This. It's okay to be conflicted over the ending and how short the last chapter was, but Ichikawa announced we'd be getting at least one more chapter after a break.

Ichikawa is an amazing writer, and Houseki No Kuni has been one of the best series I've ever read, if not the best.

Just because your dream ending didn't happen doesn't mean it was going to end that way, Phos was aware of their job and the things that have happened. It concluded that way because Ichikawa wanted it to, Houseki No Kuni has been in writing since 2012, and this was probably an ending that's been written out in plans for the last ten years
