Regarding Mina's Maul Betty Girl

"So, Mina", Wyll breaks the silence as his figure flickers behind the campfire.

"Yes?" she replies as she continues her attempt to flip the stone inside the campfire.

"What's the story of the maul?"

Mina flips the stone on its belly up. The stone had it coming. "Oh Betty Girl? Yeah she's my pal", she pats the handle under her as she sits on the flat side of her weapon, "I like a maul more than an axe because you can't break a wall with an axe without making it useless, you know?"

"That's very practical of you", Wyll agrees.

"You have your sting" Mina gestures to the rapier on Wyll's hilt, "I have my hammer. It's just a tool, right?"

"The hammer and the blade, it's fitting."

"I know right? Betty Girl has been with me a long time. Sentimental. I think I was somewhere in the Neverwinter Wood and I just got lost, you know? For about a month. Started talking to myself because I don't speak bird. Then I figured might as well find a target to talk to and it ended up being Betty Girl? Isn't that right, pal?" Mina looks down at her weapon. It doesn't respond because it does not have a mouth. "Yeah she knows."

5. Is there any significance behind their hair color?

Breoch's hair colour is the complete opposite of what a typical drow's hair should be because of his dragon great-grandfather. It's an outward sign that his family do not strictly follow Menzoberranzan doctrine.

Mina's hair is a dirty blonde. She's always been a blonde, but the specific shade is supposed to be more muted and not typically considered an 'attractive' shade. It's much more mundane.

Shrike's hair colour is reminscent of blood and fire, both of which have dual-symbolism of life and death.

Zeke's purple hair is a carry over from his previous iteration. The in-universe significance is that it's the colour his father chose for him.

14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?

Breoch:

He will always act however you expect him to. Everything he does is poised, calculated and conducted to endear himself to others.

Despite his insight into others' behaviours, he has no self-awareness. He never introspects or reflects on his own actions. His gaze is always focussed outwards.

Shrike:

They are frugal with their words. Why use 50 words when 5 and a sharp blade gets the message across?

They express themself through their tail. Their tail will reveal their true feelings even when their face and words give nothing away.

19. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?

I've already answered for Mina here, so I'll answer this for the other three.

Breoch: Despite being over 200 years old, he's only woken up to an empty house once or possibly twice in his entire life. He's always made an effort to be around people; never allowing himself to be truly alone with his thoughts. The first time he woke up alone in a house was after his fiancé was murdered. He then moved back in with his family in the few months before he too was killed. Waking up alone again would send him right back to that morning of grief, the feeling of loss as sharp as it was then, and cause him to spiral uncontrollably.

Shrike: They will eat anything you put in front of them. It's almost as if they don't have a sense of taste and would just as readily eat meat on the verge of rotting as a platter of exquisite cuisine. Although as a bhaalspawn, they do prefer meat over vegetables.

Zeke: He has a supernatural sense of smell. As a partial devil and a bhaalspawn, his sense of smell is much more sensitive than most. The scents of the material plane are unfamiliar to him, so he notices them more. He once made Wyll blush by telling him that he "smelt like sunshine".

BG3 Tav Underwear

After seeing @weirdest-wyrd's recent post about Tajana's underwear and flavour text, it got me thinking about Breoch's. Very much jumping onto this open tag as an excuse to ramble about Breoch's clothing >:3c

Technically Breoch doesn't wear anything under his leotard (have you see how high-legged that thing is?), so this is technically also his undergarment. The collar is metal and decorated with Lolth's insignia. It acts as two kinds of protection: symbolically it marks him out as a follower of Lolth which makes him appear as less of a target, and it physically protects his neck from a hidden blade (or fangs). The 'boob window' is made of silk and silver thread which offers a bit of protection from an attack aimed at his chest, whilst also giving the illusion of openness and vulnerability. The low back also leaves plenty of room for his draconic wings, once he levels up enough to be able to summon them again.

It's not the most comfortable of outfits— Lolth's star is sharp against his chin— but it makes him feel safe and sexy.

Adding to the rambles, 2 more fun details with Breoch's undergarments:

The 'boob window' shape is loosely based off a spider's cephalothorax and abdomen because drow

Lolth's star collar is also reminiscent of a heretic's fork. Not only does it provide the protection mentioned above, it also shows that he is a 'heretic' in Lolth's eyes. To her faithful it would appear to be an admission of his House's folly and an acceptance of her punishment. But to Breoch, wearing it so close to his House's emblem, it's a symbol that not even Lolth can break him.

