how I create my spells

hey everyone! How I create my spells has been a hot topic on this blog recently. Spending time to create my own spells is one of the things that I love most about witchcraft - and I highly recommend giving it a go. So this post is a combination of the process that I use when writing my own spells, and also some random tips which may be useful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me! 

The process:

For me a spell has four main parts: an intent, something which charges the spell and supplies the energy, ingredients/items which transmute the energy to your intent, and a way that your spell is brought together or contained. From this, spells can be made in a limitless amount of ways. 

The first thing to do when creating your spell is to determine what the intent is. Write down the intent for your spell and make sure it’s clear and concise. 

Once you have your intent, determine what type of spell that you want to create. Examples of these include spell jars, spell sachets, potions, charmed objects or jewellery…

After this, think about ingredients that you own that fit with your intent - these make up the basis of your spell and help to transmute the energy to your intent. Examples of these ingredients are iron nails for protection, bay laurel for wish granting.

The next thing is to work out what way your spell will be charged. Examples of this include crystals, stones, salt, using a wand or athame, asking a deity for help.  

Once you have decided these things, you can gather your ingredients and prepare to perform your spell. 

Other tips:

Remember to cleanse yourself, your space and your items before you perform your spells. This can be as simple as you like - i.e using a sigil.

You can also use sigils to make your intent clear, or replace the wording of your intent.

You can also ask your deities or spirits to help you with spells, if you work with any. Depending on the theme of your spell, some deities may be more suited than others.

Decide if you want to perform your spell on a specific day of the week, Sabbat or moon phase. Certain times of the year lend themselves to specific intents.

Do research on tumblr, online and from books. See how other people spells are structured and draw inspiration from this.

So, I have a friend who has had a really hard time with love… It’s relationship after relationship and nothing ever comes of it. Often he’ll find himself in a situation where either the person was a total dirtbag or he felt he had nothing to offer them.

You know this spell is for you if you find yourself craving love from others, but have a hard time with self love. 

What do you need?

A little jar or sachet

Some rose quartz or regular quartz if you have it. 

A candle in red, pink, or white (or all three) 

Some glitter if you’d like

Literally any herbal love correspondence will work…. I made a mixture of rose petals, calendula, Himalayan pink salt, lavender, patchouli, basil, sarsparilla, cinnamon, and jasmine

Okay, I have at least some of that stuff, what do I do now?

1.) Light your candles

2.) Combine the herbs (You can do it with a mortar and pestle if you want, or you can just put them in your jar/sachet/etc.. and shake it) 

3.) Add that glitter and as you shake it to combine with the other herbs say to yourself something like…

“I’m not good at love, I’ll admit that. But I deserve it. I deserve someone who loves me unconditionally. Someone who is healthy for me. Someone that sees the good in me and encourages me. Bring that person to me. But, as you bring that person into my life, also bring me the strength to love myself. I need to love myself so I can feel worthy. I need to love myself because I am worthy. I need to love myself because if I can’t love myself, how in the hell am I going to love somebody else?” 

4.) Then blow out your candles and use the wet wax to seal your jar (if you’re using a glass container) 

Now, when you’re finished making it all fancy, sit it by your bedside (or if you have a sachet, tie it tight and put it under your bed pillow) and each night look at it and say something you love about yourself. 

The positive energy you direct towards yourself charges this little jar.

Goal: Heal and protect your heart and emotions

1) Place a few almonds in the water. Recite the verse, focusing on the intuition and wisdom to know who and when to trust. Watch the water, ask for and feel yourself take in Divine wisdom.

2) Place bay leaves in the water. As you recite, focus on being strong emotionally. Take in God’s strength.

3) Sprinkle some cinnamon in the water. Repeat the verse, asking for healing. Take in God’s love.

4) Sprinkle grass in or around the bowl of water. Recite the verse, asking for protection. Feel God protecting your heart.

5) Recite the verse one last time, letting God do work through all the ingredients.

Fiery Wall of Protection

Invoking the protection of the archangels Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel over a close friend – and for all malign astral powers and principalities to be thwarted and banished. 

Six white candles:

1 white  petition candle carved with the name of the one you desire to protect, and dressed with uncrossing, banishing, or run devil run oil. 

4 white (or red) candles surrounding the petition candle in a circle of salt, carved with the names of the archangels and dressed with the same condition oil.

