. Donning a pure white turtle-necked sweater, seafoam hued scarf, lavender slacks, and white shoes, his ensemble was a blatant rebellion against typically somber winter hues, and yet he continued to saunter down the streets with a head held high, convinced that no one would ever dare question his fashion decisions.
The trip to Kalos was both opportune and planned in nature, an appointed board of prolific coordinators choosing the dazzling city as an obvious venue for a conference on how to ameliorate contests, both mechanically and aesthetically. Though the majority of his time was spent assessing young trainersâ skills in battle, Wallace was invited nonetheless, as a large portion of his free time was spent pursuing a side career as a successful coordinator. However, the meetings for such had recently come to a close, allowing for a tantalizing abundance of free time. Continuing his meander down Lumioseâs streets, he briefly considered stopping at one of the plethora of cafes that lined the streets for a coffee and a quick call to his mentor, Juan, to see if the gym had received any unanticipated challengers. That was until his wandering eyes alighted upon a dazzling shop that could be considered nothing less than the paragon of modern fashion: an expansive and exclusive clothing store known only as Boutique Couture, a name that rolled elegantly off of the tongue and filled the dreams of any young person with even the slightest interest in fashion.
With childlike excitement in his heart, Wallace altered his daydream-guided steps to fit the path leading to the Camelot of trends, pausing briefly at a crosswalk as a taxi rumbled idly past. Once the gym leader had crossed and had arrived on the other side, he was nearly bubbling with anticipation, having not visited the renowned store in quite some time due to a demanding schedule. The smile that alighted his angular features faltered somewhat, however, as the glass door leading into the place appeared propped open, and in its space a woman with a haughty, insistent expression on her face as she spoke sternly to who appeared to be a young girl, perhaps a trainer by the bag she carried.
Approaching slowly then, he fixed his attention the older womanâs words, who was undoubtedly a store employee judging by her impeccable dress and neatly groomed hair.
âIâm sorry, but Iâll explain this one last time: youâre simply not stylish enough. We have a long standing reputation to uphold here at Boutique Couture, and we cannot have just any run of the mill trainer wandering our store!â
The womanâs haughty words instantaneously tore a hole in the young manâs heart, his eyes widening behind his glasses as his mouth fell agape in disbelief. Not stylish enough? Why, every young fashion enthusiast must start somewhere!
Marching forward, Wallace stood before the two, clearing his throat as though he could not bear to hear the woman continue any further with her verbal assault.
âI must say, I am appalled by your treatment of this young trainer!â He exclaimed, his hands gravitating indignantly towards his hips, holding no apparent reservations towards interrupting the exchange.
âIf it were not for the interest of new fashion enthusiasts, the art of fashion would surely die! At the very least, I know my willingness to visit your store would fall considerably if you turned away this trainer.â Removing the sunglasses that masked his features, his voice calmed considerably to its normal, urbane bass. âNow, do you truly want to risk losing both of our business?â
The attendantâs features, which had been distorted in a look of confusion during the majority of his tirade, transformed into an expression of blanched shock as she seemed to gather that she was speaking to one of the storeâs most reputable customers.
âM-Mister Wallace! I must apologize! I had no idea this girlâs entrance meant such a great deal to you.â Bowing at the waist, she quickly added, âOf course she may enter. I hope you will forgive this incident!â
As the attendant hurried back into the store in a flurry of fluster, Wallace turned back to the trainer, a look of pleasant amusement and a brief chuckle having erased any semblance of his previous indignation. In that moment, he had a sudden desire to be a champion of fashion for the disenfranchised girl, oddly seeing a younger version of himself in her curiosity.
âMademoiselle, I do hope you will forgive my outburst. I just canât bear to see people turned away from exploring their passions! Iâm Wallace.â Drawing an arm across his middle and bowing briefly as if in apology, he met her gaze.
âIf you need any help exploring the world of fashion, I am more than happy to serve as your guide! After all, I was just about to enter the store myself.âÂ