Well this is a very sad question lol

So she life in the underdark almost her entire life, and have romantic relationship with drows who are also have a very long life-span. The races that have shorter life-span in her life often did not survive that long also. So she actually doesn't think about it that much cause of the previous reasons. Now that she made friends in the surface with a shorter life-span, she does start thinking about it.

Sadly, people often left, abandoned, and betray her. Having an unexpected goodbyes is an occurrence thing in her life. I think she will be okay on letting people go ^^

8. Does your character have a best friend in the party? Who is it, and why do they get along?

Oof this actually breaks my heart lmao

Her best friend is actually Shadowheart! (Lae'zel being one in the late game, later in act 3). In the game they both are canonically have a crush on Zhev😭

Zhevani is not a pushy person when it comes to her acquaintances. When she first met Shadowheart, she did not push anything on to her, and just let her open her shell by herself, unexpectedly building her trust in the process. Because of the previous reasons, Shart ended up having a huge crush on Zhev😭😭 She often gave her looks and flirts with her lmao. Zhev is dense as a rock tho. (Rejecting Shart is very hard for me, mentally :""")

For Lae'zel, they start off as enemies. Lae'zel is an extremely stubborn person, and it pisses her off. they often have arguments about how often Lae'zel make her own decision without the party's agreement, putting everybody into risks. She does slowly trust her leadership. I thought they would hit it off as friends in act 2, but Lae'zel starts to hit her on her HARD and i know damn well Zhev is uncomfortable as fuck, and starts to keep her distance lol. They did became friends again in the beginning of act 3.

They are sparring partener, often test eachother's ability in a fight at camp whenever they have some spare time!

I don't often ramble about Mina, so these were very fun to answer! 💙

5. Where is your character from? How do they feel about that place now?

Mina grew up in Daggerford, a small town just outside of Waterdeep. Her parents were textile weavers, so her earliest memories of that place are sitting at her family's loom and spending hours upon hours weaving intricate fabrics. Most of her early life was spent working the loom, spinning thread, or sewing garments, so she has no strong attachments to Daggerford itself other than it being the place where several generations of her family lived and died. The family business will be inherited by her younger sister (due to her sister marrying a wealthy merchant, which is something Mina had no interest in). It always felt like a chain she needed to break free from. The only positive of the place is how close it is to the sea, which is Mina's greatest love.

When she turned 18, she moved to Waterdeep for an apprenticeship. There she learned how to harness the Weave and weave it into fabrics and enchanted embroidery. Despite being horrendously shy, she loves the hustle and bustle of the City of Splendors. She loves feeling like she's a part of the fabric of city life, even though she thinks of herself as an ultimately insignificant part of it. When she isn't busy working, either as an informant or seamstress, then she's at the harbour watching the waves roll in until the sun sets below the horizon.

8. Does your character have a best friend in the party? Who is it, and why do they get along?

Mina is personable, but not overly friendly. She gets along with mostly everyone in the group, except Astarion: he knows she's lying about something, but he can't quite prove it yet. She's reluctant to call anybody there her 'friend', even if many of the companions think of her as theirs. As she spends most of her time at camp, she often sits with Halsin as she mends clothes or embroiders enchantments. He'll talk her through his plans to stop the shadowcurse and she'll patiently listen, only occasionally offering a quiet reassurance or suggestion. But even then, she wouldn't call Halsin a 'friend'.

The person she would be closest to— surprisingly— is Lae'zel. When Mina is hiding her true identity, Lae'zel is the first to discover the brand of the Absolute that Mina's been concealing. She is the first person Mina confides in about her spy work and how she's already infiltrated Moonrise Towers. They have both led such wildly different lives and have such opposing views on how to approach their situation, that in fact they are the best person for the other to consult when deciding a path forward. They learn to rely on the other's insight and trust each other's instinct. It completely baffles the other companions, but the two of them slowly become inseparable.

Selkie Mermay

So Hua ended up winning the pole and it was a bit hard figuring out what marine animal to pair her with. She’s not really a half fish person even though for a while I did debate having the tail be a koi fish. Normally her tail would have looked something like Shadowheart’s. However I finally just went with my favorite which was a Selkie and then looked up different seals. Thus spotted seal was chosen. There are also nods to the Jiao ren, which are mermaids that cry pearls, which is why Shadowheart is wearing so many, they are gifts from Hua. however it is a bit hard to see all of Hua’s little sea accessories. Might change that one day. Plus it’s not a character of mine with out the fluffy animal companion so seal joined them for a singing session.