1 undressed white (or black) enemy candle, upside down, carved with the name of the enemy(ies), entity(ies), or person(s) you desire to be banished – placed in a saucer of graveyard dirt, salt, or water (carve a new wick so you can burn this candle from the bottom).

Optional: A statue or holy card of St. Michael the Archangel, an offertory glass of water, a silver tray on which to burn your candles. 

Procedure:

1. Light the petition candle first, then the candles to Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel. 

2. Light the enemy candle upside down last (with the new wick you carved on the bottom)

3. Pray the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel and/or Psalm 23: 

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

4. Take the enemy candle, snuff it out in the saucer, and break it in half. 

5. Allow the other candles to burn completely down. You may choose to start the work on Sunday and repeat it through Wednesday, or any day you choose working either once or up to 7 days.

∆Cleansing Yourself Masterpost∆

There are many, almost endless ways to cleanse yourself spiritually. For some, there will be ways that are the most comfortable for them personally, and this is perfectly fine!! Others may even adapt to creating their own and/or mixing more than one technique together. These listed here are some that I’ve personally created, came across or been told about by either friends or guides. I hope they can help or inspire!! \(^.^)/

Sage/Smoke: Typically one of the most common ways to cleanse yourself is to burn some sage or insence and allow the smoke to wash over you, cleaning out and restoring your personal energies. 

Salt and Water wash: This wash is fairly well known to my knowledge, simply mixing salt, (sometimes sea salt, depending on your preference) and as pure of water as you can get your hands on. If pure water is not readily available, you can use rainwater, or bless and charge normal water, either with energy, Reiki, the moon, the sun or a blessing spell. (NOTE- you can charge or bless the water anyway, but it may bring peace of mind to those who don’t have access to pure water.) 

Milk, Honey and Lavender Bath: Another fairly known one as far as I know, but the ingredients are decently obtainable and isn’t only great for cleansing, but relaxing and replenishing. The portions can be any which parts you prefer, but I personally would tend to use- ½ cup Milk, 1 Tablespoon honey and ½ cup Lavender buds/ or 2 drops Lavender essential oil. 

Rose Water: A pretty popular cleansing technique. Buying or making your own rose water to bathe in is very calming, cleansing and serene. Just a cup or two of this water should work, depending on your personal preference. 

Blessed Bath or Shower: You can bless or charge the water before getting in, or as it’s flowing over yourself. This can be achieved through energy work, affirmations or spellwork. It’s a nice touch and in this case very helpful if you charge some candles and let them burn as you bathe, the candles constantly charging and sending cleansing energy to the water as they burn.

Exploding Energy Roses: This is a wonderful way of cleansing oneself of negativity and energy clutter. Simply get into a comfortable position and allow yourself to slip into a meditative state, once there, imagine and visualize each of your stresses, worries and energetic clutter that has clung to you, see them form into roses, becoming something manageable and force them to surrender their power over you, give them colors, detail, and texture. When you’re satisfied with your roses, focus on each one and explode it, let go of the negativity that it had once been and release every thought and emotion tied to it. 

Energy Comb: Get into a comfortable position and slowly allow yourself to achieve a meditative state, imagine the energy in any way most comfortable for you. An actual comb shape, energy hands, tendrils, energetic water washing over you or a sheet of energy, whatever you visualize, see it scan and filter through your metaphysical body, getting rid of negativity and energy clutter from your day and life. 

Reiki Cleansing: For this cleansing, some knowledge of the use of Reiki is required. If you are familiar with the workings of Reiki, simply activate your hands using the power symbol and hover your palms over your body, starting from your head and moving down to your feet in a brushing or soothing motion. Trust in yourself and open up to the universal energy as a conductor of it, allow it to work it’s way into your energetic body, sorting through the negative energy clutter and filling in any holes that may have been created or left behind by the negativity. 

Angel Vacuum: Getting into a comfortable position, either sitting up or lying down, slowly slip into a meditative state as you focus on your breathing. Once your body and mind have relaxed, call upon Archangel Micheal and Archangel Jophiel. Ask them to assist you in cleaning out the energetic clutter in your life and metaphysical body. Visualize Micheal either placing his hands on the top of your head (at your crown chakra) or imagine him linking a vacuum tube to it. Either way you visualize it, relax yourself and allow Micheal to clean your energy as Jophiel comes behind each cleansed space and refills the holes left behind by the negativity with light and love. Once they have finished, thank them for their help and continue to relax and embrace your cleansed energy until you are ready to come back to the present moment. (NOTE: you can ask if they would leave the vacuum, so for example if you do this in the morning, you could ask if they’d leave it throughout your day. This can significantly decreases the onslaught of energy clutter that you’d normally gather over the course of your day)

Finding Your Element

Though we’re never just one element at any time, its common for us to be closer to one more than the others. The element you associate with may share traits, both positive and negative, with you. Knowing your element can help you understand yourself and help you overcome problems that you encounter because of it.

