At the risk of soliciting spoilers, can you talk a little about the In the Blue characters & their sexualities? It was such an interesting thread through Luke's chapter even though The Demon Eating His Soul took the spotlight!
i tried to politician-speak talk about it with no spoilers and i did okay but some of it veers into teaser/hint territory so please avoid below the cut if you would like to go in entirely blind
- luke is gay as hell and has known it pretty much always, and it might have been a bigger deal emotionally (small town, very toxic locker room environment) except for, as you said, he had more pressing problems including but not limited to the Literal Demon Eating His Soul. as of the start of pt2, it is the first time literally ever in his life that he has freedom from both his father and the demonic entity eroding his emotions, so i think a key part of what we can anticipate for him is dealing with the vast newfound possibilities that that freedom presents, which i would imagine might feasibly encompass Gay Shit TM.
- for cooper as of right now i think the following is true: 1) he genuinely likes girls, 2) our boy grew up in Sudbury, Ontario, immersed in Northern Ontario Hockey Culture from a very young age, with one parent being Christian Dad Who Goes Hunting, 3) he has an absolute truckload of baggage about being good and acting correctly to earn liking and approval (which uh. has not been helped by recent events in a lake in luke’s hometown), and 4) he is affectionate and intensely caring in his platonic relationships. i think because of all of those factors, he has had no real impetus or incentive to ponder his own sexuality at any length. how’s that for a non-answer.
doing my 5000th read of in the blue and it keeps sticking out to me that cooper lives in a studio in toronto! is there a directors cut for this detail because its very sweet and very cooper but i cant explain why
extremely funny that you pointed this out because i knew immediately that it was a studio apartment and i was mad about it!! like i fully tried to rewrite to make it a bigger/nicer place because he could obviously afford one, but it just felt so right that he was in a little studio right in the downtown core with all his stuff on the walls and visible at all times.
Okay, Cliffs notes. The team’s haunted, curses are real, I had it mostly under control but then the trade went through out of nowhere and now it’s not, and, again, I literally can’t emphasize this enough, I need someone to ritually sacrifice a hamster at centre ice or people are going to die.
Walking great distances has never been extreme behavior to me. It has forever helped me regain my equilibrium, and I would always rather do the existentially important things in my life on foot. If you want to propose marriage to your girlfriend and you live in England and she is in Sicily, do the decent thing and walk down there. Traveling by car or aeroplane wouldn't be right at such a moment.