Note that the element that you associate with now may change with time and personal growth.

So, how does one find their element? Well, first you gotta know the elements. Each one has its own set of traits.

Now, I won’t be listing all of the correspondence for each element, just the ones I think may be relevant to the topic.

When looking at one’s own traits and flaws it’s important to be honest with yourself and open to your intuition. If you find you can’t decide between two or more elements ask around, see what others think you are. It might help you narrow it down.

Multiple Planets in the Houses.

Some people have multiple planets in one house. Three or more planets, no matter what they are, shows significant ties to that part of the self in the chart. But what does it mean when you have more than two planets in one house?

House 1: The House of Self. Multiple planets in the First House makes for a very complex person. Your personality has multiple dimensions. There is a true self, a self that is presented to the world, a self that functions in romantic relationships, one that is shown to family, and so on. These people are made of many different connected parts.

House 2:  The House of possessions. Having multiple planets in the house of possession gives you insight into your material possessions and financial status and what helps and hinders it. It means that there are many forces which influence when you have and own. There will be ups and downs in your life as the planets move in and out of retrogrades during your life. During certain times, money and things will come to you easily, and during other times, you will be in need.

House 3:  The House of communication. Along with communication, this house rules how you receive information from others and how you learn. People with many planets in this house are often creative and are writers, artists, or similar things. There are many ways you approach and analyse problems. Having more than two planets in this house indicates strong logic and intellect. 

House 4:  The House of home. This house associates with early childhood, home, and inner emotional security. With many planets in the house, you may have a rocky or intensely complex relationship with one or both of your parents. Your childhood has a strong influence on who you are today, whether it be many minor incidents, one or two traumatic experiences, or an overall theme.

House 5: The House of pleasure. Having multiple planets in the house of pleasure is very dangerous. You already do, have had, or will have a problem with addiction of some type. This could be addiction to drugs, alcohol, people, emotions, or a struggle with an addictive disease like anorexia. When this happens, it can easily get out of hand and rule your life.

House 6:  The House of health. Having more than two planets in this house gives you many ways to cope with adversity and maintain good health. During most of each year, a force will be there to help you stay in good health. You will likely heal easily. There are many things which bring you satisfaction, and you have many things which make up your daily routine.

House 7: The House of partnership. In this house, we shift away from the self and look at the partner. There is a large, open slot of characteristics that an acceptable partner can have. You are compatible and can live amiably with many people, and finding the right partner may be difficult, as you can get along romantically with so many. This doesn’t mean it won’t happen though! When the right person comes, you will feel a very strong attraction to them and know it is them for certain. You have the ability to be tactful and handle your enemies in a diplomatic way, as well.

House 8:  The House of sex. Having many planets in this house means you may have odd tastes sexually and enjoy the strange and taboo, pushing limits. A death and rebirth of yourself may take place at one point in your life, and this effects you in partnerships and during sex.

House 9: The House of philosophy. Also ruling luck, people with many planets in this house are strongly effected by many planets, especially when they retrograde, have very changing luck. Sudden good or bad luck, extreme. People with multiple planets here also may be inclined to travel long distances and to see foreign places and people. You have complex and intensely personal religious views.

House 10: The House of social status. How you are viewed by your family, your partner, at work… with many planets here, there are a lot of different ways you present yourself. You know how to act to be perceived in the most favourable way. You know how to make a good first impression to be well liked. At certain times of the year, you can easily take authority and get a high social rank, depending on what planets are where,

House 11:  The House of friendship. With many planets in this house, you find strength in numbers. You can get along with all sorts of people, however, there are key people in your life, (perhaps a boss, siblings or parents, close friends…) who you have very complex relationships with. You may often feel understood by a key person or people. 

House 12:  The House of subconscious. Having multiple planets in this house makes you a deep thinker and once who thinks often. You may feel at conflict with yourself. You may have identity problems, especially during childhood. Certain elements of life, such as love life, or death, or relationships may be on your mind often, perhaps even ruling your thoughts from time to time. There is never a time where something is not going on in the back of your mind.
